Was The Terrell Suggs Hit On Sam Bradford Planned?

SamBradford&TerrellSuggsTerrell Suggs got his chance and he took his shot at Sam Bradford’s knees after he handed the ball off to his running back DeMarco Murray.  Bradford got up after the hit and let Suggs know he didn’t appreciate it.

“I think that is what he was trying to do,” Bradford said. “I was a little upset, I’m not sure if I can repeat what I said to him but it’s a part of the game. I’m sure that is not the last time something like that is going to happen this year, but hopefully it doesn’t.”

Eagles Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters thinks Suggs planned on going after Bradford’s knees.

“He was trying to just take a cheap shot at the quarterback. I’m pretty sure he planned it,” Peters said according to Philly.com. “We practiced them all week; they knew he was running the read-option. Anytime you get a quarterback running the read-option, they can take a cheap shot.”

This is why it was shocking to me to see Bradford running the read option during Eagles practices.  It’s going to give defenders the chance to hit him and use the excuse that they thought he had the football.  On read-options, the quarterback puts the ball into the belly of the running back and either leaves it in there or takes it out depending on whether the defenders try tackle the running back or the quarterback.

Suggs knew Bradford wasn’t going to be carrying the ball, so he took a shot and played dumb.

“If you want to run the read-option with your starting quarterback that has had two knee surgeries, that’s on you,” Suggs said according to Philly.com. “I could have hit him harder that that. I eased up.”

“I don’t like it at all,” Peters said according to Philly, “and being a veteran player like himself, an all-pro, you’d think he had better sense than that to take a shot at a quarterback like that in the preseason.”

I’ve seen veteran players who didn’t want to play in a preseason game make plays like Suggs did.  The Pro Bowl linebacker had two or three penalties in his quarter of action, which doesn’t say much about his attitude to lay last night’s game.

Suggs is a dirty player, always has been.(Suh, Incognito, Merriweather, Steve Smith) Magic Johnson went after Isiah Thomas not Bill Laimbeer. That is how you play against dirty players. You don’t retaliate, you initiate dirty plays on Joe Flacco.

Eagles looked real good. Only a few errors.
Bradford missed Cooper for an easy TD although the ref bailed him out with a penalty. Sanchez missed Jeff Maehl for an easy TD bootlegging left ( 2 weeks in a row Sanchez choked bootlegging left for a TD) Nice to see Bradford and Murray. Murray looked good on that Bradford pass. Matthews and Murray both scored a rushing TD.

it was borderline dirty IMO. But Suggs is known for playing on the edge. I am glad Bradford took the hit and bounced back up. I am also happy he got belted a few plays later too. Now he should be ready to go.

Another impressive showing. They seem to have guys open all over the field. Bradford should put up great numbers this year. Murray and Matthews are both studs. I’de just use Sproles on third downs to break teams spirits, he looks amazing. Nelson A. is already the best receiver on the team in my opinion, he is just so damn sudden. The d back had him lined up to blast last night and he still made the guys completely whiff.

I have been waiting to see Kendrics and Alonzo play together since the trade. Those 2 flow to the ball and I think will just fills the gaps to clamp down the runs and go in on occasional blitzes. The other inside backers have been underwhelming and not enough support on the runs.

Yes it was dirty, cheap shot by Suggs…but where was the retaliation by our O-line??? C’mon this is football…you can just cry about the cheap shot after the game you are suppose to take care business during the game and send a message that your not going to tolerate cheap shots on the QB!!

Eagles look dam good so far. Sproles may be expandable now, will see.

Sproles is next expendable. Can Barner work out of the slot and in the passing game? Barner is a safety net for Murray and Matthews if/when they get nicked up this season. He can get an additional 10-15 carries a game in that scenario and keep Sproles from carrying the ball. It’s obvious Kelly wants to involve Sproles in the passing game if not feature him and he’s even more of a problem if he’s on the field with Matthews Murray forcing teams to play an extra defensive back and get punished in the run game or cover Sproles in the flat or slot with a linebacker or even better force a safety down to cover him then force man to man outside with Agholor/Matthews.

SPROLES GOES NOWHERE.

You always have to keep a eye towards the Future if your HC/GM Kelly
Barner cannot replace Sproles himself for he is not as experienced
But can Barner handle all the Return Duties from Sproles?
Can Huff & Agholor and Barner handle passing Routesour inthe Slot or backfield as Sproles Currently does…
I believe it all can be done, the key is you have hungry, young talented Players that have to figure a way to get on the field.. I like Sproles, but his production can be spread across younger Players in my opinion

I would say your right Lewdoggie..
I hope Kelly Keeps RB Barden, WR Bailey & TE Tomlinson as they can develop and be important Players for down the road… I would think if Released, they would get scooped up by other Teams…..

I keep WR Bailey and let Cooper & Austin Battle it out for Final WR Spot

TE Tomlinson must contribute on ST as Trey Burton does, if he can’t at a high level, then to the practice Squad for him..

Barden needs to make the Big Squad (53 Man Roster)

Who is Barden? Do you mean Barner? If you do, I agree, he will be on the 53 man roster this year. He would not last very long on the PS, no way to bury him.

Packers Starting Guard TJ Lang severe Concussion
Steelers Starting Center Maurice Pouncey – Ankle Injury
Giants Starting Safety Bennett Jackson – Torn ACL – Lost for Season
Giants Starting MLB John Beason – Sore/Injured Knee – MRI to be done
Giants Back-Up Safety Justin Currie fractured Ankle & Fibula and out for the Season
Panthers Starting/Rotational DE Frank Alexander – Torn Achilles – Out for the Season

Giants 2 biggest Weaknesses Defensively are Safety & ILB and now have Players with Injuries are in trouble

Barner cant make the 53 man roster its a wasted roster spot. Where would he play? Hes the 4th damn rb. Your paying Murray a lot of money, Matthews who needs touches not to mention Sproles on 3rd down. Barner isn’t returning punts that’s Sproles job. If Barner does that then what the hell does Sproles do?

Chip messed up with signing Murray to all that money. I would of signed just Ryan Matthews, kept Maclin to go along with Matthews and still drafted Aglohar. Then had a cheaper Barner, Mostetler or 5th round down hill runner to go along with Ryan Matthews and Sproles. I just believe just like at Oregon, Denver etc the system is a plug and play downhill runner. No need to break the bank on a top RB.IMO

If that hit would have been on Riley Cooper I would say it was legal, and not hard enough.

Chip is playing it right…The three headed running attack will be very effective, Murray will be good in this offense and Chip’s doing a good job not dogging him in training camp and pre-season! The receivers look good with Aglohar and Matthews…if you are forced to call it now…all of the moves look very, very good!
