Notes From The Phillies’ 3-2 Loss To Miami

dombrownfireThe Philadelphia Phillies lost their game against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night, falling 3-2. Their record drops to 35-42.

  • A.J. Burnett pitched seven strong innings, allowing three runs on five hits.
  • Burnett may have gotten through the night with no runs allowed if not for a misplayed ball by Domonic Brown in the fourth inning. Brown missed a catchable line drive that ended up costing the team all three runs that they allowed.
  • Brown did manage to drive in a run at the plate tonight at least, going 1-4.
  • Jimmy Rollins went 2-5 with a double.
  • Marlon Byrd went 3-4 with three singles.
  • Chase Utley went 0-3, and drove in the team’s other run.
  • Cody Asche finally cooled off a bit, going 0-4.
  • Antonio Bastardo pitched a scoreless eighth.
  • Justin De Fratus worked a clean ninth.

Final Thoughts

Just what the heck happened to Domonic Brown?

A year ago, Brown was on the verge of making the All-Star team while providing the team with a ray of hope for the future.

Today, Brown is batting a woeful .217 with just five homers and 38 RBI’s. He’s been anything but dynamic in this lineup, and he’s butchering routine plays in the outfield on a daily basis.

Brown isn’t giving the Phillies any reason to believe that he’s going to turn things around. The only reason that he’s still in the lineup everyday is because the team simply doesn’t have any other options. If Darin Ruf were healthy, he’d most likely be platooning with Brown at this point.

I don’t know how any Scout labeled D Brown a 5-Team Player
It’s been very obvious that he simply cannot judge a ball of the bat and has always looked uncomfortable and unsure when balks are hit to him..
As a former Outfielder, you either have this skill or you don’t
He plays scared out there and it’s embarrassing to me how any Player
In MLB can be so inept as an Outfielder from positioning,
Breaks off the bat, angles to cut off the ball and
Catch to throw transition, etc, etc…
He’s clueless out there…
