Sam Bradford And Eagles Agree To Play Out Final Year Of The Deal

MarkSanchez&SamBradford1It’s all on the line this year for the Eagles and their probable starting quarterback for the 2015 season, Sam Bradford.  Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that Bradford is going to play out the final year of his multi-year $86 million dollar rookie deal without agreeing to an extension with the Birds.  The quarterback, who has achieved virtually nothing during his five-year NFL career will earn $12.985 million dollars this year.

This is a mutually agreed upon decision because it wouldn’t make sense for either party to agree to an extension at this time.

The Eagles couldn’t justify signing Bradford, a quarterback who has suffered season-ending ACL tears in each of the last two years, to an expensive extension.  Could you imagine the reaction the Eagles would get if they ponied up a $20 or $30 million dollar signing bonus to Bradford?

At the same time, Bradford knows if he has a big year and then becomes a free agent, there will be huge offers from the Eagles and other teams on the table.

Both the Eagles and Bradford are rolling the dice and they’re each hoping that the former number one pick has a great year.  Again, if he has a great year, Chip Kelly and the Birds will have been validated that they made the right move in trading quarterback Nick Foles and their 2016 second round draft pick to the Rams for Bradford.

Everybody wins if he plays well.  The Eagles hope that Bradford and his agent, Tom Condon will remember who helped put them in that position if he has a big year.

On the other hand, if Bradford goes down again, his NFL career will likely end and Kelly will have to place his hopes on Mark Sanchez.  The Eagles head coach will face a great deal of criticism if that were to happen, not to mention if Foles plays well in St. Louis, Kelly will be lambasted for letting him go.

Neither team will admit to it, but you know Kelly and his staff will be monitoring what is happening in St. Louis, while Jeff Fisher and his crew will be monitoring what’s happening in Philadelphia.

This is a high stakes year for Kelly, Bradford and the Eagles, so you can believe the entire league will be watching closely.

In Foles defense how great of a year can you have playing Seattle, Arizona and SF twice a year. I mean Peyton even struggles vs that division.

There is little to no pressure on Rams Jeff Fisher,
Bradford had 5 Seasons to help turnaround the Rams and he failed to do so..
Rams went for a younger QB in Foles who led the Eagles to the Postseason in 2013 and costs them much less while gaining a extra 2nd Rd Pick in 2016

What happens if Bradford plays well but the Eagles still fail to make the Playoffs in 2015? Do you pay Bradford $17-$18-$20 Million a Season for this type of production… A part of a Franchise QB is making others around you better, does Sam Bradford shown this quality while in the NFL ?

hopefully more like Krap and Dalton and less like cutler– teams are going to paying QBs a little less guarantee than cutler got… his deal is crippling but i do agree– the journeyman route sucks!

I think Chip Kelly goes “All-In”next off-season and signs QB Russell Wilson away from the Seahawks..

I believe Russell Wilson wants back on the East Coast, Closer to his Family and his Business Dealings and will play out this Final Season with the Seahawks and then look to the Jets, Eagles Or Redskins as his Next Team next Off-Season…

Lmfao @ paulman. Any player any sport that’s a free agent that is being discussed here you can bet the house paulman says

He grew up in ________,__ I think he wants to be closer to home and will think he moves back…

And what business dealings does he have on the east coast he needs to tend to?

Agreed. They will tag him before they let him walk.

Nice dream, but he is not going anywhere. That being said, I would not mind seeing Kelly have him as his QB.

I believe with that defense they will let wilson walk…..he is no andrew luck…..if they sign him to a monster contract that will cripple their defense and they will end up with flacco…..wilson cant carry a team like elite qbs can…..thats not his game….with that being said I would give up a lot for him

In a poll of 35 coaches, personnel men and former front office executives, only 11 viewed Russell Wilson as a top-tier quarterback.
“Because I think he needs Marshawn Lynch and the defense to do what he has done,” one coordinator replied. Another offensive coach said the “bubble is going to burst” for Wilson if the team needs him to throw the ball on a frequent basis. “He is not a [first-tier QB],” a head coach said. “He cannot win the whole thing. Is that why they are not paying him? I think you could make an argument to put him down as a 3, but I would say he is a 2.” It’s possible the Seahawks feel the same way, as they’ve, to this point, balked at making Wilson the highest-paid player in the game like he wants to be. For what it’s worth, Wilson is a top-tier QB in our book.
