Ryne Sandberg Gets Off The Sinking Ship

The Hall of Fame second-basemen turned Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg couldn’t take anymore.  Sandberg resigned last night after the Phillies were beaten by the Washington Nationals 5-2.  The Nationals starter Max Scherzer was off his game last night but that still didn’t give the Phils much of a chance.
Big changes are coming for the Phillies […]

Report: Chris Wheeler And Sarge Matthews Out Of Phillies Booth

Rob Maadi of the Associated Press reports that both Chris Wheeler and former Phillies outfielder Gary “Sarge” Matthews won’t be doing the Phillies games from the broadcasting booth this year.  Wheeler has been doing the games for four decades.
They are each expected to continue to be a part of the Phillies organization in some capacity.

Phillies Are A Communication Mess

Let’s start off with two cups and a string. Maybe that will allow the Phillies’ brass and their players to communicate a little better.

“As long as he feels like that he’s healthy and can pitch and things [and] the doctor says he’s healthy, then we got to send him back out there,” Charlie Manuel said […]

Notes From Phillies’ 5-1 Win Over Atlanta

The Phillies won their third straight game on Saturday afternoon, taking down the Braves 5-1 in Atlanta. The victory improves the Phillies to 64-69.

The Phillies were anchored today by another stellar start from Cliff Lee. Lee threw seven scoreless innings, and allowed just five hits while striking out five. His ERA has now dipped to […]

Checking In On Former Phillies

Jamie Moyer: At 49 years old, Moyer continues to defy all odds and has worked his way back into the game as a member of the Colorado Rockies’ rotation. He’s 2-3 with a 4.20 ERA in eight starts after being away from the game for more than a year. How can you not admire this […]

Scott Podsednik Traded To Red Sox

Ruben Amaro Jr reached a deal with Ben Cherington that sent the once non-roster invitee, Scott Podsednik to the Boston Red Sox in return for cash. The move is good for the Phillies because Podsednik was not going to be playing at Citizen’s Bank Park this season and the team could use the extra cash.
The […]

Early 3-0 Hole Dooms Phillies In Loss To Mets

The Phillies fell 5-2 to the New York Mets on Friday night.
Cliff Lee wasn’t sharp at the beginning of the game, and put the Phillies in an instant 3-0 hole to begin the game. Lee gave up back-to-back doubles to start the inning, and then gave up a two-run homerun to Jason Bay.
Lee was able […]

Phillies Fans Will Have To Face Up To The Truth

If the Phillies offensive struggles during spring training wasn’t enough of an indication as to what fans should expect from this season’s Fightins, then their 2.3 rpg in the Pirates season factored in by their two-run output against the Marlins in game one of that series should convince the Philly faithful that this team is […]

Superb Pitching Anchors Phillies To Opening Day Victory

It’s all about the pitching. The Philadelphia Phillies’ championship hopes rest on the arms of their vaunted pitching staff with vast amounts of money invested in the starting rotation, and the closer. On Opening Day, the team’s pitching staff proved to be worth every penny.
Roy Halladay got into trouble in the first inning, allowing the […]

Jimmy Rollins on Cole Hamels: “He’s not going anywhere”

All is well on the field in Florida as Cole Hamels threw three and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball against the Pirates, but there are questions about Hamels’ long-term standing with the Phils because of his short-term contract.
The lefthander tried to minimize the importance of his agent, John Boggs being in Clearwater yesterday.
“He just comes […]
