Thoughts On Ed Marynowitz’s Press Conference

edEd Marynowitz met with the media on Thursday, and had a number of interesting things to say.

Here’s my take on some of Marynowitz’s comments.

Marynowitz Says He’s Not A Yes-Man

One point that Marynowitz tried to make clear was that he wasn’t hired to be a Yes-Man for Chip Kelly.

While Marynowitz may not want to be labeled as a Yes-Man, all of the evidence so far suggests otherwise.

Marynowitz himself admitted that his disagreements with the head coach have been “few and far between” and that he’s looking specifically for “Chip Kelly guys”. That to me sounds like a guy who was hired to simply be an extension of Kelly’s agenda rather than a unique entity with his own ideas capable of keeping the head coach in check.

Also, the team’s moves this off-season have had nothing but Kelly’s egotistical fingerprints all over them. Make no mistake, the Eagles’ decision-making process is one-man show and everything that has been done so far has been a Chip production, and the other executives like Marynowitz that have been involved have simply been serving as Kelly’s arms and legs to help complete his vision.

On Potentially Trading Up

Marynowitz added some fuel to the Marcus Mariota fire by commenting that we should never say never when it comes to the Eagles trading up.

While he also added that the team wasn’t interested in giving up the future for one draft pick, I think it’s pretty clear that the Eagles are going to do everything in their power to find a way to move up.

They’re going to have to decide whether or not they can live with parting with multiple first-round picks to get a deal done. The Eagles are kidding themselves if they think using Sam Bradford in part of some complicated three-team trade will be the difference in saving them from having to part with future number-one picks. Bradford may indeed end up being part of the deal, but make no mistake the Birds will have to part with multiple first-rounders to get such a deal done.

The NFL has gotten a look at Chip Kelly’s performance in making trades with other franchises, and if I’m the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, or any team involved in trade talks with the Eagles I’m doing everything I can to take advantage of Kelly’s inexperience as a front office executive and trying to fleece him just like the Rams did when they got him to package a second-rounder along with Nick Foles to acquire Bradford.

no doubt losing a top of the line NFL talent evaluator like Howie Roseman this draft might be devastating if Marynowitz or Kelly is not as competent.
Ruben Frank wrote an article where he ranked every Eagle first round draft pick ( 1-38 ) since the merger. He ranked Fletcher Cox #13 and Lane Johnson #14. Two nice Roseman picks. Marcus Smith was ranked 5th worst.

Denny..if a person has to come out and say ,they’re not a “yes” man, then give some examples of something, anything you’ve contributed to the process. What you’re alluding to ,are checks and balances,or a tempering ,and colaberative process. The one apparent problem,is ,chips got final say.So it’s muted ,at best.

The Eagles have painted themselves in a corner with this draft. Anything less than Mariotta on draft day will be a huge letdown to the fan base no mater who they take. Can you imagine if Mariotta goes to say the Redskins then the Eagles draft a Olineman. In the end it may be the best choice but for now it would be a monumental, wated 4 months for who for what?

Let’s just hope Chip gets it right or else we as Eagles fans are butt f**ked for many many years. It frightens me just the thought of trading away multiple 1st round picks. Say a prayer on draft day boys
