Predraft Analysis: Mike Evans

evans6’5” and 231 pounds; Mike Evans will surely be a nightmare for opposing defensive coordinators at the NFL level.  Ranked as the second best wide-receiver coming out of the 2014 class; there shouldn’t be mention with the Eagles as a possible destination, but his name has already surfaced.  What would it cost the Eagles to move up to a position to take Evans?   We have to go a few years back to 2011 when the Falcons selected Julio Jones.

The Falcons were selecting 27th overall and moved up to pick #6.  They gave up their 1st, 2nd and 4th round selections for that draft in addition to their 1st and 4th the following year.  I feel the Eagles would have to give up a similar package to get into a position to draft Evans.  Kelly really likes Evans, and it’s quite obvious why he would.  The price to pay for “one” player with needs at “multiple positions” is one I’m not willing to sign off on.

Big receivers can absolutely take over a football game, and I would love to get my hands on one of them.  Some have similar size but with less of the play making ability.  Some are quicker but their catching ability is not at the same level.  Others are big, fast but are “raw” and considered 1-2 year projects before they are ready to make a solid contribution for their team.  Others are big, and their future in the NFL is a mere question mark.

With the expectation that the Eagles will increase the role of their tight-ends this season, the “big” receiver will already be in effect.

They could certainly add some size to their receiving depth chart, and have options throughout the draft to follow-up on that plan.

Round 1

Kelvin Benjamin 6-5 240 (FSU)- You can’t teach size, and he is the biggest all around receiver in the draft.  Benjamin has enough speed to create space and make plays after the catch, but his biggest strength will be winning matchups, especially in the red-zone.

Round 2-3

Allen Robinson (PSU) 6’3” 220 pounds- Physical style player with strong hands and a determination to catch anything that comes his way.

Donte Moncrief (Ole Miss) 6’2” 221 pounds-Good route runner, tough kid who is also an excellent blocker.  Has good speed, great knowledge for the game and can find the open space in a crowd.

Martavis Bryant (Clemson) 6’-4” 211 pounds- Raw, athletic and has a tall frame that could pack on a few pounds.  He is quick and can be that home run hitter, has had a history of drops and inconsistent effort on the field.

Cody Latimer (Indiana) 6’3” 215 pounds- Like Brandin Cooks, Latimer is quickly moving up with his projected draft status.  He is strong, he is quick, but some would argue his success came from matching up against weak competition.

Jordan Matthews (Vanderbilt) 6’3” 212 pounds- Good in most areas, not “great” in any.  He is a good route runner with good hands.

Davante Adam Fresno State 6’1” 212 pounds-Can move the chains on third down and shows the willingness to attack the middle of the field.

Rounds 5

Jeff Janis (Saginaw Valley) 6’3” 219 pounds- Has terrific size and speed.  He had a solid college career playing against average competition.  Will work hard for playing time and can contribute on special teams.

Round 7/Undrafted

Cody Hoffman (Brigham Young) 6’-4” 223 pounds

Shaquelle Evans (UCLA) 6’1” 213 pounds

Jeff you forgot the big kid from Rutgers, Brandon Coleman– especially seeing how his teammate Tim Wright transformed for a a slow wide receiver in college to a fast tight end in his rookie year in Tampa.

gmcliff everyone gets something different from following the draft process and the NFL. I like to follow the local players whether from High School or college. Sometimes I sour on them because of behavior like Kenny Britt but that is rare.

You are not and have NEVER been a talent evaluator! I physically talked to a national evaluator that lives here locally and he says that he does it year around and cannot evaluate everyone draft available. Yet you claim that you do. He asked me to get him your name and number so he can find out how you get all the coaches tape. You are a fraud that Googles players and post what you read about them.
Time to come back to reality LOSER!!!!!

Allen Robinson slaughtered his Penn State pro day –
he dropped 12 pounds in weight, ran a 4.47 forty, and jumped a 42 inch vertical. He his back in the first round. Eagles have to do some serious homework on this guy. He has great ball skills in the air and Nick likes to throw jump balls on post patterns.

What players have you mocked to prove you slapped me around the last 2 years????

I just wanted to see what you had in terms of talent evaluation……I haven’t heard anything from you personally yet (although you CLAIM you slapped me around)…What Howie says – I give less than a darn –

But he won’t be fighting your battles with me this year – Your going to stand on you own two feet, or STHU Forever – sense you chickened out of that – I have nothing else to say – but enjoy yourself…

Ok, maybe it is a dream, but I would love to see the Birds get Pryor in the 1st round and Robinson in the 2nd…….but from what I am reading I doubt that either will be there for them to take at their current draft positions.

Cliff, what is your opinion of Dee Ford? Is he a fit on our defense? If so I think he might be available in the 1st, again take Robinson in the 2nd and get the safety from LSU, Craig Loston (I think I spelled his name wrong from memory) in the 3rd or maybe 4th. What do you think? This team badly needs help on defense and needs help that will see the field this year. I doubt that the offense will be able to play at the super high level it did last year (hopefully I am wrong) and the defense will need to hold up their end if this team is going to win double digits again.

wegmans is a great store..expensive, but great food store.

I didn’t hear Herm, but respect his opinion. I heard him with Howard and Ike the other day and really learned something when he was stressing the need for turnovers instead of knockdowns from your defensive backfield. I don’t know about his Pro-Day, but from the film I have seen of him, I see a big hitter in the mold of BDawk. I could see he and Wolfe being a force for a number of years, but maybe I am missing something.

This pro day stuff is such a small piece of the puzzle, it’s about the game tapeand how theplayer performs on the field during game day. If any GM or coach looks at game tape and sees a good to great talent, then makes a decision of the value of a player based on an hour of orchestrated workouts in shorts, thenthat coach or GM is crazy. Themost important part of a pro day is to meet and interview the player and or check out medical physical concerns.

Chip Kelly is going to rebuild this Offense first for that’s what he stresses on his Teams.. He will let DC Davis worry about fielding a competitive Defense .. Look for WR/TE/OL and even RB Selected earlier than thought for Kelly is going to redo this Offense with “His Players”

Robinson will not be drafted in the top 40! There could be 7 WR’s that go before him. Watkins, Evans, Cooks, Lee, Beckham, Benjamin, Moncrief, & Matthews. Just because Robinson blew up his pro-day, doesn’t mean, all of a sudden his hands for feet, are going to replace themselves.

A Sleeper WR in the 2nd Round could be DaVante Adams from Fresno State who at 6-2 212lbs, plays quick, with good hands and makes Yards after the Catch.. Plays Outside & Inside and could be a real nice Fit for Kelly’s Schemes
I belive the Eagles will pursue a WR that will play the Slot a lot more often (like Avant did) than Drafting an Outside WR to replace D-Jax in the Early Rounds

I look at Davante Adams, Dontae Moncrief and Jarvis Landry as all good fits for the Eagles Offense since they have all played teh Slot Position in College and have had success and have the Toughness & Quickness to play in between the #’s ..
I believe Maclin & Cooper will mostly play and line-up on he Outside
The Eagles Need to get a Slot Receiver in this Draft first and then may get a speed guy late in teh Draft..Emphasis will and should be on Slot WR

Buchanon in the 2nd at 47 to Dallas.

The Eagles trade back could be if Bridgewater and Carr are there at 22. Then maybe they can get a team that wanted a QB who drafted in the top 10 to give up a 2nd and 3rd to move up.

I would compare Matt Barkley with Barry Gardner. If Ray Rhodes would have known he had a player as good as Trotter on the team unexplicitly sitting on the bench he never would have drafted Gardner. Just like Chip wouldn’t have drafted Barkley if he had known how good Foles was sitting on the bench.

I really like Moncrief as I have stated in previous Posts..
He could work in the slot and outside, he’s tough, physcial and can block which is a requirement for Kelly’s System..
Many of these WR in this Draft are strictly outside, speed guys, but if they can’t adjust and improve their route running, play more physical and learn to play some inside, many of them will have short NFL Careers..

It’s occured to me that is was Agent Drew Rosenhaus all along, who spread Rumors/Innuendo about D-Jax to make the Eagles Release him thereby knowing that D-Jax would sign a New Dealwith a New Team and get some Bonus up front $$$ that he would not get if he remained with the Eagles and now since D-Jax has moved on with a new Deal, He has the $$$ to pay him Rosenhaus back.. Very good move by Rosenhaus who kills 2 Birds with 1 Stone.. He gets his $$$ backl from D-Jax and sticks it to the EAgles for screwing up his Cash-Cow in Terrell Owens a few Years back..
Check out Rosenhaus background and you will see some relationships with that Reporter from the NJ Paper, who was breaking the story.. .

Date women on T.V. with the help of Chuck Woolery
Words are flowing out just like the Grand Canyon
And I’m always out looking for a female companion

I took off her moccasins and put on my bib
I’m wheelin’ and dealin’ I make a little bit of stealing
I’ll bring you back to the place and your dress I’m peeling
Your body’s on time and your mind is appealing
Staring at the cracks up there upon the ceiling
Some such nonsense is the bass that I’m throwing
Talking to a girl telling her I’m all knowing
She’s talking to the kid to the who
I’m telling here every lie that you know that I never did
Hey Ladies, Get Funky

Me in the corner with a good looking daughter
I dropped my drawers and it was welcome back Kotter
We were cutting up the rug she started cutting up the carpet
In my apartment I begged her please stop it
The gift of gab is the gift that I have
And that girl ain’t nothing but a crab
Educated no stupid yes
And when I say stupid I mean stupid fresh
I’m not James at 15 or Chachi in charge
I’m Adam and I’m adamant about living large
With the white sassoons and the looks that kill
Makin’ love in the back of my Coupe De Ville
I met a little cutie she was all hopped up on zootie
I liked the little cutie but I kicked her in the bootie
Cause I don’t kinda go for that messin’ around
You be listening to my records’ a number one sound
Step to the rhythm step step to the ride
I’ve got an open mind so why don’t you all get inside
Tune in turn on to my tune that’s live
Ladies flock like bees to a hive
Hey Ladies, Get Funky

She’s got a gold tooth you know she’s hardcore
She’ll show you a good time then she’ll show you the door
Break up with your girl it ended in tears
Vincent Van Gogh and mail that ear
I call her in the middle of the night when I’m drinking
The phone booth on the corner is damp and it’s stinking
She said come on over it was me that she missed
I threw that trash can through her window cause you know I got dissed
Your old lady left you and you went girls[x3] insane
You blew yourself up in the back of the 6 train
Take my advice at any price a gorilla like your mother is mighty weak
Sucking down pints till I didn’t know
Woke up in the morning at the Won Ton Ho
Cause I announce I like girls that bounce
With the weight that pays about a pound per ounce
Girls with curls and big long locks
And beatnik chicks just wearing their smocks
Walking high and mighty like she’s #1 and
She thinks she’s the passionate one

I disagree with GMCliff, I have been beating the Mike Evans drum even before they got rid of DJax. I think he is the best size/speed blend in the draft and will be an absolute beast in the NFL. I watched a ton of SEC games because of the money line lol and on A&M it was basically a 2 man show between Manziel and Evans. The guy routinely busted defenses over the top and down the middle and was doubled constantly. He made an absolute joke out of the Alabama secondary that was schemed to stop him. I see him as Vjackson/Anquan Boldin type with better speed. If he trims down a bit and adds some more strenght and muscle hes a perfect redzone target even as a rookie.

In Wrs unless you are going WR by committee which the Eagles have done for a while since T.O I am fine smaller WRs. But with an offense that run heavy with downfield blocking a key part to the offense you need bigger outside Wrs. Also your no.1 receiving option has to be a threat in the redzone. The Eagles have lacked that for some time.

And if this is the deepest draft in 20yrs whynt wouldn’t you want double digits picks with so many holes you fix them all In one draft but can fix enough of them.

Thats a key date because then the Dolphins can spread out that 10 mil cap hit over the next couple of years.

My favorite Trent Cole play is when he flips seattle OT Russell Okung and breaks his arm ending the big guy’s season. He also fractured David Deihl’s finger making it look as grotesque as Brian Baldinger’s finger. Love how tough Trent Cole is.

I don’t agree with with his picks but I understand and agree with logic after 10. There can be a run on a position early and it starts to spread like wildfire. If in the first round Wrs start to go fast and early then all of sudden teams thinking they were going to get a stud in the bottom half of the 2nd will start to panic since guys like Benjamin are no longer there. Then the Robinsons and Bryants go even earlier in RD 2.

I think Benjamin is too slow in and out of his Routes to be effective anytime soon in teh NFL.. He can handle the Alley-Oop once in the Red-Zone which he’s very good at.. But Running Routes versus NFL CB’s and getting open and separation, I see him struggling his 1st 2 Seasons…
He reminds me a lot like Alshon Jeffrey when he came out of College and it tool Jeffrey a year or 2 to get up to running strong routes, working on his quickness, etc, etc .. Now Jeffrey is a very good WR, but it took patience by teh Bears nad hard owrk and committment by him..

Detroit drafted a UCLA 6’7” TE last year that caught 7 tds in the red zone with only few more non td catches.
Jeffery, Gordon, Floyd and Keenan Allen all had great seasons for young players last year.

Houston and Jville set the tone for the entire draft.

I just can’t see an offensive coach passing on a shot at a QB at no.1

I still think Texans go with OLB Mack with their 1st Pick which throws the start of the Draft into a big tizzy… Now the Rams at #2 hold the Cards and were looking to trade Back.. With Clowney still on the Board, they will get bombared with Trade Offers and may decide to Draft him themselves..

The Rams at #2 and the Browns at #4 hold the Key as far as suprises, trade up’s and trade backs to this Draft..

After a great deal of thought, I have decided that if we can’t get Su-a Filo, Mosley or Pryor, I would have no issue with trading down. It actually makes sense because I think the guy we need to target is Attaochu and he is a reach at 22 and gone at 35. If Jax wants to take Clowney and trade back in for a QB, I would give them 22 for 35 and 67.

That is the only how I see a team trading for 22. If Carr/Bridgewater are there at 22 still and a team that didnt get a QB with a top pick like Hou/Jax want back in. Outside of that I see nothing of significance for a trade back unless someone non QB related drops like a rock more than likely a WR like Lee or Beckham.

The question is where is Bridgewater on the Eagles board. He is definitely a top 5 talent wise. Drafting Bridgewater at 22 would be excellent value! What if Foles falls flat on his face this year? The Eagles better have a viable plan for the Quarterback position, just in case Foles folded and if he does the Eagles are not paying him franchise QB money. As it stands now, are you really going to bank on Sanchez or Barkley? Hell NO!
Bridgewater should be a top-5 pick on the Eagles board…if he drops to 22 and you follow the Eagles stated philosophy of taking the best player available…he has to be your guy.

With the Signing of Mark Sanchez of $4 Million and 4th Round Pick Barkely as the back-up to Foles.. I do not believe the Eagles will look at any QB in this Draft.. I can’t see them going into Camp with 4 QB’s they have way too many other needs.. This Camp and Pre-Season will determine if Barkley has a legitimate shot of Playing in the NFL whether its for the Eagles or as Trade Bail next Off-Season
The 2015 Draft they will target a QB

Bridgewater will have a very short NFL Career.. He’s 15-20 lbs too light and will getkilled weighing at 208lbs as he does now.. He has a average to below average arm and word is that he has struggled with the X’s & O’s and Interview Process which no Team or Reporter will admit to in Public due to the usual Racial Overtones…
I bet a QB Taj Boyd has a better Long-term NFL QB Career than Bridgewater
I believe Bridgewater is a solid step below last Years Prospect in Geno Smith but with a weaker arm…

I disagree Paul…Bridgewater will get bigger due to the natural maturation process the human body goes through as it gets older, plus I’m sure he will be working out and eating right. Bridgewater is the most football IQ intelligent QB prospect in this draft.
Tajh Boyd blows…inaccurate and inconsistent…the exact opposite of Teddy as far as fundamentals. Boyd has a good arm, I don’t care for him as a nfl starting calibur QB though.

49ers are stCked at RB with Gore,Hunter
and last years Draft pick RB Marcus Lattimore who is returning from
Torn ACL back in 2012 and was recently given a clean bill of health to return
To football duties
The 49ers are looking for pass-rushers to make up for the likely loss of Aldon Smith and an aging Justin Smith
Brandon Graham is in play here and possibly Vinny Curry
I can see a Deal foe either to 49ers for James and one of their
Multiple 3rd or 4th Round Picks

I disagree with your stacked. If they did that trade and AGAIN im posting what I am seeing as rumors….Bryce Brown is a closer alternative to Frank Gore than Kendall Hunter is. Marcus Lattimore is a wild card pick they could afford to fly in the 4th and can easily wash their hands of if he doesnt recover to be the back he was pre injury. Gore is pushing the RB Old Folks home age….and they are going to need inexpensive options at RB especially if they have to break the bank for CK.

Gore will be the Featured Back in 2014 with Lattimore gettig more and more carries to groom for 2015.. If Lattimore is healthy and shows promise, then Gore is Released after 2014 and they move forward with Lattimore,Hunter and a Draft Pick…

They are not going the RB route in the draft again. Its better for them to bring in a vet. Same reason they probably cant go WR again in the draft and they went after Floyd. They need this year contributors. Aj Jenkins and James should have been major contributors but they busted. Brown would leap frog Hunter and Lattimore day 1.

I hit the post button by accident the point was trade down as much as you can to get as many picks as possible in rd 2-4 they need to much just to make one trade they need multiple trades unless they do that trade with the 49ers that I mentioned before I could care less who drops or not the only player I’m drafting @22 if he drops is Watkins,Mack or Evans other wise trade down get all the picks u need.

One problem Smitty. They sucked ass in the later rounds last year and pretty much did squat after Logan. Wolff is a back upon a real defense. I might be wrong about him though. You never know. The point is if we get more picks they need to find some Jason Kelces and Trent Coles out there this year, because those late picks were trash last year. Kruger? I love following the bloodline of a flash in the pan mediocrity.

You have to care about who drops…that is the only scenario where teams start to move up. The 49ers don’t have glaring needs that they have to trade up for. I understand the logic but the need isnt there.

The perfect scenario for trade ups are that either a top WR falls because someone reaches for Benjamin in the first so it pushes a Lee or Beckham down or if Bridgewater/Carr or even Manziel start sliding and they are their at the end of the first. Then the teams at the top of the 2nd can move up. Especially if Houston doesnt go with a QB in round 1. Then they have a valuable pick in RD.2 and any team thats wants one of those qbs needs to leap frog them.

I would be thrilled if he could be Quinton Mikell but that is probably a reach. I just want to get a GOOD starting S, CB or OLB that can rush his ass off for 2015. I really struggle to see any way they get more than one of those three pieces in this draft unless there is some PURE luck. Maybe if they take Fuller and then Attaochu somehow falls to 54. But after blazing a 4.5 at his pro day thats not going to happen. He is actually a much better prospect than the under sized Ford. Aside from getting one of those spots taken care of, we need to find two other solid starters that are upgrades over the current ones.

Who is the shocking player this year for the Eagles? Does Fletcher Cox have the light go on and start looking a lot like JJ Watt? Does Maclin actually finally have that break out season that never came and look like a #1 WR? Does Zach Ertz make the PB in year two with 75 catches and ten TDs? Does Vinny Curry come back at 290 lbs and burst onto the scene with ten sacks and send Thornton or Cox packing? Does Foles actually look better than last year outside the numbers and have people start whispering Elite? Does Boykin get his shot on the outside and turn in a PB season forcing Kelly to make exception to his size requirements?

CB – Nolan Carroll beats out Fletcher in Summer Camp and goes on to have a Good,Solid Season

OLB – Phillip HUnt beats out Trent Cole in SUmmer Camp and has a Solid Season and leads the Team with 5 & 1/2 Sacks

Kicker – Alex Henerey wins the Kicker Battle in Camp, adds 5-7 Yards to his Kick-offs and consistently gets them into the End-Zone

Also Cole won’t be benched because his is a no cut contract. They eat too much money. So he stays and he starts. Last years draft was a mirage. We drafted a RT at # 4 who was ok I guess but wouldn’t be a top 25 pick this year. I understand that we didn’t know how Peters would recover and now that he did it sucks that the 4th pick in the draft is a RT. You cant convince me LJ was the 4th best player in last years draft class. Ertz who was ok and I guess could become a nice player but nowhere near the pedigree of Ebron or Cameron Jordan. . A NT in Logan who is too small and we are still talking about getting a bigger prototypical NT. Then a wasted 4th round pick who we moved up to get in Barkley. He is so good we brought in Sanchez to be our backup.

Lane Johnson is a dominate run blocking mauler. He is bigger, faster and stronger every snap and man handles his responsibility in the running game. Shady and Desean had career years because Lane Johnson provided time and space. He is an excellent draft selection taking the teams biggest 2012 weakness and making it the teams strength.
Zach Ertz was a top 25 NFL TE last season and will be top 15 this year.
The Philadelphia Eagles don’t play the 3-4 defense you think they play. They play a hybrid where more 70% of the snaps they are in a 4-3 defense. Fat blobs on the DL are being phase out of the NFL. The Defensive players are getting smaller not larger.

I agree with EOSB and especially about the DL/DT
Look at all the Top DT’s in this Draft and most of them are all in that
6-2′ & 300lbs Range but who are atlhletic and can get penetration and to the QB…
Players like Aaron Donald, Tim Jernnigan, Will Sutton, Dominique Easly & Kelcy Quarles are all the new NFL Protoype DT’s
Larger Players that simply take space to clog the middle are fewer and fewer and as the Passing Game continues to dominate the College & NFL Game, we will see less and less Big Stud 340 LB NT’s for they simply are not needed as much as Pass-Rushing DT’s are … It’s about attack, attack the QB and backfield which is what Pro Teams & COllege Programs are now looking for..
In today’s NFL most Teams Defenses are willing to give up a 100-120 Yards Rushing against them in small dose’s.. It’s the Big Plays in the Passing Game or the Long Runs or Screen Plays that they want to prevent..
It’s about Scoring Points, and Holding the other Teams from Big Plays and Creating Turnovers.. 340lb NT don’t contribute much too this and when you look around the NFL, Most of Big Mammoth NT play 15-20 Snaps a game at most (Short-Yardage & Red Zone)
Today’s DL’s are more athletic and explosive across the Board

Wake up you gullible fool….LOL!!!!

He is bigger, faster and stronger every snap and man handles his responsibility in the running game. Shady and Desean had career years because Lane Johnson provided time and space. He is an excellent draft selection taking the teams biggest 2012 weakness and making it the teams strength. – BULLCRAP – The health of the Offensive Line, mainly Peters, Mathis, and Kelce anchored that line – Stop acting like that scrub did it by himself – What about those 22 sacks he gave up??? – he stinks.

Zach Ertz wasn’t a top nothing last year

Aaron Donald, Tim Jernigan, Will Sutton, Dominique Easley & Kelcy Quarles are all the new NFL Protoype DT’s – Not true, and none of them will be any good in the NFL – ironic that those are players that you’ve been mocking – what a shock

340lb NT don’t contribute much too this and when you look around the NFL, Most of Big Mammoth NT play 15-20 Snaps a game at most (Short-Yardage & Red Zone) – Haloti Ngata, Akiem Hicks, Dontari Poe did….Vince Wilfork, Gilbert Brown, and more did it for years….more BS

The Eagles a a year late. Just imagine if the Eagles had the #4 pick this year. It sure in the hell wouldn’t be a RT. We would be discusiing if Watkins is there, Khalil Mack or possibly Clowney dropping. We could drop back and get a Mike Evans or a Pryor or even that stud LT from Auburn Greg Robinson. The talk would be are the Eagles taking Johnny football at #4. Last years draft was like the Evan Turner draft. SMH

Congratulations to the Eagles for their 15th year in a row in reaching the elite 8 in the salary cap superbowl. The Eagles sit at #5 somewhere between Oakland the Jaguars and Cleveland with the most cap space at just over 20 million. With the cap going up possible 15 million and Coles numbers coming off the books and few other players being released or restructured the Eagles should be between 45-50 million under the cap next year. Hip hip hurray. There cap management shrewdness has been a blessing in these parts with the multiple superbowl wins, this system is genius. Did I mention Cleveland, Oakland and the Jags are right there with them. brilliant! Its amazing how these other teams even compete with the salary cap elite 8. Oh yeah we saving to give Nickolas 20 million next year, that’s why we are doing this. Just imagine in 2 years when shady is done how much more we can save!. #eaglesaresmarterthaneveryoneelse

GMCliff’s boy Kony Ealy is getting scathing reviews on the NFL.com. The SEC OL of 2012 and 2013 NFL and soon to be NFL lineman apparently handled him easily. His true draft stock value is 3rd or 4th round longshot starter, role player as a 3rd and long interior pass rusher like Vinny Curry.

Charlie Casserly (whom I respect as a talent evaluator) killed Kony Ealy…stating that he’s a second to third round talent, and that he disappeared when he went against top college tackles who are projected to be good pro tackles.

You are blind! Ealy is being pushed up the board bc of the lack of true pass rushers. He is terrible against the run. Can’t get off of blocks and is weak at the point of attack. Had 1 decent year in college!
Casserly killed Burfict bc of his lack of discipline on the field and his off the field actions. He stated that Burfict had the base to be a very good player but was very immature. So essentially he evaluated Burfict correctly.
So far I have yet to see you name a prospect that has a chance to be more then a special teamer.

I am not very impressed by Kony Ealy and stated so early on..
Missouri’ other DE Michael Sam outplayed Ealy in most of their Games last Season.. and how GMCliff thinks Ealy can drop back at the NFL Level in Pass Coverages and be productive and a playmaker right away is beyond me…He’s about a 3rd Round Prospect in my opinion and can Rush the Passer, but he is not a 3-4 OLB player at the NFL Level at this time an Situational Pass-Rusher like most DE’s/OLB in this Draft are

Ealy is a 3rd Round Prospect & Sam is a 5th/6th Round Prospect in my book..

I rather the Eagles either Draft a True DE (Kareem Martin,Marcus Smith, Scott Critchon, Taylor Hart, Will Clarke) and a True OLB (Van Noy,Reilly,Bradford) instead of another Tweener to try to play both Positions..
They already have 3 Tweeners at OLB/DE (Cole,Graham,Curry) so why add a similar size Player to the Mix.. Get Bigger & Stronger..

Paul you just stated that Sam, played better than Ealy – Given the notion that he was a better player – thus drafted before him because to your point he is better prospect……..

You keep going back and forth – because when he ran that 4.57 at his pro day – all of the sudden you were like – he was going to be drafted early by the Cowboys, and the Giants in the 1st – now someone gives their personal evaluation, that’s negative – and now to you he is a 3rd round pick – That’s okay because you’re still wrong.

I did state that Sam played better in many Games that did ealy last Season.. A handful of games does not determine the NFL Draft Prospect rankings though…

I see ealy as a DE only and in a 4-3 Scheme which could be Giants/Cowboys, but not in the 1st Round..
Maybe 2nd Round to one of those Teams or even the Falcons or Vikings or Bengals. But ealy has falling down the Board and there are better Prospects in the 1st Round than Kony Ealy… It is what it is, Your boy had a chance to shine at Combin and Pro-Workout Days and he failed to capitalize.. and do remember that the Draft Process is a fluid event, what was known and thought of about Prospects in January or Febuary can often change by April/May… Things like Intelligence,Work-Ethic, How a Player Fits a Pareticular Scheme, Character & Off the Field Issues are all delved into by most Teams & Scouting Reports
It would be easy to say the Top 50 players are this based on Athletic Ability alone, but we all know that’s not how it works.. There are many, many factors that Organzations use in determining who are the Best Prospects for their Organizations moving forward..

Kony Ealy is a 6-foot-4, 237-pound defensive end with high upside whose draft stock has been on the rise in the last few weeks. (USA Today Images)

Eagles mock drafts

Between now and the draft, our draft pundits Ron Burke, Chris Steuber, Jared Sherman and Geoff Mosher will provide their latest Eagles mock drafts. They will make selections for each of the Eagles’ six picks, and when they update their selections, their new mocks will be posted.

Round 1, pick 22: Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri (6-4, 273)
Ealy’s stock keeps rising. Scouts feel his upside is through the roof and his best days are two or three years down the road. In that sense, he can be this year’s Lane Johnson, a freakish athlete who will learn the game on the fly.

If he’s not ready to start, Ealy can sit behind Trent Cole and Connor Barwin on run downs and come in for pass-rushing situations. By his second year, Ealy will have learned the ins and outs of being a 3-4 outside linebacker and added the necessary weight to play the run and become a starter.

Oh wow gm way to “evaluate” players. You only listed just about everyone with a late 1st or 2nd round grade from the experts as your potential Eagle fits/picks.
As far as the FA rookies…you don’t know the Eagles at all do you? They want BIGGER players and players from winning programs. So that leaves you 1 guy….Lyeria who has linked to the Eagles as a 7th round pick or FA signing since the off-season started. Thats bc he played at Oregon.
So do you want just a list of players or do you want why they will fit with the Eagles. Apparently your idea of “evaluating” players is just listing names that experts say could be available when the Eagles pick.
Here’s my list pussycliff……Calvin Pryor S, Kyle Fuller CB/S, Kyle Van Noy DE/OLB, Jeremiah Attoachu OLB, Deone Buchannon S, Hart DE/DT, Tripp OLB, Lyeria TE……notice the pattern. Big (size wise) players from WINNING programs.
Now when you can evaluate a player I will post a mock draft with details…till then go Google more players LOSER.

But can the ones that aren’t duplicates to mine actually play????

Big (size wise) players from WINNING programs – doesn’t mean anything unless they an play – The Heisman trophy winner for years was from a winning program, and couldn’t play on the NFL level –

Your thinking already tells me you shouldn’t be trying to act like you know what your talking about…

Fletcher Cox and Dion Jordan are not going anywhere
I see Brandon Graham getting Traded to 49ers for one of their multiple 3rd Round PIcks with the very likliehood that Aldon Smith will miss significant time and possibly the entire 2014 if he ends up with Jail Time.. (This is his 3 Felony Charge is less than 18 months and a very strong Possibility that he will be going to the Big House for a while)

I like this one GLoomy
Probably the most realistic Mock Done so far with Players who will actually be available and fit the Eagles Schemes/System Well
Last 2 PIcks in Colvin & thomas won’t pay dividents until 2015 but are great Value PIcks and would be Drafted a lot sooner if not for their Injuries

I’ve Stated for a while about DT Hagemen which is a Risk, he will be BOom or Bust NFL Player but I think with the other hard-working young DL in COx,Thornton,Logan and the good Coaching from DL Jerry A that they can keep Hagemen mottivated and have him grow as a Player.. Physically , he has all the Talents & Skills to be a good one..
At 6-6 318lbs, he will be 330lbs by 2016 and able to dominate like a young Albert Haynesworth did in his Prime, he has that kind of natural strength & explosion off the ball when focused..

WOW…..not a good draft at all! Only pick that is good is Colvin. Hageman is not that good. Not worthy of a 1st round pick. Has BUST written all over him. Robinson is to slow. Jones is to light in the ass. Dixon isn’t impressive. Thomas has the torn ACL, no idea how he will recover.
Robinson, and Thomas won’t be available where you picked them and to pick them earlier is a huge reach.

You also had Dixon on your mock as well – Now you contradict yourself – LOL!!!

But you’re correct he isn’t impressive……that’s one bust for you waiting to happen……I think you should stop while you have a chance to save face.

Ok dude, I understand you have a hard-on for EOS thats your thing so please stop sharing it with everyone we aren’t interested.
I believe the Eagles trade down or even out of the 1st round but if they stay at #22
1st round- Lee WR USC. Picks someone Chip knows. Not my choice but it is what I believe they will do.
2nd round-Attaochu OLB Ga Tech. Big upside/great pass rusher.
3rd round- **A Dixon Safety Baylor. Big and fast for a Safety*********
4th round-B Coleman WR Rutgers. Big WR to replace Cooper after next year.
5th round-T Hart DE/DT Oregon. Someone Chip knows and adds depth to a thin DL.
7th round-C Lyerla TE Oregon. Again someone Chip knows. If Chip doesn’t draft him no one will. Hopes to get a 1st round talent late and hopes he is maturing……

Don’t forget E0S, because, I’m gonna remember – You just pissed on yourself dumbass……Bwhahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That mock draft was only made if the eagles traded fletcher cox for dion Jordan it’s a perfect player for player swap seeing as though neither player fits there scheme that they are in. I don’t even think they pick @22 I see them trading back and picking up a bunch of picks.

Why is everyone so quick to get rid of Cox? Last year was his 1st in the new defense and he had a good year. I believe getting rid of him would be a HUGE mistake. I believe he will have a very good year this year. For 1 he will be more experienced and 2 they will have some more rotational depth which will keep him fresher.

Wow cox had a good year I didn’t know that I thought his year was avg at best they could do a lot better than him with there scheme he doesn’t fit he is a 4-3 dt not a 3-4 de. To me the 3-4 dline all need to be run stoppers and space eaters for your lbs to run free cox isn’t a fun stuffer he is a pass rushers and this scheme doesn’t fit him at all.

Everyone needs to remember that the Eagles DL utilizes 4 DL in most Passing SIutations where Cox lines up as a Pass-rushing DT ..
I am not as down on Fletcher Cox as many are on here.. Note that he was Drafted as a 4-3 DT and is not a natural Pash-Rushing DE so anyone that expects him to get 10-12 Sacks is wishful thinking.. He’s a Run Stopper First and his best Pass-rRushing comes from the Inside and not as an Outside DE
since he is not a “Burst or Explosive DE”

Last year New England can stash Ryan Mallett as the QB of the future. The patriots may have to reset that OB in waiting position because Brady looks good for a few more seasons. Do the Patriots offer Mallett up for trade and draft another this year to develop?

I could see the Titans/Rams?Vikings all being very interested in Ryan Mallet… I also could see the Patriots Drafting QB Mettenberger from LSU or
a Keith Wenning from Ball State or even a Jeff Matthews from Cornell ..
Patriots like Tall, Decisive and Pocket QB’s for their System

Eagles felt it necessary to trade up even for Matt Barkley. Patriots may be a player in the mid first round QB market. Maybe to get ahead of Arizona or Cleveland.

gmcliff….you are a fraud!!!!! Go to another site and annoy people!
This site is for people who know football and knows the Eagles. You know neither.
gloomysmitty….how can you say Cox didn’t have a good year? He was the best DLman we had. I bet he fits this scheme now that he has had a year to learn how to be a 3-4 DE. Saying he doesn’t fit is like saying that gmcliff isn’t a fit for Burger King bc he doesn’t flip burgers the same way he did at McD’s. After he flips a few thousand burgers he’ll fit just fine at BK.
None of the players on the defense were great last year. They were all drafted or signed for a 4-3 defense but with experience they will fit and adapt.

I am still having trouble understanding how Cedric Thornton is only worth a one year restricted contract of $645,000. Cole and Herremans got early extensions, Peters and Mathis got early extensions. The long snapper got an extension worth more than 645,000. No doubt Cedric Thornton turned down the chump contract offer and is betting on himself that he will earn a massive salary raise as an unrestricted free agent next year. This Cedric Thornton $645,000 one year deal really bothers me. I think they are doing him wrong.

paulman

April 18, 2014 4:08 pm

Thornton was a Restricted Free-Agent meaning the Eagles could match any Offer to a Team who made an Offer to Thornton and would retain him.. and if Thorton were to sign with another Club, the Eagles would have gotten a Draft Pick in Return , which bottom line lowers the Value of a Restricted Free-Agent who is still younf and up and coming as opposed to an established Veteran Player since most Teams are unwilling to give up Draft Picks..
If he gets off to a nice Start again in 2014, I believe the Eagles will attempt to lock him up with a lonf term deal so he doesn’t hit Free-Agency next Off-Season and I do agree 100%, that the Eagles should Pay him in that $1.5 Million Range for 2014..

Thornton was good yes I agree but he was single blocked most of the time. He only had 1 sack, wasn’t much of a pass rushing threat. Cox was double teamed most passing situations and had 3 sacks. Cox also stepped inside alot to play DT. Thornton is a DE only. I like Thornton but wouldn’t say he was the best DLman on the team.

The Key for Eagles DL is that the Core on YOUng DL (Cox,Thornton,Logan and Curry) all improve and get strong & Quicker off the ball and blocks..
But they need another DT/NT Type and a Pure Pass-Rusher from the Edge..
Can Curry be this Pass-Rusher… This is make and break season for him

Howdy y’all. I see there are a few knowledgable football folk on this site, and some hillbilly jackasses that know nothing.
I used to be a talent evaluator for a “professional” football league and have connections. I am disabled so I can’t do that job anymore but for a site like this I can do my passion and still drink heavily.
I am a gambler so I am willing to challenge anyone of y’all on a mock draft. Come big or go home.
I live in SEC country so that puts me a step ahead of y’all but I saw some of y’all read alot of reports on players. So it will even out as I can’t read good.
