Can Sam Bradford Eliminate The Interceptions? Chip Kelly Believes So

SamBradfordvsGiants1Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is staying behind starting quarterback Sam Bradford, despite the fact that Bradford is playing like a “Turnover Machine”  right now.

“Sam’s our quarterback,” Kelly said yesterday to nobody’s surprise.  “We have full confidence in Sam.”

Kelly has no choice but to stay with Bradford.  He can’t abandon him this early in the season because Kelly was the guy to traded away Pro Bowl quarterback Nick Foles and a second-round draft pick for Bradford.  When you give up that much for a quarterback who is making $13 million dollars or about $12 million dollars more than Foles was making, then you have no choice but to stay with him or you’re going to get roasted.

I know Mark Sanchez is over their on the bench. but right now Kelly has to stay behind Bradford.  In NFL terms, Chip Kelly is married to Sam Bradford.  When you make a big commitment to a quarterback by giving him a big contract or giving up a lot to acquire him, you are married to him.  That’s the situation now here in Philadelphia in 2015.

Who knows Bradford may be able to avoid continuing to throw interceptions at this alarming rate.   In only six games, he’s thrown nine interceptions.  It could be even higher because there have been passes where the defenders had good chances at catching the ball, but they were unable to come down with it.

Yesterday, we learned that Bradford ability to avoid interceptions is a major reason why Kelly acquired him.

“That’s one of the reasons we really liked him,” Kelly said. “I thought he was really good with the football before he got here.”

CHERRYHILL_DENTISTRYI hope Bradford eliminates the interceptions, but I’m not convinced that he will because the former Heisman Trophy winner was able to stay away from throwing interceptions in the past because he wouldn’t throw the ball downfield like he’s doing here in Philly.  Notice that most of his interceptions take place when he throws the ball downfield.  Too many times, his throws look like wounded ducks and have no zip on them.

If his throws have no zip on them in early October, will he be able to put zip on them in November and December when it’s much colder and the wind is blowing.  The Eagles season is in his hands.  The Birds defense is playing excellent football and they’re starting to run the football effectively.

At some point this season is Bradford continues to turn the ball over, Kelly may have to dial back his offense and start calling an ultra-conservative game, a running game-heavy attack, in order to put the game in the hands of his defense.  If you run the ball effectively and play great defense, you can win in the NFL, even if your quarterback is ineffective.  You essentially take the football out of his hands.

Sex Parties in Louisville –
Add Rick Pitino to the list of NCAA Championship Hall of Fame coaches who plead to be Naive Dingbats afterwards when their coaching staff get caught cheating.
Jim Calhoun Connecticut, Jim Boeheim Syracuse, Roy Williams North Carolina, Larry Brown SMU etc.
Espn should have a reward at the ESPYs for the dingbat college coach of the year category. Call it the; ” I didn’t know” award.

Sam I am ..just ain’t ..simply stated he threw the ball in a controlled environment dome ,and in the division vs the cards once a year as well. His legs are not under him in his throws ,and he’s never given any indications ,that he’s a hired gun for an arm.I stated after the Gmen game ,keep the two tight end system in place and let the offense with Murray ,Matthews and celek and Ertz dictate the smash mouth game plan to match the other side of the ball defensive persona.Nobody needs see Sam become Mr.50/50 …he’s already sitting on our bench ..I believe Vin stated , why ? When we resigned Sanchez ? He’s a proven Mr half glass full ..in terms of records ,owns and losses and interceptions ..What Sam is doing at the most inappropriate times ,in the red. Zone is a team killer …the fact that ,we’ve overcome these ,won’t last ..Chips and Andys faults. Are always trying to fit round hole players into square peg systems

So I’ve been thinking it over. Anyone here knows I can;t stand Sam….That being said, this entire team was just thrown together. It takes a team a good 8-10 weeks to gel. So I will give him until week 10 as in our 10th game to get to know the receivers more intimately. We love over reacting here. Also seeing how Rogers and Jones just went back into the comfort zone with each other is point. Because these athlestes train so hard it’s second nature. It’s gonna take time to break those old habits and know your team. I’m trying to be fair here.

That is a completely fair and legitimate point Xevious. In fact it was brought up often in the offseason by myself and others. You have at least 11 new starters (or at least guys in major roles) on this team….including QB, 2 OL, 1 WR and 2 “starting” RBs on O.

That’s ridiculous….the question is:

If a bunch of Gcobb posters were raising this alarm 4 months ago…stating there was no way all these new players would jell till half the season…

Then what does that say about mgmt/coaching who obviously thought this wasn’t an issue? That’s the team would be good to go right out of the blocks?

This was their “plan” and they didn’t sell it as “we’re doing this for 2016.”

They were doing this for “now”. Murray, Bradford, etc…that was all, “here comes the system”

Yet every average joe fan was like, “there’s no way this can gel” At least I was.

So what does that say about mgmt’s plan?

And will we be watching this all again next year with another new QB? (yes)

And if that new QB is a rookie won’t it take 2+ years? (yes)

And if Foles had been around wouldn’t he be much further ahead of the QB we have now having worked with Matthews and Ertz and others for 2 seasons? (yes)

If internally, the coaching staff knew this would take a while to put together (and they had to didn’t they? Didn’t they?) then:

A: Should have started 2 years ago with new QB.
B: Trading for FA to be QB makes no sense as he could bolt.

I just don’t see what the long term goal is here….I don’t think there is one….I just think we’re going to lurch from QB to QB to QB throughout Kelly’s tenure.

Well Vinnie you would think some people were still around from that Dream Team Debacle. That team came together at the end. This team has better personnel IMO. I think the QB though needs to get with it.

To your point, I have seen teams go all in year after year and fail. Because all in means you add too many new faces. Look at the Colts this year. All those new faces 3-3. We have both seen the Redskins do it year after year. To me adding a superstar to a team that almost did it is the way to go. One guy on each side of the ball to put a team over. Right now I love how the defense is playing. I only hope Mr glass knees can stop tossing redzone picks and hit open men. This team does have potential but it’s 85% up to #7. Sam Kool, Not Vick..Keep your pants on 🙂

Even more of an indictment for not picking healthier players and having them readied for ota.s and pre-season. .the depth of the squad has been stretched beyond a reasonable limitation..luckily they appear to have been fortunate with hicks..had he been a question; the lack of attention to what seemed an obvious need (o.line) might havetruly been punitive..it might be that chip believes so strongly of his offensive genius press clippings that he’s developing a new matrix..get a qb annually and don’t commit. Large cap dollars to that position. .this is really my best guess

One of my Concerns about Kelly when they Hired him is that alot of thesed Successful College Coach’s believe their Success is more about them (their Schemes, Preparation, Coaching Skills) rather then Talent for this is what they are used to every Year in the College Ranks where a 1/4 to a 1/3 of their Roster is Turned Over with Kids Graduating, entering the Pro’s Early, getting Injured or transferring out, etc, etc …
Having Stability along the OL, DB’s or WR’s or QB or anywhere else is just not what the College Game is about and its very difficult to even achieve as the NFL Level with the Salaries Cap issues, Coach/GM turnover, etc,etc..
A lot has to be built upon and sustained with having good Relationships between Coaching Staff and Players and but when you mix in Coach, Players and GM, now you throw a monkey wrench into the equation depending on Contract Status, Returning from Major Injury, etc,etc

That Theory was actually brought up in a Grantland article by Bill Barnwell right after Kelly was hired. (and no, I can’t find it).

He said then that Kelly was going to just roll through a bunch of $2-4 million dollar QBs and never commit $$ 100 million to a position he felt was interchangeable.

I didn’t believe that was a good option then, and I still don’t now. I think NFL Ds are too complex, and a team can’t just roll out a new QB every season (or every 6 weeks).

smh…lame ass, bitching, moaning and the same whiners…

Cant say I’m surprised!

Chip Kelly should pay no attention to the whines and cries about Bradford

The guy hasn’t played football in 2 years and he is merely showing the rust

Does he have to get rid of the turnovers-of course!

However, the team is in First Place coming off of a 20 point win and his play has contributed greatly to the wins the team has!

Bradford will improve as the season progress, as the running game gets better and as he develops a better feel for his receivers

Book it!

Problem is Sam has not done it at all…injuries aside..his level of play is worse than it was in St.Louis…and this is a QB friendly system. We saw Rust on Vick when he came back from two years of jail time…Vick played well after two games….Like I said…this Sam is who he is…no RUST factor involved…this is why the Rams decided to give up on him as an overall # 1 pick. O line is playing good now…running game has picked up…Sam continues to throw picks with NO PRESSURE on him..that is not rust…just bad QB play. The rust excuse is old…we are going into week 7…and the clock is ticking down. 9 TD’s 10 turnovers in 6 games. And accuracy has been a problem too.

And another thing. When Vinnie and his fellow girl scouts were spamming the board about the awesomeness of Kolb and Foles, the team had bonafide qbs with proven resumes on the team (McNabb and Vick) who were clearly better. No such alternative exist now. Sanchez and Bambi are at best a wash.

“the team had bonafide qbs with proven resumes on the team (McNabb and Vick)”

McNabb was a bonafide QB. But he was done by the time the Kolb debate began (2010).

Mike Vick was never a “bonafide” QB except in the mind of the meathead talking heads on tv.

If you suck at the “5 guys yelling at you teat” who are always salivating over “flashy” nobodies (or who the NFL has leaned on them to promote) then ya, I suppose you would actually believe Vick was “bonafide”. But if you actually made evaluations/decisions by yourself….then you would know:

….2009 was McNabb’s “last gasp rebound” season. Vick sucked from day 1, and the Eagles trade for Bradford was crippling.

Now that’s BS tsjohnson5…I’ll never be in Vinnie’s category at all

The bottom line is that for all of you who are riding Sam’s ass you dont have a legitimate option….your option was to keep lame ass Foles who in is playing like total crap in St Louis and is worse than Bradford.

The guy hasn’t played football in two years, he didnt play enough in the preseason because we wanted him healthy in the season…he’s making bad mistakes…he also threw for over 300 yards and 280 yards in the last two games….so he’s doing some things right.
Compare that to the guy he replaced who is now in St Louis…the Rams have better receivers than the Eagles, they have a all-world rookie running back that’s killing people…and Foles can barely throw for over 200 yards…he cant complete a pass down the field and this is with better weapons…and unlike Bradford…he has directly cost the Rams two games with late game dumb ass interceptions!

Chip Kelly saw it coming with Foles so he rolled the dice and took the best shot he could take!

I said repeatedly…Chip Kelly is rolling the dice and you have to roll the dice for a chance to get better. I think the gamble will pay off but if Bradford starts committing turnovers that costs us games (and none of his turnovers except the balls that bounced off of receivers hands has cost us any games at all) then we are in the exact same situation we were in last year with two sub par QB’s

Bradford has got to stop turning the ball over…I can’t defend repeated turnovers, but I’m sticking with Bradford…I supported the move…I’ll take the heat…but boy oh boy…if I am right…and we make the playoffs…and Bradford gets it together….

Like BigLion said…I’ma be on that ass!!!

haveablunt…the guy who got Vicks job due to injury is playing worse than Bradford..he cant complete a pass down the field…he absolutely sucks ass, interceptions, holding the ball, takings a bunch of sacks, cant hit open receivers….he is being bailed out by the Gurley and the defense…the Rams have all but abandoned the passing game because their QB sucks.
Foles may be on the bench down their soon…
Bradford will improve and his improvement has got to start real soon…the bottom line is that his turnovers which are way too high…make no mistakes about that…I cant defend turning the ball over…no way no how…
However, his turnovers are not costing us games…we have dominated the last two games mainly because of the defense…(which I’m not hearing any credit being given to Chip Kelly for ) but also because Bradford has led the offense and put points on the board!
Bradford is not playing scared…he is not intimidated…he completed passes after taking hits! His problem is timing and rust…I predict that he will be a lot better…starting tonight!

5th round draft pick steal –
Stefon Diggs Viking WR. Entered college as the #1 ranking WR went Maryland and disappeared. Looks like Maryland didn’t know how to use him properly because he just put up back to back 100 yard games.
a lot of 1st round draft picks underwhelming this year compared to last season.
