Report: Evan Mathis Is No Show At Eagles OTA’s

EvanMathis5According to Derrick Gunn of CSNPhilly.com, Eagles Pro Bowl left guard Evan Mathis was a no show for the start of this week’s OTA’s at the Nova Care Complex.  It’s a voluntary camp so there will be no fine of Mathis for his absence.

It’s not a major surprise since Mathis and his agent voiced their desire to be traded to another team earlier during the off season.

I guess he is expressing more of his disappointment with the failure of the team to work out a trade, which involved him.

C’mon Evan we need you big bro! The line won’t be the same this year if you hold out.

this feud seems strange to me. Mathis signed a decent contract just a couple of years ago I think??? now I do understand a 33 year old football player has a small window to make his money, and I understand from managements perspective they don’t want to extend a 33 year old. Seems they could have both gained something by one of those end of career extensions that add a year and spread the cash out? I

It does seem odd, but Mathis has little to no leverage at all even though he’s a highly regarded player but at his Age and Current Contract, no other Team is going to pay him equal or more $$$ for a Guard.. It just doesn’t happen in the NFL for one of the least valued Positions which is Guard…

***Trade Alert/Rumor****

Eagles Trade Evan Mathis to the Miami Dolphins for their 2016 4th Round Draft Pick which should be around the 115th -120th Pick in the Draft

No one is going to trade squat for him because no one wants to take on the oldest guard in the league who is demanding a contract extension.

No one is going to extend him at this point. So why would anyone want to pick up a guy who’sjust going to continue to be “disgruntled”?

Honestly, what’s this guy’s deal? He has to know no one is going to add years to his deal….again…oldest guard in the league.

Maybe he wants out for other reasons….who knows…

All I do know is if he leaves, we’re down 2 starting guards……enjoy David Molk again.

This is why he should have been gone already, & the lack of offensive linemen added this offseason, is more infuriating, & head scratching. Nah, we don’t need any O-linemen, let’s wait another 2-3 off-seasons, until we send them all out there with walkers! Porcelain knee doesn’t need protection, he’s fine! The genius let’s 3 pro bowlers go for squat, & continues to hold onto a greedy, journeyman, O-lineman, an overpaid, useless WR, & held onto a stiff MLB 2 seasons too long!! Stubbornness? Biasness? Ineptness? Stupidity? Whatever you want to call it, it’s ridiculous! The genius is in over his head, & this ain’t going to end well. Look forward to him being gone in a year, or 2, especially now that his NCAA ban is up, & he can go back anytime he pleases.

Hell he doesn’t fit the culture just release him, it’s not like he’s Djax or Maclin just plug in a free agent and this offense won’t skip a beat let’s call St. Louis and ask Foles how plug and play helped him feel comfortable in the pocket. All Djax said was yeah I think I outperformed my deal and it was oh my goodness let’s run Meshawn outta here. Too funny

For me La’al Collins was right there for the Eagles to use at LG, or RG in the 3rd Round, making this transition easier – but no, we let the Cowboys have him……..sounds genius to you????

We had an extra 1st Rounder handed to us, and stupid as we are – we looked a gift horse in the mouth..

cliff there was NFL collusion taking place there– every team passed on him 7 times.

He wasn’t a suspect, or even rumored to be in any trouble. Big mistake, and miscalculation of facts to avoid drafting another Offensive Line man at one of the most needed positions on the team…

cliff look at the big picture — the NFL at that time did not know he was 100% cleared- they did not want a guy just drafted into the shield that was possibly a black eye– all teams were in cahoots– it wasn’t a mistake, they weren’t allowed to draft him

I stated when the story broke out 2 days before the Draft and when Collins returned back to Louisiana for questioning with the Authorities that no Team would Draft him, that the NFL mandated that all Teams stay away until more information was gathered and known about the Case
No news here, In the end, Collins wanted to be a Day 1 Starting OT in the NFL and moving to Guard was not appealing to him, the Eagles had zero chance in signing him to be a Guard for 2 years before moving to OT as I stated..

Drafting him in the 1st, or 2nd Round would have been difficult to justify Ciggy, but were talking about the 3rd Round.

I think it was mistake. In fact is was a flat out mistake…..

So how did that mistake benefit the Eagles……they lost a potential starter to our biggest rival…….just dumb….

Cliff–its called collusion — otherwise someone would have drafted him– it wasn’t a mistake — it wasn’t allowed — the evil empire wouldn’t allow it–

LOL!! The evil empire wouldn’t allow it huh Ciggy??? I love it

Seriously though, This will be just as debatable as when the Eagles collusioned not to draft Earl Thomas, and drafted Brandon Graham instead – anyway you want to sling it – it was a dumb move – a mistake

you seriously can’t compare this to making a draft of one player over another player– thats flat out stupid. 32 teams passed 7 times! Look up the definition –Cliff– ALL 32 TEAMS PASSED– They didn’t lose out anything– I said at the time and will say now– if he was drafted and indicted the headline reads “The whichever teams newest member indicted, The NFL has another bad guy’ If he gets indicted without being drafted…”X LSU player indicted’–

Cliff you just don’t understand that its a multi-billion dollar machine– and they’ve taken enough black eyes recently– even the patriots backed down–you understand why the did don’t you? because 32 really rich guys who own teams got in a room and said…’kraft, we all have our own printing press, we print money 24/7, we need this out of the news cycle-‘
come on cliff- this isn’t going to be debated– those same 32 owners got a memo from the league saying ‘look this guy collins probably wasn’t involved but we just can’t say at this point…further, lets let the legal system clear him first..’

No I completely understand Ciggy….

It’s just at this time I don’t agree with the process, only because the Eagles haven’t benefited from it – and we are hurting at the Guard position right now.

I can’t help thinking what if someone had been more in tuned…..

cliff thats the cost of being in the billionaire club…. sometimes you have to conform to their conservative rules-
remember when they brought in vick (some would say a game changing player) and how much work they did with the league/commish…. sometimes the billionaire club works for you, sometimes against– unless you are the raiders then its always against.

Lael Johnson was passed on by 32 teams 7 rounds straight. He went to a tax free state for the team that could essentially pony up the best cash.

Stop the nonsense that the Eagles did something wrong.

Ehh, they are voluntary OTA’s. Keyword ..voluntary. DJax is still the best offensive player on that team..exactly what benefit is there for him to go to voluntary OTA’s? And why concern yourself with it, he is no longer an Eagle. The only reason mention is being made with Mathis is because the friction between him and kelly.
Just to add to it, 6 Washington players missed voluntary OTSA’s too.

Simply a non-story. Only people who are writing to get clicks or do not like Jackson will make an issue out of a non -issue. Slow news day material. Jackson is always a lightening rod for hits…invoke his name and walah.

So what’s more important Mathis being the only Eagle missing ota’s or Djax being 1 of 6 Redskins missing, and add on the fact who gives a hot damn about the Redskins.

I think it deserves mentioning simply to put the exclamation point on what type of character/lack there of Jackson has…and why his mysterious dismissal was necessary

I would not be surprised to see a couple of Vets Traded or flat out released in Washington.. They have a a new No-Nonsense GM, New DC and Staff and New OL Coach in Callahan and these Coach’s along with HC Gruden really have little vested Interest in Players that were brought in by other People (Like former GM Bruce Allen, etc, etc)
Just like in Philly, where Chip Kelly Got rid of big name Players that didn’t fit his program, watch some Veteran Players like A Roberts, D Jackson, D Hall, T Williams see their way out the Door

Paul, you are a serious hater of DeSean Jackson…..

I hope he does get rid of DeSean, so he can comeback to Philly where he belongs, and should never have been released in the first place…

If that happened it would serve your ego right…….because you would deserve that…..Jeremiah Trotter humbled himself and came back, so can DeSean, Chip Kelly, and Paulman….
