Notes From The Phillies’ 6-1 Loss To Arizona

The Philadelphia Phillies lost their third straight game on Monday afternoon, falling to the Diamondbaks 6-1. Their record drops to 24-51.

On The Mound

  • Rough outing for Nick Pivetta, who lasted just 2.2 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits and five walks.
  • Adam Morgan, turned in a rare scoreless outing, eating 3.1 frames without allowing further damage.
  • Morgan has just four scoreless efforts in nine appearances this season.
  • Hoby Milner pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and striking out two.
  • Ricardo Pinto, just called up to replace gascan Edubray Ramos, pitched a scoreless eighth.

At The Plate

  • The offense once again managed just one miserable run.
  • Daniel Nava provided the team’s lone RBI, going 2-3 with a walk out of the leadoff spot.
  • Freddy Galvis went 0-3 with a walk.
  • Aaron Altherr went 1-4 with a single.
  • Maikel Franco hit out of the cleanup spot, and went 1-4 with a single.
  • Odubel Herrera also went 1-4 with a single.
  • Brock Stassi got a start at first for Tommy Joseph, going 0-3 with a walk.
  • Andrew Knapp caught the game, and went 0-4.

Final Thoughts

After two strong starts that saw him go seven scoreless against Boston, and strike out 10 in a win last week, Nick Pivetta came back down to earth in this start, getting hit early and often before getting the early hook.

On the positive front, the Phillies mercifully sent Edubray Ramos to the minor leagues. Ramos, who posted an 0-7 mark with a 5.25 ERA had been an absolute disaster this season. He had been a textbook gascan, and it was a move long overdue to get him away from the majors for a little while.
