Byron Jones Likely Target For The Eagles

ByronJones6Remember, all of the Eagles brass went up to Storrs, Connecticut to see UConn cornerback Byron Jones on his Pro Day.  Chip Kelly and Ed Marynowitz both missed James Winston’s Pro Day to travel to the Connecticut campus to see Jones work out.

“We’re not into going just to go”, Marynowitz said last week. We’re not into smokescreens.”  I think he was telling the truth.  If you focus on who they’re spending their time with, you can identify the players they’re likely to select in the draft.

He has the measurables that the Birds like from a cornerback and he’s a freakish athlete.  You know that this group believes the numbers.

Jones stands 6’1″ weighs 199 pounds has 32-inch arms and 10 inch hands.  The Eagles want their cornerbacks to be tall with long arms.   He ran a 4.36 seconds at his Pro Day.  At the NFL Combine, his vertical jump was number one at 44.5 inches.  His broad jump was number one at 147 inches.  He was number three amongst the cornerbacks in the 3 cone drill at 6.78 seconds and his shuttle time was 3.94 seconds which was 3rd best amongst the cornerbacks.

Another fact about Jones which makes him a target for the Birds is his versatility.  He has played an entire season at both safety and cornerback.  I could see the Birds drafting Jones as a corner, but they may end up using him as a safety.  He fits the bill because the former UConn star would have no problem covering wide receivers man-to-man.

This is the reason Alabama’s Landon Collins will not be a Philadelphia Eagle pick.  He’s an in the box safety, who will hit like a linebacker, but unfortunately he also covers like a linebacker.  He is not what the Birds want at the safety position.

If the Birds are unable to move up to get Marcus Mariota, then Jones is likely to be scooped up by the Birds late in the first round or early in the second.

agree,
#20 pick – I think the Eagles will take CB Byron Jones.
Never seen Connecticut play, I hope he can. I like 5 star blue chip recruits entering college who maintain that grade level leaving college as first rounder prospects (Less mistakes like Danny Watkins or Marcus Smith) which is why I would like the Eagles to use their first round picks on top 10 programs prospects who were always considered elite. 2nd rounders are for the Vanderbilt, Cal Berkley, or Connecticut players.

They should be able to trade down a bit and still get that guy. This is where I hope they aren’t too stubborn and ignore Roseman on something like this. He may or may not have been a good talent guy, but he could manipulate a draft board(s)

My Eagles Draft Strategy
Trade Down from #20 to either to the Broncos 28th or the Colts 29th, where the Eagles pick-up an additional 3rd Round Pick for doing so.. (Broncos it would be the 92nd Pick , the Colts it would be the 93rd Pick)
Then I Trade LB M Kendricks to the Raiders for their 3rd Round Pick (#68th Pick)
I then Trade CB Boykin and their 5th Round Pick (#156)
to the Jaguars for their early 5th Round Pick (#139th)
Finally, I Trade both Guard Evan Mathis & LB Marcus Smith II to the Miami Dolphins for LB Dion Jordan straight up.

Eagles then have the Following 10 Picks

1st Rd (#28th or #29th)
2nd Rd (#52)
3rd Rd (#68, #84 & #92 or #93)
4th Rd (#113)
5th Rd (#139 & 145th)
6th Rd (#195)
7th Rd (#237)

The Eagles would end up with 8 Picks out of the Top 145 Selections
plus OLB Dion Jordan and would clear the Payroll of Kendricks, Mathis, Boykins & MSII all off the Books

This Plan was approved by the Association of Future NFL GM’s

That’s CB Boykins & the Eagles #156th Pick to Jaguars for #139th Pick

Why do you want so many 3rd round picks? Statistically only 15% ever make it – and not necessarily stars. Trading away proven players for gambles leads to 4-12.

Kendrick’s, Boykins & Mathis don’t fit Kelly’s
future Plans, so u may as well get some Value
Before it’s too late…
There are many Good Players who were
3rd Round Selections
I would try every Draft to get as many Selections
Of the Top 100-125 Players
3rd Rounders are not going to Start right away but can play Special Teams and learn behind Veterans and then compete for Starters spots by
Year 2-3
Most 1st Rounders do not Start their Rookie Seasons either
Once outside the Top 10-12 Selections

If the eagles want this guy the need to either take him at 20 or trade up into the early 2nd. he won’t be there past 40. LOVE him though

If Eagles really want CB Byron Jones, than they need to take him at #20 since the Steelers at #22, the Ravens at #26, Cowboys at #27, Packers at #30, Seahawks at #31 and Patriots at #32 are all in need of CB’s and all like this Kid very much also…

Per 97.5 the Fan..Adam Schefter is reporting that the Eagles and Dolphins had a deal in place for a trade of Dion Jordan pending his drug test. Jordan has allegedly failed the drug test and will be suspended. This squashed the deal.

Report just came out the Dion Jordan is suspended for the entire 2015 season for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. Supposedly the eagles had a deal in place (i don’t know the details), but since Jordan is suspended for the year the deal is not happening.

Funny thing is he isnt going to appeal the suspension he’s taking the “I accept the consequences for my actions” approach. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Dolphins traded him before next season for a bag of deflated footballs

Dion Jordan is a loser, and a waste of talent he will be out of the league in a few season’s. Guys like this are not focused on football, and often they don’t realize they have destroyed the best opportunity they ever had in life until it’s too late.

Word is that Chip Kelly is going to go thru the Deal anyway and Send
the Dolphins Evan Mathis & Marcus Smith II for Jordan who Kelly says is a good kid and who he will invite to have Dion stay with him to help him get back on his feet again.. Chip feels he owes this to Dion Jordan…

I never understood why so many on here were so high on Dion Jordan from
GMCliff right on down the line to many regular Posters on here.. I said this Guy was a Bust all 2013 Pre-Draft Run up and that he actually had produced very little on the Football Field to deserve all the Hype as the 3rd Overall Pick of the 2013 Draft..
I will also go on Record right now and State that Last Years #1 Overall Pick,
Jadeveon Clowney will also be a Bust and have a short, underwhelming NFL Career

I never said I was high on him Paul. I said I wouldn’t be against drafting him, because out Linebacking core was average.

So it was understandable why they would draft him. – Because the Eagles wanted him too, and wouldn’t have drafted Lane Johnson had he been available FYI…

You know I identified Ziggy Ansah, and Sheldon Richardson, as the players I wanted that year…..#1, and #2 in the rookie of the year voting – excuse me that’s what I call spot on……

Why do you always make it your objective to point out that GMCliff liked this guy or wanted this guy??/ What are you looking to accomplish??

I know what I’m talking about Bruh….

Stupid to allow Dolphins to move up ahead of them to get Jordan and
Then youb were mad that the Eagles Drafted OT Lane Johnson..

They were….. if they wanted to draft him, but that doesn’t mean I was high on him Paul…..I

I didn’t like the Lame pick, as I stated I wanted Ziggy Ansah, and Sheldon Richardson, and you know it. Right after they drafted Lame, Denny asked who I wanted, and it wasn’t Dion Jordan.

If you make an observation, it’s totally unnecessary for you to compare your take on things to mine. Mine are more correct than your anyway.
