Eagles Seven Round Mock Draft 1.0

Eagles Seven Round Mock Draft 1.0

Round 1 (Pick 8) – (from the Miami Dolphins)

Eagles Selection-Vernon Hargeaves, CB, Florida

The Hargeaves selection will be the result of taking the best player left on the draft board.  Hargreaves is a good player, very smooth in the open field.  He reminds some of former Gator and now Cleveland Brown Joe Haden with his ability to snatch the football from opposing wide receivers.

The Eagles invested an early round pick in Eric Rowe last season, the combination of Hargreaves and Rowe could hopefully cement the starting cornerback position for years to come, much like Bobby Taylor/Troy Vincent and Sheldon Brown/Lito Sheppard.

Jeff’s Selection-Ezekiel Elliott-RB-Ohio State

When the Eagles moved up five spots with the Maxwell/Alonso trade, Elliot was the first player that crossed my mind as the “new” target for the Eagles.  Elliott is a three down running back that could immediately help the Eagles offense that lacks that true #1 wide receiver; and one that features a more complimentary group of receiving threats.  All three running backs (Mathews, Sproles, Barner) currently at the top of the depth chart could all be gone for the start of the 2017 season.

Elliott despite the off field question marks is my selection, his talent translates to a “top ten” pick in the draft.

Round 3 (Pick 77)

Eagle’s Selection- Vadal Alexander-OT/OG-LSU

Alexander is big, physical, nasty and versatile, the perfect combination that Doug Pederson is looking for with his offensive linemen.  Alexander has a late second round/early third round projection, but I forecast him being available for the Eagles to select as the result of other teams reaching for positions of need like quarterback, receiver and safety.  Although Alexander has experience starting at guard and tackle, I think his best path to succeeding at the NFL level will be at guard.  Alexander would likely battle it out with newly signed Stefen Wisniewski for the vacancy at the right guard position.

 Jeff’s Selection- Austin Johnson-DT-PSU

There are a few contributing factors for why I go Johnson with this selection.  First, I think his style translates very well to what Jim Schwartz is looking for from his interior linemen.  The second part is the future of the defensive tackle position with the Eagles.

I want Fletcher Cox signed to a long term extension.  Howie Roseman has been vocal that he wants to do the same.  If Cox is extended, the amount of money dedicated to the defensive tackle position will be significant.  Bennie Logan is also due for an extension, but I can’t see the Eagles retaining both players for the long haul.  There really aren’t any other defensive tackles on the roster. Beau Allen is better suited for the nose tackle in the 3-4 scheme.  Johnson could provide rotation depth in his rookie season, and slide into a starter role at an “inexpensive prince tag” for the 2017 season.

Round 3 (Pick 79) – (from the Detroit Lions)

Eagle’s Selection-Paul Perkins-RB-UCLA

Paul Perkins has received plenty of attention by the Eagles brass and for good reason.  Although not the biggest of running backs, he possesses terrific patience when running the football and has good receiving skills.  Perkins could certainly compliment what the Eagles already have on the roster at the running back position for the upcoming season.  His success as a rookie could dictate whether the Eagles elect to bring Mathews back in 2017 or hand over the lead back duties to Perkins.

Jeff’s Selection- Connor McGovern-OG-Missouri

I see a lot of former Eagle Evan Mathis when I watch film on Mcgovern in terms of athleticism for a man his size.  He plays with a mean streak and has experience at both guard and tackle.  Mcgovern has been slated to go anywhere in that mid third to early fifth round range, but I see a run on offensive guards like Joshua Garnett (Stanford) and Christian Westerman (Arizona State) beginning in the mid portion of round two, so I’m taking him with my second pick in the third round.

Round 4 (Pick 100) – (from the Tennessee Titans)

Eagle’s Selection- Justin Simmons-FS-Boston College

The Eagles have shown a lot of interest with Simmons and for good reason.  Simmons has a very polished game, and his mentality and maturity with his approach to the game should earn him high praise from Jim Schwartz.

 Jeff’s Selection-Rashard Robinson-CB-LSU

Robinson could very well be the pick the Eagles take with their early pick in day three of the draft.  I like his style of play, and if he reaches his full potential, I think he can start oppositye of Rowe by the beginning of the 2017 season.

With Robinson the question marks come with the off the field stuff, but Chip Kelly is no longer running the show. Pederson like the majority of coaches in the NFL will have several situations where he will need to coach up the character of his players in addition to their skillset.

Round 5 (Pick 153)

Eagles Selection– Kevin Hogan-QB-Stanford

While there aren’t any intangibles that really stand out with Hogan has won a lot of football games at the college level and approaches the game the right way.  He has the physical characteristics to an NFL starting quarterback, but he will need a good bit of coaching to get him there. Hogan is very mechanical with his throwing motion and can struggle at times with locating the receiver down the field.   His list of pros and cons fits the developmental quarterback status for Pederson to mold to his liking.

Jeff’s Selection– Kevin Byard-SS- Middle Tennessee

Byard is a playmaker, he is not a safety that is going to impress you with his combination of speed and tackling ability.  Byard sees the field extremely well, the question with him is will he be able to translate those traits to the next level.  I expect Malcom Jenkins to continue seeing a percentage of snaps as a cornerback in specific packages where Schwartz feels he can take advantage of the Jenkins versatility.

Chris Maragos is on the last year of his contract and is strictly a special team player.  Watching him on the field in 2015 as a safety was an image I don’t wish to see again.  I felt Ed Reynolds played half decent when provided the opportunity, but I see him as a solid 4th safety.

Round 5 (Pick 164) – (from the Pittsburgh Steelers)

Eagles Selection– Mike Thomas-WR-Southern Mississippi

The Eagles signed two veteran receivers (Randle and Givens) to add depth and experience to a shaky wide receiver group.  The contracts they gave out were only for one year, and third year starter Josh Huff is likely cut after the 2016 season if he doesn’t prove worthy of keeping him around.  Thomas has shown the ability to produce, but consistency and level of competition are big reasons for why he is slated to go day three of the draft.  In a draft where wide receivers are not as deep as in years past, taking a flyer on a guy like Thomas in the fifth round would be a low cost/high upside plan of attack by the Eagles brass.

Jeff’s Selection– Nick Kwiatkoski-ILB-WV

I worry a lot about depth at the linebacker position, and I envision the Eagles signing another veteran with Najee Goode as the next guy up if any of the projected starters were to miss time with an injury.  Kwiatkoski is the kind of football player that would excite Eagle fans, a relentless and tough style.  Kwiatkoski doesn’t possess the type of speed and athletic ability to be a productive player from side line to side line’ he is more of a downhill attack guy.

Round 6 (Pick- No. 188)

Eagles Selection– Yannick Ngakoue-DE- Maryland

Jeff’s Selection– Antwione Williams-OLB-Georgia Southern

Round 7 (Pick – No. 233)

Eagles Selection-Donavan Clark-OG-Michigan State

Jeff’s Selection– Trevone Boykin-QB-TCU

7th – No. 251 – (from the Arizona Cardinals)

Eagles Selection– Quentin Gause, OLB, Rutgers

Jeff’s Selection– Drew Ott-DE-Iowa

Eagles should seriously consider Jacoby Brissett as their 3rd string option, and future potential starter……

Other Current NC State Players around the NFL

CB David Amerson – decent comeback season with Raiders after failing with the Redskins
LB Audie Cole (Remember him Cliff from 3-4 Years Ago) that I liked as a late Round ILB, he’s playing for the Vikings and doing pretty well for them
Safety Earl Wolfe – now on Jaguars after Eagles Released him

LOL!!!!

Paul, those players you’ve mentioned say a lot about your taste in prospects, especially if you think Audie Cole plays well on special teams, and just mentioning Earl Wolfe – hilarious!!

These are Active Players inthe NFL from NC State, what purpose is it to mention players like Mike Quick/Torry Holt from years ago?

Safety Wolfe, LB Volewere 5th/6th Round Picksso the fact they are still evenActive onNFL Rosters is not badasbackup Players/Special Teams…
Each Team, even the SB Champs don’t have 53 Studs or All-Pros onthem.. You depth in your later Rounds/UDFA.. You should be able to develop these cheaper salariedPlayerson your own and not like the Eaglesthst have to even get Special Teams a Players via free-gency and pay more $$$’ for the Maragos, Braman, Sproles, Aijourutu, etc..

Besides, when did I say any of these NC Stste or UNC Players I listed earlier were “Good” or Stud Players? I simply listed Active Players off the top of my head from these Schools since Jeff brought it up to begin with and who suggested that Brissett to UNC instead of NC State

I can’t argue with you on that Jeff – There are no franchise QB’s in this draft.

However, I think some of them have the potential to, and that’s how Wentz, and Goff are going to be drafted based upon potential.

Wentz has passing skills, but unlike Flacco – who played Division I completion on a regular basis at Penn St – he wasn’t that highly regarded, even with all his accomplishments in Division II; honorable mention.

I don’t see an NFL QB in Jared Goff.

Brissett, Prescott, Cook, Hogan, and Lynch, all have just a much of a chance to become a franchise QB as Wentz, and Goff.

It’s not worth it to trade up to get either one of them. They should trade down for more draft picks, and get their developmental QB later in the draft.

The best selections of these Mocks IMO are, Vadal Alexander, and Antowoine Williams.

Jeff, with all due respect Ed Reynolds sucks, and should be cut. I have always felt he was a wasted draft pick by Chip whose bias for Pac 12 prospects – outside of Ertz – has for the most part compromised the talent on this team; He stinks.

But they need prospects to rush the QB, before they need a DT.

Eagles now have M Jenkins, R McLeod as Starters with backups J Couplin (who played in Detroit when Schwartz was there) C Maragos & E Reynolds

They also have J Watkins & L McKelvin who can line-up at Safety need be
Add a Draft Pick (Killibrew from Southen Utah or the kid from Clemson) and they are plenty set for backup Safeties

He’s a perfect release candidate.

Why waste roster space, when that roster spot could better serve the team with a more talented player?

I’m just trying to save you the heartbreak, Gloomy…
Chances are slim and none that you get Wentz and if slim came through and you somehow got him…you would still be very disappointed…the kid needs a few years of seasoning to be ready for the NFL…he has bust written all over him.

“he has bust written all over him.”

And you certainly know what that looks like as your last two #1 picked heros were two of the biggest busts in NFL draft history.

Look at the dreck from your two #1 selection losers:

Combined 18 years in the NFL

A pathetic 86 wins, 88 losses and two ties combined in 18 years
A dismal 82 games combined missed due to injury
A beyond pathetic 2 playoff wins in 18 years

Both NFL hall of famers in “excuses made for them” category.

Grouped with Carr, Couch and Russel in the “worst #1 overall” QB picks in NFL history.

Koolidiot’s favourites.

Ain’t nobody know what a “Bust” looks like more than Koolidiot. Nice avatar BTW.

“And you certainly know what that looks like as your last two #1 picked heros were two of the biggest busts in NFL draft history.”

Vinniedafoolass….you are a complete joke, fool, and an absolute idiot!

Your biggest QB heroes are Kevin Kolb and Nick Foles!!!!

You wanted us to tie ourselves to these dregs of QB play

These guys flat out stunk unconditionally..and you still insist you were ‘right’ about these bums!

Your main hero, your man crush…Nick Foles was so abysmal he has been benched and lost his starting job to that great All-Pro QB…Casey Keenum…LMAO…lost his starting job to him twice and Foles might not even make the Rams team next year…he may be humiliated and cut!

Kevin Kolb was a scared rabbit who was exposed as one of the most cowardly QB’s …defensive players noted how Kolb was petrified by a pass rush!! LMAO….

Great ‘footwork’ LMAO!!!!

You have no credibility at all Vinniedafoolass…none whatsoever

Remember how you marveled over Kevin Kolb’s footwork…LMAO…
