Eagles Should Be Open To Keeping Lito PDF Print E-mail

There's no reason why the Eagles can't just hang onto to cornerback Lito Sheppard. Sheppard doesn't bring that bitterness to the team that Terrell Owens did.  I could see and hear him communicating with all his teammates including Asante Samuel and you could see they were having a good time.

He said something very wise afterwards, "I don't have any beef with Asante, I talk with everybody".  He even talked about how they can make each other better and he's definitely right.

There's not a quarterback  in the National Football League who will enjoy throwing at a secondary which has Asante Samuel on one corner, Sheppard on the other and Sheldon Brown playing inside over the slot receiver.

They took turns this weekend getting in position to pick off passes.  Samuel, Sheppard and Brown are all very smart players who could be a lethal combo in the Birds secondary.

Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson said as much.  "There are going to be times when all three of them are on the field," Johnson said of cornerbacks Samuel, Sheppard and Sheldon Brown. "It might be 60 percent of the time. It might be 70 percent of the time. We are going to put our best football players on the field. It might not just be against three wideouts, you never know."

Games are won and lost when three and four wide receivers are on the field.  Second and long, third and long and fourth and long are usually the key plays in a game.
