Chip Kelly And Earl Wolff Are Not On The Same Page

EarlWolff5Eagles safety Earl Wolff was supposed to be in competition for a starting safety spot in the upcoming season.  He had micro fracture surgery last year on his knee and expected to be healthy and working out in April or May at the latest.  Instead, it’s June and Wolff hasn’t been able to anything in the off-season workouts.

Chip Kelly called out Wolff yesterday in his news conference before the team’s OTA workout.

“Earl has done nothing except stretch,” said Kelly. “There is not progress right now… He was cleared by Dr. (James) Andrews a couple weeks ago, but it’s what he can tolerate, so…”

Wolff, who did go through the individual part of the drills with his teammates.  That was the first time he has done anything in the workouts with his teammates.  After the workout, Wolff let it be known that he didn’t agree with the way Coach Kelly had framed things.

“When they said ‘cleared,’ it wasn’t like, I’m cleared to go 100 percent,” Wolff said to Philly.com after practice yesterday.  “What Dr. Andrews said was, ‘Earl, I did microfracture surgery because your knee was rubbing bone to bone. I did a microfracture surgery, and my goal was to make sure it wasn’t touching bone to bone anymore.”

“So when I went out there, probably about a month, month and a half ago, basically he said, ‘You know Earl, basically what I tried to get done is done. So now you can push yourself…… So it wasn’t like I’m cleared to go 100 percent out there and practice 100 percent, no. It wasn’t one of those clears.”

There you have it from Wolff’s perspective.  He thinks he’s doing everything he can do to get back on the field.  He’s been cleared to practice and workout as hard as he can tolerate.

“There’s still pain when I do certain things,” Wolff said. “It’s nothing crazy. I’m still progressing. I don’t expect to come out here and just go all out and not feel any pain.”

“At the end of the day, my thing is all about being healthy, finally. Coming back and being 100 percent for the first time in a long time. Dr. Andrews said sometimes it takes six months, sometimes it takes eight months, you never know.”

The situation does look good for Wolff.  Kelly have been raving about the play of Walter Thurmond at the safety position and Wolff can’t even get on the practice field.

Earl Wolff will not make the 53 Man Roster…
There have been questions about his ability to play with Pain since his Rookie Season.. To be honest, He is not an NFL Starting Caliber Player
and another poor Draft Pick in the 2013 Draft …

Whats Ed Reynold’s and Jerome Couplin been up to so far..
Do either of these Players look like they can contribute at Safety..

That’s what he wants not to make the rosters, so he can go somewhere else and get paid. I think this is a big mistake.
