Round 3, Pick #79, Paul Perkins

Paul Perkins

After the Eagles select their franchise quarterback with the second overall pick of the 2016 draft, it’s going to feel like an eternity until their next selection.  With Howie Roseman, it’s not impossible for the Eagles to trade up from their next scheduled pick at #79, but the scenario is highly unlikely.

There are several position groups that need help; all of them won’t be addressed.   With the six remaining selections the Eagles have after drafting Goff or Wentz, running back is one of the top positions of need.

Ryan Mathews is prone to missing games due to injury  Sproles and Barner are next up on the depth chart.  Pick #79 is a great position to add a play-maker that could be an immediate threat out of the backfield.

After Ezekiel Elliot, the next three down running back that I had my eyes on was Paul Perkins out of UCLA.  The Eagles have shown interest in Perkins, so it wouldn’t come as a surprise if they ended up drafting him.

His game has some Jamaal Charles and LeSean McCoy components with how shifty he can be at changing directions and making defenders miss.  The young man can catch the football and displays good patience allowing for his blockers to set up in front of him.  He gives tremendous effort as a pass blocker, but due to his size (listed at 5’10” and 208 pounds) he will need to improve his technique and add bulk up to handle NFL defenders.

If the Eagles end up waiting until day three of the draft to draft a running back, Kelvin Taylor (Florida) and Daniel Lasco (California) would be solid selections in the 5th round.

There is also a chance that Howie Roseman gets crafty, electing to go the route of trading a conditional pick in 2017 to obtain a running back.  Current Kansas City Chiefs running back Kniles Davis is a potential target to add veteran depth to the Eagles running back committee.   A conditional sixth round pick in 2017 should be enough to obtain the rights to the  running back currently listed as fourth on the depth chart.

It will be interesting to see what direction the Eagles end up going with their next pick after drafting a quarterback,  The selection of Paul Perkins would be a great move, adding a player who could contribute immediately as a rookie, and hopefully take over full running back duties next season.

Big fan of Paul Perkins. he would be a decent offensive weapon to run the ball and catch it out of the backfield.

Perkins is impressive and would be a good fit for the Eagles…
I am also thinking OLB with this 79th Pick which is a Position with not much Depth on the Eagles Roster as former OLB’s in the old 3-4 Scheme will all now be playing DE in Schwartz’s 4-3 .. So Brandon Graham, Connor Barwin and even Marcus Smith II will be Playing their Natural Positions as DE leaving the OLB Position very think

5 OLB’s that I like with this #79 Pick (3rd Round)
1) Jaylon Smith – NOtre Dame 6-2 225lbs (Will miss 2016 Season)
2) Josh Perry – Ohio State 6-4 255lbs
3) Jordan Jenkins – Georgia 6-3 260lbs
4) Kyler Fackrell – Utah St 6-5 245lbs
5) Yannick Ngakoue – Maryland 6-2 252lbs

5 RB’s I like at Pick #153/#164 (5th Round)
1) Daniel Lasco – Cal 6-0 209lbs (Versatile, Shifty, Great Receiver)
2) Kelvin Taylor – Florida 5-10 210lbs (Tough, Great Feet, Son of Fred Taylor)
3) Keith Marshall – Georgia 5-11 220lbs (Underrated and my Sleeper Pick, has had Injuries while in College)
4) Wendell Smallwood – West Virginia 5-10 208lbs (Explosive, Underrated)
5) Tyler Ervin 0 San Jose St 5-10 192lbs – (A 3rd Down Scat Back, Sproles Replacement on Special Teams too)

I would rather the Eagles get a OLB at #79 then use one of their Picks in the 5th Round to get a RB

Absolutely Diddy!!

Jaylen Smith would upgrade the overall talent on the Defense. It’s time to move on from average players that some count on to play over their heads. It’s time to get some real difference makers on Defense. I want the Eagles to get their hands on Noah Spence, Karl Joseph, Miles Killebrew, Ronald Blair, Antowoine Williams, and Javon Hargraves as well.

My choice at Running back is DeVontae Booker.

3) Willie Beavers – Western Michigan (6-5 320lbs)
4) Kyle Murphy – Stanford (6-6 305lbs)
5) Shon Coleman – Auburn (6-5 307lbs)

Those are some good players pman at RB I love that Cal running back lasco, reminds me of deuce, but cj procise is my guy, low thread on him and his instincts as a RB are off the charts, just needs to work on pass blocking, but already a good receiver with great size, 6 220

I meant to list CJ Prosise as well and who Projects as a 3rd/4th Round and should be on the Board and would be a nice Pick… hes a bit bigger then meets the eye at 6-0″ 220lbs.. There’s Alex Collins too from Arkansas whose more of a Thumper but CJ Prosise has nice Future ahead of him…

Eagles go from #79 in the 3rd Round and then have to Wait until the 5th Round for #153 & #164.. Maybe Howie will make some Deals to move on up
Rumors circulating that RB Darren Sproles could be Traded .. Maybe Send him and #164 to a Team to get back a 4th Round Pick (around #110-#125 Range)

Birds have to get OTs, youth.
From the outside not liking Jason Peters at all for quitting on the team last year, let alone trust his desire to play with any injury discomfort at age 34 this season, Birds have to get OTs. Would like to address this with 3rd rounder.
Pman is also correct that birds might want to add depth in the LB position. But the best player available might lead to DT being selected with the 3rd rounder.

Players reportedly sliding down the Big Draft Board due to Injuries Concern or Character Flaws

DL Joey Bosa (Ohio State) – Not very Bright & Arrogant, Did not Interview well per many Teams.. Some Scouts feel that’s he’s peaked athletically
LB Myles Jack (UCLA) – Knee Injury, may need Micro-Fracture Procedure
DE Shaq Lawson (Clemson) – Lingering Shoulder Issues
LB Leonard Floyd (Georgia) – Athletic Freak, Football IQ and Strength Issues
DT Robert Nkemdiche (Miss) – Legal Issues off the Field & Focus
(Athletically, He’s one of the Top 6 Players in the Draft)
LB Jaylon Smith (Notre Dame) – Knee Injury and Surgery to Miss 2016 Season (Would have been a Top 10 Pick if Healthy)
DE/OLB Noah Spence (Eastern Kentucky) – Off the Field Issues, probably the Best Pure Pass Rusher in the Draft

Players Moving Up the Big Board ..

LB – Darron Lee (Ohio State) Super Quick – With Health Issues to Jack & Smith is making him a more Safe Pick where he can Play right away

OT Jack Conkin (Mich St) Big, Strong and not far behind Ronnie Stanley per many Scouts..

CB – William Jackson III – Super Fast with Size (6-1 190lbs) Long Armed and probably the Best Ball-Hawk out of the CB Class with 5 Int’s and 12 Pass Break-Ups/Defended last Season, Played better when going against Top Teams..

Center – Ryan Kelly – Alabama – 6-4′ 315lbs – Big Strong and could be that Anchor that a Team is looking for at Center which is not a sexy Pick in the 1st Round, but could be an important Selection for a Team like the Colts, Redskins,Texans, Broncos who could all use a Top Center

DT – Vernon Butler – Louisiana Tech 6-4 323lbs – Big Strong, Great Feet and HAnds for a Player of his Size.. Turned down Scholarships from the SEC Schools to remain closer to home and play for LA Tech.. WIll be a real nice pick-up towards the end of the 1st Round (Packers,Cardinals, Seahawks, Broncos and Panthers)

WR Will Fuller – Notre Dame — With a lackluster WR Corp this Draft, Fuller with his Speed makes him more Valuable.. His Hands and Route Running are questionable but with hard work, good Coaching and Mentoring with Veterans, could turn into a Quality NFL WR

DT Kenny Clark – UCLA 6-3 315lbs – Another very Athletic Big Man who can play up and down the DL and get penetration and raise havoc in the backfield.. A Quality late 1st Round Selection for some Team

Safety Keanu Neal – Florida 6-0 211lbs – Very instinctive and Physical, more of a throwback Safety and not as Athletic and Strong in Pass-Coverages as you would like to see but with a pretty weak and thin Safety Class, Neal Stands out in Terms of being able to play down in the Box , protecting the middle of the field and being a Special Teams demon..

OT/Guard – Germain Ifedi – Texas A&M 6-6 324lbs — Played Both OT and Guard in College and has long wing-span, good feet and solid fundamentals to play either Position at the NFL Level (more of a RT) but his Versatility and Size will make him a Valuable Selection for some Teams at the end of the 1st Round (Chiefs,Seahawks,Panthers,Broncos are all looking for OL Help)

HOT TAKE ALERT

Here’s the thing about Sam Bradford: He’s a bust.

That’s what Colin Cowherd had to remind everyone about in the aftermath of the past week, when the Philadelphia Eagles traded up for the No. 2 pick in the draft, Bradford got mad and demanded a trade, and the Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos expressed interest but decided the price was too steep.

With Bradford, the price always has been too steep, starting with the record $50 million in guaranteed money he made as the No. 1 pick in 2010.

This offseason he signed a two-year, $35 million deal ($22 million guaranteed, plus an $11 million signing bonus). Now he wants out. But who would take his contract?

No one, Cowherd says. And here’s why.

“Sam Bradford has been paid like an American star quarterback. So it skews our perception. All he is is a well-compensated bust,” Cowherd said on “The Herd” on Tuesday.

If you look at Bradford’s stats (78 TDs, 52 INTs, 24 fumbles, 60.1% comp., 81.0 rating, 25-37-1 W-L), they’re similar to the stats of another first-round pick who’s considered a bust:

Josh Freeman (81/68/38, 57.6, 77.6, 25-36).

“People think knee injuries have derailed Bradford’s career. No, they’ve just masked it,” Cowherd said. “He’s average. He’s an injury-prone, turnover-plagued bust.”

Bradfords fate is sealed… if he really wanted to be a competitor and ultimately a franchise QB he needed to suck it up and play lights out, shut up– i guarantee the eagles defense at minimum is not on his side– my guess the offense will fall in line–

I don’t get why you are blasting Sam Bradford.
No one in the city really wanted him last year.
Certainly no one wanted him resigned this year then giving the fans the ole… “He gives us the best chance to win now,” nauseating line after they signed Daniels and traded up to the second overall pick.
Jeff Lurie is the turd and so is his boy toy Howie. We are supposed to pat Howie on the back again ” Atta-boy” Howie for trading Sam Bradford away. Or great job Howie for standing your ground and not acquiescing to Sam Bradford trade demands. Jeff Lurie is a turd for signing the trade papers last year for Bradford and a double turd for signing the contract extension papers this year. And since Howie says every move this off season really counts in the accountability department this time, Howie needs to be blasted. I feel like pushing Jeff Lurie’s head in Sam Bradford’s excrement then flushing the toilet for signing the best chance to win now Sam Bradford again.

Ok you are right — quite a few of Howie’s moves I like, some you mention above. I like OG Brooks and the #2 QB draft pick move for Wentz & some of Howie’s young core being extended like Ertz and Johnson. But I hate the Pederson, Schwartz, Daniels, Bradford, & Curry signings.

I hate your hate signings also except for Bradford and Daniels but you gotta shape ur roster… And there was no guarantee we r getting wentz when Daniels and bradturd were signed. And there were no other qbs. I guess we could’ve said by to Sam and kept Sanchez. Idk the qb moves had to be made at the time. Hiring pederson the high school coach and librarian sucked

best rookie player in the 2016 NFL Season pre draft prediction.
Notre Dame OT Stanley on offense.

Defense – CB William Jackson for the Raiders (4 Int’s) & DE Kevin Dodd for the Panthers (9 Sacks) , ILB Reggie Ragland for the Redskins – (Day 1 Starter, Lots of Tackles and a 3 Down LB that they have been struggling for)

He (Ragland) will have improve pass-coverage skills as all LB’s need to do as they transition from College Ball to the NFL.. He’s athletic, quick and physical enough to handle the inside zone area between the numbers…but obviously is not going be covering today’s athletic TE’s 20-30 yards down the field which most ILB in the NFL are able to do too well..
I don’t think he will be a bust at all, I expect him to make the All-Rookie Team and contribute nicely to whatever Team Drafts

another Heisman to NFL bust ? That is some big names in your bust area. I like Hargraves the most out of your bust quartet. I’m skeptical if Ragland can succeed in the nickle out of your stars. i like Elliot the best of your stars especially in a pass first offense like McNabb’s Eagles teams or current Brady’s Pats

Gotta do some edits Paul:

NJ.com reports the Giants are no longer considering UCLA LB Myles Jack for the 10th overall pick.
It’s back to the drawing board for New York. The Giants were reportedly one of the few teams not concerned with Jack’s knee but it appears they’ve had a change of heart. Jack’s admission that he might need microfracture surgery at some point didn’t help his cause. The Giants didn’t work Jack out during the pre-draft process so maybe they were never that interested. Regardless, the team’s decision to remove him from their board completely is a huge red flag. Jack may have to wait longer than expected to hear his name called Thursday night. Apr 27 – 7:38 PM

Also Floyd is going top 20

I do see the Dolphins looking to move up to #8 and trade with the BRowns so that they can Draft RB Zeke Elliot if he’s still on the Board, and I can see the Titans at #15 looking to move up to Draft OT Tunsil if he Drops a little

Maybe the 49ers (Who have 12 Picks) Trade back into the late 1st Round to grab a QB instead of waiting until the 7th Pick of the 2nd Round

Should be an exciting evening for the Players, Teams and Fans…
I think the Eagles & Roseman will be busy Friday/Saturday making some Deals to move up into the Mid-Rounds

Myles Jack and Shaq Lawson could very well drop to later in the1st Round
as I indicated earlier that many Teams are concerned about their Health Status
(Jack with Knee and Lawson with Shoulder)

Giants will look for an Edge Rusher (OLB) and if its not Myles Jack
then they will look at Leonard Floyd or Noah Spence who both have some “maturity” issues but are healthy and can contribute right away …
The Giants at #10, would be smarter to go after a Safer Pick, OT Jack Conklin, as they have open OT positions along their OL that they need to address…

THIS ISNT GOOD FOR JACK IMO

UCLA LB Myles Jack (knee) admits that it’s possible he’ll eventually have to undergo microfracture surgery.
“It’s nothing extreme,” Jack said on the issue of his degenerative knee condition. “Down the line, possibly, I could have microfracture surgery—potentially. Who knows what will happen?” He added that “to play three years in this league would be above average.” If Jack is guilty of anything here, it’s of saying too many words. This quote contains no new information, but it’s being read as a sort of smoking gun by some in the media. What we think Jack is saying is this: “Yes, my odds of having microfracture surgery are higher than an average prospect’s. But that procedure is entirely hypothetical. It may not happen at all. But if it does, that surgery will happen after I’ve given multiple years of tremendous value to my next team on my rookie contract.” Apr 27 – 7:22 PM
