At the same time, the players association refuses to acknowledge that their share of the pie has grown immensely.

Mike Florio wrote a very good article on SportingNews.com about what the situation is surrounding the collective bargaining agreement.

There are 3-4 franchises that are hurting financially, no doubt.. Jaguars,Raiders failed to seel out many home games this season as did Chargers,St Louis Rams, the Titans,Bucs,Dol phins and Panthers.. Take in account that some of these smaller market teams don't have the ancillary revenues that a big city team has in Merchandising,L ocal TV and Radio contracts and advertising $$$
It's no wonder that the league as a whole is struggling like most other industries..
I think they need to eliminate 2-4 franchises
(1 to 2 from each conference) in stages
Eliminate Jaguars,Buffalo ,probably the Rams and maybe the Raiders and do some realignment
Go with 2 Divisions in each conference (an East & West or North & south with 7 teams each each playing each team twice (home and away)giving you 12 games
then shorten the pre-season to 3 games and play 6 other games.. 2 from the other Division in the Saeme conference and 4 from the other Conference based on prior years standings

32 teams is the right breakdown

However- Some teams may need to move location. NY state has 3 teams and could probably do with Buffalo moving. San Fran or San Diego and Oakland make no sense One could probably go.
Jacksonville makes no sense and could go

However profit sharing was introduced to get around some of this

I think similar in All the Professional Sports these days that too many teams has watered-down the talen level across the leagues. Look at the NFl.. 2-3 good teams in Each Conference, 5-6 prettey good teams in the conference and 5-6 pretty bad teams. The level of play across the board is not what it used to be.. Same with the NBA,NHL and MLB..

They better get it together and get an agreement that all parties can agree to like
a 50%-50% split on revenues, If not, I would expect a very slow Free-agency Market (a lot of 1 years deals for players) and a good possiblity of many holdouts from the 1st Round
    Draft selections..
If there is a year to trade down and out of the 1st Round, this is the year to do it.
If there is a year not to pursue big-name free-agents and or sign anoyone to long-term deals, than this is the off-season to sit along the sidelines, which is exactly what I think the Eagles will do this off-season
These owners are not dumb and will get together with the "unspoken word" of keeping salaries, bonues ,guaranteed $$$ to a minimum..
