Notes From The Phillies’ 7-0 Loss To St. Louis

The Philadelphia Phillies lost their fourth straight game on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Cardinals 7-0. Their record drops to 21-39.

On The Mound

  • Nick Pivetta got the start, and lasted five innings, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks.
  • All of Pivetta’s runs came around to score in the fourth inning.
  • In seven starts, Pivetta has yet to pitch more than five innings.
  • Jeanmar Gomez checked in during the sixth, and put the game out of reach by allowing the Cardinals to tack on three more runs.
  • Gomez has a completely wretched ERA of 8.20.
  • Luis Garcia mopped up with two scoreless innings.

At The Plate

  • The offense failed to score a single run.
  • Tommy Joseph generated two of the team’s four hits, including a double.
  • With Cesar Hernandez now on the disabled list, Odubel Herrera hit in the leadoff spot, and went 1-4 with a single.
  • Andres Blanco started at second, and went 1-3 with a single.
  • Aaron Altherr went 0-3 with three strikeouts.
  • Maikel Franco turned in yet another 0-4.
  • Cameron Rupp and Freddy Galvis each went 0-3.

Final Thoughts

The league’s worst offense may only be getting worse.

Cesar Hernandez had been one of the few consistent hitters in this lineup, and with him out of the picture for at least a week and a half, its going to mean that Howie Kendrick will likely get most of the starts at second base, meaning more playing time for Michael Saunders and his completely underwhelming average.
