Chip Kelly’s Explanation For Ryan Mathews’ Lack Of Touches Is Completely Outrageous

ChipKelly5Once again, Chip Kelly treated Philadelphia Eagles’ fans to some woefully mediocre offensive football during his team’s latest loss to the Carolina Panthers.

His Majesty’s revolutionary offense dropped 16 points on the Carolina Panthers, seven of which came thanks to a 63-yard run by running back Ryan Mathews.

It was one of the few explosive plays that the Eagles managed on the night, but Kelly strangely did not involve Mathews in the offensive attack for the rest of the night.

Mathews, who has been used sparingly throughout the season, has been one of the Eagles’ best players through the first half of the season, and with the exception of Darren Sproles, has been one of the only offensive players that can be counted on to show up and perform week to week.

So naturally, Kelly was questioned about why he couldn’t find more playing time for one of the only players on his offense that seems to be capable of generating some big plays.

Kelly’s first move was to point the finger and running backs coach Duce Staley, throwing the former Eagle great under the bus during his press conference after the game. Kelly simply stated that Staley has complete control over the running back rotation, while the head coach apparently has no say in the matter whatsoever.

That excuse is one of the most outrageous things I’ve ever heard from a head coach.

Here we have Chip Kelly, Mr. Offense himself, the dictator of all things football in Philadelphia organization. A guy who kicked and screamed to wrestle power away from Howie Roseman in the off-season, that very same man now stands before the media and claims there are areas of the offense that he doesn’t have any control over? That’s completely asinine.

The offense is Chip’s pride and joy, and with all of his hand-picked players in place, its 100% his production. Even if he gave Staley the right to rotate the running backs as he sees fit, its his responsibility to intervene and put the team in the best position to win. If Ryan Mathews has the hot hand, and his sputtering offense needs a spark, Kelly’s got to override Staley and get Mathews on the field. For Chip to claim that such a decision is “out of his hands” is insulting.

I don’t like that Kelly stays hands-off with the defense, and defers completely to Billy Davis either. But at they very least, in that case I can understand why he chooses to run things that way. He’s not a defensive guy, and his philosophy is to let his defensive coordinator handle that aspect of the team, not unlike what many other coaches do.

But for him to be hands-off in any part of the team’s offense is completely unacceptable.

But we’re just scratching the surface of Kelly’s ridiculousness is this situation.

When Kelly was pressed again about Mathews’ touches during his Monday press conference, the struggling head coach revealed that Mathews had actually been dealing with a groin injury which really limited what he could do during the game.

Interesting that Kelly made no mention of an injury during his post game conference, or during his interview on 94.1 the next morning. Writers Jeff McLane and Ruben Frank have both since tweeted out that Mathews showed no signs of having any injury, and was not receiving any treatment. Supposedly Mathews suffered the injury before the touchdown run, and if he was battling some kind of hampering groin injury by that time, it sure didn’t show as he blew by the Carolina defenders.

One of two things are going on here. Either Kelly straight up lied during his Monday conference in a piss-poor attempt to cover his ass, or Kelly was unaware of Mathews’ injury during the game. Neither is a particularly good scenario.

If Kelly was unaware that Mathews was hurt during the game, that’s major indictment of Kelly’s gameday management. How could the head coach be unaware that one of his top players was limited by an injury? Why would there be no communication about the issue between Staley and Kelly?

None of the pictures painted by this scenario are very good. But one thing is for sure: Chip Kelly has been doing a terrible for this team as both a head coach and general manager. The team’s offense has taken noticeable steps back, the team has no quarterback, no wide receivers, a shaky offensive line, and a ton of salary cap room unnecessarily dumped into multiple veteran running backs.

Kelly is so full of shit that his nickname growing up was a
“Tub Full of Shit” …

Matthews isn’t injured, the reality is if Kelly Benches RB Demarco Murray for Ryan Matthews, Murray will hit the Fan which Kelly doesn’t want the Public to See or Read about as it will come across as a lack of control and leadership in the Locker Room which is already happening with the Bradford for Foles debacle behind the scenes.. RB D Murray has this 2015 Held Hostage which is why the Cowboys smartly let him walk in Free-Agency..
Chip Kelly duped again…

PMAN – I agree Kelly is most definitely full of shit…But I call your comment full of shit also!
You really think the locker room is upset about the Bradford for Foles deal? Greater than the fact that Kelly let pro bowl linemen go, pro bowl WR’s and pro bowl running backs go…who have also had success in his system also….C’mon…

Denny , thanks for that info, on kelly throwing deuce under the bus, not being hurt etc, as a good, not brilliant, but somewhat knowledgeable fan , I had so much belief in Kelly , and my respect for him is down to 0 . All I can do is read what a writer who works for G. cobb has to say If most, of this true , how can you as a writer have respect for this guy. ?This is unbelievable stuff you put out there . Does kelly acknowledge you are alive or does just ignore you? Thanks again .

Just as everything went right last weekend, about everything went against the Eagles in Week 7
Eagles lose ground in NFC East as both the NY Giants & Redskins both Win
Eagles lose ground with competing Teams for the Playoffs as the
Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings who all more Wins and better NFC Conference Records than the Eagles
The Eagles must win their final 6 NFC Games versus the Cowboys, Giants, Redskins, TB Bucs, Lions & Arizona Cardinals to have a shot for the Playoffs to finish at 8-4 in NFC Conference Games and with at least 9 Wins overall.. Any additional losses to an NFC Oppenent will end their chances for the Post-Season in 2015

Chip and this 2015 Eagles Season are basically “married” to both Sam Bradford & DeMarco Murray.. For Chip to Bench either or both Players would be an indictment on his Off-Season Plans and Roster Management and make him even more of a laughing stock around the NFL than he already has become in terms of being a NFL GM..
The Coach in him would probably love to make the switch to Sanchez and Rayn Matthews, but the Ego and GM in him knows that he can’t and has to stick with the “plan” that he worked so hard on all off-season which is another crock of shit as D Murray was a reactionary move since Frank Gore told the Eagles to stick it..

But lets look at the Frank Gore pursuit.
That’s the guy Kelly was pursuing first right?

And here again Kelly completely ignored NFL historical truths.

Frank Gore 32 years old with 2500 carries and 11,000 yrds.

Does anyone think that guy would be kicking ass on the Eagles? No chance. He was a terrible choice for the Eagles (and I don’t think Indy is all that happy right now either!)

So Kelly went from Old man with no tread left, to getting all hot and bothered for a 500 touch RB with jello legs.

Right now Kelly “The GM” is looking like he is completely out of his league.

Frank Gore is probably the only Reason the Indy Colts have 3 Wins at All Vinny and has actually played pretty well considering the COlts have one of the worst OL in the entire NFL and a HC/OC that kees feeding into the Andrew Luck Stat line instead of trying to Win Games…
Frank Gore is a 2 Year Player with enough Tread left to help a Playoff Team get over the Hump.. Do I give him a long-term Deal, absolutely not
but for a 2 Year Contract, Frank Gore is still a good and tough Football Player
who would have been a better fit for the Eagles than DeMarco Murray

Com’on man. He is not. He’s had 2 “decent” games against the all mighty Titans and texans, going 14 for 86 and 2 in one and 22 for 98 and one in the other.

Otherwise he’s an underwhelming 8 for 31, 15 for 57, 17 for 53, 13 for 78 and 9 for 43.

I could not understand the pursuit of Gore in the first place. It made no sense to me to add an old RB who, in my mind, has nowhere to go but down.

Then for the Eagles to seemingly panic when they “lost” this guy and overpay for a 500 carry back was ridiculous.

This whole offseason was a “WIN NOW!” mistake.

A strange Paradox don’t you think? Persuing and then acquiring a bunch of “win now” FA players like Gore (who ohad 1 or 2 years left max), Bradford (FA to be) and Murray (rushing leader)….but then knowing they could not “win now!” because it would take too long for them all to gel.

That’s just dumb.

Kelly’s Entire Off-Season Plan from Free-Agency to Draft to OTA’s has been a failure… I stated a Step Back for the Eagles for 2015 and everyone stated that I was a Non-Fan…I still love my Eagles but being a Fan does not mean I have to Like or Agree with the Decisions that Chip Kelly has made and especially when I know that a few of them were just plain stupid in trying to improve this Team..

Last time I checked, the coaches do NOT play the damn game. Geez man. Chip has done nothing but put his players into position to win ball games. PLayers going out and dropping passes into the defenders hands, missing field goals and extra points in critical conditions, dropped passes, which is the biggest issue with this team not winning games against the Skins and Panthers. Chip can only do so much. And the media and some dumbass fans want to say shit like “The coach is calling out the players” when he hasnt. He has simply stated that he has the right players, “but we need to ”execute” and the man is right. Josh Huff, Jordan Matthews, and Darren Sproles all dropped straight up Gimmes, along with Ertz and Miles Austin with two more crucial drops. These are passes that these professional athletes catch 9 times out of 10, and there letting them drop right out of the bread basket

CT..At the same time Chip is ultimately responsible as he is the GM who selected “his players” who are not performing. Chip wanted “his guys” that would buy in. Looking at the receivers, Matthews had a well documented history of dropping passes at Vanderbilt, but he thought it wise to draft him. Josh Huff is more of a utility knife with so so hands who he brought in to replace what Desean brought to the field as far as playmaking, that has not come close to happening. So, at the end of the day, Chip is responsible for the talent level, performance of the players, and team. He bought his groceries and cooked the meal, and the meal does not taste to good..it is average at best. For the record, The Patriots receivers are dropping passes very close to the same rate as the Eagles receivers are. Drops are a part of the game that every QB, coach and team has to deal with.

All this talk about the drops of the Patriots and Packers is ridiculous. Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady are the two unquestioned best qbs in the damn league. Aaron Rodgers might be the best qb I’ve seen play. He’s the only guy in history to have a 100 qb rating in the playoffs. Tom Brady is self explanatory. Bradford was supposed to come here to take advantage of superior weaponry. Instead most of the superior weaponry is no longer here.

No qb is going to overcome drops in high leverage situations! Brady’s receivers are dropping passes on 1st down or something. There’s no way they’d be winning consistently if the drops where coming on third down, or goal-to-go situations like this team has. Look at Huff’s drop. Third and goal to go. You drop that, it’s a field goal. Mathews drops continually come in third down situations, and that continued in the Panthers game. Ertz and Austin dropped passes on 3rd and 4th down on the final drive. Exactly how are you going to overcome consecutive dropped passes on the games final drive? And I didn’t even count the throw to Matthews in the endzone where he couldn’t get his foot down even with all the room he had to do it. These receivers have failed to come through time and time again.

I’ll tell you right now, Rodgers and Brady’s receivers make plays when they need to. These receivers stay coming up short in huge situations.

Skayne, it’s not ridiculous, it’s reality. This is all on Chip, he stated 10-6 was not good enough and the players that were here could not get the Eagles any further than 10-6. His response was to draft and bring in FA who was supposed to not only buy in, but perform better in his scheme. Chip raised the bar, not the fans or the media. Now it appears Chip is lowering the bar, sorry, I will not buy what Chip is selling. This product is not good enough, and it is not better than what we saw in 2013 and 2014. This team had seven months to get itself together, you can’t keep saying we have to clean this up after seven months. The fact is we are now at the half way point of the season, perhaps the talent is simply not good enough, that is the reality I see as I turn on the tv or go to a game and witness a product that is inferior to the previous two years. I was never a in Chip we trust man, all of his moves has led to a 3-4 start, the highest number of turnovers from interceptions in the leagues, and poor end zone performance and 3rd down conversions. I am not interested in looking for excuses to justify what has happened, the Eagles are what their record says they are…mediocre. Chip brought these guys in and how this team performs is on him. Sam was supposed to have repetitive accuracy and not turn the ball over, well, Sam has turned the ball over, not all the picks are on him, but most are. I still maintain it’s something about Sam’s delivery that is a problem, Sproles never had issues with drops, all of a sudden the receivers who could catch the ball last year can’t this year..something is wrong.

What downright hypocrisy!

If lame ass Nick Foles was experiencing the same drops that Bradford has had to suffer through-Vinniedafool would be citing the stats

Sunday’s game the Eagles receivers dropped more passes than ANY NFL team in 6 seasons and more than any Eagles team in 9 seasons.

The picture in the Philly.com article and the “DN analytics’ are now acceptable-BS…we dont need the picture Vinniedafool…we saw the play from multiple angles…

Bradford threaded a perfect pass between two defenders and hit Huff right in his hands…NFL receivers catch that ball..

NFL receivers get their foot down when they catch touchdown passes.

Listen to Brian Westbrook who analyzed the game and has been critical of Bradford…he says that Sunday Bradford stepped up in the pocket…threw the ball with zip, was accurate>

Bradford…like I predicted BEFORE the game is getting better…he played better, he played consistent…he hit receivers in stride with accurate passes.

Bradford has not been the major factor in any of the Eagles losses…5 of his 10 interceptions are passes that bounced off of the receivers hands and into defenders hands! Has he played at a Pro Bowl level after not playing for two seasons…Hell NO…but he hasn’t cost the Eagles games like the QB we got rid of Foles…who has directly coughed 2 very winnable games for the Rams!

Let’s face it…No one said that Bradford was Tom Brady, but there is not a Quarterback in the league…including Tom Brady throws every pass accurately…sometimes your receivers have to make tough catches and plays for you. Giant receivers have done in often for Eli Manning…Dez Bryant does it often for Romo…Seattle’s receivers who are not that good have done it for Russell Wilson

If you hit a receiver in the hands with a ball he needs to catch it. Look at DJax during his time here…he never dropped more than 5 balls for a whole season…you throw it near him he’s catching the ball

The Eagles receivers dont get a lot of separation… they have to catch the damm ball!

Spot on Koolbreeze.

Lets not compare the drops that GB and NE have been experiencing compared to us. We have a QB who blew his knee out back 2 back, and GB and NE have the greatest QB’s to ever put on an NFL jersey. Brady and Rodgers can afford a drop here and there because they are who they are. Sam Bradford is not either of those guys from a accuracy standpoint, and most importantly he does not have the mental toughness right now.

Remember when Tom Brady blew his knee out? He came out the next season, and did not look like Brady. Did he look awful? No. But not anywhere as elite as he is today. If ONE knee injury can affect the GOAT, imagine what two can do to a young QB like Sam Bradford who does not have a Bill Bellichick. Sam Bradford had a new offensive cordinator every year in STL and multiple Head coaches.

Now he is in a new city, new team, new HC, and brand new system and new players who themselves are also adjusting. The bottom line is, Sam Bradford showed improvement in the pocket on Sunday night. He danced around, stepped up, and even scrambled for a few first downs. That shows heart and confidence growing in his surgically repaired knee. People wanna say “”No excuses, Bradford has had 7 weeks.” Its not excuses, this is the reality. Bradford is still young and does not have as much EXP as you want in a 5 year player. He has missed alot of time with alot of new coaches and bad pieces around him.

With Dallas coming up after the bye, Tampa at home, MIA at home, and Detroit in a Dome, we very well can be 7-4 or 6-5 after thanks giving. With everything this team has gone through, both of those records are above .500 and is something to shoot for and be proud of if achieved. I know its not elite records, but all that matters is winning the divison and getting to that postseason. 8-9 wins very well can do it.

This 2015 season will come down to decemeber football just like last year. The question is, will this new team be able to finish strong, after starting so slow? Because the last team was opposite. They started so strong only to end so badly. This 2015 Eagles team can be similar to that of the New York giants, or even the 2009 Eagles. If we somehow slip into the playoffs barely, we can be a scary team who gets hot at the right time and takes over by running the ball and playing very good defense.

Some people I think forget that Chip Kelly never played in the NFL, or even played in college for that matter. Chip never even coached in the NFL prior to his tenure in Philly even has an Assistant coach or anything along those lines. This is his 3rd year in the NFL for a guy who never even played. It took Bill Bellichick 25 years before he was the headcoach of NE. Look at Pete Carroll and his situation as well.. He had the oppurtunity to coach in the NFL, he failed miserably and left for college and then came back. Chip is still young and very new in this league. He has put together some ELITE drafts, compared to the shit Andy Reid ended up giving us. We must give him 4-5 years. We have invested to much in him for us to give up so quickly.

But hey, this is Philly for ya. We let these emotions get the best of us when the fact of the matter is Chip Kelly, and his personality is a perfect fit for this city and fanbase.

Who cares about Lesean McCoy or Desean.. Both players were expendable, and are not the reason why Philly is struggling. Even if Lesean and Desean were here, we are still struggling.

Trent Cole, Todd H, CoLT aNDERson, Nick Foles, Cary Williams, Evan Mathis were all expendable as well, and are doing jackshit on there new teams.

The one player that got away that hurt us was JMac. I believe this team is 5-2 or eve better with him on the field, because he would have done nothing but take the pressure off a young Jordan Matthews and Huff and that would have opened up more for the run game.

He left us for 1.5 million dollars, and now is playing for a team who is struggling to get 2 wins. Maclin let his pride get the best of him, instead of taking what he was worth which was 9.5 million. I just don’t get that decison. i KNOW coach Reid is in KC, but stay with the team that drafted you. Stay with the coach that gave Desean, Lesean, and yourself career years.

I wonder if Maclin could redo his decision, would he stay in Philly?

Did you grow up in Philly DesertEagle?
How did you end up at Bowling Green?
When Working In Indianapolis as the Midwest District Transportation Manager, I used to visit our Terminals in Perrysburg,Ohio & Newark,Ohio every Quarter to make keep up on things and to Coordinate Production, Safety and Company Information Meetings etc,etc
I bet some are surprised to know that there is a large Amish Community in Northwest Ohio and Northeast Indiana.. At least I was surprised when traveling thru those areas…

E0SB,
Bowling Green State University that Deserteagle Attended is in Bowling Green,Ohio and not Kentucky..
Geography Wise – Bowling Green, Ohio is off I-75 in Northwest Ohio about
40 Miles South of Toledo,Oh and 85 Miles South of Detroit

Bowling Green,Kentucky is in South-Central Kentucky off I-65 Close to the Tennessee Boarder and about 100 miles South of Louisville and 75 Miles North of Nashville

Rand Paul was actually Born in Pittsburgh,Pa and attended Duke Medical School and then relocated to Kentucky as his Wife is from nearby Russellville,KY.. Randy Paul (as he was known back then) met his Wife Kelly in 1988 while doing his Medical Residency in Atlanta,Ga and they got married in 1990 and settled to Bowling Green in 1993 after living in Durham,Nc (Home of Duke) for a little while until Rand Paul got a permanent Job as a Ophthalmologist in Bowling Green where he ended up running his own Practice with his Wife handling administrative and office duties..They have 3 Children as she is very Active with his Writings,Speeches, & Campaign and is a very attractive woman..
Probably too much information, but you did ask… Ha

You are a NFL athlete. PLaying for the ultimate fraternity on the planet. Was Maclin a millionaire before his contract? Prob not. But he had still made some decent money being a 1st round pick. He could have chose to win and build off what he was developing with our young receiving corp, making just under 10 million dollars a year, which is more than what 99.9 percent of the population make. He chose to take a little extra more, and for what? To lose? and have the Ultimate Check Down Charlie in Alex Smith throwing him the ball.. Now Jamal Charles is done for the year, and the Chiefs are still struggling to throw a TD to a WR. If Maclin had stayed in this system that gave him a career year, with weapons around him that are young, and talented he would be on his way to another 1000 yard season with 8 or more touchdowns and to top it off, hes a multi millionaire making just under 10 mill a year…

Maclin had never had a 1000 yard season before Chip. He got ONE, and was worth 11 mill a year? HAHAHAHHA.. Let a desperate team like KC who cant even complete a pass to a WR make that.. Maclin was just dumb enough to go for it and now he will pay for it.

You are silly or you are not a grown man responsible for a family. Either way the numbers are Maclin is guaranteed $22 million in KC, he is from Missouri. I don’t know exactly what his guarantee was with the eagles but it was probably in the $15-16 million range. My guess is homes/apartments are a lot cheaper, wage tax is less and he is guaranteed about $7 million more.
As for ‘ultimate check down’– i guess you’ve not watched Bradford’s career.
Maclin wasn’t being dumb or full of pride- an NFL player is a corporation unto himself, the only stock holders are him and his family and he does what is right for his stockholders. PERIOD!

Maclin is doing quite well for himself and family..
I stated numerous times last year that he would take any close deal in Free-Agency for a chance to move back to either his hometown of St Louis or neighboring Kansas City as he is very close to his Parents as was never really a “Philly Guy” … Yes he liked Philly,
but he likes being closer to home more and now for more $$$ which was a no-brainer….
You guys always bust my stones about putting too much emphasis on Players who want to Play closer to home, but the reality is, that after 4-5 Years at the NFL Level where a Player has made some $$$ to be comfortable, a lot of them like playing closer to home and especially the Players from the Deep South who are not very fond of the Big Cities, the Clamoring Media -24/7 and the Colder Crappy Weather of the Northeast or upper Mid-West..

Jeremy Maclin bet on himself 2 Years ago and played out his Deal with the Eagles and Won…Good For him, he worked his ass off and deserves the good fortune that has come his way…

“and have the Ultimate Check Down Charlie in Alex Smith throwing him the ball”

Sorry to let you in on a little secret, but Bradford’s career numbers tell us he’s more of a “check down charlie” than Alex Smith.

Yards/attempt?
Bradford 6.3 Smith 6.7

Adjusted yrds/attempt
Bradford 5.9 Smith 6.4

Yrds/completion
Bradford 10.7 Smith 11

Bradford also has a lower percentage of passes over 10 yrds even attempted.

Both guys have completely terrible “check down” numbers, but only one of them can be called “ultimate” and its not Smith.

Other Notable QB’s and Comments

11) Cody Kessler – USC (6-1 215lbs) Another Matt Barkley, Not an NFL Arm
Projects as 4th/5th ROunder

12) Nate Sudfeld – Indiana (6-6 240lbs) Size & Big Arm, a little gawky in his Mechanics… Similar to Nick Foles, Mike Glennon Type and raw talent to work with.. Better feet than you think for a Player his size Projects as a 5th Rounder

13) Kevin Hoagan – Stanford (6-4 225lbs) Smart,High Football IQ, Tough, Decent Arm and somewhat mobile… Reminds me a little like Andrew Dalton of the Bengals where he really doesn’t impress at first look, but knows how to Win.. Projects as a 5th Round Prospect

14) Jacoby Brissert – NC State (6-3 235lbs) Has lots of Natural Ability and great Mobility and a Strong Arm… Reading Defenses and being accurate are his biggest areas where he needs to improve as he only completes 58% of his Passes at the College Level which is not very good.. With Good Coaching, he could be a diamond in the rough but it will take some time
and Projects as a 6th Rounder

15) Trevone Boykin – (TCU 6-1 205lbs) Very mobile, but on the smaller side,
can he play under Center, see over the big OL in the NFL.. I am not very high on his NFL Prospects as a QB.. Possibly as a Scat Back/WR/Returnman as he has a lot of Talent and Skills..

Yes it is, but without good one, you can’t Win as a Franchise

What Franchises are best positioned to be competitive over the next 5 Years in the NFL and its all because of having young, good QB’s who are coming into their Primes..
Teams like the Packers,Seahawks,Dolphins,Panthers,Falcons,Giants, Ravens, Bengals, Colts and even the Raiders & VIkings..

QB’s like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Jay Cutler, Big Ben, Phil Rivers, Carson Palmer are all on the backend of their Careers with 1-2 Top Seasons left if any

Young QB’s like Bortles,Mariota,J Winston all should improve as their Teams will also

Teams like the Eagles, Buffalo, Cleveland,NY Jets,Texans Bears,Redskins,Saints,Chiefs, will likely struggle in the Future since they have no clear path of who their Future QB’s will be

The NFL is about winning. Revis left the Patriots for the Jets to make more money. I know the Jets are having a good season so far, but its only a matter of time before NE takes the crown in that division again, and goes further than NY. It has nothing to do with being a man or with a family. Millions of dollars, is millions of dollars, and nobody on this site even knows what that kind of money really is. All we can do is talk and debate about it.

Darrelle Revis had already made more than enough money to support his family, and take care of himself. He chose the money and Fitzpatrick, instead of the great Tom Brady and NE, the team that gives him the best chance in WIN. Maclin is no different. He could have chose to stay with the team that gave him a career year, and the best chance to win, but he chose to go to a team that is ass.

Dont give me that shit that “he did the best thing for him and his family” . He did the best thing for him cause he only wanted the extra cash. If Philly offered him 16 million guarenteed, thats more than enough money to buy the family a few pair of shoes. These men get overpaid to play the childrens game. He could have taken care of his family fine with that kind of money, and went on to win.

And are we really going to compare Alex Smiths numbers to Sam Bradfords? Wow.. What is it going to take to make people to realize Bradford had the worst supporting cast in the NFL in STL… If not the worst, top 3. Put ALEX Smith in STL with that team Sam had instead of that 49ERs team with that Defense and Harbraugh and lets see what happens. Alex Smith has never had luck so unlucky that he blew his knee out twice.

Once you Win like Revis did, then its all about the $$$..
If Pats lost last Year in the SUper Bowl like they should have, then Revis probably returns to the Patriots for another chance for a Championship
Its always different for Players who have already Won at the Highest Level..
On a side note, this was one of the issues with keeping the Phils Core Group together as long as they did for they collectively lost that fire to compete after they all got those big contracts and all that love from the Philly Fans/Media that they became complacent..

October 28, 2015 3:28 pm

Revis is over 30 years old.. He has already been overpaid his whole career. Whether is it was his first tenure with the jets, Tampa, NE, and now in 2015. It should be about leaving a legacy this point in your career and winning multiples. Not just getting one with NE, and then walking out on them. The Patriots saved his career from a legacy winning point. Stay with the greatest, not go to the Jets at the point in your career where he probably will not be playing elite in 2-3 years

And Alex Smith IS the Ultimate Check Down Charlie.. Period. Any educated NFL fan will not tell you anything different.. Alex Smith would be lynched if he played in Philly. Atleast Bradford throws touchdowns to WR every once in a while. We’ve actually seen him throw a few bombs for touchdowns this year, which is something that Alex Smith (with the same team now, and healthy knees) hasnt done is over 2 years

Maclin could had stayed in Philly, and help develope with the team and WR he was with last year. He could have won, gotten paid MILLIONS.. and Not lose with a coach who’s best days are long behind him.

Look. I get what you are trying to say…about Alex Smith being a check down machine. He is. I completely agree.

But…..

I am sorry to say…over his career Bradford has been right there with Smith – neck and neck….with, in areas like Y/A , AR/A and Y/C worse numbers than Smith.

Alex Smith was labeled a “check down Charlie” by the media and he IS. But sorry buddy, over his career Bradford has been worse.

As for “no one else….” will tell you different….ummmm……

Here’s Barnwell in 2014 on Bradford (with Rams):

“The problem lies with Bradford’s biggest weakness as a professional passer: the absence of his deep ball. Under Bradford’s leadership, the Rams have been a dink-and-dunk offense, throwing an endless stream of passes underneath while failing to take the top off of opposing defenses. Bradford simply doesn’t throw deep. This chart reflects the numbers, which note that just 9.5 percent of his pass attempts last year traveled 20 yards or more in the air; of the 39 quarterbacks who threw at least 200 passes last season, 33 threw deep more frequently than Bradford. And when Bradford did throw deep, he was terrible; his 38.9 QBR on deep passes was 33rd in the league.1

That’s not exactly a one-year fluke with Bradford, either. Just 9.9 percent of his professional passes have gone 20 yards or more in the air since he arrived in the league in 2010. Among regular starters over that time frame, only Alex Smith, Matt Schaub, and Matt Ryan (at a league-low 8.0 percent) have been less likely to air it out.

During his career, per ESPN Stats & Information, the average Bradford pass has traveled just 7.5 yards in the air. The only regular passer in that time making shorter throws is Alex Smith.”

“Bradford gets less out of each throw he makes than just about anybody in football; the only quarterback with 1,000 pass attempts with a worse yards-per-attempt index over the past four years is Christian Ponder. Only six players have been worse in that category since 1990, and the best player of the bunch is probably Kyle Boller. Bradford has averaged just 6.3 yards per attempt over his four-year career; the difference between his figure and the league average over that time frame during a typical full season (of 550 passes) is roughly about 522.5 yards, or 15 percent of Bradford’s output.”

Or How about Chase Stewart back in 2011:
“But Bradford’s completions record is misleading in a different way: it hides the fact that he was Captain Dink and Dunk. Bradford and Jimmy Claussen were the only two quarterbacks last season to average fewer than 10 yards per completion. We shouldn’t care about Bradford’s completions or completion percentage if he’s making lots of easy throws.”

“What about yards per attempt? Bradford ranked 55th of 70 quarterbacks since the merger in Yards per Attempt adjusted for era; without adjusting for era, he was still only 50th in plain old yards per attempt.”

Alex Smith, Christian Ponder, Kyle Boller, Sam Bradford. All the same guy.

Stop listening to the idiiots on tv. Look deeper, and trust your own eyes.

Sam Bradford (despite having a stronger arm than Smith – no question there) is Just as much of a din and dunk checkdown Charlie as Smith has been…..at least Smith has the excuse of not having an arm.

What’s Bradford’s excuse?

How am I contradictiing myself? Regardless where Maclin signed this offseason whether it was Philly, KC, Cleveland.. He was going to make millions and be well off. He will always be able to take care of his family from here on out, unless he is a complete dumbass (unlikely) His investments and business actions after football will only had to the amount of money he makes during his playing career. Will he be a coach one day? Who knows. The man should have stayed with the team that gave him the best chance to win, and pay him very reasonably with was 9.5 million a year. Stay in the system that your most comfortable with, and just spent the past 2 years learning ( one year maclin was sidelined with ACL). Come back in year 3, and dominate. Help develope a Jordan Matthews and Josh HUff.. Help take some slack off of them, and the running game and help make a Sam Bradfords job easier.

If Im Maclin im looking at the weapons on this Eagles offense along with myself and going, “okay we can be something here espcially if this defense improves in year 3”.

Instead he joined Chris Conley and Frank Hammond. Travis Kelce is a straight up baller, and your just not impressed with the Chiefs offennse comapred to the Eagles. Jeremy Maclin believed he could turn that around with is talents, but was predictably wrong. He is a good Wr, that would had made Philly a better football team for that correct price in 2015. Of course this is coming from a Philly fan, so u have to see where I am coming from in some way.

I believe with Maclin, the arm stregth of Bradford and deep ball would have been more frequent in games then what u are seeing today. Maclin may not have had Desean speed, but he was a veteran WR that could stretch the field with great speed. Foles was able take advantage of that with his arm str. Best believe opposing defenses would be playing us diffrrently with a Maclin on the field. I really believed Matthews would had really broken out as a solid 2 threat, along with Huff and Austin.

Its not like you question Sam bradfords arm str like you do with Alex Smith. He can sling that bitch. He has proven it this season. He has not been the main reason for the 4 losses.

Bradford ran for 2 first downs Sunday in Carolina – The Chipper has to stop babying Bradford ( last place in NFC East ) and force him to run which is what his offense calls for. That sense of urgency has to be displayed on the first snap in Dallas. Every inch matters especially in the first half.

Except “takes time” was not the plan.

If “takes time” was the plan then why spend the offseason perusing Frank Gore who (maybe) has a season or 2 left. (maybe)

If “takes time” was the plan, then why Bradford?? Why not draft a QB over the past 2 years, play him behind Foles and roll him out next season?

If “takes time” was the plan, why overspend on Maxwell? Why not use money to lock up your own young players (cox) and draft QBs?

And on and on.

Kelly didn’t go into “a “takes time” attitude….he blew it up with a “win now” plan.

FAIL

And now its going to be 8-8 or something like that and no QB for next year. Brilliant.

BTW – Eagles are 3-4 while leading the league in turnovers. What’s going to happen when the law of averages takes over and the Birds fall back to the pack there?

You think B-ford is going to suddenly morph into “good qb guy” 5.5 years into his career?

Granted we do have plenty of legit drops but more balls where the qb just put it in an awful spot. Sam stinks ya can’t win with the guy see reality

That’s the spirit CT on top of that the Eagles should easily be able to knock off the Packers,Cardinals, Patriots,Bengals, and Broncos. Hell who can beat the Eagles right now, they are just an unstoppable force right now that every team dreads going up against.

Funny Ryan Fitzpatrick took absolutely no time to dominate with Marshall… Hoyer no time to make nuk Hopkins a freak. Mccown making Benjamin look like a stud.

But yea our offense needs more time. July, August , September and October clearly not enough time. Exact same thing I’m scared Chip says in February when he gives this awful qb 80 mill

3rd and 6 with 3 minutes left darren Sproles drops a wide open pass that would have extended a philly drive and milked the clock..instead we punt and give the skins the ball back with time and they drive and win it all. If Darren makes that catch we win the game most likely. If Huff and Matthews dont drop passes in the endzone who knows what happens against carolina. Nevermind the sproles drop on third down in the redzone or the drop my ertz and miles austin. If we ‘execute’ those plays philly knocks off an undefeated team and has a extra division win under there belt. Sam bradford can only do so much. He did throw two nice bombs in that skins game btw

Every losing team can say if we did this if we did that if we executed…that is what separates the good teams from the bad. The Eagles have done nothing to indicate they can dominate. They have only scored 10 first quarter points this season and are not prepared to come out and play on the offensive side of the ball week in and week out. What have you seen to make you think they are going into Dallas and dominate? If they win it will simply be because Romo is not playing…but that is the Eagles..we beat bad teams and lose to good ones…hardly anything to get excited about.

Once at a Grateful Dead Show, I got to hang out with their Sound Board’s Box with Sound Engineer Dan Healy at a Concert in July of 1989 at the Deer Creek Music Center in Noblesville,Indiana (Outside Indianapolis)
A local Indy News Station took over my Box Seat to Film the Concert and do interviews and then gave me 4 Tickets for the next 2 Evenings Shows and moved us to other Seats but Dan Healy, who I had chatted with over the Years at Philly Spectrum Shows said to jump into the Soundboard area where he worked the Show at.. I actually suggested to Dan that he turn down Bob Weirs Vocal Mic a tad and up Bassist Phil Lesh Amp for a Better Balance Sound and he went with it…
…Good Times..

I did play for the Cherry Hill Rangers in the South Jersey Ball Hockey League where we Won the Championship in our 1st Season (1982 or 1983) … I was the 3rd Line Center and then was moved to Defense since we had about 3 Players who got hurt and was down to 3 Defenseman so I became the 4th Defense and played every other Shift.. It was awesome as we played in a 12-14 Team League and were predicted to finish Last since we were a new Team.. We went on to finish 3rd or 4th during the Regular Season and then just got on a roll during the Playoffs ..
We beat the South Philly Flames in Round #1 (3 Games to 2)
We Beat the Coastline Flyers in Round #2 (3 Games to 2)
Then We Beat Oaklyn Cougars in the Semi’s who were the #1 Seed (4 Games to 3)
and then We Beat the West Deptford Warriors for the Championship
(4 Games to 1)

We were on TV, Free Drinks/Food at the Coastline in Cherry Hill
with Hockey Chicks/Groupies…. Fun Times had by all.. …
I am not sure what happened my Rangers Hockey Jersey but I was #11

paul you are my age- do you remember when the area woke up to hockey after the flyers won the cup? all us guys of our age were 9-12 years old, all the other teams sucked and we begged to play street hockey- first year i did we couldn’t get gear, we would take an ax to the woods, cut tree limbs shaped like an “L” to use, stuff a spray paint cap with paper and wrap in duck tape for a puck and then if you remember a company came along for gear….. MYLEC.

those orange Mylec balls with asphalt stains broke many a window and put dents in many cars. I’ve seen Kids now playing on roller blades and they look like star wars storm troopers with equipment they us now.

Mylec was a God-Send for all the PLastic Pads, Sticks were affordable so if you broke a Stick, no big deal for you can get another one for $5
The White Shin Guards…
That Orange Ball would get hard as a Rock when it got cold so we used to use a “Blue” Mylec Ball which would stay softer…
We played at the Jay Chevorlet Parking Lot as they were costructing the Dealership.. Grab some 2 x 4’s to make boards..
I remember playing on Roller Skates on teh Street and using Car Doors to bank passes off… Checking guys into Cars.. Its was Awesome..
It was hard and expensive to Play Ice Hockey though I lived in walking distance to the “Colisuem” in Voorhees but you could only get Rink Time late on Friday and Sat Nights which were used for older Kids & Adults
Most of my friends didn’t have the Ice Hockey Equipment to play so we all took to playing Street Hockey and just loved it… We played year around even in the Summer.. We would Shovel Snow off the Echelon Mall Parking Lot to Play…..

By the time my younger Brothers got to High School Years, a couple of “Dek Hockey” rinks were built where they used to Play…. Marlton or Medford or Berlin Area I believe …
We used to play in Rinks in Bellmawr, Woodlynne, West Depfort, Oaklyn,
& Cherry Hill and Delran …

Has anyone noticed the high number of ‘dysfunctional’ football teams this year? the fights between players, players leaving the team for unspecified reasons, the talking about /blaming team mates etc? It seems excessive this year. All kinds of drama, even outsiders or ex players throwing former coaches under the bus etc… maybe its just that everything gets reported on but reading PFT is like reading TMZ

Its just a sign of the Times everywhere HAC…
More Young People just have a less overall Lack of Respect and Tolerance for Each Other, and especially to People of Authority like Coach’s, Refs, Teaachers, Bosses, Teammates is just appalling anymore..

Hell we saw 2 High School Kids take out a Ref earlier this Season down in Texas… Greg Hardy Pushing and Distracting a Special Teams Coach that he’s not even involved with… Teachers getting slammed to the Floor for taking a Disrputive Kids Cell Phone away, A Resource Office getting Fired for trying to remove a smart-mouth Student who refused to leave a Classroom…
We have a Presidential Election and a Party whose Room full of Candidates
are Angry, Stir up Racism,Fear, Hatred on about every chance they get instead of promoting anything Positive….

Much of our Country is heading down the Tubes and its harder and harder to stay engaged in the Process when its filled with Garbage…
Our kids and future grandkids do not have a better place to Live and Grow as We Did which is a terrible thing and probably the first time that you can honestly say this about Living in America

True Paul. I still do some consulting in schools after a 30 year career and it is not good (and I am in mostly ‘good’ schools). Anyway I saw a group of athletes acting like fools in the cafeteria, I asked why doesn’t the coach discipline them…answer, ‘the bosses want to keep athletics separate’….in my day as a player or coach there behavior would have resulted I sprints for the team, or better yet the rest of the team does sprints while the dickheads watched.
I really don’t like what we’ve become
