Fletcher Cox Puts On A J.J. Watt-Like Performance

FletcherCoxvsBills1The one Eagles that deserves the most credit for their 23-20 win over the Buffalo Bills was defensive end/tackle Fletcher Cox.  The Birds best defensive lineman recorded seven solo tackles, two tackles for losses and a quarterback in the victory.  In addition he forced the Bills to hold him four or five times, which forced them to call back numerous big run and pass gains.

It was a J.J. Watt type of performance.  He was making plays up and down the line all afternoon long.  Cox hasn’t been as consistently dominant as Watt, but he’s headed in that direction.  Bills coach Rex Ryan compared him to former Eagles great defensive tackle Jerome Brown.

Cox is definitely coming into his own and after the game, the humble giant agreed that he’s playing the best football of his career.  I don’t think there will be any doubt that Fletcher will be selected to the Pro Bowl because I haven’t seen a better interior defensive lineman in the league this season.

In the fourth quarter with the game on the line and tied up at 20-20, Cox was lined up head to head with Bills left guard Richie Incognito.  At the snap of the ball, Cox came inside and beat the offensive lineman inside on a sweep to the left side.  The big defensive lineman got tremendous penetration deep into the Eagles backfield and dropped LeSean McCoy for a 10-yard loss, that ultimately helped force Buffalo to punt.

“Fletcher Cox, he ate my lunch today,” Incognito said, to the Buffalo News. “He really shows up on film and makes a lot of plays. I got to see it first-hand today. He got me early and often. I didn’t play nearly up to my level. I’m man enough to say I didn’t play well enough for this team to win.Penalties late. Giving up a sack. That’s not a recipe for success.”

Rarely do you have an offensive line admit that he had his butt thoroughly kicked.  Incognito had been having a Pro Bowl level season up until yesterday.  Were it not for Cox forcing Incognito to hold him, McCoy would have had a 100-yard day and the Bills may have won the game.

The Birds got good field position on a  good punt return from Darren Sproles and ultimately they drove down to kick a field goal.  The key play was a pick/play by the Eagles that wasn’t called.  Two players got injured on the play, but no penalty was called on the Birds, as Zach Ertz caught the pass, broke a tackle and set up the winning field goal.

Back to Cox, he’s become an unstoppable force and the Birds will need him down the stretch as they try to make the playoffs.

Fletcher Cox is probably the only Pro-Bowler on the Roster…
Great game Yesterday and the Eagles DL/Front 7 is going to have to Win these next 3 Games for the Eagles to reach to Post-Season

Not to be funny, but I think our punter deserves to be in the pro bowl also. Donnie Jones saved us a little by flipping the field position after the costly Bradford sack towards the end of the game.

Fletcher Cox no doubt has been one of the most dominating defensive tackles in the league…these last two games he has stepped up! We need more from Logan and Thornton!

Breeze if Logan gives anymore he’ll be on Cox’s level lol. Cox, Logan, and Thornton have consistently been the strength of the defense. There isn’t a team with a 3-4 who has a more disruptive interior. The outside OLB are suppose to be the havoc causing playmakers in the 3-4, not the monsters in the middle. Imagine if we had real playmakers flanking these 3 guys.

Fletcher Cox is the best DL we’ve had since Reggie White

All these Jerome Brown comparisons are valid

If the Eagles don’t lock him up for the next 10 years then then Chip should be stripped of all power..

G you need to put another article up about the growth of our rookie ERowe

That boy has played some great football the past two weeks.

The confidence hes playing with is refreshing and just what we needed.

He played a huge role in shutting Sammy Watkins down in the 2nd half

Also, all the dummies on this site that wanted to bash Maxwell early on aren’t praising him for his great play the past few weeks.

Keep it consistent guys, you’ve been pretty quiet about it

But since after the bye Max has been playing great ball. Gave up a long TD but that was about it

Another great overall team win. I ‘ll enjoy this one today, then tomorrow on to Arizona

What’s great is we usually have good success against Palmer in years past but he’s with a juggernaut of a squad both offensively and defensively

And may I add, the guy I wanted the Eagles to draft, the honey badger , is balling out of his mind at safety for the Cards. But he’s very versatile, he lines up at corner on occasion too. I screamed on here for the birds to draft him and got ridiculed haha

I’m loving our safety play though.. very aggressive smart guys..

For every play that he makes, there are 2 plays that he doesn’t make. He is always chasing someone 2 steps behind around the field.

You are blind if you think that this guy is earning that huge paycheck. He is average on his best day and he will get exposed again Sunday night.

I agree with Hart’s assessment of the rook, but he’s delusional in regards to Maxwell. Maxwell is not only not a #1 shutdown corner, he isn’t even the best corner on this team. that distinction would probably fall to Thurmond if he wasn’t forced to play safety. He’s so good a safety we can’t afford to move him. Ideally I’d rather have Carroll and the improving Rowe as my starters. I’d love to find a sucker to dump Maxwell on.

You have to take things in Perspective

Buffalo Bills are Ranked 20th in the NFL in Overall Defense
The Allow 360 Yards per Game with 254 Yards in Passing
They Ranked 30th with only 19 Sacks this Season and Rank 16th in forcing only 19 Turnovers
The Bills were without their Best Cover CB yesterday in Stephen Gilmore and also without Nickel Back Ron Brooks so the Eagles Passing Efficiency should have been better

HC Rex Ryan has taken a Top 3 NFL Defense and made them mediocre
He’s is so over-hyped as a Coach….

Who the Bills didn’t have, who was hurt is irrelevant

We lost a linebacker that was playing at an All-Pro level

Our starting Cornerback is hurt

We got injuries on the offensive line

No one was considering this and putting astericks by the wins other teams have gotten on us

We beat a desperate Buffalo team who had one of the greatest Eagle running backs in Eagles history…dying to beat us…they were up for the game, fighting for their playoff lives

We were coming off of a major upset in New England…this could have been a trap game for us…it wasnt and we won

Stop with the excuses for the other guys when you dont give any for us!

Chip does deserve credit…its obvious we were wrong…he has not lost the team at all

You are right Jon…we have to give credit where credit is due

And credit is also due to the Quarterback-Sam Bradford

He is a leader

He goes down…the team is uninspired…he comes back from the injury and team suddenly becomes inspired with the belief that they can win…

With Sanchez, they were waiting for the big turnover, the backbreaking error…

With Bradford they play with much more confidence

Before we go throwing a bouquet of flowery sentiments on this team ,let’s remember ,in the NFL ,it’s a game to game perspective, that’s relevant. The Birds rose from the two week abyss at thanksgiving ,and beat two teams that were on the sked..One was Brady and the other Shady..and now the similarly three game stretch for all the marbles with the Cards ,Skins and Giants ..If the adjustments were indeed made ,let’s see there application in the stretch towards the finish line.Protecting Bradford is vital ,because there is no plan B ..It starts there ,and then we need have Bill Davis and Chip both coach well in the same game .I can’t recall within any more one game where that’s been the theme for its entirety ..The receivers in brown and fitz…and Desean can’t get behind our defense ..Big plays allowed won’t be covered up vs the Cards,as they were in the undisciplined Bills game..Kiko still looks awful and rarely is impactful..Wins can put lipstick on the pig,but you still need to ball at home to get to the final showdown in NY

I expected 7 to 9 Wins for 2015 Season and that’s about what they’ll end up with as a decent finish after a crappy start which is what happens when trying to sort out 10-11-12 New Starters our of 22 Positions…

No one is throwing ‘flowery bouquets’ on the team desert…and yes the NFL is week to week…that’s obvious. However, when you have been blown out, lose your starting Quarterback, when everyone is questioning the character of the team, when people have accused you of quitting, when it is said that the Coach has lost the team and players have tuned him out…when all of this is said and then the Quarterback comes back against a heavily favorite, dominate team with the greatest QB in NFL history, playing them in their building where they rarely lose…you come back and win and then follow that win up against your all time leading rusher who has fired up his team looking for revenge, with them fighting for their playoff lives…and you win again…
It is only fair to acknowledge the accomplishment of the team…to give the Coach his fair due, to give the Quarterback his due….
Nothing else is promised but to comeback the way the Eagles have from adversity, strife, and injuries-they deserve some credit!

Cardinals will not be “up” for the Game.

Eagles have great opportunity against a ‘Zona squad without any motivation.

1 – They just clinched the playoffs
2 – Its a completely meaningless game for them. The following week they play GB packers at home in a game that will determine the #2 seed. Win or lose against the Birds doesn’t matter.

So Cards will coming off a clinch and looking ahead to the much more important game the following week.

Another break for the Birds in a season of amazing scheduling breaks.

They are clearly better. Everyone knows this.

That being said, they will not be motivated for this game because it means nothing for them at all. Win or lose, they HAVE to win the following week and will be looking ahead to that matchup vs GB, rather than concentrating on the Eagles.

He can be miffed at Kelly all he wants. It doesn’t matter. The players know the deal.53 players know the game is completely irrelevant. They’re peeking at their calendars.

And if the Cards come out sluggish as I expect them to, then that’s an advantage that the Eagles have to exploit. Donut doesn’t last forever, and the Cards will wake from their doldrums at some point, so Birds better have a 2 score lead when they do.

Though still…..do I think the Eagles can:

1 – run the table
2 – beat Seattle at home

Match-Up Nightmares for the EAgles versus the Cardinals

1) WR – John Brown – On Deep Routes, Who on the Eagles can stay with John Brown, who was my Replacement Deep Threat/Return Man for D-Jax in the 2014 Draft.. Apparently, Chip Kelly did not get my Memo..)

RB – Andre Ellington – On Screens and Wheel Routes, very dangerous in the open field…

WR – JJ Nelson – The Fastest Player at the Indy Combine last Season who ran like a 4.25

HC Bruce Arians/QB Palmer will figure out a way to get the Ball into these explosive Playmakers hands … Larry Fitz/Michael Floyd are primarily Possession Receivers and Fitz is used as a Decoy quite a bit ..

Defensively the Cardinals pose Problems with these Players
DL – Calais Campbell – A Handful who always plays well vs Eagles
OLB/Pass Rusher – Marcus Golden (#44 – Keep an Eye on this Guy for he bliztzes from Everwhere)
LB/Joker – Deone Buchannon (PLays Safety, LB, covers Back out of the Backfield, TE’s and can do it all and will key on Sproles and RB’s)..
Safety – Tyrann Mathieu – Will be able to play Center Field since Eagles WR’s do not command any double Teams and will take Ertz
CB – Patrick Peterson and Jerruad Powers – Will manhandle Eagle WR’s Matthews, Agholor or Huff 1 on 1 leaving Cardinal Safeties to help out elsewhere and against the Run

Cardinals – 38 – Eagles 16

The biggest joke is that no mater who bad the bashing gets, If the Eagles Beat both the Redskins & Giants to Finish at 8-8, they will Win the NFC East regardless of getting their asses handed to them by the Cardinals

I don’t waste my Time or Money going out to watch the Eagles at a Sports Bar when they are not on Regular TV.. I don’t drink Alcohol anymore, so what’s the point of going to a Sports Bar ?… I’ll watch the Eagles when they play the Better Teams on the Big Games on National TV Games.. These 6-7 Games a Year are enough for me, for I don’t need to watch them each and every week versus the crappy Teams
When you get older and have kids like I do, My Weekend’s and Sunday’s are set for Family time so going out to a Sports Bar from 12noon – 430pm or 5pm every Sunday just doesn’t interest me or suit my Family’s Schedule
You die-hard Fans can go ahead and spend every Sunday watching the Eagles, for I’ve been there, done-that, but those days are over for me for I have other things to do on Sunday’s like Church, Sunday Brunch, Hiking, Working in the Yard during the Fall, etc,etc …
In terms of needing to get laid as loser, dipshit Henksi states, I’ve been Happily Married for 27 Years and have no issues on that end…
Maybe Henski should worry more about getting called out by GCobb than worrying about whether I watch every Game or Not or my Sex Life… What a Loser Henski has become but that’s another Post for another Day…

Here goes something I just read, through week 7, Bradford ranked 34 out of 37 with a 76.4 passer rating, since then, he’s 8th out of 37 with a 97.5 passer rating, it looks like Bradford needed what everyone said, to get his feet under him n learn the system, like him or not but being a top 8 ranked QB calls for an extension.

Andrew – Are you saying that takes some time to learn a new system and return from two ACLs? Are you saying that he has been progressing nicely through the season and is trending towards a top 10 QB.

Who knew? I thought Bradford sucked because his average statistics and winning percentage with STL were bad. That’s what some Canadian and a couple of retired folks down south that don’t want the games keep telling me.

Yea I was dumbfounded too, I thought coming off back to back surgeries n not playing for almost two years plus learning a new system weren’t good enough excuses, how wrong we were, looks like we’re stuck with him for the next five years, what a shame….lol

I know Vinny likes to harp about the bottom line when it came to Foles, his record! Guess what? In games that Bradford started and finished, he’s 6-2, isn’t that’s all that counts?

Paulman buddy you are being brutal. Cmon man why be a debbie downer? Let people enjoy their eagles. Whe you say things like “the eagles will win nothing with chip kelly” that in turns begs the question why watch or even post anything? You have already stated what will happen?

Now I will say Bradford will be back and get him a speed demon and fix this line and we are cooking. I can’t even look that far because we are in the thick of a playoff race. And we all know you get to the dance who knows. And Far as getting thrashed by Seattle? yea if it was Foles at the helm. Bradford takes hits and throws dimes when getting rushed no back peddle. When you play seattle you just have to punch back. Their defense is like tyson in his prime most teams lose beforethe bell because of fear.

We are witnesses sing a young team grow and develop right before our eyes.. Make no mistake about it, this team is not finished. You can only do some much in one offseason, especially the players who play this game who only have so much OTA and training camp nowadays in 2015. It’ll be an interesting offseason to say the least with Chip Kelly calling the shots in year 2.

Philly will be wearing all black on Sunday Night. I have a bad feeling about this game from a match up stand point for the Arizona Cardinals are way more talented and developed right now in 2015 then our Eagles.
Arizona playing out doors in a cold hostile environment can affect the game in mid December how ever. Arizona is coming off a win as well and has already clinched, and I really do believe a 34 Fitzgerald is due a bad game against Philly. They very well could come out relaxed.
I expect a game similar to the 2013 season when Arians came into Philly and Foles led us to a 20-24 Victory

Look at Lamar Miller!!! Dude is an animal.

Man there are some low expectations around here.

That above set of stats….Bradford, Cousins, Smith and Cutler.

And Bradford is the worst of that bunch of “I’ll take 4Qbs who will not win the SB this year for $100 Alex” QBs

And yet the Hype continues:

“top 8!!”

“Deserves an extension!”

Oh ok. I am being too rough……forget the past 7 games…..

We can only use a ridiculously small 4 game sample against 2 teams who have quit and another who commits a penalty every second play to evaluate Bradford.

Before the Sam Bradford hyperbole becomes too extreme consider this. How does he compare to his peers, in the same situations, against the same teams:

(since the Carolina game)

VS Miami:
Bradford 19-25 236 1-0 (Impressive!!!)
Fitzpatrick: 22-37 277 4tds
Eli 27-31 337 4tds

So really….same team same time period and other “competent” QBs are ripping the Dolphins apart.

New England
Bradford 14-24 120 2td (120 yards! Impressive!!)
Osweiller (first year player) 24-44 270 1td -1int
Eli 24-44 361 2td

Buffalo
Bradford 23-38 for 247 1 and 1 (including a SOLID 7 of 17 and an int in the second half) Impressive???
Alex Smith 19-30 255 2td
Hoyer 26-43 293 3td 1int

Sorry, I’m not buying it.

Against the same competition, over the same time period when I am supposed to be seeing this “impressive – improving” QB….I see a guy who is being out-dueled by the likes of Brian Hoyer, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Alex Smith and little Eli who are shredding the same teams Bradford is putting up sub-pedestrian numbers against.

You will notice I didn’t put up Aarom Rodgers, or Brady, or any of those guys.

Against the exact same competition, over the same time period, Bradford looks like a chump compared to QBing Titans like Hoyer, Fitzpatrick, Smith, and the like.

I mean clearly expectations are low for this guy if people are getting hyped over 236 and a td against the “we’ve quit” Dolphins.

“At least he’s not turning it over” Wow. Great. Trending upwards indeed.

Exactly Paul. That’s all I have been saying. He is not a stud but considering the options it is in everyone’s best interest that he continues to improve. And with each week, his improvement means we should, as fans, want to see more. Maybe he continues developing. Maybe he falls flat on his face. Either way, his current trend is encouraging.

Its really not even funny how much of a clown you are. Let me guess, you saw that post and then spent the next 12 hours digging around for some kind of relevant stats to prove your point.

Based on your above analysis, QBs should be judged based on how other QBs performed against similar competition during similar time periods. Got it……

So under that analysis, the fact that Bradford had very similar stats against Buffalo (247, 60%, 1TD, 1Int) as Tom Brady had against Buffalo (277, 51%, 1TD and 1Int) in the last month means the two are similar in talent? Or how about comparing Aaron Rodger’s performance against Dallas to Sam Bradford’s performance against Dallas (again very similar against nearly identical defenses).

You are so off and bias its not even funny. You will never admit you are wrong which is fine. I don’t expect you to. But stop with this act. You are reaching for anything to try and support your hate for Bradford. Give it a rest.

Have to add my 2.cents and to assist you all on the perspective from the desert …Sam I am is not unfairly being criticized and he’s not unfairly being lauded of late..his body of work has been a tale of two seasons; as has the team..one point Vinnie made cogent , was a team of mercenaries was assembled, and the results were predictably shaky early on..nobody is neglectful that cohesion and defined roles and familiarity, especially on the O. line are a work IN PROGRESS. .The domino effect and learning to trust guys to make plays falls clearly on the QB..Nobody is saying he’s passed the “eye test” as an “elite” qb..but he’s doing the things as advertised by being careful with possessions of late..Our red zone efficiency ( or lack of) and picks were an albatross with both folks and sanchez..fixing that was the plan..because in lieu of not ; we had zero % chances of turning our fortunes..Add in the GMS mistakes as far as weapons and the offensive line ; I think in that big picture the Sam haters..have to admit he’s been doing enough good things to give hope to a team that had more questions and speculation of quitting under sanchez tutelage..he’s had mediocrity and he’s had some flashes, that’s who and what he is..on a local slant Arians has never been accused of exchanging holiday cards with Chip..flexing to evening start helps big time..Vs. 11th kickoff..some vital signs to show the disparity..cards avg..299 yds.rank 3rd..in passing offense Vs 20th rank 236yds..for eagles..closer in rushing cards are 10th 118..Vs 13th..115.for good birds…pass defense 12th 234yds..Vs 258..and 23rd.for birds..and the huge disparity 5th ranked in rush defense 87.7….vs.126. 27th..for eagles..as always the birds vs birds are on paper birds of a different feather..the weather will be a balmy 40s…running the rock will not be easy …a few notes from cacti land…this teams won 7..in a row..they’re for real…Michael floyd..alert..with brown and fitz.getting all the attention.this guy has gone over 100yds.in 4 of his last 5 games and 6 tds.in this 7 game win streak…alert the debate on Sam and this squad will be defined on the field vs.a potential super bowl opponent. .trust me Arians has this team focused and donuts are not in the picture. .

Leaps and Bounds!!! Against the same scrubby teams he is being humiliated by Fitzpatrick, Hoyer and Smith.

How could he not be improving against the last few teams he’s played???

The problem is his minimal “improvement” is dwarfed by these other QB titans who are taking the same teams and using them as their own person “get a new contract stats machines” while oour “improving” QB is scratching out 230 1 and 1 against them.

That’s bad.

Were any of you actually watching the game? In the second half…when it was tight…

Bradford was 7 of 17 for 108 and a pick.

I’ll let that sit in for a bit.

In a close game a solid 41% for 108 and a pick.

and 41 of those 108 on a 1 yard pass to a TE who was picked open.

OK then.

Low expectations indeed.

Canttakeitanymore
Canttakeitanymore
December 15, 2015 1:33 pm

Yeah – I did watch actually.

I saw two passes in the second half that by no fault of Bradford hurt his overall numbers. The first was a short crosser hot route to Ertz that was right on the money and would have gone for huge yards because they were in zero blitz. Ertz didn’t look for it and they punted. The second was the INT which was a perfectly thrown ball that should have been caught or at the very least not intercepted. Those two plays go differently and all of the sudden he has more yards, higher completion percentage, and no picks.

I know everyone has these things happen to them (which is probably your counter) and I agree. However, that is why you need to watch the games to see improvement because stats don’t always tell the whole story.

I love how you rely on stats when they “support” your position but then discredit stats (i.e. Ertz 41 yard reception was YAC following a pick) when they hurt your position.

LMAO…Amazing

When you have a biased agenda that ignores all context, all reality.

We keep forgetting the position that we were in…we didn’t have a starting Quarterback. We were stuck, there was no way for us to grab Mariotta…no way to get Winston…after them…everyone else is a project, a shot in the dark….We were stuck with two at best backup Quarterbacks…

So we took a shot with a second round pick at a starting QB-Sam Bradford

Its clear to anyone with half a brain now that Sam Bradford is worth more than what we gave up for him!

Everyone except Vinniedafool and few other biased idiots sees the improvement, they see a QB protecting the ball, throwing accurate passes, and showing great leadership inspiring his teammates

I’ve been consistent…I haven’t told you that Bradford would be an All-Pro Quarterback I simply have stated consistently that we have seriously upgraded the position. This was all that we could do…upgrade!

Let it sink in…absorb it…reflect

Just imagine if we would have held on to that second round pick and our Quarterbacks were Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez

Imagine instead of having a QB that we see improving, an accurate throwing, smart, tough, QB who is a leader..we would have had the turnover machine starting-Mark Sanchez-with another bum backing him up….

Sam Bradford was worth that second round pick!

im sorry sam bradford is not and was not worth a 2nd round pick he just wasnt. especially not when dudes like

tyrod taylor
ryan fitzpatrick
josh mccown

were all picked up off the street and have all outperformed him. sam has been invisible, incapable and pathetic looking more times than not and the only reason some of you guys or starting to support him is because the division is within reach. but if someone in the nfc east was actually good and this division was already in the bag (like it should be if every team didnt suck) nobody would be singing this tune.

sam has done what he has always done this year, get injured, and when not injured throw a few tds, throw a few picks, not be a difference maker, dink and dunk. more times than not this offense has just straight up been unwatchable. people can debate all they want but the fact is sam bradford can never win a super bowl unless he has a lights out D and the running game improves drastically. he isnt the guy thats gonna put the team on his back and win us a superbowl or playoff gameS.

sometimes i wish i couldnt see reality so clearly as i wish i could be hopeful with this bum behind center

Sam Bradford has made clutch plays to win ball games, his improvement has been dramatic with the accuracy of his passes…the Eagles offense has suffered from poor offensive line play, poor running game and receivers who have more dropped passes than the vast majority of the teams in the league. Despite all of this, everyone notes the improved play of Sam Bradford in uplifting the team and giving us a chance to win the division.
Who cares how bad the division is…the bottom line is that we have a shot, we have a chance…when Bradford was out no one would have given us any opportunity at all with Sanchez the turnover machine starting…
One of the main reasons why we are even talking about the Eagles and the playoffs is because of Sam Bradford who is doing exactly what I predicted…he’s improving
Clearly…he’s worth the second round pick that we gave up for him…the only legitimate argument that can be made is for Tyrod Taylor …but its hard to imagine him being much more successful in this offense than Bradford…he has more offensive talent around him in Buffalo than Bradford has here and yet he is 6-7 just like the Eagles…and when it came to the money game…the big game that Buffalo needed to keep in the playoff race…Bradford was better!
Sam Bradford was worth the second round pick, he was the best available Qb and next year if we add some more talent on the Offensive line…and a wideout who can catch the ball…we will be much better and so will Bradford!

Sam Bradford has played better over the past few games, he still scares me as it relates to the health issues, but I can’t knock his QB performance over the last 3 games.
I still can not stand Chip Kelly, I just do not like the guy at this point and I must admit my dislike of him and some of his moves have made me not be as gung ho about the Eagles as I normally am..but I can’t knock Bradford right now. Bradford is not going to go bombs away all the time, especially because we do not have that deep threat and that is not what Chumps offense is all about, but I have been more encouraged to see Bradford go down field taking shots lately, his throws to Agholor and Celek were good, that was Celek’s fault on that pick, not Sam I Am!

Why is it so hard for you all to understand?
Name me ONE Qb in the League that is playing at an Elite level that has only been the system for less then a year. There isn’t one. Any Qb playing great ball right now has been with the same team and weapons for the most part for years. Bradford has only been here for months, with a running game and oline that has been shakey and Inconsistent. The WRs have not helped out the quarterback this season either. How can we possibly judge a Qb with all those factors, INCluding two torn acls?
Stop giving me that shit that he sucked in STL, because for one he didnt. He actually looked quite impressive at times with no oline, receivers worse then the ones he has in philly and a shitty defense backing him up. There was no way in hell Sam was going to put duel San Francisco and Seattle during his tenure in STL.

Despite the lack of offensive talent…no Chip Kelly team has ever had this limited amount of talent at the offensive line, running back and wide receiver…Bradford is doing more with less talent..we can see it with the decision making, the accuracy of passes…keeping his eyes down field despite getting hit…not holding the ball, not turning the ball over…giving the team chances to win.

The Reality is if the end result is the 2015 Eagles being 8-8 or worse and not making the Playoffs, would they have been better off of having that 2nd Round Pick next Year for even Koolbreeze has to realize, there is no Guarantee at all that Bradford even remains and stays with the Eagles after this Season as he already turned down a nice Offer this Summer from Chip Kelly..
If Eagles Fail to Make Post-Season, also lose a 2nd Round Draft Pick and Sam Bradford sign’s elsewhere while Costing the Team $13 Million in 2015 as a 1 Year Rental, then this Season was a complete Disaster in the Big -Scheme of things for they would be right back where they started when Chip Kelly got here 3 Years ago and that’s not having a QB to Run his System…

If Bradford’s Play continues to Improve and the Eagles Finish the Season Strong and make the Post-Season and Bradford signs an Extension to remain in Philly and the clear-cut Starter for 2016 & Beyond, then the 2nd Round Draft Pick is worth it for what was the other options at QB?

If Bradford’s Play regresses where he is a bottom-half QB in the NFL, or he gets hurt, then no, the 2nd Round Pick was not worth it for him..

These Next 3 Games are Huge for the Eagles, Chip Kelly and Sam Bradford
and we’ll see how it all shakes out …

Tyrod Taylor just got outplayed by Bradford. And the number one overall pick Winston has an elite WRS Corp and Douglas Martin has been balling this season.

Ryan Fitz also has a hell of an experienced Wr Corp with a beefy oline to protect him and defense.
A Qb is only as good as his supporting cast. Bradford has 14tds 11ints. But how many of those ints have been on Sam? 4-5? How many touchdowns have been called back by an illegal formation this season? How touchdowns have been dropped? Or the receiver didn’t get his feet down?
Stop it. Stats are important but does not even come close to telling the full story.
If Sam bradford leads this team to postseason we have our Qb. He did his job against Washington earlier in the year the defense just laid a egg and Sturgis lost us that game. Bet u if Sam doesn’t get hurt we win the miami game as well

Doesn’t TB Bucs Start 3 Rookie/New OL ?

If Bradford continues to play well as he has, then the Team and Coach Kelly are heading in the right direction which is about I can ask for with 10-12 New Starters… Eagles will need to add 2 OL and 2 WR’s next Year
How Bradford finishes the Season will likely determine on whether he stays or not, I.m not sure sure Chip Kelly really has much of an Option, but Bradford probably does have some options if it he doesn’t remain with Philly

I’m not changing up anything. U said that Fitz Patrick and tyrod Taylor are all qbs playing better then bradford in new systems, yet they lost to him. Bradford even outplayed Brady not turning the ball over. U might as well not even say bradford threw a intereception against the bills. That one was on celek.

There is not one Qb in the League playing great or elite ball who have not been in the system and same team for years. That’s not an excuse. That’s a fact. BradfoRd if not for the drooped touchdowns would have had great stats against the jets

Fletcher Coxs last few games with the Eagles. If the Eagles were smart they would try to move Cox this offseason and get draft picks if someone will bite. Cox will demand a mega contract after next year which no DT is worth. Buffalo has 500 million invested in there dline and it doesn’t matter. Suh gets a ridiculous salary and it doesn’t matter. A DT just doesn’t impact a game enough to warrant a 100 million dollar contract. Its the same concept with WR. Its riduclous to pay a Megatron or Dez, AJ Green etc for essentially the same stats 30 other receivers give you for a fraction of the cost. Those receivers have won nothing either. QB, LT, Pass rushers or elite CBs are the only players you break the bank for. Move Cox for draft picks this offseason.

I dont think he will. Looking at what the packers gave to their DE player recently i dont see why we couldnt get fletcher to sign a contract similar to him. Their stats are almost the same..while i do believe fletcher is the way better player i wouldnt mind signing him to a deal worth 11-12 million a year. And seeing how we paid an average CB elite money……….

Again another mistake by the front office who should have re-upped Cox this past offseason when they had: plenty of cap space and, more importantly, all the negotiating leverage.

Now that Cox has pretty much exploded onto the national scene they’re fucked. Cox has the leverage.

His agent’s advice (unless Eagles break the bank this offseason) will be to play out his last year before hitting the market where he’s going to command Watt/Suh $$. And he’s not worth that.

So Eagles through a ton of $$ as a rubber-legged RB instead of using the $$ to commit to their homegrown young talent.

Hopefully it won’t bite them in the ass, but they’ve certainly lost the advantage.

Eagles should have Drafted WR Martavius Bryant or John Brown or Dontae Moncreif in 4th Round in the 2014 Draft instead of Jaylen Watkins

Martavious has become a weapon, but wouldn’t be the number one that the Eagles were looking for. He fits in perfectly with the Steelers playing 2nd to Antonio Brown; Wouldn’t be the same player here with the QB’s we’ve had.

And stop it with John Brown already. He isn’t anything special, he’s a 3rd or 4th option in the receiving game for Arizona – He’s basically 2 steps step above Josh Huff(big deal) – and no to Donte Moncrief your mediocre preferred prospects.

Stupid Comments GMCLiff stating Bryant wouldn’t be anything special with the Eagles due to their QB play .. So what does this mean, the Eagles should not Draft any WR’s then… Having a Big, speedy Target would help the Eagles Mediocre QB play, don’t you think ??? Duh….

Your just Jealous that you never heard or saw John Brown on the Radar who I was talking up all Pre-Draft as a legitimate replacement for D-Jax

John Brown’s Stats in his first 28 NFL Games
103 Receptions for 1,600 Yards & 10 TD’s …

D-Jax’s Stats in his 1st 2 Full Season’s with the Eagles (31 Games)
124 Receptions for 2,068 Yards and 11 TD’s

***Do Note that in John Brown’s Rookie Season in 2014, that QB Carson Palmer only played QB in 9 of those Games as he got injured and the Cardinals had to use Back-ups QB’s Drew Stanton, Ryan Lindley and even your Bust, QB Logan Thomas, to finish out the Season

Paul, Bruh, you can attempt to make your case for John Brown all you want, but he is what he is a 3rd/4th option on the Cardinals – that’s all

He has made some plays – congratulations – but please stop with the trying to make him look like he can hold DeSean Jackson’s jock – He can’t – Do you honestly believe he would have been a feature target for Foles/ Sanchez/Bradford???

– He’s your guy, and you’re sticking up for him. I get it, but he’s nothing special – so just stop with the John Brown talk. To me that’s stupid

Martavious Bryant would have had the same problem with Ben Roethlisberger as his QB N Philly. There’s nothing stupid about it. If you disagree, you disagree – But he wouldn’t have been a number 1, remember he didn’t come out of the shoot as a rookie, as he did later on in the season. His potential would have been stunted here.

That’s just my opinion.

your stats for John Brown don’t make your case either.

He got playing time last year because Fitzgerald, and Michael Floyd were hurt – otherwise he wouldn’t have played much – in a Cardinals Offense that is know for it’s passing game. His career game was against the Eagles – which isn’t saying much. He is nothing.

where as DJax’s stats which are better – was double teamed or played with a deep Safety over the top EVERY GAME – resulting in 2 Pro Bowls

So, again just stop patting yourself on the back with John Brown – you have no reason to.

I believe that the Howie/Kelly’s Plan all along with that #22nd Pick in 2014 Draft was WR Brandin Cooks, (who Kelly knew very well since he Played at Oregon State)
Beckham was not expected to last much further than the 12-15 Selection so Eagles Camp already had him off their List.. They were going to Select Cooks or Safety Ha-Ha Dix at #22 before the Saints Traded up and took Cooks at #20 and then the Packers Selected Dix at #21 just before the Eagles Selection which is what got Kelly Upset at Roseman…

Great comments from Arians about the QB position and what it takes to win. “I think it just takes time for guys. Some it takes a little longer. Others, by the second part of the season, they should be flourishing.”

Could the light be turning on for this O? I sure hope so. Frankly, although Bradford has played well as of late… he has a 97.5 passer rating, a 65.2 completion percentage, five TD passes and just one interception. … I feel like they could have should have would have played much better with better coaching at the start. It seemed to me that Kelly was trying to jam his plays into each game regardless of what the D gave him. Example- Why didnt Kelly either call more plays under center or change the RB earlier? Im still not satisfied with what we have seen from this O or it’s head coach… but I like where it’s moving.

Stevo, Bradford is coming off of two knee surgeries and missing two years of play…Kelly did the right thing in bringing Bradford along slowly. Think about how good his numbers would be if we took out the interceptions that were bouncing off of receivers hands, the inordinate amount of drops…like Cooper’s drop of a perfectly thrown -50 yard bomb…the perfect throw to Celek that he had in his hands in his possession only to be wrestled away from him.
I’m impressed by Bradford’s leadership…he has taken hits, yet he stands tall in the pocket…his teammates are rallying around his leadership.
The touchdown pass he threw to Agholor was an example of a Quarterback throwing a wide receiver open…he hit him in stride away from the defender to lead him right in the end zone…
He’s playing better and Kelly has made it very clear…he will be the Quarterback going forward…
His improved play bodes well for us!

Chimp Kelly needs to shut the hell up as it pertains to Bradford being the Eagles QB of the future. Bradford’s agent likes what Chip is saying as it drives the price up. Let’s not forget, Bradford has to want to be here too, it’s not just about what chubba wubba Kelly wants. Listening to Bradford’s press conference today addressing questions about him playing here next year he did the smart thing from a negotiation stand point and did not directly address his commitment to re-signing with the Eagles..he was non committal. If Bradford was gung ho being an Eagle he would have signed the extension when it presented to him, he decided to bet on himself to see what he can get in free agency..so there is no guarantee he will be back in Philly. Bradford will take the best deal and the best situation…listening to him he does not sound like he is a big fan of the area..more specifically the people…just saying.

EHL, the price is going to be up anyway..Bradford has got Chip Kelly and the Eagles locked in save a serious injury or just a catastrophic collapse.
There are not going to be any discounts for the QB…no good QB’s in the draft, no free agents…lose Bradford and the best shot you may have is Nick Foles who will probably be cut by the Rams
We know Chip Kelly is not taking that option at all..
Bradford not going anywhere even if the Eagles have to franchise him…

Do note Eagles will have to release a few Players to free up some Cap Space so this Deal won’t be announced to after the Season is over
Veterans with Decent size contracts with little to no dead $$$ will be released like D Ryans & B Celek come to mind and could always be resigned at a lower Salary.. Pending Free-Agents like C Thornton, N Carroll, V Curry will not be Resigned and move onto other Teams..

He did Alex Smiths deal which was a 4 year deal for 68 million, 17 million a year with 45 million guaranteed. He wont go backwards. Plus factor in the salary cap is going up 10 million. That is the going rate for vet starting QBs. Thereisnt a alternative option Chip cant go into year 4 with his 5th starting QB.Chip is banking on Bradford following the same path as Palmer.

If the Eagles beat the Cardnials it will be such a emotional high that they will have nothing for the Redskins and lose less than 6 days later. IMO. The game is meaningless. I wouldn’t even play J. This team cannot just turn it off and on so easily. It has taken them all season to start to build some positive momentum and now you are suggesting that they interrupt that momentum because they might not be up for 2 straight divisional games to try to make the playoffs? I disagree with you completely.

The game might have no meaning as far as standings, but I would like to seem them build off of 2 wins and measure themselves against one of the better NFC teams. Balls to the wall this weekend.

Football and the NFL in particular, is a momentum Sport…
Teams cannot just turn it on and off and especially the 2015 Eagles who simply are not good enough to Turn it on and off and are so inconsistent anyways…

Eagles have to Win out — As simple as that to Finish 9-7…
If they don’t, then they don’t deserve to make the Post-Season anyways..

Cardinals will come out flat in what is a completely meaningless game for them.

Through the first half they will make uncharacteristic mistakes. Maybe a few false starts or offsides, a bobbled punt return, easy drop, holding.

This won’t last forever however as they are a good team and will get things back on track in the 2nd half.

Incumbent on the Eagles to quickly jump on the just clinched uninspired Cards who have spent the week disinterested in the 6-7 squad in front of them, and concentrating on the huge important GB matchup at home the following week.

Again, the Cards will wake from their first half doledrums at one point. It is imperative that the Eagles take advantage of the Cards uninspired early play and keep them in “just get out of dodge without injuries” mentality throughout the game.

If this is a 3 point affair at half, then Eagles will be in trouble because the Cards are the better, more rounded squad and have the better chance to prevail in a close game.

Get a 14 point lead in the first half, and everyone on that sideline will be thinking about calling nothing but “safe” plays, resting starters and moving on to GB next week.

Again, a win against Philly is irrelevant as far as Arizona is concerned. The GB matchup determines everything for them.

the Phils minor league system is looking pretty good after the Cole Hamel and Ken Giles deals. They now have 6 guys in the top 100 MLB prospects plus 2 young arms in the majors that would make that list if not for being in the majors ( Aaron Nola and Vincent Velasquez).
#5 JP Crawford SS 20 years old
#43 Mark Appel RHP 24
#51 Jake Thompson RHP 21
#56 Nick Williams OF 22
#59 Jorge Alfaro C 22
#85 Cornelius Randolf OF 18
Phils have 4 good right handed pitching prospect in Nola, Velasquez , Appel and Thompson. Time to get some lefties. University of Florida prospect A J Puk is a left handed pitcher, he might be their selection with the 1st overall pick. Former first round pick Jesse Biddle is a left handed pitcher but he has disappointed.

The trend in baseball has taken on a whole new dynamic with such an emphasis on pitching and defense- my guess its a post-steroid (2) era. The KC’s, Bucs, Astros of the world have sent out a message to the big spenders. That still hasn’t stopped $100-250 million contracts, its just made teams realize that young controllable arms (think mets) is the place to start- Crawford, Williams and Alfaro will be the offensive foundation along with Franco of course.

I wouldn’t expect him before Sept 1… They have a legitimate case to hold him back to limit service time. They may get their hand slapped on Franco but with galvis being barely adequate they can make a case for minor league development …hell they may not bring him up till june of 17 for permanent…

Appel has 2 Full Seasons down at Double AA Ball with a 5.14 Combined ERA..
He still has a High Strike-Out Ratio (8 K’s per 9 Innings) and may be best suited
as a Late Inning Relief Pitcher in the Big Leagues instead of a Starter down the Road… He’s 24 Years Old so he still has time to figure it out..
Scouts say he delivery is still to basic where he doesn’t hide the ball or use much deception and that Hitters can pick his ball up easily..
AA Hitters Batted .280 + as an average off him the last 2 Years which is not a good sign about location and control or falling behind hitters..

the Phils have 2 good choices to find a top line left hand pitcher with the first overall pick. 6’7″ college pitcher AJ Puk or 6’6” high school pitcher Jason Groome. I personally would like to see them select the high school pitcher but understand they will probably select the safer college player.

bugsyhawk
bugsyhawk

Both those guys would be great picks. Guess it depends on when they want to attempt to contend. College pitcher could be turned around quicker than a HS guy.
