Notes From The Phillies’ 4-1 Loss To New York

Cole HamelsThe Philadelphia Phillies lost their Grapefruit League match to the New York Yankees 4-1 on Friday afternoon.

On The Mound

  • Cole Hamels made his Spring debut, and threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and picking up two strikeouts. 
  • Nefi Ogando pitched a scoreless third inning.
  • Mike Nesseth pitched just one inning, and allowed three runs on four hits and two walks. Don’t expect to see much of this guy in the majors this season.
  • Jake Diekman pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
  • Ken Giles made his first appearance of the spring, and had a bit of a rough outing. Giles gave up one run on one hit and two walks.
  • Andy Oliver pitched two innings, and gave up two hits and walk while striking out four.
  • Luis Garcia pitched a scoreless ninth.

At The Plate

  • The Phillies managed just one run on four hits.
  • Pinch-hitter Xavier Paul scored the team’s only run with a solo homer in the seventh inning.
  • Odubel Herrera went 1-3 with a single out of the leadoff spot. 
  • Freddy Galvis went 1-4 with a single.
  • Grady Sizemore went 0-2, dropping his average to .167.
  • Ryan Howard went 0-2, making him 0-6 in his last two games.
  • Darin Ruf got a start in left, and went 1-3 with a single.
