A Look At The 2015 Eagles’ Schedule

ChipKelly1On Tuesday night, the NFL released their schedule for the 2015 season.

And now, naturally, it’s time to go through each week and make early projections for wins and losses.

Week 1 @ Atlanta

For the second time in three years, the Eagles open up the season on Monday Night Football.

The Eagles will face Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and the potent Atlanta offense.

Opening up on the road in Atlanta’s dome is a difficult challenge, and I think it’s going to be tough for a team with so many fresh faces to go on the road and steal a win.

Week 2 vs Dallas

A year ago, the Eagles had to wait until Thanksgiving day to meet the Cowboys for the first time. This time around, they’ll get to face DeMarco Murray’s old squad in Week 2.

When I look at the Eagles and Cowboys, I think that Dallas is still the better team. But my heart tells me the Eagles have a good chance to win this home opener.

Week 3 @ New York Jets

Even though the Jets have shaken things up in the off-season, they’re still a pretty bad franchise.

This is a game the Eagles should win no matter how you look at it.

Week 4 @ Washington

The Redskins are also still a bad organization, but they always play the Eagles tough.

Last year Washington put the final nail in the Eagles’ coffin in Week 16, and also came close to winning a shootout with the Birds in Philadelphia back in Week 3.

I have the Eagles beating the Cowboys and Jets, but I don’t see this group ripping off three in a row.

Week 5 vs New Orleans

The schedule really starts to get tougher in early October.

The Saints are down another weapon in Jimmy Graham, and are also coming off of a down year. I wouldn’t write off Drew Brees by any means, but I think the days of the Saints being an NFC powerhouse are over. Brees makes this a tough game, but this is one that the Eagles should win at home.

Week 6 vs New York Giants

I think the Giants are primed to make a run at taking back the division this year.

With Odell Beckham in his second year, the return of Steve Spagnulo as defensive coordinator, and the comeback of Victor Cruz, New York is a dangerous team this year.

The Giants should come with their best effort for this on after being swept by the Eagles last year.

Week 7 @ Carolina

The Eagles play the Giants on Monday night in Week 6, and will then be featured on Sunday night in Week 7 against Carolina.

The Eagles embarrassed the Panthers last year with Mark Sanchez at quarterback, and the Panthers aren’t anything more than an average team.

Week 8 BYE

Week 9 @ Dallas

Fresh off of the bye week, the Eagles meet Dallas for the second time this year.

And this game will also be featured in prime time, giving the Eagles three straight games under the big lights.

I gave the Eagles the home win against Dallas early in the year, but I don’t think they’re going to sweep the series.

Week 10 vs Miami

The Eagles get a break from prime time games with a very winnable home match against an average Miami squad.

Week 11 vs Tampa Bay

The Eagles get another layup at home. The games against Miami and Tampa Bay will be absolutely critical for them to build momentum over the final month of the season to try and make their playoff push.

Week 12 @ Detroit

For the second straight year, the Eagles will make an appearance on Thanksgiving Day. This time, they’ll be visiting the Lions.

Detroit is as inconsistent and unpredictable as any team in the league, but I don’t feel that the Eagles are capable of winning a third straight game.

Week 13 @ New England

This game will be the mirror-image of last year’s trip to Green Bay.

The Eagles should have no business winning this game, and will be blown out by one of the league’s true elite teams.

Week 14 vs Buffalo

LeSean McCoy comes back to Philadelphia!

Boy, when the Eagles lose a star player, we never have to wait long to see them again.

Terrell Owens leaves after 2005, returns to the Linch in 2006. Brian Dawkins leaves after 2008, returns to the Linc in 2009. Donovan McNabb leaves after 2009, returns to the Linc in 2010. Andy Reid leaves after 2012, returns to the Linc in 2013. DeSean Jackson leaves after 2013, returns in 2014. And now McCoy.

I like what the Bills have been building over the last couple of years, and their defense combined with some good young offensive talent should make it hard for the Eagles to overcome them.

Week 15 vs Arizona

Chip Kelly vs Bruce Arians, round three!

I think Arians has done a better job with less talent available to him than Kelly has had, and I expect the Cardinals to be a playoff-caliber team in the NFC once again, which likely means another loss for the Eagles.

Week 16 vs Washington

The Redskins will be long out of the playoff race by now, but that won’t stop them from trying to upset the Eagles for a second year in a row.

That being said, I think the Eagles split the series and take this one at home.

Week 17 @ New York

I really hate that the NFL holds off on a lot of division games until the final weeks of the season.

While I understand what they’re going for in trying to set up these dramatic showdowns within the division, I hate waiting until the final week to finish off the season series against either Dallas or New York, especially when its much more likely that things will be decided by this point.

Final Thoughts

I know, I know.

Predicting wins in April doesn’t have much meaning, and it’s even harder to do when we really don’t know what this team will really look like.

But it’s all just for fun.

Right now, I look at this schedule and I see between six and eight wins.

I see this schedule playing out very similar to the 2014 year. I have the Eagles starting out 6-4, but fading during the final stretch of the season.

Beginning with the Thanksgiving Day game in the Detroit, the final stretch of this schedule is pretty rough. Along with the date with the Lions, they’ll be walking into a buzzsaw in New England, they’ll face a couple of tough scrappy teams in the Bills and Redskins, and tough matchups against the Cardinals and Giants.

Remember that this is an Eagles team with so many fresh faces, and a great deal of question marks. I think there a lot of holes on this club, and right now I honestly feel like even projecting them to go 8-8 is very optimistic. I haven’t at all been on board with Chip Kelly’s off-season moves, and this is a legitimately tough schedule even if I believed the Eagles were a good team.

A very favorable Startwhere Eagles should and need to Start 3-1
And then a favorable finish with only 2 close road games after Thanksgiving
(Foxboro/Meadowlamds)
Week 5 thru 10 is the tough stretch so a Fast start is imperative..

Not a bad schedule actually.

If you think they win 6-8 games with that schedule then you really have no faith in this team.

With that said I don’t have any predictions to make. Team’s too knew…QB situation is sketchy – no telling what they look like moving forward.

Really hard to argue about all of the holes with the roster, and trying to predict wins/losses without knowing the starting QB is really difficult.

Even if it ends up being Bradford, it will be fingers crossed that he remains upright for the season.

The illusion remains in my head that Mariota could be the starting QB, and then the reality kicks in and I need to see how Chip drafts.

Even if Sanchez starts majority of games this season because Bradford goes down again, the Eagles “WILL”make the playoffs and “WIN” the NFC EAST.

What’s with all the love for Dallas? Great oline, but if healthy so is ours! Great WR – but aging and injury prone TE and QB – and the defense still sucks. Can’t see them shutting many teams down. Question is, can we, or anyone, slow them down – like we did last November.

I do not want to make out Dallas to be better than they are…but I don’t think you can really look at the November game last year as a true indication of how the Eagles stack up against the Boys.

Boys played an emotional Sunday night come from behind last-minute win game against the Giants.

Allegedly left NYC around 2:00am. They weren’t in their houses back in Dallas till5:00 or 6:00am, so Monday they slept all day…Tuesday was a treatment day…and then they traveled Wednesday for Thursday afternoon game.

They didn’t practice at all that week. No specific prepping for the Eagles, and they were tired.

That was a pretty easy wipe-out to predict.

I do not think the Cowboys are as good as people think they are, but I take that game with a grain of salt.

Same with the December game. Dumb mistakes (opening fumble leading to quick scores- 2nd string QB – home field, etc
Show me the team with the fewest injuries, and I’ll show you who is in the play-offs. If Dallas loses just one key lineman, there are toast. Scratch running game. Scratch Romo’s health. Maybe that defense will carry them.

Chip wins the easy ones 90% of the time. I see 5-6 games on this schedule that should be W’s. Only non-winnable game I see is against the Patriots. Every other game we can definitely compete it.

Idk, maybe I’m being optimistic, but I like the way this schedule is laid out for us.

The schedule seems very favourable right now…but I think the year will rest on games 1 and 2. (I know it sounds sill to put so much importance on 2 games….but its the corner Kelly has painted himself into with all his “debateable” moves)

No matter what anyone says, going to Atlanta on Monday night is tough, followed by Cowboys.

Split those, (or win both) and the next 4 games are all win-able. That could set the ball rilling for a wild run.

However….as I stated, that’s a tough 2 game start.

They lose both and the media/fanbase will begin exploding as usual…turning those @NY, @ Wsh into early “must-wins”

I really think the Eagles should be heading into the week 6 NYG game at 4-1….but an early slip and it could easily be 2-3 or worse.

A very Favorable Schedule for the Eagles …

3 of 4 Games to Open are on the Road but Two (Falcons & Jets) are against Teams with completely new Coaching Staffs and are led by 1st Time Head Coach’s so should be a big advantage to Kelly & Eagles
Th Eagles should be 3-1 after their first 4 Games

Then 2 very important Road Games vs the Panthers and Cowboys mid-season are sandwiched around a “Bye Week” which is good

Then after Thanksgiving, for a home Stretch of 5 Games, the Eagles are Home 3 Times and only have very short Road Trips to Foxboro & Meadowlands so the Eagles are basically Home the last 5 Weeks of the Season…

If Eagles get off to a Fast Start, Break Even in the Middle Stretch and then Win 3 of 4 down the Stretch, they should compete for NFC East Crown.. But its going to take a Strong Effort every week regardless of Opponent..
I believe the Giants, Redskins, Panthers, Bucs, Dolphins, Bills are all Better Teams than they were last Seasons

Have to give it to the NFL. The hype machine is the best in sports history for any sport.

I have us at 5-2 before the bye week.. Playing at the Georgia Dome is never easy. But it helps Philly in its up-tempo offense being in doors. And them being a average defense at best and with a brand new personnel we should take it. Dallas at home is a 50/50 but I see us also winning just because it will be payback, and DeMarco will go for 145 on them. The jets are also a team with QB problems and even if they draft Mariota it will also be another new coach with a rookie QB. Washington will be the ultimate pay back game for them knocking us out of the playoff contention. And New Orleans I see as being done without a Jimmy Graham, Malcolm, Sproles. Brees is still great, but he will not be able to do it alone. I see us losing to New York though. I really think it will be between The giants and eagles running for the division this season. The only other game we potentially lose it to Atlanta just because its tough to play there with a sold out crowd on Monday Night. But it is very possibly to be at 5-2 / 6-1 before the bye barring any major injuries. I actually reside in the City of Atlanta and attend Georgia State University. So I will be attending that game for sure.

I see Dallas not being as lucky this season with there oline going 5/5 without any injuries. Tony is aging, and Witten is aging. 1900 YARDSs is going to be hard to replace. A running game is a Qbs best friend, and not saying it wont be good, but not way as good as last year because there due a injury on the oline. Not to mention nobody is going to sleep on there defense this year.

It happens every year though. It’s almost impossible to predict the schedules W/L column just because of the fact that injuries and surprising teams arise, and some teams fall out of no where. Every year I swear I look at our schedule and say “OH MY god, is the hardest one yet” Then as the season goes on it seems to be a little easier than looking at it when we did in the offseason. Oline first round, DB/WR second, Olb third

I agree that the 3 Headed RB Situation will take a lot of Pressure off of whoever is QB, but to win the Big Games over the Top Teams for deep Playoff Runs, your QB still has to make some big plays down the field or with their legs..

I think La’El Collins will be an All-Pro in 2-3 Years Time and appears to be the Best all-around OT With upside in this Draft Class with Ereck Flowers & DJ Humphries not very far behind..

Sherff will be a good one also, I see him more as a RT or a Guard
but these Days, both LT and RT need to be athletic and good for More Teams have more Pass-Rushers than they did 5-10 Years ago so Pressure comes from both sides on the good Defense’s

Oh….also forgetting that Badford flat out laughed at/rejected the Browns original contract extension offer and has bacically said “FU” to the Browns and has no interest in playing for them long term.

The Browns are going to trade 2 firsts and a 3rd rounder for a guy who has all but announced he has no interest playing for them.

Sure. Fine. I understand he doesn;t want to sign an extension – the reason is irrelevant.

The issue is that no team is going to toss away picks on a guy if there is no guarantee they control that player’s rights for more than 1 year.

(Clearly only the Eagles do that!)

The scenario presented today isn;t really “a pick”

Its the 12 and 19 this year for Bradford (nver will happen) and a 1st next year.

That’s the other reason this is ridiculous….whenever a team gives up a pick this year, they always get back a round higher the following year…

ex…a 4th in 2015 gets a 3d in 2016.

If Bradfor is “worth” the 19 (he isn;t, but for fun we’ll humour it),,,,then what are the Browns getting for the 12th???? The Eagles 1st rounder next year?? What will that be? 10? 20? 25?

The trade proposal bouncing around the internet today was beyond stupid in 1000 different ways……..please stop bringin it up as a possibility.

You have the “Real Father” of 2 of the top 50 NCAA basketball recruits and neither of them know him yet or that they are brothers. You have equivalent access to the father of Sammy Watkins and Jaylen Watkins and they don’t know they are related. Jaylen Brown is the #2 recruit in the country and he doesn’t even know he has a brother ranked in the top 50 named Tyler Dorsey. ESPN’s Adam Schefter said the hypothetical of the Eagles trading up for Oregon QB Marcus Mariota is now a “possibility.”
“Count me in the camp that does consider that an option and a possibility,” he said on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia on Monday. “And I was not in that camp a month ago, but I’ve come over to that side.” CBS’s Jason La Canfora agrees: “[Chip Kelly] loves Mariota. He’s willing to do whatever he thinks is best for his organization, conventional wisdom and consequences be damned. He simply doesn’t care. He’s capable of pretty much anything and his peers don’t believe for a minute he’ll watch someone else draft Mariota without a fight.” Lastly, Oregonian columnist John Conzano, who covered Kelly in college, concluded the following: “[Kelly will] get it done. Only question is what it will ultimately cost him. He doesn’t leave draft without Mariota.”

I find Adam Schefter as a very legit source when it comes to trades, and rumors in the NFL. I read the article he’s not saying it’s 100% certain the Eagles will make a move for Mariota, but he is saying there is a strong possibility. Which in my opinion is the most significant opinion on the Mariota carousel of any outside source.

Its absurd. Every GM in the league would do it in less time than it takes to pick up the phone. Its a gift of epic propottions.

There’d be 2 other GMs fired the day after something like that would happen.

Again….you want to talk about the Birds moving to moving to #2…go ahead…come up with a scenario……..but please….try not to insult the entire NFL while you are at it.

If it took 3 firsts and a 2nd to move up 4 spots for a QB 2 years ago….it isn’t going to cost 1 1st, a gimp and a 2nd round RB to move up 18 spots 2 years later….that’s like a 75% off sale.

If Mariotta was the goal……

Why did he win the Giant game?
Why make the Foles trade so early?

Both limited his ability to get Mariotta….

If QB was the problem….

Why not take Bridgewater last year??? (Smith instead??)

Because all those moves would have taken long term vision. The ability to see beyond this year. To weigh the long term consequences/impact of decisions.

Is that happening here as the Eagles lurch from Gore to Matthews, to Murray, back to Matthews, to paying the 4th highest cb contract ever to a guy with 19 starts, to overpaying for shitty Sanchez when there was no market for the guy, to Tebow, to QB trades 2 months before they were needed (or probably wouldn’t have been needed at all as Bradford would have been cut) to all-in for Mariotta……….

Is this long term vision….or simply lurching from today’s great idea to tomorrows great idea??

Vinnie, there was no guarantee Mariota was going to enter the draft as he had another year of eligibility left to play in college. Do you think Chip was thinking about tanking the game to have a higher draft pick at that time for the purpose of getting a guy he did not know for certain was coming to the NFL. Trading Foles was simply because he wanted to upgrade, clearly Nick was not a hot item so he just did what he could to get rid of him (Nick).
My advice is stop trying to make sense or reason out what Chip is doing, no one can.

EHL….exactly Nick Foles was not a hot item his value was not what many thought.

In a League desperate for QB’s with little to choose from in this Years Free-Agency Market and Draft, In the End, Jeff Fisher did a much Better Job of Selling Sam Bradford and his Potential around the NFL than Chip Kelly did with Nick Foles ..
Which is all part of the learning that Chip Kelly has to improve on, if he wants to get better value of Players when Trading them like Foles and McCoy

I have changed course again. I now believe that Mariotta to the Eagles is a done deal. I also believe Kendricks is part of the deal and possibly Cox to go along with Bradford and that Mathis if not traded will be released. There is to much smoke coming from league sources.

Dag, I never stopped believing that Chip is going to make a serious push for Mariota. At the end of the day I believe Chip will try to get him. Does not make sense to keep harping on it though because there are so many variables involved, plus the simple fact that he may simply go one or two. For the record I still believe Winston goes one and Leonard Williams goes two to the Titans.

I now believe Mariota goes at #2 in a Trade (Chargers, Browns,Saints, or Eagles)
DT Leonard Williams probably ends up dropping to #4 (Raiders) or #5 (Redskins)

Izzell,EHL ..you are missing the point(s) ..he did know when he won that giant game ,that his team was on the threshold of being blown up.What was to be gained by being 10-6 ,back to back seasons? I will allow ,he didn’t know he was going to get the keys to the car ,New Years ..What I think Vin and I and others, are questioning ,are his meandering ways …no plan ,just a reaction to the now .As far as Foles value on draft day vs trading him earlier (as we did) ,we’ll see what the Rams do on draft day ..and what’s offered if they dangle Nick foles ..It’s all conjecture at this time and place,I’m on the side that he is a GM that is unconventional ,and he’s learning on the job.

desert, Big L, pman, and myself have been saying that Chip has been making it up as he goes along, and that the organization was seen as dysfunctional, we were laughed at. Now, ever since Chip has tossed Nick Foles like a bag of old crab legs in the summer heat, people who laughed at us are now saying what we have been saying since January..lol..what took you guys so long.
I do believe Chip knows what he wants, he’s just funny with his talent evaluation and his process of how he goes about his business.
I think Chip is going after Mariota, that is why I have not been wasting my time with posting my mock drafts. I do not know what may be given up to achieve this.

EHL I disagree I highly doubt he is making it up as he goes along. What you wrote is what make people think it. His approach is unconvential but its not insane. Each move thats made if you dig on em in the end they make sense. Hes been upfront saying everyone is tradeable. So if you look at everyone being an asset even the Bradford moves makes sense.

Personnel wise I didnt want Maxwell….would have rather had McCourty(if we could have gotten him) then when with two mid tiers on the outside. I agree with letting Maclin go and trading McCoy. I dont agree with letting Mathis go unless you upgrade both guard spots then because I dont think Barbre is a full time starter at guard but they see more obviously than we do.

Still way to early to make any declarations good or bad otherwise because like you said until the dust settles draft day we wont really have a clue on what they have. And even after the draft they will be aggressive.

I like Chip Kellys approach. Its aggressive and its outside of the box thinking. Im tired of same old approach…its gotten us nothing.

Those that criticize about arrogance etc. IMO have never been around big time sports. No one had a bigger ego and arrogance than Andy Reid. Every coach in the NFL worth a damn is an arrogant prick. To many on here make much ado about nothing.

chip must of concluded that this Eagles roster peaked at the 6th-8th best team in the NFC and he is probably correct. He is changing everything. 3 new secondary starters, 2 new LB starters, 3 new offensive skill position starters and potentially 2 new OL starters.

Thats the exact point EOS. The roster peaked. This nonsense I am hearing now that the Eagles were one or two pieces away from being a contender is pure horseshit.

Izell, I’ve been around big time sports my entire life, I have family members who have played in all 3 major sports leagues and that arrogance statement is a bunch of bullshit. IMO you do not have to be an arrogant asshole to be successful and if that’s so why are so many guys fired or flame out? Oh wait they weren’t arrogant enough.

BigL players and coaches are too entirely things. Football coaches are the EPITOME of arrogance..especially the successful ones. The anomaly is a guy like Tony Dungy. The norm are the Parcells/Johnsons/Belicheks/Coughlins etc.

And Izell I’m not disagreeing on that, what I’m saying is this guy thinks he can just line anyone up and win. If he wins with the roster he has right now, he has sold his soul to the devil and when I say win I’m not talking about 10 games.

BigL….we couldnt win anything more than 10 games with the roster we had before this one and the one before that one.

Thats why none of this bothers me.

We let the previous coach name the offensive line coach the defensive coordinator.

Chip Kelly has done NOTHING REMOTELY CLOSE TO THAT lmao.

Redskins are trying Mariota Drops to them so they can trade Back with the Browns for their #12 & #19 PIcks
The Redskins have quietly had a nice off-season with have re-tooled their DL and Updgraded their Secondary with CB Culliver and Safety Gholston
as well as getting rid of old DC Jim Haslett
Give New OL Coach Bill Callahan time and some Talent along the OL and he will get the Redskins OL playing well which has been their biggest problem over the last few Years
I expect the Redskins to Trade either WR Garcon or D-Jax in over the Draft.. I still see D-Jax ending up in Oakland

A dark horse Team will be the NO Saints…
Payton is ready for Post-Brees Era as they have not been the Same Team since Payton was Suspended for that 1 Season while Brees held out for Bigger $$$.. Something is amiss in their Relationship and I believe Payton wants to rebuild with a more Younger & Athletic QB like Mariota

Saints have #13th & #31st Pick in the First Round
Have RB’s Ingram & CJ Spiller which could be a nice 2 Headed Monster for a Young QB to play behind..

Redskins definitely need a talent upgrade on that OL. I think they missed on Morgan Moses in last year’s draft in the 3rd round too. More Teams want to trade down than move up. ( Buyers market )

Moses plays too Soft to ever be an effective Starting NFL OL
I didn’t like him last year when he came out..He’s a Nice & Smart Kid,
but just doesn’t have that mean/competitive streak in him that you have to have, playing in the trenches in the NFL
If they Stay at # 5 I see them Drafting Brandon Scherff or possibly La’el Collins ..
