Where Is The Excitement For The Dallas Game?

“Dallas Week,” typically a day after day rant of every reason Eagle fans despise the Cowboys.  That buildup for the division rival is missing something as Sunday nears.

The Matt Cassel led Dallas Cowboys “should” be a game that Eagle fans view as a must win.  It’s an opportunity to avenge the embarrassing performance week two at Lincoln Financial Field.  Even without Tony Romo, there are plenty of Cowboy players to hate in Dez Bryant and Greg Hardy.  That’s typically all that is needed to fire up the Eagle fan base, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

What could possibly cause Eagle fans to feel the way they are feeling?  I’m not convinced it has anything to do with the Cowboys, but rather the status of the Eagles. The NFL season is far from over, but the excitement for the Eagles has been subdued in part due to how the team has looked during their first seven games.

It’s possible that the fans have accepted that the team is average.

They are both passionate and knowledgeable. They understand the NFC East can be won with eight or nine wins.   There is even a punchers chance to win a wildcard game, only to be outmatched by the following weeks opponent.

It’s still the Dallas Cowboys and Sunday Night football with the entire world watching.  A win is still a win, and a win always feels best when it’s against America’s team.

The Eagles are a boring team with a HC who states that Dallas week is just another game. When Chip came to town he put on the façade of embracing and understanding the values of Eagles fans…going to the wing bowl and addressing the Philly faithful saying all the right things. Fast forward a year, he begins trading away drafted play makers for players we really do not know or have a connection with and keeps a guy who is sub average (Cooper). The team is average at best, the QB is still trying to figure things out and has been less than average and a turnover machine check down Charlie. The offense has only scored 10 first quarter points so far this season (pathetic). Dallas beat the Eagles last we played them, since then they have gotten more of their talent back, we have lost some. I stated it after the redskins loss, people are just not believing in this team, and with the way they have performed, can you blame them? Chip Kelly…meh….has sucked the vitality from this fan base with his boring play calling and boring talent.

There are two different issues here.

Firstly, As I said earlier this week, the Eagles have a chance to destroy the Cowboys tonight. Wipe them out for a couple years. New coaches, quarterback searches, all the while with the Drz/Hardy/Jones trio soap-operaing the team every week during the collapse.

A big Eagles win and that team will tear itself apart on the sidelines on national TV.

I am excited about that prospect. That prospect could be epic.

But as for the Eagles team itself?

Look at every single picture of our QB on every single media site/newspaper over the past 2 months and his head is down and his shoulders are slumped, and ask where has the excitement gone? That guy is about as excitable as Eeyore.

Add in that our “best” offseason pickup was a freekin’ Cowboy.

I mean seriously. What is to get excited about? The team is 3-4. No one believes they can compete with the GBs or NEs of the world.

No one is excited about the product Kelly has assembled (at least on the offensive side of the ball. And that isn’t going to change as long as old Slumpy is behind centre tossing inaccurate passes all over the field and handing off to a jelly legged ex-Cowboy.

Know what’s funnier? He’s still better than the slop we trot out every week. But go ahead and look silly like so many in our fanbase and worry about another ex player as if it exonerates our piss poor play and reality. Here’s a novel idea. how about we worry about getting just respectable production out of our qb, wrs, and hc before we worry about DJax. Beating the cowgirls would be a nice start since that worked out so well the first time….smdh

The only advantage the Cowboys have is their FG Kicker Dan Bailey
And their Pass-Rush
If Bradford protects the Ball, they Win
If he Turns the Ball over, they Lose..

Carr, in his second season, has 18tds and 4 picks. 2nd season. That’s absurd.

BTW – he recovered from that Int to throw a perfect pass to Carr to tie the game on the road in Pitt.

He was just sitting there as the Eagles selected Marcus Smith. Eagles Brass had to know at that point they were thinking of upgrading the QB position.

I am all over Mariotta. I made it very clear I thought he was going to be the best QB selected in the last draft. Seems like a very grounded, humble, smart kid.

I wanted Eagles to get him, especially after they had acquired Slumpy. Last thing I wanted was a season with Slumpy shoulder pads running the show (and giving up a 2nd for that privelege).

There are a few good looking QBs out there right now: I don;t like to judge QBs till at least 16 starts….better after 32. But who is looking good?

1 – Carr. Made a mistake its 19 -4, not 18. Guy seems to have that moxie. Still early, but man, I do not like that there is more hope/excitement in Oakland than Philly.

2 – Bortles: I think I am higher on him than others. right now he’s got a little Cutler in him (and by that I don;t mean the demeanor – more that he’s got a bit of “pad the stats when losing” to him) But there is still potential. I think that franchise is slowly turning around.

3 – Mariotta. Wayyyyy to early. But I think there’s something to that kid.

4 – Winston – Wayyyyy to early. But I am worried about the completion %

5 – Tyrod Taylor – I have no idea. Looks good, but I think he’s too small for his style of play. Going to get killed at 6′ 1″ 215. Can;t run around like he does at that size.

This game cements it – the Eagles get nothing in the Foles for Bradford tread….

If Bradford plays more than 50 percent of his team’s snaps this year, the Rams would owe Philadelphia nothing. If he played less than 50 percent, the Rams would owe a fourth-round choice and if he didn’t play at all, it would be a third-round pick…..

Too much doom and gloom around here, as if the Birds were 1-6, instead of 3-4 in an imploding division.

Too many sleeping on how good Bradford played in that Carolina game. He played tough with constant pressure in his face, and made clutch throws repeatedly. Which is why Pro Football Focus had him rated as the 2nd highest Eagle for the game, and also wrote an article saying you couldn’t blame him. But I doubt that will convince some of the skeptics here.

The defense is legit. Best since JJ was DC. The STs are still good, though Sturgis is a question mark.

Being the best team at this point in the season means nothing. Much better to be playing well at the end of the year. The Giants have 2 Super Bowl wins in seasons where they were totally mediocre during the season. Just get in, and worry about who’s supposedly good when you get there.

All we need is these damn receivers to improve to average and for Kelly to start giving the ball more to Ryan Mathews.

I’m not happy with the way the season has gone, but to act like there is nothing to play for because we haven’t looked like we could win the SB up to this point is ridiculous.

Good thing the SB is in February.

As far as the NFC Goes

Giants Win and are 5-4 , Redskins Lose and fall to 3-5

Vikings Win and are 6-2, Packers Lose and fall to 6-2

Panthers Win and go 8-0, Falcons lose and fall to 6-3 and are fading
Saints Lose and Fall to 4-5

Cardinals on Bye and are 6-2 ,Seahawks on Bye at 4-4 and Rams Lose and
Fall to 4-4

A lot went the Eagles way around the NFC Conference today and a W by the Eaglesto get to 4-4 would be a huge step in making a run to the Playoffs
A Loss tonight against the undermanned Cowboys. would be a huge lost opportunity and would not only hurt the Eagles chances, but would still give life to the Cowboys..
A Win gives the Eagles hope and keeps the playing meaningful games and knocks the Cowboys to 2-6 which basically Ends their Season
