Kyle Pitts, wishing you were here

Triaphilia is the official name of the superstition that bad things do come in threes. D.K. Metcalf, Justin Jefferson and now Kyle Pitts, Super Bowl contending franchises do not allow this pattern to get this far.  I predict Pitts to be available at pick 6, mock drafts are always trumped by the most important position in football, and several teams need a starting quarterback.  Without the normal combines and pro days, the trade talk discussions are increasing, first round trades have already been made and there are several more to come.

I see a record setting ‘four quarterbacks’ taken in succession to begin the 2021 NFL Draft.  Despite internal discussions for the Atlanta Falcons to use the 4th pick overall on a quarterback, they will ultimately  trade down, load up on assets and elect to take a future signal caller on day 2, where a guy like David Mills from Stanford could learn from veteran Matt Ryan.   I see Atlanta trading down in the draft for a few reasons.  The first is having Tom Brady in their division who has several years on Matt Ryan.  It’s not only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers riding the coat tails of an older veteran quarterback, the Saints did so with Brees until his retirement this past offseason, the Steelers are doing so with Big Ben and the Colts made the attempt last season with Rivers.  There is also the changes occurring in the NFC South, the Panthers and Saints will have new starting quarterbacks in 2021, both technically on a one-year deal.  There is no reason for the Falcons to move on from Ryan, they have offensive pieces in place and their defense played respectively after firing Dan Quinn last season.  The Falcons need to add youth to their roster as they have their own salary cap issues.  After answering calls from several teams inquiring about a trade, the Falcons can turn their attention to players at #9 after their trade with the Denver Broncos.  The Falcons At #9 can select one of the top two cornerbacks or elect to dip back into the Alabama receiving pool to replenish the vacancy left by veteran Julio Jones who will have a new home in the AFC with a team like the Patriots or Colts before the start of training camp.

The Broncos drafted wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler with consecutive picks to start the 2020 draft, they have veteran running back Melvin Gordon, and opened their pockets to sure up the defensive secondary in free agency. John Elway is exhausted from years of finding a replacement to Peyton Manning, and has bared witness to the youth movement at quarterback in the division with Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert.  The Broncos will have their choice of Justin Fields or Mac Jones with the San Francisco 49ers electing to go with the athletic upside of Trey Lance at pick #3.

Could the Cincinnati Bengals draft Kyle Pitts?  They certainly could, but Ja’Marr Chase is going to the Cincinnati at pick #5.  Reuniting quarterback Joe Burrow with his former teammate under new tiger stripes is one way to keep the face of the franchise smiling. (It will also keep fantasy football owners smiling who pair these two in the later rounds of their draft). The Bengals invested a 2019 2nd round pick on tight-end Drew Sample and could always nab Hunter Long out of Boston College this year in the 2nd round if they feel they need to upgrade at the position group.  Penei Sewell is a franchise left tackle and will be hard to pass up, but the Bengals were thinking the same about Jonah Williams selecting him 11th overall in 2019.   The Bengals depending on their comfort at tight-end could address the future at the offensive tackle position with veteran Riley Reiff only guaranteed a paycheck in 2021 and offensive tackle being a well stocked position group, day one starters will be selected in the third and fourth rounds.

When the Miami Dolphins select Kyle Pitts at the Eagles former #6 pick, it’s going to sting; however the real pain will be watching the weekly highlights and picturing how it would have all looked sporting the midnight green.

  1. TE Kyle Pitts Will be a Stud, no doubt.. Put him on any Team with any QB and he will be a tremendous target and weapon and make that QB and Offense better and much harder to Defend..
Pitts would be the Only Receiver Player I would select in the Top 10,
J Chase, J Waddle and D Smith I would not select early in this Draft as I’m not sure their Value is worth a Top 10 Pick.. I just don’t like the Value of taking a WR this early in the Draft, but Pitts is a whole other animal and can play anywhere and be a effective as a Weapon
I see the Falcons Selecting him at #4 but they could very well Trade Down to a QB Needy Team

I think the Top #3 Starts as follows
    1) Jags – QB Lawrence
    2) Jets – QB Z Wilson
    3) 49ers – QB T Lance

The Draft really starts at Selection #4 with what the Falcons do, as they have Matt Ryan under Contract for 2 more Seasons at BIG $$$ which he would be difficult to Trade due to Dead $$ associated to his Deal
With QB Fields and M Jones still on the Board and Teams like the Broncos,Patriots, Bears and even to a lesser extent, the Eagles, Panthers, Washington, Steelers as Teams who may be looking at adding a QB Prospect this Draft..

Should be a Wild Top 10 Selections with Trades Potentials in and out for the 1st Round with the Falcons, Detroit,Carolina and Denver, Dallas, Eagles,Patriots, Bears and Washington and others and then should settle out in terms of staying Put and Drafting by their Boards

  2. Interesting Paul that you now hold a more eagle like view of draft rating. As a poster cataloged on here WR drafted high are not franchise changers. That said it’s impossible to point which direction they go.
I’ve always gotten pissy with the fake GMs on here claiming to know who to draft..basic stating that anyone can go on the internet, read draft reports etc and come up with a mock. Interesting article on BGN stating that in reality a GM could do the same thing (fire their own scouts) read all the info that other people compile and make ur picks.

    1. I’ve never been a Supporter of Drafting a WR in the Top Half of the 1st Half, if you can recall many of my past Mocks , there are just a o many Misses at the WR Position that are Drafting in the 1st Round over the Years
and with the Deep WR Classes of recent years, you can Draft Quality WR prospects in the
2nd,3rd and 4th Rounds as we see every Year
As an Offense in Today’s Happy Passing NFL
I’d rather have 3-4 Quality WR’s than 1 True Stud at the Position…
The Game of Football and Super Bowls is still Won in the Trenches (Both OL ad DL) and the Ability to Run the Ball Effectively when it matters the most and protecting your QB
When an Offense has this going, a good, accurate, sound decision maker , smart QB can Win, without this it’s difficult to Win in the NFL
Going against Good Defenses and Good DC’s
as we saw first hand last Super Bowl as the Bucs do in gated both sides of the line of scrimmage for most of the Game

      1. It’s always the line. That is why I’m not overly concerned about the eagles season last year. With the disaster of the OL there was no running an offense…it was impossible. So healthy OL and playoffs.

        1. Still need the QB and Receiver Group to be efficient and productive…
Sanders is another Player who has to prove to me that he’s durable and consistent enough to be a true #1 RB
I like the young WR Group they have and I believe with better Coachibg, play Calling and overall scheme will help this Current WR Corps to be production
I’ve stated all off-season consistently that this Draft should be about upgrading the Back 7 of this Eagles Defense
3 of their top 4 Selections should be CB’s, Safety and LB and also add an interior OL
As they gave enough quality OT’s on the Roster if they remain healthy but lacking in Depth at Guard/Center

          1. Historically QBs aren’t productive with a terrible OL…. for reference please watch a tape of the last SB dummy

    1. Why would you do that? Makes very little sense to fire the GM at this juncture… he put together a champ let’s see if he can again.

    2. Going to the Sixers game. A team contending for a title hunt and the thing that geeks u up the most is the fire howie chant? Lmfao

Hate to break it to you but Sixers fans don’t care about howie roseman or any of that caring about suits on another team. If there’s a fire howie chant at Sixers tonight it will be you chanting it all by yourself

      1. Are there Still 76ers Fans in Philly ?
        How Many ?
Greater or Less than 20,000 People?

        1. Nah there’s zero Sixers fans. The entire city loves bum ass Phillies, flyers and Eagles. They hate winners.

          1. Winners? What have they won in the last 10 Years ?
2-3 First Round Playoff Series where half the Teams of the NBA make the Post-Season
            No Thanks

            1. Sixers have been to one conference final since 83… they are a losing organization…. they lost on purpose for like five years…you can’t help but be a loser when you actively try to lose.
As currently constructed they do t have much hope of a championship run…. half court offense with only 4 players is difficult

            2. No thanks yet u got all the time in the world writing draft analysis for a shit Eagles team on a blog 3 people read lol

  3. I love how casuals blame howie for passing n dk Metcalf as if it was negligence…

The entire league passed on the guy and most teams passed on him twice. But yea let’s blame howie. SMH

    1. It was a risk Seattle took and it paid off…kudos to them. Eagles tried with Jones and it didn’t…nfl execs come to work In big boy pants. No guts,no glory.

    2. DK Metcalf had Injury/medical concerns on his neck and half the NFL took Him off their Draft Boards just like many Teams will pass on CN Caleb Farley ..
Each Team has their own threshold on Medicals and Character Issues and the Eagles have been pretty consistent with their approach to these areas of their Evaluations
The Action/Final Result is to Draft some other Quality Player … it’s this simple

  4. I never understood why grown men who earn a living would chant for the firing of another grown man. It seems like petty jealousy that the man they want fired makes more money, has a hotter wife, has the job the chanter thinks he can do better, has a job the chanter could not get in a million years! One can only assume the chanters are shallow unfulfilled types.

  5. The offense needs more juice. Waddle could really ignite things on that side of the ball. Agree with Paul that we need major upgrades on the D’s back 7. Without more talent, this D could be historically bad. If they can hit on an elite edge rusher, that would be my preference-but not sure there’s one in this draft, We need to find an upgrade over Barnett, who will be stealing money again this year. I just hope Howie doesn’t pull some jackass maneuver like last year in rounds 1, 2, and 3.

  6. Sixers up 30. Nothing for fans to care about really as game is out of reach and not one fire howie chant. Who would’ve thought

  7. I’m officially on board with going heavy on defense…offense in the last couple years- hurts, Dillard, Reagor, Goddert and JJAW… they have to perform.
Rebuild the defense… need to have a draft like the Lito draft (02?)…Lito, Lewis, Sheldon

  8. Last 4 years… and some dummies are panicked about the eagles:
    Eagles 6 playoff games
    Saints 7 playoff games
    Patriots. 7 playoff games
    Packers 4 playoff games
Chiefs 9 playoff games ..why did we fire big red
    Steelers 2 playoff games

Eagles are fine… playing in the post season is what as for a successful season…. extra games are great

    1. Eagles r shit. We r in rebuild. Void of talent everywhere including quite possibly qb. But if u think last 4 years have anything to do with Jack or shit good on ya

  9. Eagle Trade Rumors I’m making up

Eagles Send the #12th Overall Pick in the 2021 Draft to the Cleveland Browns for WR Odell Beckham Jr and their #26 Overall Pick and their 3rd Round Pick (#132)

OBJ has 3 Years left on his Contract at $15 Million a Season, so the Eagles will need to Trade both Ertz and probably an OL like Dillard or Suemalo or B Brooks to clear some Cap Space to make this work and to fit under the 2021 Cap unless both Fletcher Cox and Lane Johnson Restructure their Deals which they both refused to do so earlier this off-season per Sources

I am not big fan of OBJ and never have been, but GM Howie is looking to make a Splash Move to help this Offense and also to show the NFL that he’s back to making Deals and has always coveted OBJ as a Player

We will see other Deals but this Trade above will be one of the Top Stories of the 1st Round

Browns at #12 Select LB M Parsons
Eagles at #26 Select LB JOK of Notre Dame

    1. Trade #2 by Howie occurs Friday night on the 2nd Night of the Draft

Eagles Send 3rd Round PIck (#84), 6th Round Pick (#224) and TE Zach Ertz to the Jaguars for their early 3rd Round Pick (#65)

After these 2 Trades, the Eagles have the Following Selections in the first 5 Rounds

      1st – #26 – LB JOK (Notre Dame 6-1 228lbs) a Pass Coverage Specialist LB
      2nd – #37 – CB Tyson Campbell (Georgia 6-2 185lbs)
      3rd – #65 – TE Kevin Long (Boston College 6-5 256lbs)
      3rd – #70 – OL Liam Eichenburg (Notre Dame 6-6 305lbs)
      4th – #123 – WR Josh Palmer (Tennessee 6-2 210lbs)
      4th – #132 – CB Keith Taylor (Washington 6-3 196lbs)
      5th – #150 – Safety Richard LeCounte (Georgia 5-11 200lbs)

Eagles use their 6th and 7th Round Picks for RB, Developmental QB, a Kicker or Punter, DL/LB Depth

      1. If QB Jalen Hurts plays well and shows improvement in 2021, then the Eagles can look to use
2 of their 3 First Round Picks in 2022 and address the DL as it appears it will be a deeper and more Talented Class as opposed to this upcoming Draft
If Jalen Hurts does not play well or show improvement then the Eagles will have the Address the QB Position next Off-Season and Drafat and will have the Draft Capital ammunition to do so which is why they Traded from #6 down to #12 this Year to give them that safety cushion if Hurts doesn’t work out which was the smart way to go for the Organization moving forward

IF you go with the Above Trades and Draft above the Eagles could look like

        Offense –
QB – Hurts,Flacco and late Draft Pick or UDFA
RB – Sanders, Howard, Scott and a Draft PIck
WR – OBJ, Reagor, Fulgham, Watkins, Ward and a Battle between JJAW,Hightower and Draft Pick Palmer
TE – Goedart, Long and one of the Young Players (Croom, Wilson, etc) or possibly Re-Sign Richard Rodgers
        OL – Dillard,Mailata, Suemalo,Kelce, Brooks,LJ, Herbig, Driscoll and a Draft Pick (Center/Guard)

        Defense
DT – Cox, Hargrave, Ridgeway, R Williams or TY McGill
DE – Graham,Barnett, Sweat, Ostman and a Draft Pick
LB – Singleton, Wilson, TJ Edwards, Avery, Taylor and Draft Pick JOK
CB – Slay, Campbell, Maddox, James, Taylor and Jaquette
Safety – Harris, Adams, Wallace, LeCounte, Epps – (McLeod starts Season on PUP)

    2. Clearly ur not paying attention. We are rebuilding yaidiot therefor not buying ass diva wr

      1. Howie can’t help himself,
He wants a flashy name out of this Draft Weekend, Browns want OBJ Gone as they are building a good thing there and don’t need or want his baggage and Salary
OBJ is the perfect X Receiver that’s out there and can make this Offense go that they don’t currently have and Waddle/D Smith are Z receivers which is what Reagor and Watkins are i
OBJ still only 27 and I’m not a proponent of this acquisition at all, but feel Howie is going to do something like this but will needs to move a big name Pkayer (Brooks) to free up space for OBJ oversized Contract

        1. “ Howie can’t help himself”

Nah you can’t help yourself. You think you have a clue and you have less than zero clue. You’re a clown. Time for a new hobby yaidiot

      2. It’s just throwing monkey shit against the wall….it’s a 58 year old lonely man saying “hey look at me”

  10. Panthers Trade QB Tedy Bridgewater to the Denver Broncos for a 6th Round Draft Pick in 2021 Draft
Panthers also agree to Pay $7 Million of Bridgewater’s $10 Million Guarantee for 2021
Relevance to the Eagles is that now the Broncos are very unlikely to Select a QB at 9 and will likely take a CB Surtain or Horn or possibly a OL or maybe LB Parsons, but either way, its another Position off the Board that could have fallen to the Eagles that now is less likely

Both Panthers at #8 and now Broncos at #9 have upgraded their QB Position even if its short Term an are more likely to select Position Players if they stay with their Selections

  11. Eagles will now sit tight at #12 and Select QB
Justin Fields as it’s starting to look like no other Teams in the Top 10 want him.. Quarterback Factory, Here we come !!
Howie will say after the Selection
“We had a good idea that the Board was going to fall this way and Fields was our highest rated player available and we could not in good conscience pass on a Player we feel can be a special talent in this League and for our Organization”

  12. Trade Alert

Eagles Trade #12, #84 and TE Ertz along with a
2022 2nd Round Draft Pick to the Carolina Panthers for #8th Overall Pick

At #8 the Eagles Select QB Justin Fields of Ohio State

At #12 the Panthers Select OL Rashawn Slater of Northwestern
