I was concerned about Eagles defensive end Trent Cole before the training camp because I didn’t see a place where he fit into the Eagles future plans. Cole is very strong for his size, but he’s a 4-3 defensive end, not a linebacker and he’s not a 3-4 defensive end.
“We’re trying different things,” Cole said [...]

The Eagles are doing their homework now and will continue to do their homework on the candidates for the fourth pick in the first round and the fourth pick in the second round, which is the 36th player selected in this year’s draft. Both of these picks are extremely important and both of them could [...]

Everybody knows the Eagles were going to sign a defensive linemen or two during free agency after they sent veterans Cullen Jenkins and Mike Patterson on their way. Today they signed veteran San Francisco 49ers nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga.
He’s not a spring chicken at 31 years of age, but he is a space-eater standing 6’2″ [...]

The Eagle have released veteran defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins. The Birds obviously didn’t like what they saw of Jenkins on tape and they don’t think he can make the transition to another defensive system.
Jenkins has been a major disappointment for the Birds defense after getting off to a fast start when he was signed by [...]

I’ve heard from numerous NFL sources here in Mobile, Alabama at the Senior Bowl, that the Eagles assistant coaches and scouts are talking about getting players for a 3-4 defense.
Specifically they’ve been asking and talking a great deal about big defensive linemen, who will play in this weekend’s Senior Bowl game.
I’ve also learned that the [...]

Eagles first round draft pick Fletcher Cox was named to the Pro Football Weekly/PRWA’s all-rookie team. The rookie defensive tackle lived up to his billing and was the most consistent defensive lineman on the football team.
Cox led all rookie defensive tackles in sacks with 5.5. His size, speed, quickness and work ethic should help him [...]

The guy who stood out the most in the Eagles-Bengals contest was Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham. He’s been coming on of late and making people take notice. He couldn’t get on the field for Jim Washburn, but now that the defensive line coach and Jason Babin are gone, Graham has been the Eagles best [...]

The Eagles defensive line will be going back to a standard defensive front this weekend, which will mean a major change for all of them. No longer will they be able to pin their ears back and get after the passer. They will have to read what the offensive lineman they’re facing are doing during [...]

The Eagles have fired defensive line coach Jim Washburn and replaced him with former line coach Tom Brasher. Andy Reid made a critical mistake when he hired Washburn as the defensive line coach before hiring a defensive coordinator. He gave Washburn too much power and when added to his strong personality created a serious problem [...]
