Mike Mayock Is Also In Love With Carson Wentz

It’s been reported numerous times that Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is love with North Dakota State quarterback prospect Carson Wentz, but he’s not the only one.  NFL Network Draft expert Mike Mayock who spends countless hours studying these draft picks, as well as talking to coaches, scouts and player personnel people throughout league, is also in love with Wentz.

Mayock explained to Philly.com’s Paul Domowitch, why he fell in love with the young signal caller.

“The more I’ve gotten to know the kid and talk to the people around him, the more I like him”, Mayock said. “I can watch all the tape I want and judge arm strength and physical running ability, which he has in spades. But it’s the intangibles at that position (that make the difference). And I’m getting a really positive feeling both with my interaction with him and also indirectly (talking to scouts) throughout the league.”

I tried to stress the fact that most of the NFL coaches and player personnel people that have come into contact with Wentz believe he has the intangibles, which take a very good quarterback and make him a franchise quarterback and eventually a champion.

“I took a bunch of crap for saying both Wentz and (Jared) Goff are in the conversation with (Marcus) Mariota and (Jameis) Winston,” Mayock went on to say.  “But I believe that. I believe all four of them are franchise quarterbacks. I don’t have any concerns about the level of competition that Wentz played. A bigger concern for me was that he started only 23 games. That made me a little bit nervous. But he erased that concern at the Senior Bowl. The fact that he has experience under center, called stuff at the line of scrimmage. He’s really good at the line of scrimmage and had complete freedom getting in and out of plays.”

This is a tremendous intangible in today’s NFL.  Only the better quarterbacks in the National Football League are given the freedom to run the offense from the line of scrimmage and Wentz was doing this in a Pro Style offense rather than a spread offense for the last couple of years.

“Even though he played in Division I-AA, that’s rare in today’s quarterback world”, Mayock continued. “Would I like for him to have an opportunity to play behind somebody for a while? Yeah. I mean I’d hate to see him get thrown in Day 1 in Cleveland and get his ass whooped out of the gate. (Joe) Flacco, who also came out of I-AA, only started 27 games in college and started every game as a rookie. But he had a run game and a defense.”

This is a glowing report from Mayock on Wentz, but former NFL head coach and quarterback guru Jon Gruden gave the same assessment of Wentz, after he worked with him a couple of days as they shot his “Gruden’s QB Camp” for ESPN.  Gruden said he wished he could coach the youngster from Bismarck, North Dakota.

You can also add my former Eagles teammate ESPN’s Ron Jaworski also spoke glowingly about Wentz and he emphasized his football acumen and the fact that he has been playing in a NFL-style offense for the last five years.  The fact that he’s been playing in a NFL-style offense with many of the same plays and reads, gives him a tremendous advantage over other young quarterbacks, who are coming into the league.

You can see why Pederson is so in love with this guy.  Unfortunately there are other teams in love with him as well and the Tennessee Titans are going to want a King’s Ransom to give up that first overall pick.

What’s all this “pro-style offence” talk?? KoolCan’ttakeitanymoreBreeze told me Wentz was a “one read and run” QB.

That’s weird.

What did they (Mayock,Gruden & Jaworski) all say about Sam Bradford…

Actually Mayock had four players ranked higher… About Bradford he said: “Bradford is very accurate and poised in the pocket, but his durability is a concern.”

After seeing Sam in his camp Jon Gruden said : “The guy he reminds me of talent-wise is Vinny Testaverde”… That’s not real high praise…. Also, in Bradford’s second year Gruden said he would give up on Bradford and draft Andrew Luck if he was the Rams GM…

There was not much to choose from in 2010 the year Bradford came out of school….Colt McCoy, Jimmy Clausen, Tim Tebow….

Yada, yada, yada…

Funny how selective we are in our appraisals. Ron Jaworski said about Sam Bradford:

ESPN NFL analyst and former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski says that Pederson earned high marks for naming Bradford the team’s starter, right out of the gate.

“It’s tremendous,” Jaworski told NJ Advance Media Friday at the Maxwell Football Club awards ceremony. “It’s tremendous when you are anointed ‘the man.’

“Sam Bradford played very well last year. In preparation from my quarterback big board that comes out in about another month, I went through every throw Sam Bradford made last season. When you look at 575 dropbacks, which I did, I saw a very rock-solid quarterback. He has very good accuracy. Good pocket movement. Good accuracy. I came to the conclusion before the Eagles signed Sam Bradford that they needed to re-sign him, and they did. They did a good job of getting it done.”
NJ.com

What did Gruden say about Bradford?

“I don’t think many people come across the road that can throw the ball like Sam Bradford. If this kid stays healthy and they can protect him…” Gruden also said:
“If Same Bradford gets protection, he can shred you real bad. He is a phenomenal passer.”

What did Mayock say about Sam Bradford?

“So I thought he was one of the most accurate quarterbacks I’ve ever seen on tape coming out of college,” he continued. “There’s no denying his arm strength and his accuracy. The only issue is durability, and it’s a significant one. So I think the Eagles rolled the dice a little bit and said we can protect him better. We’ve got a better offensive line and we’re gonna run the hell out of the ball, which is a quarterback’s best friend. And by the way, if he does get hurt, we’ve got [Mark] Sanchez which is effectively what we had last year between Foles and Sanchez, that level of quarterback play. So I think they took a shot and said we’re gonna get a little bit better with Bradford, and I applaud that.”

The Eagles in signing Chase Daniels..have guarded themselves against the legitimate concerns about Bradford’s injuries. Now what they need to do is to shore up the offensive line, get another running back…get more weapons around Sam….

Quarterback? Get a guy in the 4th or 5th round as a prospect that can possibly be groomed!

But we are going with Sam Bradford

Book it!

The Head Coach…the Quarteback Guru for the Eagles evaluated Sam Bradford last year and told us:

“Sam Bradford is a top-notch Quarterback”

The Eagles backed him up by giving him a contract $36 million with up to $26 million in guarantees!

Sam Bradford is the starting QB

Now this is the same Pederson who has all these great things to say about Wentz (although I have not seen a single direct quote…it’s all rumors…”Pederson loves Wentz”

Bullshit…means absolutely nothing

Jeez-us…that whole Philadelphia public school system coming into play once again. Honestly….can you read? Do you understand subtely? Inference?

Look closely at the quotes you selected……now look closer….

good, good, good, good, if, if, if, I think, I think
he was one of the…..in college…..
rolled the dice
took a shot
got a little bit better
guarded themselves
legitimate concerns

LOL

Oh and the “tremendous” bit? He’s not talking about the decision. He’s talking about the emotion one feels when being named the starter. You know, like when you got promoted to drive -thru.

You missed all that dumbass?? These guys offering the most guarded “praise” I’ve ever read.

You know when they’re straight out lying when they say some bullshit like:
““If Same Bradford gets protection, he can shred you real bad.”

Because it has never happened. I mean, ya…he ripped off 380 against a Giants team that had quit….he ripped off 300 on a couple other occasions – like against Arizona down 30, or Washington down 3 tds, or Atl down 20….if its the 4th and you’re down by 3 tds….well then….here comes the “shredding”. I guess that’s what Gruden is talking about. When the other D isn’t trying – Bradford can shred!!

Otherwise….Gruden can say “shred” all he wants – because when it counts – its never happened.

Koolbreeze, the question was, what did they say about Bradford when he was in the draft… Not what did they say last year….

Who gives a flying f*** how accurate Bradford is, or how good an arm he has… Not one person called him a winner. Because he’s not… He lacks all the intangibles that make a quarterback successful.

Every word they said about Bradford could be said about Jay Cutler too… Only Cutler has a stronger arm and is more accurate, and nobody wants him either.

Sam Bradford is a loser and the Eagles know it… That’s why they signed him to mid-level, short term contract. That’s why the owner still says “we will continue to search for a franchise quarterback”

Irish Eagle he was the consensus No#1 pick in the draft and everyone agreed about his skill set. ”

Your he lacks “intangible” argument is ridiculous!

Bullshit..he has all of the ‘intangibles’…what he lacked were skill players around him that could make plays.

I dont care how good you are at QB if Riley Cooper and Josh Huff are your starting wide receivers your “intangibles” wont mean shit!

Sam Bradford will be a winner if the Eagles put winning players around him, develop the defense, get a running game, upgrade the offensive line and wide receivers….its that simple…its not about “intangibles”…its about TANGIBLES…
If Sam Bradford was considered a ‘loser’ by the Eagles…they would have let him walk…like you, Vinniedaloser, and other Bradford haters wanted…

Accept the reality…the Eagles dont share your view…and when we follow the money its clear that they dont…Sam Bradford is the starting QB

They signed him to a Player-friendly, short term contract to allow him to prove that he can stay healthy…and if he stays healthy the short-term will turn into a long term massive deal. if he gets hurt again and misses significant time…he has been paid extremely well and we can move on with Chase Daniels while developing the QB we get in the 4th or 5th round. If the bottom fails out, we draft a QB next year…
But if we are successful and make the playoffs, Sam Bradford gets a massive raise has the franchise QB.

“Irish Eagle he was the consensus No#1 pick in the draft and everyone agreed about his skill set. ””

If he had been in the 2016 draft he’d have gone in the third round. Luckily for him he was in the weakest QB draft this century.
