Eagles Uncomfortable At 3-0

foels4What to make of this Eagles team is going to be a question we continue to ask ourselves.  A 3-0 start to the season for the first time in over a decade, how can’t you get excited about that accolade?

Well, looking a bit closer into the Redskins game; we had absolutely zero pass rush, lost another key piece to our already shambled offensive line, were  unable to do anything with the rushing attack and our secondary was completely gashed by a backup quarterback.

Can we continue to come back in games, or does that luck, drive or whatever you want to label it as; run out as some point?  I would think this recipe for success would finally run out against a team like the 49ers; but then again, I’m not so sure anymore.

Look, the 49ers are playing poor football, and can’t afford to drop to 1-3 on the season with how the Seahawks and Cardinals are performing.  They have injuries and suspensions to key players, and question marks surrounding their defense and offense just like us.

Initially when I saw this game on the schedule, I really believed it would be two undefeated teams matching up, and I gave the upper hand to the home team.  This was going to the first loss of the season for the Eagles, the tough, physical style that the 49ers play would be too much for the Eagles to overcome.  Funny how things can change in the NFL, the 49ers have looked beatable, they’ve been beaten, and last week it was to a backup quarterback.

By no means am I thrilled with how the Eagles are winning, but I’m satisfied that they keep on winning.  How is this offensive line going to look against a solid defensive line on the 49ers?  Kelce and Mathis are top players at their respected positions, watching the effort of the backups last week was brutal.  Seeing McCoy trying to find holes when there are none and the indecisiveness to how he is moving on the field, where is “Shady?”  I get that defenses are game planning to stop him, so the offense is finding other ways to score; but McCoy has to play better.  The 49ers are 7th in the league at stopping the run, and the screen pass is going to be called less with the state of the offensive line, this is when the creative mind of Chip Kelly comes into play.

I can no longer hand this game to the 49ers like I did when making my projection for how I felt this season would go.  I can’t tell you how the Eagles will attack on both the offensive or defensive side of the football, and how this game will ultimately play out.

What I do know is this team will compete until the game is over.  They know who they are; their roles as both individuals, as a team and they respect their opponent, and prepare well for battle.

Sunday should provoke some doubt that the undefeated season comes to an end.   We have a few games that will evoke this feeling; but we knew tougher opponents were on their way when the 2014 schedule was officially released.

Does the style by which we have won so far provide you ease or create worry going into week four?

A few years back roseman when asked why the Eagles drafted roles his biggest reason was because he would take an insane pounding at Arizona behind a shit o line and keep battling and performing well. Nobody should be surprised by his toughness he showed last week nor what he will show this week

Just win baby …Al Davis …I don’t doubt well see more boykin and carol this week and maybe bill Davis can take his prior familiarity with S.F. And devise a game plan that actually allows the team to play from ahead rather than behind..not having won a game at home and staring at 1-3 now that’s uncomfortable …

The style creates great worry, especially because well hey this is the NFL, any given Sunday right? Or maybe we are seeing a team that not only gets better as the season goes on, but as the game proceeds as well. That’s a scary notion for any team. In todays world of excess, I would take a well conditioned decent team that gets their rest, doesn’t party all season long, vs very good team without that type of discipline. This is a long season, with long games, and the team that does not ware down at key positions, AND manages the NFL injury bug with exceptional backups, will be in the hunt through January.
By the way if anyone really thinks the eagles do not make halftime adjustments your crazy. Maybe they have a two half game plan? Hmmmm..

I said it once, and I will say it again McCoy had a concussion and should not have come back into the game. I thought he was getting a rhythm when he got wacked in the head. After that play, he faded drastically, and danced around confused in the back field the entire game. I’m not worried about him. He definitely finds a rhythm and gets better with touches. McCoy is tough. Not a concern.

Uncomfortable because of the defense but remember honestly they are better than the 3 teams they beat. Do they win Sunday? I saw yes they do the Niners are struggling and I think the Eagles gash them 31-20.

Thanks Jeff — didn’t even consider him but yeah he is on the team and played an important role last week. Completely forgot about Wade Smith

If you asked me after 4 Games of the Season
With 2 Road Games vs Playoff Teams from last Year
That the Eagles would be 3-1 or possibly 4-0
I would be elated.. Especially how they Played the 1st Half of those first
2 Games with Foles and Offense looking shaky at best
To me, this game is important as all 16 Games are,
But the Eagles are pkaying with house $$$ and though they are banged up
So are many Teams in the NFL.. This is where, depth, Coaching and Scheming and Adjustments are done and where Ciaching earns their Pay
I have chronicled the 49ers all off-season as a Team that has many issues
And underlining problems happening in their Lockerroom, Coaches and GM
That I am not going to list them again
The Eagles can put the 49ers into further misery and likely end their Playoff Chances for 2014 with a Victory over them which would gave tree 49ers with 2 NFC Cobferences losses already and still have 2 Gamex with Seattle,1 with Cardinals,2 with Rams, 1 with Saints, 1 with Broncos still left on their Schedule
Eagles should be loose and play agressive ky for all the pressure is on the .49ers this week which is a must Win in my book

As far as McCoy goes, I was more concerned about that 2nd hit to the head he took on the 2nd to last series when he was defenseless which is where I think he could have repurcussions down the road from..
I would think about sitting him and gave Sproles/Polk take most of reps and Carries this week
This will be another game where the 49ers will crowd the line of Scrimmage
And will have to be won on the right arm of Foles and the passing attack
49ers Secondary are young, aggressive and inexperienced and can be had down the middle of field and exploited by the TE’s
I expect an Eagles Win in another high-scoring Game
34-30 Type of Game
2 Receivers that I am concerned with are Anquan Boldin who has killed the Eagles throughout his Career and the speedy Steve Johnson who is the most healthy he’s been in a while..
RB Carlos Hyde is also the big type of back that gives the Eagles fits

PMan – I don’t see speed in Stevie Johnson’s game at all. He looks like a carbon copy of Boldin. A thick mack truck who uses his body. I don’t exactly think Michael Crabtree is fast but that is the only speed I fear out of the 3. Boldin and Johnson are slow pokes and both bigger than Crabtree.

Ive done a total 180 on Maclin. After further review sources and film study say Maclin could easily have 200 more yards and 15 more catches on the season. He has been running wide open all year long. I fully expect him to torch the 49ers this Sunday. Hes still on pace for 115 catches 1600 yards and 16 tds. He looks so much faster, tougher and playing with a chip on his shoulder. My hats off to Maclin he definetly has quieted the thousands of fans who criticized him. I still would of loved to se Djax on one side Maclin on the other with Matthews in the slot and Sproles and Shady and Ertz but hey hes doing his thing.

If you saw the “all-22” on Maclins screen pass (shoulda been a td), you’ll understand why they kept Cooper over Desean (attitude or not).

At the LOS, Cooper seals his DB outside, and gets him moving backwards while Peters heads upfield to take out the safety springing Maclin.

That play goes nowhere if its Desean on the outside because Desean gets steamrolled.

It isn’t pretty, but when you break down what Kelly likes to run, you get an understanding why the WR moves were made.

Besides, Mesean is still a biatch. I hope he enjoyed his little backwards romp into the endzone while his team lost….well in fact I know he did, because the day after his loss, he was tweeting that he ‘got his’, and that’s all he cares about.

Vinny was the OL blocking as bad as the results looked last sunday when you watched the all 22 video ? McCoy couldn’t get loose and Foles was taken vicious rib shots.

Y it was bad. It was bad up the middle, and around the tackles! Look again at the sideline pass to Maclin (Foles’ best career throw). He gets sandwiched between 2 edge rushers as he delivers the ball.

As for the run game, Kelly loves to rely on guards (even tackles) pulling to the other side. Are we going to be able to see this from Tobin and whatshisname at centre? And who is the RT this week?

I think the Eagles will be able to pass block (a bit) this weekend, but the running game????

Oh, I think you’re going to see a lot of SF blitzed right up the guy on Sunday……so Shady better get his blocking on.

Maclin is the key for Shady. Shady at his press conference yesterday fielded a lot of “whats wrong with the run game” questions. You could sense his frustrations with his answers but he said we are still winning. “If you want to put 8 in the box to stop me then we will beat you through the air. We need one more big game from the receiver’s to take that extra man out the box IMO.

Eagles have the #2 passing attack in the league right now. Not sure how much more he is expecting from the passing game.

any idea who I should want to win tonight to benefit the Eagles playoff chances? The New York Football Giants or the Washington Redskins? Is that Giant first round pick playing tonight from LSU?

Giants WR O Beckham JR is still out with that “Hamstring” and has not even participated in a Full Practiced yet all Summer long or now that the Season has started…. He most likely won’t be ready until mid to late Season and to be honest, he’s so far behind per Coach Coughlin that he probably won’t even be activated unless their are injuries to other WR’s..
In a Nutshell, this has been a lost season for Odell Beckham,Jr…

Correction that Beckham did actually Practice Tues in his first Full Practice as a NY GIant… Team says he is still ruled out for tonights Game
GIants LB J Beason is also out for tonigt

As far as who I favor to help the Eagles cause..
I would rather have the Redskins win tonight to set the Giants further back to 1-3.. Since the Eagles already beat the Redksins and have a leg up on them, I would Prefer the Giants who always seem to play better as the Season progresses further back

good info PMan — I was curious because the Redskins gave up 3 touchdowns against the Eagles speed receivers running speed routes past corners then turn for football when touch goal line. I thought the promoted speed of Beckham could duplicate what Matthews and Maclin did tonight.

Redskins lost their best Cover CB in D’Angelo Hall for the Season so we will see lots of WR’s Victor Cruz, Tim Jernigan & Corey Washington, running down the Field while big Targets WR Rueben Randle and under the Radar TE Larry Donnell will work the middle of the Field versus the weak Safeties/LB ‘s the Redskins have in pass-coverage

Redskins CB’s will be 2nd Year Dave Amerson, Rookie Brashaud Breeland and Old Timer Tracy Porter..
Expect the Giants to have a Field Day Passing the Ball if Eli gets any know of Protection

Giants 34 – Redskins 30 in a game very similar to last weeks contest between the Eagles/Skins

Breeland went one draft spot after the eagles selected Jaylen Watkins at corner. I will always connect those 2 together hoping the birds made the correct selection.

Yes he did and I like Breeland’s upside much more than Watkins
He’s got longer arms and reach and plays very Physical..
He is getting thrown into the fire a bit now, but I believe has
All-Pro Potential in 2 Years time.. Watkins, I am not so sure about.

It also helped that Breeland practiced that last 2 Years while at Clemson, versus Sammy Watkins and Martavius Bryant.. So he was going against Pro-type of Athletes every day while at Clemson..which is what I had in some of my Mock Run-Up Notes about Breeland… A nice Pick for Redskins

I am interested in the Giants/Wsh game for one reason….they installed a new offense. It shouldn’t really be a surprise that they struggled through preseason and first couple games with it. Now those struggles were pretty epic, agreed, but still…probably expected.

Was the Houston game a sign that they’re turning the corner, or was it just Houston already giving up a bit because they know they have Ryan Fitzpatrick under centre and any effort they put out is wasted anyway?

Personally I think Eli is finished. But I want to see how that plays out.

I think best result is a Washington win as Eagles have a tiebreaker there. A couple more giants losses mean open “we secretly hated Coughlin all along” mutiny by the time the Eagles play them.

As for the Skins, they’ll muddle along at .500, Snyder will force Gruden to put IRIII back in in 8 weeks, pissing off the coaching staff and half the team only to watch him lose both his starts, ending their playoff chances. The coaches will defy Snyder and go back to a pissed off Cousins and get fired for it!

Good times.

BTW – Thursday teams usually have a stupid home field advantage, but that might be negated here a bit because the Giants cruised last week while the Skins lost in a war.

This team is still young. They are doing great for a “rebuilding” team. NFC East is theirs but I don’t think they can get into the conference championship game without sorting out that defense.

I need someone’s opinion. Is there a OLB out there that can immediately upgrade our pass rush? I’m thinking James Sheard from the Browns
