DeSean Jackson Is Making A Mistake By Missing Practice

DeSeanJackson11I just got off the Morning Show on 94-WIP and Angelo Cataldi asked me about DeSean Jackson’s decision to miss his first week of practice with the Washington Redskins because he had a vacation scheduled.  In my opinion, Jackson is making another mistake and getting off on the wrong foot with the Skins players, coaches and fans.

DeSean had scheduled a vacation to coincide with the Eagles off season schedule which has them practicing next week.  The Skins practice this week because they have a new head coach in Jay Gruden. Number 10 would get the chance to observe the new offense and catch some passes from his new quarterback, Robert Griffin III.

The pint-sized speedster is being guaranteed $16 million dollars by the Redskins and he’s getting the chance to make his first impression to Skins fans.  Why not lose the few thousand dollars for breaking the vacation reservations to make a good first impression with your new fans?  Jackson is going to Washington with numerous negative reports about his willingness to be a team player.   He had the chance to counter those reports by losing a few thousand bucks to show everybody he’s willing to put the team first.

Peter King of Sports Illustrated says the Eagles getting rid of Jackson was a business decision.  Everybody has weighed in on why Jackson was released.

I know all of you Eagles fans will say who cares about Jackson anymore, he’s not an Eagle.

GCobb…your wrong…Djax worked that out with the Redskins management prior to signing the contract! After such a difficult experience for him getting double crossed and treated so badly by the Eagles…he probably needed some time to clear his head…the team knows the situation, his teammates know the situation….what DJax in taking the vacation is reasonable!

To KB,
D_jax already had this Trip Planned so it had nothing to do with ‘clering his head” .. All I can say is that you only have 1 Chance to make a great impression on your new Coach’s and Teammates and D-Jax blew this opportunity.. Most of the Coach’s/Players are not going to care what deal he made with management (Owner/GM).. and especially with all the hoopla and excitement for the Redksins Coach’s and Players about getting D-Jax only to be let down by his “pre-planned vacation” .. Just a poor frist and decision step by him…There’s no other way to explain it…
Perception becomes Reality and if Veterans on Redskins ad Coach’s think that D-Jax doesn’t care enough to join them as they put in new systems, etc, etc… Than this doesn’t bode well for him bonding with his new Team

Dag, most NFL mock drafts I’ve read agree with you and think that #22 eagle first round pick would be best utilized on Cary Williams’ replacement. They think he is if not the biggest weak link on the Eagles, one of the easiest to rectify with their first round choice.

excuse me Dag – many or some NFL drafts agree with you about Cary Williams and feel the Eagles could help themselves in the first round by potentially selecting a cornerback.

Nerve to talk about everyone making excuses for the front office and here we go with the blind excuses on the team etc.

Like they are saying down here in DMV. It doesn’t matter until it matters. Start off great 4-2 5-1 6-0. Start off slow….WHEELS WILL FALL OFF QUICKLY.

Especially when most people went nuts when Cary Williams was running his mouth about the same thing last year.

All we need to worried about is Odell Beckham the next eagle wide receiver. Lol what a joke here we go boys with the 22 pick (yeah that’s right they will make no type of deals) the Eagles select Odell Beckham. Bust number one of this years draft. I swear you guys pick better players every year than the dam people who get paid for it insane.

Good point G. You never get a second chance to make a first impression, and for a couple thousands of dollars, this multimillionaire has let his team and fans know that HE is what comes first in his world, not the team and certainly not the Redskins fans. The Redskins should have been smart enough to see that just the idea that DJax or his agent would bring the vacation up during negotiations shows where his priorities have always been…with himself. He was, is and will never be a team player. Exciting and talented player, YES…..team player, NEVER. Good luck Redskins, I see more trouble ahead, and as an Eagles fan I could not be happier.

Let’s see where he goes after his vacation if he spends the rest of the off season at Redskins Park with Griffin and the other receivers than this pre planned vacation is nothing. If he heads back to Cali for the remainder of the off season then that would speak volumes. You guys jump to concrete conclusions at the drop of a hat, does anyone have an original thought on this blog?

Which type of wideout and body frame will the Eagles select first?
Maclin may skip town next year. ( Marquis Lee) ( 2nd round Davanti Adams)—
Cooper is here for only 2 years. ( Kelvin Benjamin) ( 2nd round Martavis Bryant)
Djax body type speed replacement ( Brandin Cooks) ( 2nd round Paul Richardson)

I believe the Eagles look to go with a Bigger Target with their 1st WR
One thing that we do know is that Chip Kelly’s System requires the WR’s to be physical, strong and be able to block in the running game…

2 WR’s who I really like who could work out of the Slot and work the middle of the field are Dontae Moncreif (6-2 221lbs) & Jarvis Landrry (6-1 205lbs)
Both these Guys are very physical and are used to blocking and could be very effective working out of the Slot in Kelly’s Scheme’s..
I am not sure that Cooper has the stop and go quickness to play the Slot
and Maclin is an outside Receiver.. So Drafting a Quick, physical WR to play in the inside would make the most sense to me…
Remember a lot of these Draft Prospects have only played as Outside WR’s in College and it’s a big adjustment running routes between the Numbers which Both Landry & Moncrief have done in the SEC Conference
Moncreif could be a real dark horse since he played at Miss State and their Offense was mostly a running offense with a young and pretty limited QB.. Landry played at LSU which runs a Power-Pro-Style Offense similar to what the Eagles Run as far as formations, responsibilities go…
I would be happy with either of these Selections in the 2nd or 3rd Round

Nice post Paul and Makes sense, I neglected to include Jason Avant’s departure as a possible target to select a wide out. I’ll have to watch some video opinion on Moncrief. I know you mentioned him before I should start paying attention to him. Landry from what I remember from the combine disappointed with speed but excels on film ( that is a high reward bust type guy)

Landry did have a poor Combine Performance, but when watching Game Tape on him, he plays the Game at a quick speed, is tough and makes all the catch’s.. at 6-0 and a solid 205lbs, he’s a little thicker and stronger than many would think and I’ve seen him break lots of tackles and keeps the chains moving and has a good wiggle and yards after the catch…
Mocrief as I stated is more talented than his Stats at Miss State show, they didn’t have a real good Offense or QB play his Seniir Year, so his opportunities to put up great stats were limited.. I like his NFL Upside.. Reminds me of young Anquan Boldin a bit, at 6-2′ – 221lbs, he’s a tad smaller, but plays a similar sytle and likes contact and punishes would be tacklers.. He lacks straight-line speed which is why I think he will excel in the slot, but catch’s everything and makes yards and first downs.. He’s quietly moved up teh Draft Boards from a 4th Round Prospect in January to now a 2nd Round Grade..

I guess it will be all about beating the Redskins and how Desean looks in a Redskin uniform next year. That will be our Superbowl smh. damn this fan base loves consolation prizes. I guess we can relive 4 and foot vs Dallas or sacking Aikman 12 times or The body bowl game or Almost winning it with Andy and Dmac while other teams celebrate superbowls.

Was Desean quitting in the team or half assing it when he got clobbered in Atlanta or in that Ravens game on the sidelines catch getting smashed. How about that second half vs the Cardinals when he was torching DRC did you like that? was it his fault we didn’t win? I guess he quit on the team and his attitude cost us that game. Taking hits Maclin wouldn’t dare (I like Maclin b4 you clowns get started but its a fact). Desean’s attitude held us back last year from winning I guess lol what hurt us more Desean Jackson’s attitude or Riley Coopers dropped pass vs NO? Did he quit when he saved the season with the PR vs the Giants? everybody cheered and screamed at the TV. Desean is a Redskin I do not care to see him do well, but im not going to act like he wasn’t the best wr we have had since prob Mike Quick maybe Irving Fryer if you want to argue.(excluding T.O). A franchise history of a bunch of Calvin Williams and James Thrashes can afford to frown apon Desean Jacksons contributions that’s why around the country people just look at us as angry flip flopping fools, when in all actuality we care and follow our team more than most.

Philly the town where everybody chest is all puffed up. Its called smart football getting out of bounds when there are no yards left. so you don’t remember him getting smashed on the sidelines making the catch anyway? selective memory now everybody saying the same thing “he quit on the team” nobody has a mind of their own a bunch of drones lol. What hurt us more Deseans attitude or Riley Coopers drop? I will wait for a response.

The article seems like a good way to get over the release is Desean. Get over it. I’m sure RG111 and deangelo insisted in Desean keeping his vaca plans after going through the wringer with the Eagles . But honestly who cares. Move on with life. I see plenty of WR in the second round. The only viable WR pick at 22 is cooks to replace desean a speed. Other than that Paulman has it right with Landry. Whatchu think? Second round ? Maybe third hell still be available. We need to get younger on the Def side. That’s where we should put our first two picks. S and CB.

Shady McCoy has now come forth and dispelled the notion that DJax was some big locker room problem! While Shady likes Chip Kelly…its clear that he does not like the move and don’t believe that the Eagles will easily replace what DJax brought to the field. Also it is not fair to place the expectation on a rookie coming in the NFL that he is going to be able to replace DJax production..
Why put that kinda of pressure on a kid?
