Notes From The Phillies’ 4-1 Loss To Washington

Ryan HowardThe Philadelphia Phillies lost the finale of their series with the Nationals, falling 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. Their record drop to 4-9.

On The Mound

  • David Buchanan fared much better today than he did in his previous two starts, allowing three runs over five innings.
  • Buchanan gave up six hits, and held the Nats scoreless through four frames.
  • Buchanan ran out of steam in the fifth, allowing a couple of doubles during a three-run outburst.
  • Justin De Fratus pitched a scoreless sixth.
  • Dustin McGowan allowed the Nats to tack on a run in the seventh.
  • Jeanmar Gomez pitched a scoreless eighth.

At The Plate

  • The Phillies generated just one run on seven hits.
  • Odubel Herrera went 1-4 with his fifth double of the year.
  • Freddy Galvis went 1-3 with a walk and drove in the team’s only run.
  • Cody Asche hit third, and a went 1-3.
  • Jeff Francoeur went 0-4.
  • Ryan Howard batted fifth, and went 1-4 with a single and two strikeouts.
  • Cesar Hernandez got a start at second for Chase Utley, and went 1-3 with a double and a walk.
  • Ben Revere was given a start in left field, but went 0-3.

Final Thoughts

Freddy Galvis has been another one of the Phillies’ few bright spots in the first two weeks of the regular season.

Galvis has managed to keep his average over .300, he’s delivered four multi-hit games, and he’s among the team leaders in RBI’s with six.

Whether or not Galvis can consistently keep up this level of production remains to be seen, I don’t think Galvis is anything more than a .250-.260 hitter at best.
