The Philadelphia Phillies had their two-game winning streak snapped on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Nationals 4-3. Their record drops to 3-3.
On The Mound
- Sean O’Sullivan got the start, and pitched six solid innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk.
- O’Sullivan struck out five and allowed a solo home run.
- Luis Garcia pitched a scoreless seventh.
- Ken Giles pitched a clean eighth.
- Jake Diekman pitched the ninth, and got the first out of the 10th. However, Diekman would give up a double to Yunel Escobar that would eventually come around to score the go-ahead run.
- Justin De Fratus allowed an inherited run to score on a wild pitch. De Fratus would give up another run on two hits.
At The Plate
- The Phillies generated just three runs nine hits.
- Ben Revere went 1-4 with a walk.
- Freddy Galvis hit out of the two-hole again and went 1-4 with a walk.
- Cody Asche returned to the lineup, and went 3-4 with a walk and an RBI single.
- Ryan Howard went 0-4 with four strikeouts and left six men on base.
- Jeff Francoeur got a start, and went 0-4.
- Odubel Herrera got the start, and went 2-5 with an RBI-single in the 10th.
- Cesar Hernandez went 1-5 in a start at second.
- Cameron Rupp gave Carlos Ruiz the day off, and went 0-4.
- Darin Ruf entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the seventh, and hit a solo homer run to tie the game.
Final Thoughts
The Phillies came very close to sweeping the Washington Nationals, but their offensive weaknesses prevented them from doing so.
Through six games the Phillies have failed to score five runs or more in any of their outings, and they’ve only generated more than three once.
