Notes From The Phillies’ 2-0 Loss To New York

Chase UtleyThe Philadelphia Phillies lost their second straight game on Monday afternoon, falling to the Mets 2-0. Their record drops to 3-4.

On The Mound

  • Aaron Harang turned in another solid start, going six innings and allowing just one run.
  • Harang gave up four hits and a walk and struck out two.
  • Jeanmar Gomez pitched the final two innings, and allowed a run on two hits and two walks.

At The Plate

  • The Phillies were shutout for the second time this season, picking up no runs on seven hits.
  • Ben Revere went 0-4 with two strikeouts, dropping his average to .156.
  • Odubel Herrera played center and went 1-4 with a single.
  • Chase Utley turned in another brutal game, going 0-3.
  • Ryan Howard went 1-4 to increase his average to .167.
  • Carlos Ruiz went 0-4 with a walk.
  • Grady Sizemore went 0-4.
  • Cody Asche went 2-4.
  • Freddy Galvis went 3-3 with three singles.

Final Thoughts

The brutal offense of the Phillies strikes again.

How long will it take to see a game where this lineup generates five runs or more?

The lack of power on this club is absolutely brutal. With Ryan Howard batting .167, and Chase Utley .091, the heart of the order has never looked older.

What’s worse is that Ben Revere, a guy whose claim to fame was his ability to hit .300, can’t buy one on credit at the moment.

The Phillies pitching has been a pleasant surprise so far but their hitting has been as advertised. Its obvious changes need to be made and it needs to start at the front office. How do you expect fans to show up to the games with Ruben still as the GM? They need to regain the trust of the fan base and that starts with firing Ruben Amaro.

Also, we need to get rid of Ryan Howard ASAP even if its just for peanuts. Darrin Ruf needs to be our every day first basemen as I see him being a serviceable starter for our rebuilding process. Also opens up a position for when Dom Brown gets healthy. I’m really hoping Dom can regain some confidence otherwise our outfield has 0 prospects and 0 players who should be full-time starters.

when your 3 and 4 hitters are a combined .100 you have no shot.
ryan howard has become the most tragic figure in sports… his 4-5 year run was historic- if he had another 3-4 years almost as good he’d be HOF. Instead, injury and I really believe the metrics in baseball has become so good that hitters are at a real disadvantage… scores are down averages are down.

No relief today with Harvey on the hill for the Mets.

well they will hang with howard until the deadline I pressume. then give him away if they can. obviously they don’t think all that much of ruff – I’d like to see an infield of ruff, asche at 2, galvis and franco… i dunno how good it’d be but…

I’ll be fine when they get rid of Chase Utley too…this guy has had more of a free ride than any Phillie in history. He looks awful at the plate right now…striking out…
Ryan Howard has been bashed unmercifully…the guy who supposedly stinks so badly was still 4th in the NL in RBI’s last year…
Yeah its time for Howard AND Utley to go…
