An Early 53-Man Roster Projection

Quarterbacks (2): Carson Wentz, Nick Foles

I think Matt McGloin is likely here just to be a camp arm, but if he impresses he’s got a chance to stick as the third quarterback.

Running Back (4): LeGarrette Blount, Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood, Donnel Pumphrey

No surprises here.

Wide Receiver (5): Alshon Jeffrey, Torrey Smith, Jordan Matthews, Mack Hollins, Nelson Agholor

It causes me great pain that Nelson Agholor likely makes this roster again. Shelton Gibson has a chance to make the club, but he’s got to improve dramatically from what he was in the Minicamp.

Tight End (3): Zach Ertz, Trey Burton, Brent Celek

Status quo here.

Offensive Line (10): Jason Peters, Chance Warmack, Isaac Seumalo, Brandon Brooks, Lane Johnson, Stefan Wisniewski, Halapoulivaati Vaitai, Alan Barbre, Jason Kelce, Josh Andrews

The one thing that’s been a real shocker to me is that the Eagles are still planning to go into the season with Jason Kelce as the starting center. The moves to bring back Stefan Wisniewski and sign Chance Warmack seemed to indicate that they were preparing either Wisniewski or Isaac Seumalo to take over in the middle, but that just hasn’t happened. Maybe a trade still happens, but Kelce appears to be the guy.

Defensive Line (9): Brandon Graham, Vinny Curry, Chris Long, Derek Barnett, Fletcher Cox, Timmy Jernigan, Destiny Vaeao, Elijah Qualls, Steven Means

Marcus Smith will not be an Eagle in 2017. It’s just a matter of when. Steven Means is a bubble guy, but could stick with another strong camp.

Linebackers (6) : Jordan Hicks, Mychal Kendricks, Nigel Bradham, Najee Goode, Joe Walker, Nate Gerry

I’m surprised the Eagles didn’t make more of an effort to do something with the linebackers. I’m shocked Mychal Kendricks is still here, given his reduced role and how poorly he seemed to mesh with defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Depth is just as concerning here as it was a year ago.

Cornerbacks (6): Patrick Robinson, Jalen Mills, Ron Brooks, Rasul Douglas, Aaron Grymes, C.J. Smith

Sidney Jones starts the year on the PUP list. I’m really curious to see how Smith and Grymes have developed since last season, and if they can push for playing time. It’s alarming that Patrick Robinson and Ron Brooks are the only veterans in this group.

Safeties (5): Malcolm Jenkins, Rodney McCleod, Terrence Brooks, Chris Maragos, Jaylen Watkins

I think Terrence Brooks takes away the third safety role from Jaylen Watkins. Watkins could well find himself on the final cuts, but his ability to play either safety or corner could buy him another season.

Specialists (3): Caleb Sturgis, Donnie Jones, Jon Dorenbos

What else is new?
