Notes From The Phillies’ 9-2 Loss To Arizona

The Philadelphia Phillies had their tw0-game winning streak snapped on Saturday night, falling to the Diamondbacks 9-2. Their record drops to 24-49.

On The Mound

  • Ben Lively took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) over 5.1 innings.
  • Lively was pitching well until things came apart in the sixth inning.
  • Hoby Milner made his debut in the sixth, and allowed a run on two hits and a walk.
  • Edubray Ramos recorded one out, and gave up a run in the seventh.
  • Adam Morgan was lit up for two runs over 1.1 innings of work.

At The Plate

  • The managed just two runs, both coming off of a home run from Ben Lively in the fourth inning.
  • Cameron Perkins continues to bat leadoff, and continues to struggle, going 0-4. Perkins is hitting just .105.
  • Freddy Galvis went 2-4 out of the two hole with a couple of singles.
  • Aaron Altherr went 1-4 with a single.
  • Tommy Joseph went 0-2 with two walks.
  • Maikel Franco went 0-3.
  • Andres Blanco made another start at second and went 0-4.
  • Odubel Herrera hit seventh, and went 1-3 with a single.
  • Cameron Rupp went 0-2 with two walks.

Final Thoughts

I’m not sure why the Phillies are giving Cameron Perkins starts every day.

Perkins has just two hits in 19 at-bats, and hasn’t shown anything to inspire that he might be something at the major league level. Meanwhile, other outfield prospects that have a chance to be something like Nick Williams continue to play in the minor leagues.

I can understand the Phillies not wanting to call up some of their legitimate prospects in order to avoid starting the clock on their service time, but they really need to start seeing what they have.
