Notes From The Phillies’ 4-3 Win Over Atlanta

The Philadelphia Phillies won their second straight game on Friday night, taking down the Braves 4-3. Their record improves to 7-9.

On The Mound

  • It was another solid showing from Jeremy Hellickson, who anchored the team through seven solid innings, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out five.
  • Hellickson gave up one run in the fourth, and a solo homer to Freddie Freeman in the eighth.
  • Joaquin Benoit pitched a scoreless eighth.
  • Hector Neris ran into some trouble in the ninth, allowing a run on three hits, but held on to record his second save.

At The Plate

  • The offense managed four runs on 11 hits.
  • Cesar Hernandez broke out of his slump, going 3-4 with a double and scoring two runs.
  • Aaron Altherr went 2-4 with an RBI-double in the third.
  • Odubel Herrera went 1-4, dropping his average to .263.
  • Maikel Franco went 0-3 with a walk, but did manage to drive in an insurance run in the seventh.
  • Michael Saunders went 1-4 with a double.
  • Tommy Joseph picked up an RBI, going 1-4.
  • Freddy Galvis singled home a run in the second inning.
  • Cameron Rupp went 2-4 with a double.

Final Thoughts

Holding on to Jeremy Hellickson past last year’s trade deadline may come to really pay off for the Phillies.

Hellickson is off to a tremendous start to the season. He’s 3-0 with an ERA of just 1.88 after his first four starts. He’s given up four hits or less in each of his last three appearances. He’s gone seven frames in his last two.

While he may not sustain this level throughout the entire season, there’s no reason to believe he won’t be a very attractive trade piece this summer, much more so than he was a year ago.
