Ironic Quote From Chip Kelly In 2013

ChipKelly8Chip Kelly kicked and screamed for full control over personnel decisions at the end of last season, and was awarded them by owner Jeffrey Lurie.

However, Kelly was singing a much different tune at the beginning of his tenure with the Eagles, one that is much different from what he came to today.

My colleague Tim Kelly, senior editor of Section215.com , did a little digging into Chip’s history with the team and found a tremendously ironic quote from one of Kelly’s first news conferences with the Eagles.

“My role right now is clearly defining what we want. What is a cornerback, what are we looking for? What’s the height, what’s the weight, what’s the speed, what’s the makeup of each individual position here? And then, in collaboration with everybody (we need to make these decisions). Not one person can do it all. I’ve heard questions about whether I want control over this or control over that–that’s never been and issue and never is an issue for me. I’m a football coach. I’m not a general manager, I’m not a salary cap guy–I coach football. I need people that can go out there and say ‘hey, this is what you want? These are the people.’ And it’s going to be a collaboration. We’re all going to be on the same page. I’ve got no delusion of saying that I want all these different titles. I just want to coach football.”

The full article can be found here, its a great piece that I encourage everyone to check out.

These words of Chip’s are very damning considering what has gone on with the team this year. You heard it from the horse himself! Chip said he’s not a general manager, he’s not a salary cap guy, he’s just a coach.

It’s more evidence that Chip bit off much more than he could chew last off-season. With his lack of experience in the NFL, he had a poor feel for the league and how transactions work, as reflected by many of the bizarre trades and baffling signings he made over the winter and spring before the season.

Chip stated very plainly that not one person can do it all. And those words have been proven true by the disgraceful results of the team in 2015. If Chip does manage to survive the season, the Eagles need to seriously rethink the idea of him having both roles.

Good Research Denny but I don’t believe any Fan or Follower of Chip Kelly isn’t going to believe for a minute that his ultimate goal was to have “total control” of every aspect of running a Football Organization
You have to remember that Chip Kelly idolizes what Bill Belicheck has done and does do on a Yearly basis which Coach the TEam, Formulate the Off-Season Plan for Free-Agency, Drafting & Salary Cap Management ..
Chip Kelly is trying to get to that level like Belicheck where he’s a master he entire scope of running anOrganization
Also note that it took Belicheck a good 5-7 Seasons of trial & error before he got good consistent results…
Chip Kelly is trying to emulate and build the Eagles like Belicheck has done with the Patriots with the huge difference being that Belicheck has been around the NFL his entire Coaching Career while Chip had the College Game down buts it’s an entirely different level when dealing with Professionals and livliehoods and the big $$$, Egos & Personalities of the NFL as opposed to running a College Program.. Especially at Oregon where the tradition, expectations and pressure are not anywhere in scope of big time Programs or the NFL where the Fans,Media have a life of their own.. Oregon was happy with the high scoring games and colorful uniforms and he could go 8-4 and to a 2nd Tier Bowl Game and never have lost his Job or Popularity ..

When you go back to his Quote of 2013 shortly after he was Hired with a Front Office already I place and not an NFL Game under his belt, what would you expect any new first time NFL Coach say? Probably very similar the lines of what Kelly actually stated above, so no real news if you ask me…
Just my .02 Cents worth and bringing it up when he obviously has full control doesn’t change the dynamic or the root of the problem which is If Chip Kelly is qualified and NFL savvy enough to to wear all hats and the answer is no..
Besides Belichek, Name me 1 other Coach who fought for and got total control and then remained Succesful? Bill Parcells, Mike HolmgremHolmgrem, Mike Shanahan, George Seifert all became disasters when having total authority..

Here is maybe a more recent and better example of GM Kelly’s acumen as a Talent Evaluator & Roster Manager
Today the Eagles placed CB Nolan Carroll On Season-Ending IR List and then went out and signed Jaylen Watkins from the Buffalo Bills Practice Squad
Now I have nothing personal against Jaylen Watkins, but hasn’t he proven in his 2 + Seasons in Philly that he could make the active Roster and actually play at the NFL Level..
Is Chip Kelly’s/Ed Marynowitz list of Players only relegated to former Olayers who already failed to make the Team and Contribute..
There has to be 30-40 DB’s on Practice Squads or out on the streets
And the best Kelly/Marynowitz can do is a re-tread?
I am not impressed with Chip Kelly’s Roster Management 1 bit which I have stated for 3 Years now.. He has no clue or care of what is going on around the NFL and other Teams Players, Practice Squads, etc. etc

I pray Bill Cowher comes out of retirement to come coach this team one day. He is a blue collar coach that would be perfect for this city. Rebuild the oline into a juggernaut, and build around the defense and run game. Straight up old school smash mouth football in Philly.

Checking Out the 2016 Salary Cap Situation for the Eagles

1) They Currently have Approx $127 Million in Committed Contracts & $2 Million in Dead $$$
2) They Currently Approx $21 Million in Cap Space
3) The Top 16 Players Under Contracr for 2016 Account for 76% of their Total Team Salary

Top 16 Players in Salary Order are
B Maxwell, J Peters,D Murray,F Cox,C Barwin,M Jenkins, L Johnson, M Sanchez, R Cooper, J Kelce, B Celek, B Graham, M Kendricks, D Sproles,
D Ryans & R Matthews

When looking deeper at the Cap Hits, Age & Health, Production & Culture the Eagles could Release the Following Players after this Season

1) J Peters Due $10 Million – $3 Million Cap Hit = $7 Million Savings
2) M Sanchez Due $5.5 Million – $2 Million Cap Hit = $3.5 Million Savings
3) R Cooper Due $5.3 Million – $2.4 Million Cap Hit = $2.9 Million Savings
4) B Celek Due $5 Million – $ 0 Cap Hit = $5 Million Savings
5) D Sproles Due $4.5 Million – $1 Million Cap Hit = $3.5 Million Savings
6) D Ryans Due $4.5 Million – $1 Million Cap Hit = $3.5 Million Savings
7) D Jones Due $2 Million – $333,000 Cap Hit = $1.67 Million Savings

By Releasing these 7 Players the Eagles will free up another $26 Million to go along with their $21 Available Space giving them $47 Million Totalto work with and do remember they could always pursue some of these same Players at a reduced Salary …
The Reality is if the Eagles finish in bottom 1/4 of the NFC as they are right now there is little reason to pay big Contracts to all 7 of these Players for their age, injuries and production for a 4-5-6-7 Win Team

Just a Thought to throw out there

Remember the Eagles have no QB for 2016 so if they Sign Bradford to a $15 Million per Season Deal and they don’t release any of these 7 Players I listed,
Then we are talking about the Eagles having only $6 Million left to sign any Free-Agents and for their 2016 Draft Class which is not realistic

Later on I will post a list of Available Free-Agents that I think can help this Team Moving forward as it presently is set up and Coached aduuming that Chip Kelly returns for 2016 and that they remain with a 3-4 Scheme as their Base Defensive Scheme…

Obviously deciding and getting a QB has to be the First Decision for Chip Kelly
And if wants to keep Sam Bradford on a short 3 Year Term Deal, than Sanchez and his Contract has to go..

I’ll be honest Denny,
With having $21 Million Under the Cap with no Proven #1 QB and 14 Free-Agents to address and 6-7-8 Draft Choices to Sign . I can’t see how the Eagles can even field a 53 Man Team and have 90 Players in Summer Camp without releasing at least 5 to 6 off the 7 Player list above..

Between Bradford/Sanchez at QB in 2015 that was $18 Million
Does Chip Re-Sign Bradford and then Release Sanchez
Does Chip Let Bradford walk & Start 2016 with Sanchez and Deaft a QB in the 1st Round to groom for the Future
Or Does Chip let Bradford Walk, Release Sanchez too and then make a Trade for a Kaepernich, RG3, EJnManuel,or a Johnny Football, etc etc

This decision alone about what to do at QB for Chip will basically decide the fate the Eagles Franchise and Chip Kelly himself..

Here is the List of the 15 Current Eagles Players that will be Free-Agents after the 2015 Season is over, now Remember that the Eagles have $127 Million of Committed Contracts already in 2016 and these 15 Players will eventually have to be replaced to field a 53 Man Roster

Sam Bradford, W Thurmond, N Carroll, C Thornton, V Curry, EJ Biggers, M Austin, S Ajiroutu, D Molk, J Vandervelde, C Sturgis, N Goode, Thad Lewis, E Reynolds & T Hawkinson…

Here’s a Quick Look at 2016 Free-Agents that may or may not be on the Eagles Radar this Off-Season

Offense
QB – Joe Webb – (Panthers) – Young, Big,Athletic and also Plays Special Teams

FB – Will Johnson – (Steelers) – That’s right a FB, which I believe Chip Kelly really needs to incorporate into his Offense..

WR – Mohammed Sanu (Bengals) Big Target, Strong & Athletic and a nice Target in the Red-Zone where the Eagles WR’s have Struggled
Sanu is a Jersey Kid who went to Rutgers and very Physical and also Plays Good Special Teams
WR – Risard Matthews -(Dolphins) – Having a Pro-Bowl Season that no one knows about and leads the Dolphins in Receptions, Yards & TD’s though Jarvis Landry gets the press.. This guy can play and is sneaky fast with great hands, polished route running and a knack of making big plays.. Could be a 1 Hit Wonder but could also be a steal in Free-Agency
WR – Brian Quick – (Rams) – Has had his Up & Downs with Injuries and Production but I think with a change of scenery with a better scheme could really become the big play WR that many were hoping out of College (App State) Quick is 6-3, 220lbs and is Physical and not shy to Block and would be a nice Red Zone Target

TE – Ladarius Green – (Chargers) – A Big, Athletic and a Good Blocker who has filled in nicely for a aging Antonio Gates who is also a Free-Agent.. Chargers may keep him and let Gates walk but Green has Starter’s TE Talent

TE – Dwayne Allen – (Colts) – another Big, Athletic,Physical TE who would be a nice Upgrade over Celek and a more traditional In-Line TE which you need to have in order to be a good Rushing Offense

TE – Logan Paulson (Redskins) A 6-6″ Athletic Target who is strong in the Red-Zone and would be a nice Complement to Zac Ertz

(this is a very Strong Free-Agency Class for TE and the Eagles need to upgrade for the Future and getting a 4-5 Veteran is perfect experience wise)

The OL & OT in particular is not real Deep in Free-Agency, that I see but here’s who came up with and really tried to stay away from aging Players like OT R Okung, Jake Long, T Palumbo etc as these Players have too much wear & tear

OT – Mitchell Schwartz – Browns (Strictly a RT)
OT – Mike Remmers – Panthers (Strictly a RT)
OT – Donald Penn – Raiders (Has had some off the field issues when playing for TB Bucs as well as some injuries but has rebounded with a strong Season this year for the Raiders
OT – Anthony Davis (Retired in 2015 from the 49ers) in a surprise move back last Spring when the 49ers imploded, he’s another a Jersey guy and went to Rutgers and he left the door wide open about returning to the NFL
I would check him out before the NY Giants do..

Guard – Alex Boone (49ers) Physical, Smart and Versatile could slide to RT Ina pinch
Guard – Brandon Brooks (Texans) Very smart and durable and a natural leader along the OL, probably will command big $$$
Guard – Kelechi Osemele (Ravens) A big road grader who when healthy is one of the best Guards but unfortunately can’t seem to stay healthy
Guard – Amini Silatolu – (Panthers) was their Starter in 2014 until anInjury and was replaced by Scott Norwell and never really got his Stsrting Job back but has Starters Talent.. Suffered a knee Injury last week and is out for the Year so he would be a Low Risk-High Reward type of pickup for he should command much $$$ on the Market but his Health and Conditioning need to be fully checked

Center – TJ Johnson (Bengals) Provide some Depth

I’ll get some Defensive Players to check out in Free-Agency which has some very good Players this Year

Strip it down. The hell with FA. If I was Lurie I would fire Chip and start over with a new coach. I would kick the tires on McDermott. Peters, Bradford, Celek, Sproles, Ryans etc I would move on from. I would save the cap space to see what the ramifications of releasing Murray would be. I go with Sanchez next year, Matthews and Barner. I bring in a GM and go from there. Build through the draft. I may try to lock up Thurmond if the price is right. McDermott would bring in a 4-3 scheme and I would talk to Curry and see what he wants to do. Graham, Logan, Cox and Curry with Kendricks, Barwin and Hicks at LB. Rowe, Thurman, Maxwell and Jenkins are my foundation on defense.

On offense I go with Sanchez, R Matthews, Barner, Matthews, Aglohar, Burton, Ertz, Kelce and Johnson and the draft.

Dag..
Eagles would Take a $13 MillionCap Hit by Releasing RB D Murray
And or CBB Maxwell which means they are Eagles for a while…
Brandon Graham is $8 Million Hit
Michael Kendricks is a $9.25 MillionCap Hit
Any Player with a New Deal is always a huge Cap Hit in those First 2 Years then lessens as time goes on and most big Contracs are front loaded with Bonus $$$, etc…

I look at the WR Group and OL Group & QB on Offense and 2 needed Pass Rushers, DT Depth , CB & Safety

Releasing R Cooper and letting Austin & Ajiroutu means the Eagles could Add a Sanu & Matthews to go along with the Young WR’s they already have..

This team has 4-3 defensive personnel. I’m bringing in a 4-3 defensive coordinator. That would automatically solve the defensive problems. This team has defensive talent its just not being utilized. You cant tell me Graham, Cox, Logan and Curry with Hicks in the middle with Barwin on the strong side OLB and Kendricks playing the weakside isn’t a nice young foundation. I then stick Rowe at his natural position FS with Jenkins. Resign Thurman a CB with Maxwell on the other side. This isn’t rocket science.

Then you draft olineman, find young FA mid-level olineman to fit your scheme. Draft middle round or mid level WR to go with Aglohar and Matthews and go from there. Go with Sanchez, the NFC isn’t loaded with franchize QBs. Hell Hoyer, (who I have on one of my fantasy teams)throw for 300 yards a game. Bridgewater throws for 200 yards a game and has the Vikes in contention. Josh McNown even gets it in. Besides Rogers, Cam, Big Ben and Brady who the hell has a stud . The Eagles just need the right coach.

One more thing. Fans here talk about Sanchez and Bradford and Vick etc. Well guess what I watch Rodgers with no oline and no recievers he looks like shit. I watch Brady vs Buffalo and in SB vs the Giants with pressure he looks like shit. I watch Luck with no oline and no run game he sucks. Cam Newton got beat the fuck up the last few years and looked like shit with no run game. Guess what he got a oline and a run game this year now hes superman. Fucking fans want to talk shit about how bad some QBs are but don’t realize a fucking QB, ANY QB cant function without a oline, a run game and/or recievers.

If they spend money in free agency the majority if not all should go to the OLine. Those signings seem to work out much more than any other position when you look at the past 10-20 years. I would love our next coach to be a defensive minded guy that could actually build the right team here that could echo the character of this city. When you look around the league, despite all the rules that favor the offensive side of the ball, tough physical defense, running the football, owning the LOS is ruling the NFL. This will happen even more once guys like Brady and Brees are gone.
Im just so sick of how soft this team is, its been like this for more than a decade now. Certain guys can’t play here, the Bradfords Sanchezs Maxwells Peters Murrays need to go play with Jags/Rams/Chargers/Falcons of the world. Stop with the track and field style of football as if we play indoors with the heater on.
Get rid of the soft pussies on this team once and for all.

Start with the Qbs and then move onto Peters who might be the softest guy on the team, I swear this guys has the pain tolerance of 5 year old child. This guy gets stretchered off the field like he is paralyzed for back spasms. Can you imagine Runyan doing that

Free-Agents on Defense that the Eagles may want to check out

Eagles need to get bigger & better in the Middle and that’s DT’s ILB & Safety where they have some good players but are not Physical enough
Logan is good but needs help as he’s worn down as the Season has gone along as has Cox and pretty much the entire Eagles Defense due to the ineffectiveness of the Eagles Offense all season long..

DL
DT – Nick Fairley – (Rams) – Big quick feet and a solid Run Stuffer
DT – Kyle Love – (Panthers) – Big, Young & a Rotational Player on the Panthers Deep DL could be a nice inexpensive Pickup and offer more Playing Time
DT/DE – Mohammed Wilkerson – (Jets) – Big, Athletic, Mean and can play
as a 3-4 DE or slide inside as a DT and still generate penetration and a pass-rush
DE -Antonio Smith – (Broncos) – Versatile Play who can replace Vinny Curry’s Role
DE – Wallace Gilberry – (Bengals) – Versatile, Wuick first step, solid Player

OLB – Von Miller – (Broncos) – Bess Pass Rusher in Free-Agency which is the Eagles biggest need.. Would cost a ton, but if Eagles want to compete with the better Teams, then they need an outside pass rusher that can change how Teams attack the Eagles.. Von Miller could be that Player..

ILB -Demario Davis – (Jets) – Big, Mean, Athletic and a big upgrade over and aging Ryans and undersized Kendricks

There are some excellent DB’s this Free-Agency

CB – Josh Norman- (Panthers) the Best Cover CB inthe NFL today
Rivas, Sherman have lost a step and their edge a bit, Norman is the real deal and will be difficult to sign away from the Panthers

CB – Janoris Jenkins (Rams) Aggresive & Physical with elite skills, had some bagge coming out of College but has been a great team player since being in the NFL

CB Jerraud Powers (Cardinals) – get lost under the radar with Patrick Petersen and Tyrann Mathieu of the Cardinals Seconday but doesn’t a back seat to anyone in terms of smarts, toughness and cover and tackling skills (I liked him a couple years go when he was with the Colts)

CB Trumaine Johnson (Rams). Big, Physical and could even play as a Safety and line up on TE’s

Saftey – George Illoka (Bengals) Big, Physical in the Kam Chancellor mold and liked him 4 Years ago out of Fresno State.. A real thumper and strong versus the Run.. A True Strong Safety where Eagles could then let Malcolm Jenkins play Free Safety and roam and then let Walter Thurmond be a Slot-CB which is his best position and big need for the Eagles Defense

Safety – Tony Jefferson (Cardinals) another Versatile, Athletic & Physical DB who plays Special Teams and either Safety Position…

Safety – Walt Thurmond – Eagles – I would like the Eagles to resign Thurmond and gave him as their Slot CB which is his natural position and a huge need for the Eagles.. He’s had a very nice Season and been much more consistent that Malcolm Jenkins whose Play has really dropped off quite considerably the last few weeks which has me concerned…

As I mentioned in my other Free-Agent post up above, if the Eagles really want to improve quickly then they will need to add a Top Pass Rusher, Top Cover CB and a thumper in the middle of the Field (Whether at ILBor Safety)

If not, then being about a .500 Teamis what I expect for the bear future
They just can’t get after the QB unless the sell out and blitz, and DC Billy Davis scheme of leaving CB’s all alone with not over the top help does them in no matter who is back there..
Nolan Carroll will be leaving in Free-Agency as he wants his pay day and the Eagles got him on the cheap 2 years ago so that won’t happen again
Eric Rowe should be groomed to replace Maclcom Jenkins at Free Safety in myopinionwhich leaves a Strong Safety and a Cover CB to acquire

6 Games vs NFC East Opponents (Giants, Redskins & Cowboys)
4 Games vs the NFC North (Vikings, Packers, Bears & Lions)
4 Games vs the AFC North (Bengals, Steelers,Ravens & Browns)

What’s everyone’s thought about QB Connor Cook from Mich State to the Eagles with their 1st Round Pick which is looking to be in the 6th-8th Range

You figure the Browns, Cowboys, Eagles, Saints, Texans & Jets will be addressing the QB Position with their early Picks ..

The Browns,Cowboys & Eagles will likely all have Picks the Top 7
For I don’t sEe the Cowboys/Eagles winning another Game this Season
Browns have Ravens with no QB Flacco or their Top RBwho is also out for the Season

Not real sure of his Armat the NFLLevel

I like the Kid from Memphis Paxton Lynch who was 9 for 14 Today with 7 TD’s in a Blowout Win over SMU 63-0
I like his Size( 6-6″) and Arm & his Accuracy (70% with 21 TD’s & 3 Int)

Doesn’t matter. He doesn’t play Defense. He’s still the better QB Prospect.

I absolutely agree Paul.

That’ why they will have to consider making a trade or 2 to retrieve a 2nd round pick or 2.

That’s why I would consider trading Zach Ertz, Kiko Alonzo, Lane Johnson, and eating some of DeMarco Murray’s salary to make him tradable for more draft picks – and remember compensation picks can be traded this year.

Free Agency is deep with Offensive Lineman this year and grab 3 or 4 in the draft.

The Eagles have to be smart, and let Chip go so we don’t get anymore of “his players”, on this team.

I agree that some Deals need to be made but no Team is taking on Demarco Murray who really is not that good and benefitted playing behind a great OL in 2014..
Remember when Trades are made in the NFL , Teams have to be able to fit that Traded Players Current Contract under their Current Cap situation which then creates way too many variables that teams would have to jump thru and Demarco Murray is not worth that
Teams in need can go out and Sing Free-Agent RB’s like Matt Forte, Alferd Morris, Doug Martin or Chris Ivory etc without have to give up any Draft Picks

Also I wasn’t aware about Compensatory Picks being eligible to Trade, which the Eagles won’t have any as they signed more Starting Free-Agents (Murray,Maxwell, Thurmond) than they lost (Maclin) as the other ex-Eagles were either Traded or Released which the Eagles receive no Compensation for that was the Teams Decision to part ways with McCoy, Foles, Herremans, Mathis, Casey, Trent Cole & Cary Williams as they were all under Contract and not Free-Agents..

The biggest Problem I see with Trading is the Person making the Decisions
We’ve seen Chip Kelly get burned in every Deal so far and not getting enough in Return..

Ertz has a 3rd Round Payback as does Lane Johnson..
Kiko Alonso has minimal Trade Value due to his Health History and next Season will be his final year of his Rookie Contract so with a Cheapo Salary, the Eagles may keep him to see what he can do when healthy

Players like LB M Kendricks, D Ryans, M Jenkins, B Celek, J Peters & B Graham either have too big of Salaries or are simply past their primes and declining in production on the field

It’s going to take a savvy NFL GM to rebuild this Eagles Roster and Chip Kelly/Ed Marynowitz are not that Person/People to do it..

and we have seen how good Celek is when he concentrates on just Catching the football – He’s better than Ertz – as he is as an all around TE – like I have stated to you, and all the Ertz exaggerators for the last what 4 years – Brent Celek is still our starting TE, and Trey Burton, can do all that you exaggerate Ertz can do……Trade his ass..

Oline is important, but when a player has trade value, and can be replaced, then you explore the option, when you have to bring in a new coach with a different philosophy that may want to play physical smash mouth football – and that ain’t Lame.

Chip Kelly did make a trade, and traded a stud RB, for a perceived talent – that wasn’t as talented as some thought he was, and also allowed two productive WR’s to walk – but perhaps there’s no bias for them as with Lane Johnson from you – wink wink

@Paul – Those players you named are the same players you have been screaming to get rid of for the last 3 seasons – no shock you mention them again.

DeMarco Murray can play in this League – just not for the Eagles in this system. The Eagles would be wise to eat some his salary to make it easier to trade him – which is absolutely possible despite your opinion.

and If a team wants a player bad enough, you’ve already been schooled that it doesn’t matter what your value chart says they can offer a much higher draft pick – if they want them bad enough – case, and point Bryce Brown – and Ertz, Kiko Alonso, and Lane Johnson are a lot more valuable in the eyes of some GM’s than a 3 game starter like Bryce Brown – enough said with that

So your lumping what a Fired dumb GM of Bills Traded to the Eagles for Bryce Brown as Market Value? C’Mon Gliff, Your Smarter than this, RB D Murray has almost zero Trade Vale due to his Big Contract, This isn’t Baseball/NBA where Teams agree to help facilitate Trades by buying out Contracts, when your production doesn’t equal your Salarty, your Cut unless their is Guaranteed $$ at attached to the Deal which is why Riley Cooper is still around and why D
Murray will be an Eagles for the next 2 Seasons as well as CB Maxwell who both have so much up front $$$ that you have to just Play them until the guaranteed $$$ is gone or at least mostly gone

I am biased toward more physical Offensive Lineman who aren’t excused for bad play, and steroid slurping – and whose true abilities aren’t exaggerated by the gullible.

Did you enjoy seeing Ziggy Ansah work his ass for 4 sacks – He ‘s not a Left Tackle just like I said from day 1 – and a penalty waiting to happen at Right Tackle.

Stanfords QB Kevin Hogan is another interesting NFL Prospect, what he lacks in overall athleticism he makes up in football smarts, accuracy and leadership
and will get Drafted in Round 2 or 3 in the 2016 NFL Draft and make a Team as a Backup, but give him some time on a Team that’s Run oriented and he could Win some Games at the NFL Level..

It can’t be a late round “prospect”.

Its gotta be a top 10 pick on a QB. Then the two 3s on OL. QB has 2-3 years to grow with young Matthews and Agholor and hopefully they grow into something.

Draft a QB top 10…….play Sanchez in 2016 and let him get his ass kicked around with a line that includes 2 rookies ’till they start to jell a bit, then bring in the rook for the final 8…have him lead the team to 3-5 and head into 2017 with a little hope.

As was said 58,000x – including at the time – trading the 2nd round pick was inexcusable. If I hear another “had to take a shot with Bradford” line again I am going to puke. Sam Fucking Bradford. “Take a shot” indeed…..shot to nowhere.

Nightmare scenario…..

Dallas loses out (they will) and have a pick 2 or 3 before Eagles….or even worse, one before….

They select the QB the Eagles target who blossoms into something, then take some monster DE with their high second who spend the next 4 years hammering our pathetic combo of Bradford/Sanchez/late round “prospect” into the turf.

I mentioned it last week, but I think Washington wins this division. Not that they are a Great team yet, but they’re building toward something. They have a real gm (previous stints in sf & sea) where he was able to pluck talent from the draft consistently, even in later rounds (Russ Wilson, r. Sherman). Physical on the lines, can run the ball and cousins is solid enough to win (at least this division). Doesn’t bode well for the birds last two games as both Was and NY will be potentially playing for the division.

Was that Desean Jackson behind the Giants defense ? Punctuation point in Jeff luries eye ,as his non compensatory exit ,goes for the division ..was that shady having big games? Especially when he comes to philly..and don’t think DJAX isn’t working on his dance moves? How humiliation sits with this fan base will be a show to. Behold..what happened and what pivoted in the O.T. Win in Dallas? The return of bill “the piñata” Davis is reminiscent of games that starting accumulating here in the desert. .His ouster and Todd Bowles replacement were enough of a contrast ,to rebuild the organization.there were other mitigating factors ..my point ,is ..why that guy in the first place? I don’t want to hear he’s being retained after falling on himself down the stretch last year ? Why ? Chip? Then on the moment ,he traded Foles without at best a conditional compensatory two was something I shouted about ? We had a compensatory asterisk on Sam I am? That means you acknoledged he may not be durable ? That. Means your team may suffer immeasurably (as it has) and your twos value wasn’t thought through? Then you add a corner who everyone in the league knew was assisted by a system and a tandem of potential hall of fame safeties..You paid him revis money ,but didn’t kick revis tires ? And didn’t use. That potential decoy as a negotiating leverage with Maxwell? A lot of these are no brain territory? You picked the groceries for tuna casserole and came home with spam ? You’ve made this team quit ..The pivot point was two games ago up 16-3 after the Dallas OT win..when you needed one second half play to secure a Miami team to quit ..you choked and your defense choked ,and they’ve spit the bit ,since a rookie linebacker hicks went down? Isn’t that an indictment on the coach ? Back to back 45 points with New England on tap and bill getting out of the hole ,he’s addressed..some holes are so deep ,they bury you in them ..

I posted Last Week or so that I liked the Redskins chances the best down the stretch since they had the Cowboys twice with a good chance of no Romo before he got hurt again, & play the Eagles who will be beaten down by then
Giants have Panthers & Vikings still to Play ..

Falcons Fading as I stated they would, Rams have imploded with Foles playing terrible today which makes the Eagles loss to the Lions even worse..
This entire NFC (Outside of the Panthers, Cardinals, Vikings ) have all played like crap and been inconsistent so whoever makes the Playoffs has a chance

A Seahawks & TB Bucs Win Today pretty much eliminates the Cowboys, Eagles, Saints & 49ers from Postseason meaning no meaningful games in December for the Eagles …

Any doubts about if its the scheme or the players should be put to rest today as teams and QBs that have had career days vs the Eagles go back to their pedestrian selves as they play other average defenses. Winston, Tannehill and next week Stafford go back to being not very good. Billy Davis kills this team.

You need a GM/Front Office with a Vision to establish a Organizational Identity and then have a Plan on how to get there both short term and long term
In Terms of your HC & Staff to the Players you have to who you acquire and Draft for the Future..
With the Consistently Good Teams, you almost know what kind of Style, Players & Teams they are going to have, now some times injuries decimate a Team like the Ravens have this Season as they have lost 2-3 OL, their Top 2 WR’s and now their Starting QB & RB but watch, they’ll bounce back in 2016 and be a Playoff Contending Team
The Steelers, Packers, Giants, Broncos can even gave off-years here and there But they always bounce back and remain relevant
Now we see a few Organizations who have really built their Teams from the ground up with a tough, physical, fundamentally sound Players & Schemes and I am talking about the Seahawks,Panthers, Cardinals & Bengals who have all made the Playoffs the last couple of years and look poised to really make a run at the Super Bowl these nest couple of years..
The Vikings are on the right path, the Bills, Jets, Texans are improving and seemed to have a Front Office in step with their Coaching Staffs as they develop into Playoff Teams…

Eagles had a lot of Talent/Playmakers leave, though their Identity has mostly remained the same which is a gimmicky, up-tempo Offense that likes to outthink itself season after season, which at its core is built on speed & tempo but still can’t win the 1 on 1 Battles Up-Front or still can’t get consistent pressure on opposing QB’s without blitzing
Unfortunately the Eagles don’t have the infrastructure in Ownership/Front Office People of having “Football People” in helping to shape and mold their Identity and develop that Strategy, Plan & Vision..

If Chip didn’t do that he probably would of signed that stiff Foles to a long term contract and screwed us even more. Now we only lost a 2nd round pick and we aren’t screwed with a dumb ass contract with Foles. We can stick any stiff for 600,000 a year at QB that can do what that stiff has been doing for the last 2 1/2 years. kudos for that Chip.

It sickens real true Eagles fans to have to read all the immaturity on this website,so called fans hoping for losses, rooting for firings and benchings all after 1 year of poor play from a make shift refurbished team.
Its sickening to see the writings from so called fans who do not have the patience to wait for the team to come together, instead of realizing that injuries and age has taken its toll on the team coupled with young inexperienced players and a QB who has been babied since training camp,
Eagles fans would rather break out the machine guns and wipe it all away,
Watch what you wish for. We have a very solid core of players on this team with a very young head coach who in time can grow with his young team,
Injuries and bad choices have decimated this 2015 season, that doesn’t mean it will continue into 2016,
The team is only a few pieces away and most young players still need time to learn, with a successful off season of acquisitions and a good draft this team will be much better,
Fans are calling for Chips head when in fact his hands were tied this year after realizing his young receivers were not ready yet early in the year, then the oline fell apart, plus he has been babying Bradford all year and he has not used even 20% of the playbook as there is nobody on the team ready to handle the other 80%, Austin was a mistake,Cooper sucks,Ertz has been injured,Agholor is still lost,Huff apparently is still lost, then we get the case of the droppsies, plus being that the oline has been decimated the run game has been non existent,
But fans want to say Bradford sucks when none of us have even seen him run this offense yet, fans want to fire Chip when none of us have seen him put out his offense yet,
Philadelphia Eagles fans and writers need to shut the hell up and wait until a completed product is on display before wishing for shit that they will undoubtedly regret within a year down the road!!!
Go follow another team and wish for losses and injuries and firings and come back here when our team is completed and winning!
If Chip leaves he knew there was no chance to upgrade the team more then he’s already upgraded it and its easier to leave then stay, but I believe Chip still has a master plan for this team and after the off season this team will be ready…

CT I disagree, it was not the media that stated 10-6 is not good enough, I want to take this team from good to great, then proceeded to execute his plans to do this by bringing in a bunch of carpet baggers, some with injury histories and a lot of wear and tear on their treads. You do not do this with the mindset of thinking 4 years down the road, this team was built with the vision to win this year. Bradford, Murray, Mathews, Maxwell, Austin..these were key pieces in Chips plan to get better (great) this year and the plan failed miserably. Chip went in on a power trip and demanded GM power, he got it. As a fan, I do not have the patience to watch Chip learn on the job and experiment after demanding a position he is not qualified for. I have been an Eagles fan for 35 years and I have supported them financially by attending games and buying team merchandise and paraphernalia through the good and the bad, however, I do not have patience enough to watch this man continue to destroy this team with his collegiate philosophies and screwed up game plans and coaching that exhibits little adjustment during games and inability to bring in talent better than or equal to that which he so haphazardly discarded. Now his locker room which was supposed to be stronger via culture appears to be weaker due to losing, back biting, players not playing hard, players saying other players are not playing hard..lol, this was not happening when DJax, Shady and Mathis was here, the culture that Chip thought he built…never existed. Please…not 4 more years of this slop. Chip asked for a chance, he got it, it has blown up in his face. He is supposed to be a student of history, yet, he failed to learn from it by bringing in a bunch of FA’s and expecting it to work. He is supposed to be a man who studies the military and implements some of the tactics, but this team is very undisciplined….Chip is a fraud, and I think some in the locker room feels the same way.

Chip Kelly does not Understand the NFL Well enough at the GM Level and the Relationships that are needed to build a Successful Franchise in my Opinion.. His Coaching is Average at Best, but his GM/Front Office, Roster Management is Poor, hence a Poor Team going in the wrong Direction which is best reflected in the Eagles 5-10 Overall Record since last Thanksgiving..

CT – while you bring up an interesting concept of “patience” One I have mused about on many occasions, I don’t think it applies here.

I often wonder if the Philly fanbase could handle going 4-12, drafting a QB to go 5-11 the following year, adding pieces, then perhaps 7-9 and more pieces before going on a 4-5 year run of competitiveness.

Its certainly what I want to see….though I am unsure if a new coach/QB combo could handle the media/fan barrage that would come with 2 or 3 losing seasons in a row,

That being said, the “be patient” call cannot, and should not be applied here.

It doesn’t fit the narrative. This past offseason was not packaged as a “long term” thing the way Reid explicitly stated when he arrived. This was “we’ve been 10-6, 10-6 and that’s not quite good enough so these moves will push the team over the top”

Why ask for patience when the express goal was “win now!!”

That’s on management.

They cocked this whole thing up and they’re going to have to pay the piper for their shortsighted haphazard way they went about “improving” the team.

Look at your own statements:

“make shift refurbished team.”
Exactly – this is a makeshift mess. There was no plan or vision….Gore…no Matthews…no Murray….no Murray and Matthews too! A pick for Shady…….no, what’s that? Alonzo? Sure!
Mariotta, Sanchez, Mariotta, Bradford”

That’s a big pile of steamin’ “we don’t know what we’re doing at all” And that’s on management

“a QB who has been babied since training camp,”
Exactly – and that’s on the coaches. Besides, anyone who’s watched football over the past 5 years knew that Bradford sucks…and he’s a twig.

“Injuries and bad choices have decimated this 2015 season”
Exactly – those bad choices are on management for bringing in a bunch of always injured players

“The team is only a few pieces away”
Ya…a few pieces…like 4 Olinemen, a QB, a RB, a pass rushing OLB, an MLB, a safety, and a CB. At least.
Those gaping holes are on mgmt.

“his hands were tied this year after realizing his young receivers were not ready yet early in the year, then the oline fell apart, plus he has been babying Bradford all year and he has not used even 20% of the playbook”

He tied his own fucking hands!!

He decided not to offer Maclin another million.
He chose the young Wrs.
He didn’t draft any linemen for 3 years.
He chose Bradford who apparently is only capable of running a fraction of the book.

Non of this is some sort of random ‘accident’ as you seem to be implying. Everything you said is on Kelly – and when a fanbase sees that ineptitude, they lose their patience you so desperately call for.

“Austin was a mistake,Cooper sucks,Ertz has been injured,Agholor is still lost,Huff apparently is still lost,”

He chose Austin – a reject WR from like 5 teams. If kelly thought he was an “answer – then he’s an idiot.

Cooper is on Kelly
Huff – on Kelly

Again….ask for patience when the coach is rolling out Austin, Cooper and Huff. Fuck off.

I’ll have patience with Agholor fine….but don’t give me any of that other shit.

“plus being that the oline has been decimated the run game has been non existent,”
Exactly – who didn’t draft any olinemen for 3 years again? On Kelly.

“But fans want to say Bradford sucks when none of us have even seen him run this offense yet,”
He’s been running the offence for…well….would be half the year if he wasn’t a twig….he sucks at it.

“Chip still has a master plan for this team”

No.

He.

Doesn’t.

Everything you have seen has told you the exact. The way he lurches form QB to QB…pursues this RB, then that one, then another one…the way he just says “yes” within 5 seconds upon being offered Alonzo to on and on and on.

IF there was a plan, then there would be patience.

But each and every one of us are not going to preach “patience” when we’re being fed a shit sandwich of player personnel moves and being told its caviar.

If I see good drafting, good development, and a vision, then I’ll be patient as the next guy. But this mess….forget it.

“Chip Kelly knows more about the NFL, and this team then everybody on this site combined. That is not an opinion, its a fact.

A fact?? A fact??

If he “knows more about the NFL than anyone else combined” Then why did he miss the whole:
“All 400 carry RBs suck the following year” part? ‘Cause I knew that one

If he “knows more about the NFL than anyone else combined” Then why did he miss the whole:
Frak Gore’s stats have been declining for 2 years know because he’s 32 and the treads have worn off those tires” part? ‘Cause I knew that one.

If he “knows more about the NFL than anyone else combined” Then why did he miss the whole:
“RB position is being completely devalued and no one is offering Murray $$ so why are you backing up the Brinks truck to a guy who Dallas ran into the ground last year” part? ‘Cause I knew that one.

If he “knows more about the NFL than anyone else combined” Then why did he miss the whole:
“No one is offering Sanchez $$ because Sanchez is complete garbage” part? Because I knew that one.

If he “knows more about the NFL than anyone else combined” Then why did he miss the whole:
“Miles Austin has been terrible since 2009” part? ‘Cause I knew that one.

If he “knows more about the NFL than anyone else combined” Then why did he miss the whole:
“Sam Bradford is a shoulders slumped, can’t throw deep and is always hurt 18-30 QB” part? ‘Cause I knew that one.

If he “knows more about the NFL than anyone else combined” Then why did he miss the whole:
“Oline is important” part? ‘Cause I knew that one and was calling for Oline in the first round as I knew Peters was finished and Herremans/Mathis old.

If he “knows more about the NFL than anyone else combined” Then why did he miss the whole:
“Ryan Matthews has missed 28 games over the past 5 years to injury” part? Cause I and every other fantasy geek in the universe knew that one.

If he “knows more about the NFL than anyone else combined” Then why did he miss the whole:
“You should never back the Brinks truck up to a guy like Byron Maxwell who only has 17 career starts over 4 years and was really surrounded by a lot of talent and when he did play it was often against horrible QBs in the NFC West” part? ‘Cause I knew that one.

For a guy who “knows more about the NFL than anyone else combined” he sure does seem to not know much.

Buddy…..honestly, don’t come in here telling people who the “true” fans are – and how “true” fans have to gobble Kelly’s shaft as deeply as you are.

Spouting the genius of Chip Kelly when anyone with any depth/breadth of football playing/coaching/watching experience could tell you that this mish-mash of ridiculous offseason moves had nothing but disaster written all over it from the start.

Y. I don’t think the “we didn’t execute” line went over too well in the locker room – especially after these creatures of habit players were asked/demanded to change their entire regimes and do it all “his way” and then to be told, basically. “your fault!”

Reid was many things, but he never said anything other than “I have to do a better job of that” and put everything on his shoulders. Have to give the guy credit for that…..whereas Kelly……
