Report: Eagles Talking Byron Maxwell Trade With The Dolphins

Terrance Williams vs. Byron MaxwellIan Rappaport of NFL Network is reporting that the Eagles are in negotiations with the Miami Dolphins about a trade for the services of Birds cornerback Byron Maxwell.  The former Seattle cornerback was a big ticket signing by Chip Kelly and the Eagles prior to the 2015 season.

The Seahawks cornerback signed a six-year deal for $61 million dollars. He was supposed to be the answer to all the team’s problems in the secondary, but he struggled with the new coverages.  Maxwell was beaten numerous times while in man-to-man coverage.

Late in the Eagles embarrassing loss to the Cowboys, he looked especially poor while trying to cover Dallas wide receiver Terrance Williams.   The Cowboys wide out caught an inside route against Maxwell and went into the end zone untouched for a game sealing touchdown.

Other times he was cited for poor tackling, especially not wrapping up after contact.

Maybe Eagles new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz doesn’t see much positive about having Maxwell on the roster.   He might not fit into what Schwartz wants to ask of his corners.  Maxwell is used to playing zone.

We’ll have to wait a while to see if there’s anything to this story.

If Howie can pull this off he will in my opinion deserve a statute where Ben Franklin stands.

I cannot see this happening…it would be awesome, but I cannot imagine another Team picking up Maxwell’s Contract Plus giving up Draft Pick on top of this, especially when there are a ton of quality CB’s out in Free-Agency that would be a lot cheaper than Maxwell and probably a better Player too…

Since Miami is taking on Maxwell’s salary the Eagles wouldn’t be getting much back in return anyway.

Miami is one of those idiot teams that is always in “win now” mode. So I suppose there’s a chance….though I cannot see the Eagles recouping too much in a trade.

But I have to be wondering what is going on behind the scenes here.

The Maxwell contract can be dumped by the Eagles after this year without too much penalty (3.6 dead cap in 2018)…though if he did play the season every team in the league would know the Eagles would be cutting the guy and they’d probably be willing to wait for the Eagles to release the guy instead of offering compensation.

Howie knows he’ll get nothing next year, so must be trying to weasel something this year.

He’d basically be a one year “rental” with the new team either cutting or re-negotiating with him after next season.

I do find it a little strange that with SB they’re basically saying, “prove it” and we’ll re-neg this year or else you are cut. They’re giving him his 7th one year chance.

Yet they’re not willing to do the same with Maxwell? Why aren’t they giving him a chance under a new co-ordinator with a new scheme and on a deal thet they can basically dump at the end of the year without too much pain.

And if he is a superstar under the new regime, then they’d have him at 11/per which isn’t too high for a number 1 corner.

Why not offer the same chance to BM as they are to SB. Must be something behind the scenes.

Two weeks ago while I was on hiatus I cam across some disturbing information and analysis about the 76ers

In 2 Games versus the Orlando Magic who are 7 Games Below .500 and 11th Place out of 15 Teams in the East and their Big 3 Completely Dominated the 76ers Big 3 where the 76ers are not even close to competing hyest in the Weak Eastern Conference

Magic’s PF Aaron Gordon, Center Nick Vucevic and Guard V Oladipo are at least 2-3 Years ahead of 76ers Noel, Okafor and Ish Smith .. Its not even a comparison when you look a the Head to Head Stats when they Played twice against each other recently…
The 76ers Front Line was like a -15 in comparison to Gordon/Vucevic
and out-Rebounded by double the amount….
This 76ers Team is nowhere close and are still a good 2-3 Years away from even being a .500 Team let about competing well in the Playoffs

Just thought I would add this for whatever its worth

I don’t believe that Howie is the only person making all the personnel picks I believe it is a collaborative effort between him, and the coaching staff.
