Notes From The Phillies’ 6-2 Loss To Pittsburgh

burnThe Philadelphia Phillies lost their third straight game on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Pirates 6-2. Their record drops 37-51.

  • A.J. Burnett turned in seven solid innings, allowing three runs on five hits. 
  • Burnett struck out seven, and walked two.
  • The Phillies’ offense scored just two runs on four hits.
  • Ryan Howard and Chase Utley were held out of the lineup for rest.
  • Marlon Byrd went 2-4 with another home run, and supplied both of the team’s runs.
  • Ben Revere and Cody Asche were the only other Phillies to pick up hits.
  • The rest of the lineup went a combined 0-20.
  • Justin De Fratus was unable to record an out before allowed two runs to score in the eighth inning.
  • De Fratus has now given up runs in three straight appearances.
  • Jake Diekman gave up a run on a hit and two walks.

Final Thoughts

The Phillies offense just seems to be getting worse and worse.

In their last 10 games, they’ve only scored more than three runs twice. Over this weekend series, they only managed two runs per game.

And this is what Ruben Amaro and Dave Montgomery consider to be an effort from the franchise to stay competitive?
