The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly agreed to a contract and are ready to sign free agent Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl running back DeMarco Murray, later today. According to Adam Scheffer of ESPN, the NFL’s leading rusher in the 2014 season is on his way to Philadelphia with the intention of signing a five-year contract with the Birds for $42 million dollars and $21 million dollars of guaranteed money.
You know Murray, who is 27 years old has to eager to sign that deal.
Murray is the kind of one-cut back that Chip Kelly loves. He’s going to be north and south after he makes that cut and Murray doesn’t lose yardage very much on his runs. LeSean McCoy is a great back, who can make something out of nothing because of his ability to make people miss, but he’s not Chip Kelly’s type of back.
The Cowboys had refused to give the big, physical running back millions of dollars of guaranteed money, but the Birds have reportedly decided to do so. Yesterday, Murray had put a call in to Eagles head coach Chip Kelly to let him know that he’s eager to play for the Birds. I know he’s happy he made that call.
It’s a precarious situation for the Eagles and Murray because San Diego Chargers free agent running back Ryan Matthews is also in town to meet with the Eagles. He has reportedly already agreed to a three-year contract with the Birds, but the presence of Murray could change that.
Matthews is reported to have left the Eagles Nova Care Complex this morning without signing a contract. Murray is supposed to arrive in Philadelphia around 3:30pm. There’s sure to be a gang of reporters and cameras there waiting for him when he arrives.
It’s a crazy situation, but exciting for Birds fans, nonetheless.
Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford, who was recently traded to the Eagles for quarterback Nick Foles, is best friends with Murray They played together during their college days at Oklahoma. Yesterday, Bradford expressed a desire to play with Murray here in Philadelphia.
The former Oklahoma running back had a record-setting year in 2014 as he amassed 392 carries, 1,845 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. He won the rushing title by about 500 yards.
With the recent anticipation that Murray signs with Philly and Rahim Moore goes to Houston… I’m curious to know Jon Hart’s stat line regarding his “inside knowloedge” of Philly’s moves this offseason. In all seriousness, it’s got to be 1 for 10, give or take.

Dorial Green-Beckham seems like an unbelievable talent at 20 but has major off-the-field issus which will likely scare the Eagles away. I agree that we need a WR, Safety, and Guard as some have pointed out. The o-line is aging so we may need to address that early in the draft. Bradford needs all the protection he can get.
I thought the 4th rd pick was for next year. Well I’m sure we can make that happen without giving a lot up and yeah that one trick is all we need. Stills is faster than maclin and defenses have to respect his speed
