Analyzing The 2014 Schedule

ChipKelly5Week 1: Jacksonville

Gus Bradley and his defensive-minded philosophy will come to town to try and prove the Eagles wrong for passing on him as their new head coach a year ago.

Bradley’s Jaguars made strides late last season, and with another off-season to build should continue to get stronger. I’m a big fan of Bradley, and I believe that in time he’s going to make the Jaguars a respectable team again. It may even happen this season. However, this is way too early in the year for the Jaguars to be ready to pull off an upset on the road against a playoff-caliber team.

The Eagles should have no trouble starting the season on the right foot.

Week 2: @ Indianapolis (Monday Night Football)

The Eagles kick off their road schedule with a tough matchup in the Colts.

Andrew Luck is going to be expected to continue to make strides as he gets closer to establishing himself as one of the game’s better quarterbacks, and he’s shown that he can be a force even with a depleted receiving corp. and an ineffective running game.

Luck and the Colts are far from unbeatable, however. As strong as Luck can be, he’s also turned the ball over quite a bit in some big moments, including last year’s playoff games. The Eagles have a chance to steal this one on the road.

Week 3: Washington

We won’t be waiting long for DeSean Jackson to make his return to Lincoln Financial Field.

I’m not surprised that this game is taking place early in the season, but I am surprised that its not a prime time game.

Week 4: @ San Francisco

This is the toughest game that the Eagles have on the schedule in the first two months.

West coast trips are always difficult, and the 49ers are one of the NFC’s elite. They’re not very far from Seattle’s level, and I have a really hard time picturing this game as anything other than a loss right now.

Week 5: St. Louis

The Rams are buried in a difficult division, but they’re not a team to take lightly.

I think Jeff Fisher has been doing good work with this franchise, and they’re going to be a tough out. However, assuming the Eagles do in fact fall on the road to San Francisco, this is a home game that’s going to be very important for them to bounce back and win.

Week 6: New York (Sunday Night Football)

Eagles-Giants is always an attractive prime time matchup.

The Giants have got to better than they were a year ago, but they’re a team that has so many problems that they won’t be able to patch everything back together in one off-season.

The Eagles should go into their bye with at least a two-game winning streak.

Week 7: BYE

Week 8: @ Arizona

Again, the west coast trip always gives me concern.

The Cardinals should also take another step forward in the second year of Bruce Arians at the helm.

However, with two weeks to prepare for this game, this is a road trip across the country that I’d expect the Eagles to be victorious on.

Week 9: @ Houston

The Texans have fallen back into rebuilding mode.

They’ll be better than the trainwreck that they put on the field in 2013, but this is another game the Eagles have to win.

Week 10: Carolina (Sunday Night Football)

The Panthers were one of the league’s surprise teams a year ago, having established themselves as a playoff team and one of the better defensive units in the conference.

A very tough game, but having the home field advantage should help a great deal.

Week 11: @ Green Bay

The Eagles beat the Packers on the road last year, but they’ll be facing Aaron Rodgers instead of Seneca Wallace and Scott Tolzien.

This is probably a loss.

Week 12: Tennessee

The Titans aren’t a very good football team.

Chris Johnson is gone, and Jake Locker has yet to convince anyone that he can be a successful starter in this league.

Very winnable game at home, but the Eagles must not look ahead to the following week…

Week 13: @ Dallas (Thanksgiving Day)

Eagles-Dallas on Thanksgiving day!

The first meeting between the two teams won’t occur until the end of November, and will likely have implications for the division/playoffs.

Week 14: Seattle

The Eagles will have extra time to prepare for their match against the defending Super Bowl Champions.

Playing this game in Philadelphia instead of Seattle is huge, but the Seahawks defense is capable of shutting down any offense in this league. This isn’t a game I expect the Eagles to win.

Week 15: Dallas

I really don’t like matching up with a team two times within three weeks. I think that’s really poor scheduling on the NFL’s part. This is also the final home game of the regular season.

Week 16: @ Washington

The second of three straight division games to close out the year.

Week 17: @ New York

The Eagles may very well be fighting for their playoff lives at this point in the year, but I don’t expect the Giants to have much to play for.

Final Thoughts

This is a pretty difficult schedule that only becomes more difficult and demanding as the year goes on.

A fast start is absolutely essential for the Eagles. They’ve got to go into their bye week no worse than 4-2, and they’ve got to make it to Thanksgiving no worse than 8-3.

The last month of the season is going to be extremely difficult. They play three of their final five games on the road. They’ve got Dallas two times in three weeks, with an elite team in the Seattle Seahawks sandwiched between those dates, and they have three straight division games (two on the road) to finish the year. That’s going to make for a very grueling final month of the season.

At best, I see the Eagles finishing 10-6, with eight or nine wins much more likely.

I’m counting on the games against Jacksonville, St. Louis, New York, Arizona, Houston, and Tennessee to be locks as wins.

I’m considering the games against San Francisco, Green Bay, and Seattle to be losses.

I believe they’ll split with the Cowboys and Redskins, and the games against Indianapolis and Carolina could go either way.

Of course, this is just an initial reaction to the schedule, and a lot still has to play out. The draft needs to be completed, and as the year plays out, injuries and other factors always play a role in determining how strong each team will be when the Eagles face them.

But right now, I believe this is a very challenging schedule for a team that I don’t think has improved significantly from what they were a year ago.

Completely agree with your record analysis. Don’t agree with some of your wins and losses (think they lose to Arizona, and the Rams, likely beat the Colts and Carolina) – but 10 – 6 is 10 -6 – though like you 8 or 9 wins is just as (if not mere) likely.

Firstly – sorry Paulman. I cannot believe the Eagles play in Dallas on Thanksgiving.

Secondly – early predictions:

Jax – win
@ Indy – loss
Wsh – win
@49ers – loss
STL – win
NY – win
4-2 going into the bye
@Ariz – win (Cards breaking in new QB at this point)
@Hou – win
Carolina – win
@GB – tough to predict. – L
7-3 after 10
Tenny – w
@Dall – L
Seattle – tough to predict – W
Dall – W
@Wsh – W (washington collapsing internal turmoil at this point)
11-4 going into last game
@NYG – L as Birds rest starters

The season comes down to the @GB and Seattle games….split those and Birds are good at 10-6 or 11-5.

Seahawks are so good at home the NFL would only schedule the mandatory 1st game of the season for SB champs at home in primetime. NFL was so scared that every primetime game in Seattle is a blowout they wouldn’t give them more than 1. night game at home. My goodness.

Not sure where they’ll finish up, hoping they’ll be at least 10-6…but the “fixing” of the defense comment is 100% real talk…The defense has a long way to go, and if they struggle like they did early on, this year, and with the schedule being how it is, the 2nd half of the season….it may very well be doom and gloom….
No Eagles fan should be happy with where we are on the defensive side of things…especially when the Eagles are once again at the top of the league in cap space….with some “ass” teams being there right with them….Browns, Jags, Bengals….

Denny, you said last years schedule was tough too and we were only going to win 6 games, so much for your predictions. Just keep in mind one thing, not only do we have to play them, they also have to play us! You can believe what you want on the improvement but I see us being even better this year with having some experience in this system, regardless of the schedule, this is our division to lose and I don’t see us losing it.

The Draft will have little to do with how the 2014 Season works out..
It’s not very common to have any Draft Picks make a big impact on your Season.. Unless it’s a QB, but that’s about it …
A Rookie WR or DE or Safety is not going to make a big impact to be honest..

Disagree. The draft can be very impactful to a season. Drafted players can quickly impact a season especially if they are low investments that end up strengthening a position.

High draft picks tend to have minimal impact record wise on teams because those teams are terrible to begin with from the most part. Saints/Chargers/9ers/Cards etc all benefitted from rookies last year that made impacts.

The Draft is very important, don’t get me wrong, but the 6-7-8 Players they select are not going to determine the success/failure of the 2014 Season is what I meant to say.. They may get 2-3 Rotational Players to provide more Quality Depth & Competition and added Special Teams Players, but I see no Starters or Rookie Picks who will make a significant impact until 2015 Season & Future
Seasons..

If they have 2 rotational players on defense offense from this rookie class it could have huge impacts. A redzone threat at WR could make an impact year one.

A situational pass rusher or CB or even NT. Star in Carolina made an impact day one.

Now superstar game changer out of this probably not.

Which is what I expect IJ

A Rotational DT (Da’Quan Jones from Penn State or Carauan Reid from Princeton) to play 20 snaps a Game and a Strong Safety (Ahmad Dixon or Isiah Lewis) who get some snaps during the Games and compete for more playing time…
A nice Slot WR (like Jarvis Landry) would make a nice impact and not only replace Avant’s production, but improve on them
Depth on OL & LB & CB will be added, but a significant impact is very unlikely unless injuries occur and a Rookie is forces to Start

Star was a Top #10 Pick and still didn’t take every snap until the 5th-6th Game of the Season as he split his reps with Veteran Ronnie Edwards and fellow Rookie Kwann Short at the DT Position- The Panthers did a nice job of Splittling the Snaps of 2 DT positions between 3 Players where they all performed, stayed fresh and got better as Season went along

People are seriously forgetting how terrible we were in the slot position and at the 3-5 wr spot last season. Not to mention no pass catching threat besides McCoy at RB. Jason Avant was a great guy off the field but on the field he was terrible in the slot last year from a pass catching standpoint. IF and big IF Maclin can stay healthy this where I think he can thrive this year and you can stick a rookie WR on the outside 10-20 snaps a game and just let him run deep posts and fly and if he is a monster help the running game when Kelly spreads teams out 3 wide.

They needed to draft a WR regardless if DJax was here or not. We got lucky neither he nor Cooper got hurt. Damaris Johnson can meet me at the Greyhound station and I will buy his bus ticket….and a pretzel.

I see that as well Green. However I don’t know how many times last year Avant was covered by a LB and was blanketed in the slot. The slot in todays NFL is crucial and we had limited production out of that position last year.

I am excited to see a two back set out of the backfield with Sproles and McCoy and Sproles goes in motion. That could be a devasting formation.

Eagles weren’t too good at the slot because they lacked a consistent threat at the slot…But they definitely got production from the slot….DJAX was moved all around and made plays from the slot…your best WR happened to be the best slot WR on the team as well…
DeSean Jackson (since 2008) in the slot
Routes: 609
Targets: 139
Receptions: 98
Touchdowns: 10
Percentage of routes in slot: 19.85

But a slot receiver now, is an even bigger need than past….When Sproles was signed I envisioned he’ll get time at the slot…Why have Sprole coming out of the backfield if McCoy is healthy? didn’t make sense to me…the depth is good, in case of injury, however the biggest impact Sproles has is in the passing game…We’ll need him in the slot to level out the offense…because Maclin and Cooper on the outside alone, won’t cut it…We don’t know how strong Maclin will come back, which is my biggest concern in regards to WR…
But also that 2 TE set could be used to counter the lack of a slot receiver…Definitely am noticing the versatility of the offense…But with a mediocre defense, it may not matter how versatile the offense will be..

Without factoring INJURiES , it is totally silly to predict Wins and Losses. But anyway you slice it, I can’t see either the Cowboys or Giants being very good this year. The Redskins have a pretty good offense so those should be tough. Everybody is marking the Seattle game down as a loss, but upon further review note that Seattle travels across the country to play a game which is sandwiched between the 2 games they have vs the 49ers. Classic trap game!

If they are 4-2 at the bye or better they have a legit shot at 10-6 11-5. The interdivision games at the end of the season are a double edge sword. I see the Giants and Cowboys being woefully awful this season so by the end of the season those two teams could be laying down big time. The Redskins are the one wildcard.

The 49ers game is an early tone setter for the season. They can’t get man handled in SF but if they beat the 9ers you could be looking at the hottest team first part of the season.

I absolutely hate the bye after 6 weeks though.

The 4 games after the bye make or break the season.

And with all that…..lol it means absolutely nothing depending on the draft, injuries etc.

I do love the thought process that a team that any realistic fan envision that at best was an 8-8 team going into the year and with a limited talent base coming off of 3 of 4 years of bad drafting, gets a new coach with an entirely different philosophy and they win the division. Now in year 2 if they don’t make the playoffs or are off last years pace its a total bust the coach is on thin ice etc.

The hypocrisy of the short term fools on here is nauseating.

Remember, going into 2012 Season, the Eagles were still a highly Taleneted Team who just packed it in and along with a Coaching Staff that had 1 foot out the door, & with injuries to Peters, Kelce right out of the gate and it became a lost Season.. a very similar situation with what happened to the Redksins in 2013 and even the Texans last Year…

On paper that team was talented. Chemistry wise etc that team was a disaster in the making. Bringing in that much outside talent that has no idea of your team culture etc is always a recipe for disaster.

Again most Championship teams form their nucleus in the first 3 years. If you have built a true winning team years 4-8 you should be a legit Superbowl Contender. We are nowhere near that IMO yet. Offensively we are close and its interesting how this offense will look….but defensively still to many holes.

However Pete Carroll RIPPED that team up top to bottom his first 2 years and his 2010 draft was outstanding. They grew took their lumps and by year 3 off of back to back great drafts and some key moves they had the beginning of a great team. By 2013…well you know the story.

You cats still talking about building through the draft not signing free agents I don’t give one damn how they get it done just do it and spare with with that we have 20 million in cap space because we’re smart meanwhile the real trophy case is bare assed empty.

You dawgs talking bout get it done with no plan and act like the v cap space isn’t a plan. They have cap space because it if 3 drafts previous to Kelly they didn’t draft anyone with a damn. Watkins Jarrett Graham Allen should have eaten that cap space up.

Cap space is bare assed because no one would tell Andy Reid the emperor has no clothes. That’s Luries biggest mistake.

And you supported Reid right?

Izell find me one fan who actually worries about cap space and what money the team is saving and I’ll show you somebody who needs a life, so Andy Reid was responsible for every draft pick? Also you did see where I said his time was done here right? Bottom line you wave pom poms for the front office I’ll wave mine for the product on the field. How it’s built or how much they spend doing it I could care less.

Man please no ones waving poms poms for the office. I’m not going to be a chicken little ass fool and say the sky is falling every 5 damn minutes they do something I don’t like. I was pissed when we didn’t get rid of Vick because we weren’t winning with him. I was done with Reid for a while.
Yes Reid was the final say on all picks. Banner was the bean counter. Don’t have revisionist history after the fact.

I’m not worried about cap space don’t put words in my mouth. I’m not rooting for a fools gold bullshit product. Like the bullshit Dream Team product. Why did we do that because Reid blew 3 drafts.

I need a life now lmao? Really? Because I don’t agree with you? Hahaha ok.

Hmmm I didn’t accuse you of not having a life, you just convicted yourself Izell, read what I wrote again. LOL, so Reid gets credit for Foles and Kelce and Maclin and trading for Peters and all the rest of the guys that Kelly coached last year right? Like I will continue to say who cares how the team is built or whether it’s fools gold or not as long as it leads to a parade. Forget Reid , or Buddy or every other non Super Bowl winning Eagles coach. As a fan it pisses me off when every avenue isn’t used to produce a championship so that’s me. Sorry if that offends you.

These are internet words lmao. Why would anything you say offend me. Lol I’m just referencing tone because I don’t want convo to go off the rails.

Who said Reid doesn’t get credit for picking a player. In b talking ENTIRE drafts. It’s fact that if you how you 1st and 2nd round picks they you basically put a knife in your own heart. Again simple cause and effect is you don’t have 20 mil in cap space if we hit on Watkins Jarrett Allen Graham.
I’m not sold on Foles or Cox etc. If you are give him a 20 mil signing bonus and 50 mill guaranteed right now.
I understand your viewpoint but I’m not getting pissed off yet. That’s were we differ. Just like you can’t stand Chip and I couldn’t stand Reid after the Arizona loss and Dawkins debacle.
And yes Reid gets all the blame he was the head sum bitch in charge.
Just like Kelly will deserve all the blame if his Djax gamble goes in the toilet and these last two drafts don’t pan out.

I surely hope gmcliff hasn’t had a stroke yet! I’m sure scouting roughly 1000 players doesn’t allow for much sleep or time to eat. I have accomplished my goal of getting someone to get their panties in a bunch. Relax gmcliff……I was going to have a house built in your area and HUD it out but the area is way to trashy for even HUD or Section 8.

Good bye all. Its been fun and I have maxed the money I can make from posting on this site. On to the next site. Good luck getting all 1000 players scouted by May 8th gmcliff.

My girlfriend, maybe future wife possibly, says she would help one of you’s get an “office cleaning” job bc her office needs to be cleaned but none of you would qualify bc burger flipping isn’t work experience….except paulman.

GMCliff – everyone has their own unique writing style. The way you, Clifford Dorsey add extra periods to your ellipsis and insert them incorrectly to your phrases. The way you , Clifford Dorsey add extra extending and trailing exclamation marks and question marks to your phrases. The way you, Clifford Dorsey capitalizes random words within a paragraph. Ironically Igglessb27 makes the same exact writing mistakes as Clifford Dorsey using extra periods in ellipsis, adds extra extending and trailing exclamation marks and question marks, and randomly capitalizes words in the middle of paragraphs.

Mine too Bruh…….It’s hard to win those types of contest, but it would be really satisfying to get up there and call him out in front of a national audience……LOL!!!

I know you said to ignore him, but I wanted to give him every chance to prove himself as well by getting him to give us a list of HIS players that he felt were going to be impact in the NFL.

He has sidestepped that every time – What he’s doing is he ‘s waiting for the draft results – so he can claim all of Howie’s picks genius, and claim as his own – assuming they’re going to be successful blindly.

He doesn’t want to put himself in a position where myself, or anyone else can criticize him ; and Give him a taste of his own medicine…

So he trolls, acting like he has a clue about these prospects, although you, I , and the rest on GCobb, know that I already mentioned, and evaluated most of these rookies before the season started last year – and even before they were ranked after the season –
You’re correct when you say he knows nothing – But if he wants to pretend he does – May 11th he want to go one on one with Howie – I’m going to sit back, and watch him make a further ass of himself….

I don’t want him to hide behind Howie – I want him to be the man he claims he is, and claim his own, based on his so called knowledge, and stand on his own two feet…..He’s a coward

I don’t have anything to prove to anyone – But when was the last player E0S has personally mentioned that was a Pro Bowler???
He will say Keuchly, or Russell Wilson, but they weren’t his. They were a combination of others that he claimed mentioning afterwards.

I don’t take him seriously. Biggie is right, he is a fraud….

Hahahaha Songs, 7-9? Sheesh.. Give them at least a .500 record..

I need to see how they handle this draft before I give a prediction on their record for the year..

I do know this, that its not gonna be as easy this year getting 10 wins.. Taking a quick glance at the schedule, this is no cake walk.. We have the SB winning champs, we have the team that was in the NFC championship game the 49ers, also even in week 1 against the Jags, they’re coached hard by Gus Bradley and have a very good defense, lets not graze over that game as a lock win, it could very well be an early season trap game.. Just a tough tough schedule…

Noone on here can say that they know for a fact that this team will win 10 or more games.. lets be realistic and wait to see how they handle this draft..

This is a critical one as many long time productive eagles like trent cole, todd herremans etc may be playing their last season with the Birds.. So they must infuse this team with young, talented, hard working players who may not be able to step right in and start day 1 but that have strong potential down the road…

I also expect a few trades.. BBrown, Graham and possibly VCurry.. they all may be goners on draft day.. They only have 6 draft picks, they’re lowest total in years… they usually carry at least 9-12 picks per season… Expect movement..

I see the Eagles at 10-6
They go 4-2 in NFC East (Sweep Cowboys
And Splits with Giants & Redskins)
They go 3-1 versus the AFC South
Then Beat Rams,Panthers, & Seahawks
To get to 10 Wins and Win the NFC East

E0S I guess I would agree, I haven’t noticed much of that stuff coming from you. I guess I am pretty niave, but I just figure that there are all different types of fans on here…..just like at the Linc….some are louder than others….some are more passionate than others….some know what they are talking about and some are more casual fans…..all different types who want to express an opinion. Even though I may disagree with a point, I believe that the more Eagles fans the better. Yes, sometimes a poster will hit a “hot button” and get a more aggravated response, but that can happen anywhere. I think that there are a diverse group of fans on this site that can often provide a persepctive on a topic that is different from what I am thinking….I truely hate when the topic goes far into a race abyss, but truely it has caused me to think of things in a different way and probably changed my point of view at times. I guess there is more going on here than I am able to pay attention to, but every fan on here adds to the conversation. I have played an coached football for many many years, but I respect many of the opinions that I see here and have learned things very often.

Just my thought and opinions. I know that I can sometimes be accused of some of the same techniques (especially with Songs), so I would understand someone questioning a hypocritical stance, but in general I think that the “give and take” on the site make it fun to read. Debating an opinion is all part of being a fan.

GO BIRDS!!!! Address that defense in the draft and I will be a happy man!!

Right DCar….

Here is my mock draft that we can discuss –

1a. Khalil Mack – I would like to see them make a major play for this talent – Pehaps – 3 future #1’s in 2015, 2016, 2018 to the Jags along with Bryce Brown, Evan Mathis, Matt Barkley, Zach Ertz, and Vinny Curry…..and keep #22…and trade down a couple of times down to the Browns, and 49ers for extra picks in the 2nd, and 3rd – and continue to trade down throughout the draft.

1b. Kyle Fuller – CB
2a. DeMarcus Lawrence – OLB/DE
2b. Cody Latimer – WR
2c. Deone Buchannon – SS
3a. Paul Richardson – WR
3b Gabe Jackson – OG
4a. Brandon Thomas – OG
4b. Daniel McCullers – DT
5a. Justin Ellis – DT
5b. Logan Thomas – QB
5c. Walt Aikens/Phillip Gaines – CB
6 Andrew Jackson – ILB
7. Tevin Reese – KR/PR/WR

I am sure any Team would Trade LB Khalil Mack Pick for 3 Future #1 Draft Picks and a All-Pro Guard in Mathis and up and coming TE in Ertz and how knows with V Curry… That’s a ton to give up for a LB..
Remember that a Team would have to be able to afford all 5 Eagle Players Salaries within their Salary-Cap which is pretty unlikley..

It would more likely take the Eagles #22 Pick, 3rd Round Pick, Guard Evan Mathis, Brandon Graham and 2015 #1 Draft PIck which is still a ton to give up for a LB..

but as i stated before i just take the draft as any other day, i dont know jack shit about college players but i love reading what you guys write so i can pick a few guys to check out their stats, videos… prior to the draft…

players who i pray eagles get one of in the 1st round are haha, pryor, denard, nix, cooks in that order in round 1. after that i got no clue.

Paul….If the Eagles can land David Yankey in the fourth round it’s a steal.
As far as bradley Robey is concerned, wasn’t smart of him to get arrested for an OVIyesterday. I don’t know if it will hurt his draft status, but I personally would prefer Jason Verret to Robey. With that being said, I don’t see the Eagles going CB in the first. I knowwe talk about BPA, but, I just don’t see them going in that direction. I’d prefer a trade down and taking Deone Bucannon and Christian Jones in the second, and seeing if Martavis Bryant and Marcus Smith would be around in the third. Then i would look at a David Yankey or Marcus Martin Guard USC in the fourth if he was there.

I didn’t realize that about Bradley Roby, so scratch him of my list
and Replace him with Kyle Fuller from Va Tech instead
I’ve been talking about Eagles Trade Down for additional Picks for a while.. If they could get 2 Picks each in the 2nd,3rd & 4th Rounds by Trading down from #22 and maybe Trading a Mathis, Graham and or Brown.. then I am all for it .. but lots of Teams want those extra picks in the 2-4th Rounds so trading down,up or with Players may not be that easy this Draft…

I would do that as well Paul,…I think Khalil Mack, fits perfectly, and would be awesome in this defense……You could also replace Ryans with him as well, and have him cover the TE, rather than Kendricks….

I like and try to keep the postings to Football and stay away from any personal attacks, name calling, childish acts for it’s just not worth my time or probably anyone else’s to even read about..
Life is too short for all of us, we are all passionate Eagle Fans here that want to see our Team win a Super Bowl and be the Best that it can be..
Some have Agenda’s which is fine and their perogative, but I choose to not participate to stay away from any of that and keep discussions, posts about our Eagles,or the NFL in General …
I like to bust balls, as everyone does, but I can take a good ribbing and admit when I am wrong which is plenty, but when things get way off base and personal, then it just degenerates the Site to a childish,non-fun & non-informative place to Visit.. but that’s just me..

If CJ Mosley falls to 22, do you draft him? If he does, id think strongly consider it.. Hes an inside LB and in this 3-4 we need two inside LBs…

Its not an immediate need but after this year DRyans time may be up and then we’d need one..

Also, who knows how negotiations will go with Kendricks… If hes there at 22 id consider drafting him.. But its not an immediate need…

Would defintitely have to think about selecting Mosely,
He’s probably rated anywhere from the 12th-15Th Best Player in this Draft and as you stated, there may not be a pressing need for him now, but would be awful hard to pass on… I think if they were able to get him, play him inside along Ryans and slide Kendricks to OLB in Trent Cole’s spot in the base 3-4 Package.. .
A LB Corp of Barwin,Mosley,Ryans & Kendricks would be a pretty damn good group with Speed, some Size and playmaking ability..

There are only 7 ESPN channels. They all carry games at the same time so no way you are watching all of them at the same time. AND they still only carry the major conferences and a few mid majors games. So how did you watch Div II and Div III or Canadien college games?

NEW YORK – The NFL believes the Eagles released DeSean Jackson based on football reasons and not due to alleged gang connections, according to NFL senior vice president of law and labor policy Adolpho Birch.

“I think we are comfortable that the decisions that were made on both ends were football decisions,” Birch said Thursday during a wide-ranging roundtable interview between top NFL officials and members of the Associated Press Sports Editors.

“Both sides, the objective that they sought from a football perspective, they got, whether that be the Eagles or the Redskins. I think the player’s going to be in a good position. I think at the end of the day, everyone was comfortable with that.”

When Birch was asked what gave the league that impression, he said it was “based on discussions, based on review of the situation.” He declined to offer specifics about what was discussed and with whom it was discussed.

No Eagles official has commented on Jackson’s release since the team made the decision on March 28. Jackson’s release came less than one hour after an NJ.com report about Jackson’s alleged gang connections. The Inquirer learned that the impetus for the team’s decision was a combination of factors that include the wide receiver’s off-field behavior and the effect it would have in the locker room.

The Eagles had tried to trade Jackson, but believed the Pro Bowl receiver was virtually untradeable after the report emerged. Jackson has since signed with Washington. When Birch was asked about Jackson’s alleged gang connections, he said there’s “certainly no indication that the club reviewed or looked at anything like that” when releasing Jackson.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was available on Thursday because there was no NFL draft on Thursday night. Normally, the draft would have been this week, but the NFL pushed it back two weeks because of Radio City Music Hall’s schedule.

“It hasn’t really affected the calendar dramatically – from a football standpoint, it’s moved everything back a little bit,” Goodell said. “But from our standpoint, it’s another two weeks people are talking about the draft. It wasn’t designed that way. It was designed purely because we had a conflict at Radio City. So we’re looking at how we can continue to make the draft bigger and better.”

One way that Goodell mentioned was potentially taking the draft on the road to different venues. He said calculated changes such as moving to prime time and shortening rounds have helped the draft.

Former Eagles standout Troy Vincent, now the NFL’s executive vice president of football operations, also emphasized that a later draft could push more players to finish their college education and earn degrees. It also means that rookies will join the teams deeper into the offseason.

One rookie who will receive considerable attention is Michael Sam, who is set to become the first NFL player who is openly gay. The workplace environment was a major point of discussion at the league meetings in March. Former NFL player Wade Davis, who came out after his career, spoke at the meetings.

The league expects that Sam will find a professional environment. Vincent said he played with six openly gay players in 15 seasons, and they were accepted into the locker room.

“We didn’t see them any differently,” Vincent said. “We watched film together. We traveled together. They were our roommates on the road. We just performed. They’re players. We don’t look at them any differently, and I don’t think the players today would treat them any differently.”

Don’t sleep on Corey Richardson from Troy..
I project him as a WR/Returnman/Wildcat QB in the NFL and could be a real steal for someone as an Undrafted Free-Agent..

The Eagles will go 7-9 this year……the offense takes a step back and the defense is average with no game changing players

I’d be fine with that Diddy – Little bit of a reach in the first though – anybody but Re’Shede Hageman, Marquise Lee, Kelvin Benjamin, CJ Mosley, or Stephen Tuitt…….

I Believe Eagles will Trade Down from #22 to the Browns
(#26) or the 49ers (#30) and obtain another 3 Rd Round Pick
And possibly another Pick from 49ers in 4th or 5th
And then Select WR Cody Latimer with their Selection while getting additional Picks which is not a bad way to go ..
You get your Targeted Player in Latimer and you get an extra-pick or two..
