Sixers Reacquire Ish Smith, Release Tony Wroten

badishThe first effects of the Jerry Coleangelo era may have taken place on Christmas eve.

The Sixers reacquired point guard Ish Smith, who played with the team last season, in exchange for two future second-round picks. The team also released point guard Tony Wroten to make room for Smith.

This move is disheartening on a lot of levels.

This is the first deal that the Sixers have made in some time in which they have given up draft picks rather than accumulate them.

And they gave up two picks for a player that probably should have been re-signed during the offseason. Its the kind of short-sighted move that the team would have made during the Pre-Hinkie days.

The release of Wroten is also bizarre. While Wroten had some issues with his game, he was still a very young piece, and one that certainly looked to have a role as a scorer off of the bench.

Wroten had been rehabbing from an injury suffered a year ago, and was still working his way back.

I understand that second-round picks in the NBA are generally considered be throw-away assets, but why give up multiple picks in exchange for a guy with limited upside whose only impact may be to help the team pick up a couple of hollow wins during the course of the season?

No matter what Coleangelo does this season, this year’s team is already far beyond repair, and it only makes sense to allow the third year of tanking to run its course and see what the lottery brings next year.

The process? Really? The sixers don’t even trust the process anymore that’s why they brought in Colangelo ..,.

Colangelo is publicly showing how poor of a job Sam Hinkie did in assembling a NBA Roster by trading 2 Future Assets for a PG who was on the Team last year
and available last Summer for a Cheapo Contract that Hinkie never even offered when having a big need to fill since the MCW Trade

And Colangelo butt-slaps Hinkie around the rest of the NBA by Trading 2 of Hinkies Precious 2nd Round Picks for rotational player in Ish Smith for Colangelo knows how useless having these 2nd Round Picks (Assets) really are in building a competitive NBA Roster

Ish Smith will help sure up the pg position and will be a player the Sixers will look to keep moving forward

On a contending team he’s a backup but on a team like the Sixers, a good player to have to help put guys in the proper positions to make plays.

Expect a lot of lob passes to both Noel and Okafor..

Hell a Lob Pass… I can even do that … You Trade 2 2nd Round Draft Picks for a PG to “Lob Pass” to your Bigs? Can’t Coach Brown teach Fundamentals to the Guards that have bed with him since September???
This 76er Franchise and its Dwindling Fan Base are so screwed…

Cliffy anything else to laugh about?

As I said numerous times on here, Ish Smith is a game changer for this roster. He is a true pg that put guys in position to succeed. He also has scoring ability

It’s not a coincidence that they make the trade for him and the next game they win. They broke a 23 game road losing streak last night. Brighter days ahead

The Ish Smith trade and the Mike D’Antoni hire are paying dividends already. 1-0 under them assuming their roles for the first time

And for the idiots on here making a big deal over two 2nd round picks when you were the same idiots complaining as to why they were acquiring so many 2nd round picks, just shut up.

Your negativity is noted, each and every poster.

When they start winning more games consistently, I don’t want to hear these phony fake fans

I don’t want to hear these out of towners talking about my Sixers when all the do is look at box scores and highlights on espn.

You’re not a true fan, your on here with an agenda

Go screw off

JH, it’s all funny to me. I don’t care how many games they win. Over the years you have always put too much stock in to irrelevant accomplishments, and then whined up with egg on your face…

….you’re reading too much into nothing. You always do. Then get offended, when it’s brought to your attention, when what others say to the contrary comes to fruition.

Ish Smith is a developmental player at best. If they were to be fortunate enough to sign a Westbrook, draft a Kris Dunn, and or EC Matthews, – and don’t forget they still have the rights to 6-6 International PG Vasilije Micic….Do you really think he makes this team????……..Especially when Dunn, and Matthews do everything he brings to the table plus 100% more size, athleticism, and outside shooting ability???

I always admire your love for the team, that’s where we connect, but you have to temper your expectations sometimes, because overall skills wise they’re unrealistic at times.

and Mike D’Antonio, I have no idea why you’re bragging on him, he outright sucks as a coach – and that tells me a lot about Jerry Colangelo’s ability to help this team as well – the homeboy network isn’t going to help this team.

I question what he really brings to the table. I can’t say for sure if he will succeed or not, but that being said, I’m also not optimistically gullible to believe he will just because others feel that way…

I told people Kiko Alonso would be a bust on this team, because he doesn’t play behind Marcel Dareus, Mario Williams, and Kyle Williams, and he is seeing what it’s like to have those Offensive Lineman on him before he could attempt a tackle – Why, because I’m not gullibly optimistic

same with Chip Kelly, the Guards on the Offensive Line, Connor Barwin, Lane Johnson, and Brandon Graham as well.

@ Paul – Ziggy Ansah made the Pro Bowl – Lame Johnson did not. Khalil Mack made the Pro Bowl – Connor Barwin did not; That Coach turned into the pumpkin I told you it would……

So did Jamie Collins, Shady, and Jason Peters who you constantly wanted gone from this team – as well as a host of GMCliff mocked players over the years, that have really made an impact in the NFL – like Josh Norman, Justin Houston, Chris Harris, Travis Fredricks, Bobby Wagner, and Marcus Peters….

Do you think the Eagles could have used these players, more so than the ones they actually drafted????…..They would have then if they had someone in the organization that really knew talent when they saw it.

If calling I see it; Calling a spade a spade, makes me negative, and not a real fan, than so be it in your eyes. am as real a fan as it gets, and I don’t like the talent on the 76er’s, and Eagles results from having them on our team.

Being a real fan isn’t based on a sentimentality to be optimistic no matter what. You can stay positive all you want, but has that evolved into any wins, a Championship, a Super Bowl????

Get outta here with that non sense JH. If you care about your children, you punish them when need be, why, because you’re being negative about their overall growth???….No, you care about them…

So like I said you can save all that playing on the conscience non sense, because I am a real fan – and always will be – negative or not.

Second round picks in the nba are inky used to fill your D league team they mean nothing…just like they meant nothing when the hinkieites were high giving themselves and calling them ‘assets’…. This team made a horrible decision to trade McW… Was he a perfect player? No… Would they win more games with hi than without…YES

You, along with a few others not named Mac Dolo or John Hart should stick to bitching about Sam Bradford and leave basketball to those that actually follow and understand the game. Any casual Fan or even non-fan know this Hinkie Rebuild Plan was a abject Failure, he’ll 1 Win out of their first 30 Games is an embarrassment to the Sport, the NBA and of course the City & and its dwindling Fan base so much that the NBA has to place Jerry Colangelo with the Organization to try to straighten it out
How f’n bad and embarrassing is that to Sam Hinkie…
Good Grief….

On a Side Note I am playing organized B-Ball with some Guys I played Softball with last Spring & Summer… We’re 6-4 after the 1st Half of the Season and play 2 running 18 Minute halves (Last 2 minutes of Game are Stop/Start with the Time) We have 7-8 Guys and I am the oldest and haven’t played organized ball in some 30 Years. I play 8-10 minutes a Half which is fine for me and helping me get back in shape.. I’m shooting 80% thus far (4 out of 5) on layups, put backs but primarily focus on playing Defense, Setting Screens & help bringing up the Ball.. We have 6 Games left and then the Playoffs and Stsrt back up after the New Years, We play Twice a week and it’s been a blast to play again, our Games are played in an Old Stone built Gym called Cove Creek Gym where the Founty has its Adult B-Ball Leagues and Volleyball

Nothing you say negative about the 76ers bothers me Paulman because I know what your all about when it comes to the Sixers. You spare the Sixers no mercy with your constant negative rambling of insignificant bullshit that is intended to throw salt in the wounds of Sixer fans who still remain loyal to the franchise. You want us all to turn against the Sixers like you have Paulman, and if we don’t then you wanna make things as miserable as you can so maybe we’ll eventually fold. I get it Paulman you hate the Sixers, and I don’t give a damn so just go away you made your point. Like how many times do I have to flush before you go away.

Bradford had time , 3 different Receivers openand thru it to no one..
Play Thad Lewis vs the Giants to reward him for leading the Scout Team
Bradford is a nice fella, he’s just not a Winning NFL QB, His Stats are hollow
as this Chip Kelly team is… It is what it is!!!
Congrats to the Skins who I said 6 Weeks ago would Win the NFC East

Philly is a Black Hole for Sport Teams right now and has been for a couple of Years .. 4 Teams, Rabid Fans and Local Media but No Winners, not even close with any of the 4 Teams right now though the Flyers are heading in the right Direction and the Phils have just begun to Start the full Rebuild Process
The 76ers on the otherhand have been in the Rebuild Mode for a few years now with very little to show for it and are a far less competitive Team since Hinkie took over… Let’s see what Colangelo & Co can do for they really can’t do any worse ….
Now it’s the Eagles time to suck in their collective ego’s and admit failure and rebuild the proper way which is thru the Draft and add some targeted Free-Agents to add depth .. This will take 3-4 Years as this Team is constructed
And the Eagles should put every single current Player on the Trade Blocks
To improve their Draft Status over the next 2-3 Seasons but this also means Drafting and Coaching the right Players in a NFL Scheme that Wins in the NFL and that’s a Solid Defense, the Ability to Power Rush when needed and to make Big Plays over the Top and the Eagles have none of these things going for it at the moment
The LB Corp has to be completely revamped (Hicks and then who?)
True Safeties need to be added as well as CB Depth, Pass Rushers, where are they?
Power Rushing cannot be done running “Horizontal & Stretch Plays”
Need the Horses up front to do and the Scheme that plows forward and not sideline to sideline
Deep threat – Eagles have none…every Team in the NFL has at least 1 WR you have to worry about going deep, the Good T arms have multiple Weapons that stretch the Field, again, the Eagles have None, Zippo, Nada!!!
This Team as currently constructed with Contracts and Players is going nowhere soon.. It is what it is and things won’t change until new leadership and a new direction is forged from the front Office to the Coaching Staff to the Roster .. This will be a minimum 3 Year rebuild job.. Minimum..
2016 is already hands tied with the bad contracts to Maxwell,Murray, Sanchez, Cooper, Peters,Kendricks & Graham .. Good Luck for whoever takes over this mess..

Was Ish Smith worth 2 second round picks?

22 points 11 assists 3 rebs 2 steals last night

Stats don’t lie. Two meaningless second round picks..

For those questioning my bball player evaluation…learn the sport of basketball and maybe you’d see that Ish Smith was and is a good fit here moving forward, he’s a true pg

Not only that, but also he fits there style of play. They run a fast paced offense. This is why D’Antoni was a perfect hire, in Phoenix he implemented a fast paced offense with smaller guards and forwards etc similar to what we see with the Warriors today

Get with the program. That’s the style Brett Brown wants

That’s what tells me the complaints are coming from fake phoney fans on this site

You don’t watch games, you just read stats then make comments

You’re full of craps

I also gotta give props to Ish Smith whose playing the PG position better than any PG I’ve seen here in a long time
Waaay better than how MCW played it
He just never had “IT”
He didn’t think like a PG
I’d keep Ish as a backup, and draft one early in the draft
But Ish has starter talent and keeps growing game by game
Now all he needs to do is develop a jump shot and he could be the starter moving forward

Rondo and Ish have very similar games
I actually think Ish is faster and has a better shot
When Rondo first started out I’m sure we’d all agree that we didn’t expect him to be this good
It was unexpected
He developed into the player he is today
Same thing could happen with Ish Smith with more playing time
26 yrs old
Good PGs last a long time in this league
