Sam Bradford Struggles As The Drops Continue

SamBradford134Although the Eagles found a way to win their battle with the New York Jets, Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford continues to struggle.  Numerous times today, Bradford missed wide open receivers by either throwing the ball low or just missing the target.

He completed only 14 of 28 passes for 118 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.  A 50% completion rate is not winning football.  In fairness to Bradford, he continues to have passes dropped by his receivers, he’s got to play better.

The halfback wheel route was open all afternoon.  The Jets play a lot of man-to-man and that matches up the linebackers on the running backs.   Bradford connected with Ryan Mathews for a 23-yard touchdown.  He threw the football accurately to Mathews and Sproles two other times and they were unable to catch the football either time.  Those plays would have been big ones and might have each been touchdowns.

Even with the drops, Bradford’s got to be more consistent with his accuracy, which was supposed to be one of his strengths.  On a number of plays, he had great blocking and the receiver was wide open but he still missed him.

A number of times, Bradford seemed to make errant throws because he thought the pass rush was coming.  The Jets have given him a blitz look.

As was the case in the first and second games, Jordan Matthews led the Eagles in receptions with six catches for 49 yards. Zach Ertz caught two passes for 30 yards. Mathews caught two passes for 20 yards and Sproles caught four of Bradford’s throws for 19 yards.

The passing attack must get better, if the Eagles are going to have success down the road.

Bad analysis…receivers are not open…they were blanketed by Cromartie and Revis…several of the drops were passes that were on the money! The receivers are not getting separation with any consistency at all..
Bradford got the job done…and if his receivers start catching the ball instead of leading the league in drops…his numbers will look a lot better

Kool,

Are you watching the game? Bradford underthrew a wide open Agholor in the second quarter for what would have been a touchdown.

He overthrew Miles Austin in the end zone on third and 13. That should have been a touchdown.

On third down Austin was open over the middle and Bradford threw it behind him.

He missed guys all day.

are you guys blind? I know you are all in love with Foles and anyone else is extremely terrible…but every objective report on Bradford’s play includes a massive amount of dropped passes from receivers who cant catch a cold and that scares no one on defense. Fitzpatrick had a field day throwing the ball to an Marshall…a good receiver…

The receivers SUCK…

Bradford in playing in his third game in two years did enough to get the win…and his stats would be better if receivers stopped dropping the ball!!

You asked what receivers Bradford missed and I told you… If you don’t want to accept that he missed two wide open receivers for TD’s today alone then than just continue to be blind…

Go read Eliot Shorr-Parks article in NJ.com, he list the receivers Bradford missed if you don’t believe me…. Or just live with your head in the sand if you want.

1-2, with redskins next. No Game feels like a win moving forward, but great for win number 1. Great to see rowe, hicks…but inability to get agholor involved is troubling.

Passing game is average at best, Bradford pedestrian. ..

Agholor had 4 balls thrown his way today same with Austin, 4 balls. Cooper didn’t get pass thrown his way. I don’t think Marcus Smith made the field. He is so deep in the dog house.

I keep asking over and over again…

Who is Bradford supposed to pass the ball too?

Who is open…is Agholor, Cooper, Austin, or Huff been running open in the secondary?

Jeff, Agholor has to get himself involved by beating man on man coverage for a change…run accurate routes and catch the ball…he drops good passes!

Meanwhile…Rams fans watched ya boy Nick ‘Chuck it Deep Foles’ throw a backbreaking interception at 2:57 of the all important 4th Quarter!

Bradford no interceptions, no turnovers today against top rank defense=WIN
Foles dumb ass interception at crunch time of game=LOSS

I watched Bradford bounce passes off of the hands of receivers…yet keep his poise, manage the game, and get a win.

Once again..everyone is now seeing why we got rid of Foles and why the trade made sense…today provides a good frame of reference:

Bradford no interceptions, no turnovers today against top rank defense=WIN
Foles dumb ass interception at crunch time of game=LOSS

Yep…I’ma keep rolling…the wonderful irony…LMAO…Vick beats Foles!

Happy for a win. Especially against a very good Jests team. The D is looking much improved, if the secondary plays like it did today… And if we can generate a pass rush.. Should be good. On O.. Simply not enough out of Bradford yet. I supported the trade because clearly Foles was not the Future… But I’m not sold Bradford is either. I don’t see the upgrade I was promised… Im holding out hope but… Lots of open receivers he overthrew to. I guess the positive is that at least this Qb sees them.

“yet keep his poise, manage the game, and get a win.”

Keep his poise??

WTF are talking about??

Like it was some sort of game he had to gut out at the end or some shit?

Dude, Jets didn;t show up till the 3rd. S teams gifted Birds the lead and D kept talking the ball from the Jets.

With no pressure (either from the Jets D-line, or emotionally because they were up big early on the road) Breadford was able to….well…..still suck.

Bouncing passes into WRs feet…throwing right into defenders arms (1st pass), throwing 15 feet over anyone’s head OB and the big “Drop” from matthews was a pass he had to spin around on…had it been in front it would have been a td.

Bradford’s first passes…yrds in the air:

8, 2, sideways, 7, 3, 15 (20 miles over Austin’s head), 5, 2, 15 (bounced on turf), 2, 4, 10, 5, 10, 3….

Guy is a puss, and even when the game was gifted to him by the D and ST, against a disinterested Jets team who will be getting on a plane in a few hours, still managed a pathetic 50% for 4 yrds a pass.

Bradford is Bradford.

Bradford stinks.

Oh, and after they beat shit-show Wsh and collapsing NO I am sure you will be insufferable…..well….only when you are not jumping for joy over your true flame Vicky-Vick;s accomplishments….but that won’t change the fact that Bradford is still a POS pussy QB with no balls.

They’ll win despite that guy, not because of him.

The problem now is the eagles are in QB hell. They paid a huge price for a one year mediocre qb… He will ‘help’ them win enough games to keep them out of the top pick or two. This is the worst case scenario

koolbreeze

September 27, 2015 9:14 pm

Vinniedaloser…you got the wrong game and the wrong name for a pussy QB with no balls…your post would be accurate if you just slip Nick Foles name where your talking about throwing into defenders arms, bouncing passes into WR’s feet…and you missed throwing interceptions and leading the league in turnovers…and choking up!
You are blind…if you think Matthews big drop was because he had to ‘spin’ around…he spun around fool running before he caught the ball..the pass was on the money…Austin dropped a pass that hit him in the hands, Sproles dropped a perfectly thrown ball that would have been a touchdown, Agholor dropped passes…and for most of the game…the receivers were locked down by the Jets secondary with Revis.

Stop with the bullshit about the Jets not being emotionally up for the game

Bullshit…

Drop, drop, drop….the Eagles are among the league leaders in dropped passes. The receivers suck…yet Bradford threw enough accurate passes for us to get the win…and if the running game and Oline gets in a grove…the team will grow in confidence and Bradford will play even better.

Bradford is not Tom Brady…but we have clearly upgraded from Nick Foles

Just look how Foles ‘chucked it deep’ today…in the fourth quarter…right over his receiver into the waiting hands of the defender…

Bradford no interceptions, no turnovers today against top rank defense=WIN
Foles dumb ass interception at crunch time of game=LOSS

Good to see Hicks and Rowe play so well and Bair looks like a guy who wants some more PT as well. Jenkins and Thurmond have been solid all season long. The offense on this team however is still scary bad. Kool, you can’t actually believe the things you write about Bradford and I refuse to believe you do. It has to be just trying to get a rise out of people, or an unhealthy hatred for our former QB. No human being that has watched/played football with any regularity could truly watch Bradford’s tape so far this season and come away with any opinion other than below average, to horrible. He had less passing yards than Mathews had rushing yards today. That hasn’t been done in the NFL since 1960. Are receivers dropping some balls, yes, but they are likely shocked the pass reached them in the air. The o-line, for as maligned as it is, actually pass blocks pretty well. I’m hoping this is rust, or “gelling” or whatever, but this team cannot compete offensively at all. If you want to argue that Foles couldn’t do any better, so be it, but is this level of play worth the extra 12 million dollars (could have kept Maclin) and 2nd round pick. I’ll answer for you, NO.

Once again…even after a win against one of the best defenses in the NFL, the whiners moan and groan. The expectations are so unrealistic…Sam Bradford has not played in two years…he played very little in the preseason, he has no chemistry with Ertz and Agholor…and the receivers have dropped balls like crazy.
Bradford will get better as the season progresses and as his receivers start catching the ball!
Today, against one of the best defenses in the league….his main job was to protect the football against turnovers which is how the Jets derailed Andrew Luck…he did the job. Everyone knew that the Eagles would have to rely on the ground game a lot more to ease Bradford back into the flow of playing…the first two games the Oline and running game sucked complete…this game they stepped up rushed for over a hundred yards…Bradford will get better as the season moves along and he gets into a better rhythm with the receivers…and more important when they start holding on to the ball and getting open!

I am very happy that the Eagles got it done yesterday. The defense was solid for the second week in a row! However, majority of the passes Fitzpatrick completed was when the Eagles were playing soft coverage (zone) A big thing thus far with this defense, is making tackles after the catch. Every DB is doing their job in that regard. Thurmond and Carroll played excellent. Rowe was solid. Maxwell definitely played his best game of the season. Although, that has a lot to do with Davis. play calling….

Offensively, there were some dropped passes. But Bradford wasn’t 100% accurate. He played well, I dion’t think he struggled. I think the offensive as whole struggled a bit in the 2nd half, mainly do to the play calling. 24-0 lead at half, Chip really didn’t seem to keep the playbook open. There was a possession, where a passed was dropped that most likely would of led to a TD in the 2nd half. Other than that, the offense looked just “OK”. Still far from where they need to be.

From domo

PASSING OFFENSE: First, the positives: Sam Bradford didn’t throw an interception for the first time this season, had pretty good protection most of the day and threw a touchdown pass to Ryan Mathews. Now, the negatives: He averaged just 4.2 yards per attempt, completed just 50 percent of his passes, his receivers dropped at least three passes and Jordan Matthews was the only wideout to catch a pass.

GRADE: D-plus

Well fellow eagle fans after careful analysis of the game yesterday….we are not a terrible team but we are far from good. Its a win so the positives are the oline played good, our rookies hicks and rowe are coming along fast and hicks might keep his starting spot all season, sproles is our best weapon period, matthews was a beast yesterday but did not like the fumble, billy davis called a solid game producing multiple turnovers, did not like his conservative style before half to give TD up, but overall great job. On the negative side we gotta help bradford by catching the damn ball, bradford has gotta start hitting his receivers in better spots, but that was the best secondary in league so no turnovers is good, we gotta find a way to go down field, these receivers need confidence, a big play wiuld help them, and last we need better pash rush. Look all in all we have a lot of work to do, but im glad we suck now and by mid october we will be rolling hopefully.

A Win is a Win is a Win and after starting 0-2 , Any kind of W to Save the Season is what the Eagles needed….
The Reality is that No Wins are going to come easy or pretty for this 2015 Team, they simply are not built that way.. They are going to have to rely on smarts, conditioning, health, Winning the Turnover Battle, Field Position, Good Special Teams and a Opportunistic Defense and a Offense that will be a work in Progress all Season long..
There were a lot more Positives from Yesterday’s Games and Contributions from many Players and especially some young Players on Defense..
Now they need the Offense to step up which is just getting used to all the new parts along the OL, the Backfield and and at Receiver.. I am still not sure why the TE’s are not being more active in the Passing game ..
No onto the Redskins who have had 10 Days to sit around and stew about their poor performance versus the Giants last Thursday… They should get D-Jax back and be rested up for this NFC East Showdown…
There is a Huge Difference of getting back to even at 2-2 as opposed to dropping to 1-3 where the rest of the Season is an uphill battle with too many Teams to leap over…
The NFC East is Wide Open and the NFC Rival Games are that much more important, the easiest path to the NFC East Title is by Winning the NFC East Games

This Game #4 versus the Redskins is huge and the Eagles must approach it like Yesterday as a Do or Die..It’s Probably the Biggest Game of HC Chip Kelly’s Career … Ha …
A loss and going down 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the NFC Conference Play puts them right back to where they were last Week with 2 less games to play..
Its a Must Win in my Opinion…

When looking around the NFC, it truly is Wide-Open

The Saints, Lions, Bears are all 0-3 and probably are out of it and may be playing Younger Players by the Time the Eagles face them both …

The 49ers, TB Bucs, are 1-2 but are Trending down & Rebuilding…

The Eagles,Redskins,Giants,Rams are all 1-2 and still trying to
sort things out.. 2 will probably rise up from this group while 2 will remain inconsistent..

The Seahawks are 1-2 but have Kam Chancellor back and will be fine as long as QB R Wilson remains healthy

The Cowboys are 2-1 but Trending down with no Romo & Bryant for the next 8 Weeks and blew a 14 Point Lead at Home to the Falcons

The Vikings are 2-1 and Trending up as RB Adrian Petersen had his best Pro Day in 2 Seasons.. if AP gets rolling, the Vikings are a Playoff Team and will get better and better as the Season moves along

The Cardinals, Falcons & Panthers are all 3-0 and are looking good so far..
Though the Panthers on paper don’t look like they are serious contenders but they keep winning and play hard, physical Football and wear Teams down

The Packers are 2-0 and host the Chiefs tonight in an interesting match-up
and look to be in mid-season form out of the gate and should have little problems on making the Post-Season unless Rodgers gets Injured…

Bottom Line, there’s about 10-11 NFC Teams that I count in the Hunt for 6 Playoff Spots after Week #3

Lots of Football to be played..

It is a good thing they drafted Hicks. He’s getting thrown into the fire right away and playing great so far… Seems like a smart and humble kid too and probably be the Full Time Replacement for DeMeco Ryans by Seasons end or by next Year at the latest… Who knows what the Future Health Status of Kiko Alonso is going to be and who is under contract for 2016 Season as is Ryans and of course Kendricks just signed a 4 Year Extension so they should be set at ILB for the next couple of Seasons..
I think wehn Kendricks comes back it will be Kendricks and Ryans on the Early Downs and then Hicks replaces Ryans in Passing Downs and in obvious Passing Series (2 Minutes to Half/Game,etc,etc)

Regarding my App State Mountaineers, they moved up to Division 1 about 2 Years ago from the FBS Division and are now in the Sun-Belt Conference which plays pretty some good Football (Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Southern Alabama, Troy, UL-Monroe, UL-Lafayette, Arkansas State, Texas State,New Mexico State and Idaho)
App State has 20 of its 22 Starters Back from a Team that went 7-5 Last Season but won their final 6 Games.. Their QB (Tyler Lamb) was Freshman of the Year last Year and has 3-4 Returning WR’s and 2-3 really good RB’s..
They lost to Clemson 41-10 at their place a couple of weeks ago..
App State used to be in the Southern Conference when it played in the FBS Division and won the NCAA National Championship 3 Years in the Row from 2005 thru 2007 with some Great Teams , they’ve pumped a lot of $$ into their Facilities nad Stadium which Seats about 30,000 Fans and has 2 Upcoming Games on ESPN on Thursday’s Evening Games 10/22 vs Georgia Southern which may likely be for 1st Place and then 11/5 vs Arkansas State

There are 6-7 App State Players Currently in the NFL
(OL, WR & DB’s and Detroit’s Punter Sam Martin)
