Now, Malcolm Jenkins Needs To Take More Ownership Of Eagles

MalcolmJenkinsvs.Pats1I think the Eagles made a good move this afternoon by signing their Pro Bowl safety Malcolm Jenkins to a new five-year deal.  Jenkins is one of the best football players on their roster, plus he’s one of their leaders.  He doesn’t just talk, but he plays well and talks.   Words become hollow if you’re not backing up your talking with some good playing.

Jenkins is a winner.  His younger teammates need to emulate his work and study habits.  The former New Orleans Saints prepares properly and shows up every week ready to play, both emotionally and mentally.

I see him jump plays early in the game, which demonstrates that he’s studied the tendencies of the opposing offense.  Jenkins plays smart attacking football, which is what it takes to win.

If I were running things up at the Nova Care Complex, I would give Jenkins more ownership of the football team, by encouraging him to take this football team in the direction he thinks it needs to go.  I would have no problem with him pushing some of his young teammates to a higher level.  If Jenkins decided to chew out a teammate or two, that would be a good thing.  He could even push a teammate by giving the certain quote to the media to get a teammate to play like he is capable of playing.

Jenkins is a good guy to have around quarterback Sam Bradford, who needs to be a stronger leader.  Jenkins is a very intelligent and observant person, who knows what Drew Brees brought to the table to lead the Saints to a Super Bowl title.  He can let Bradford know he must get hungrier, better, stronger and more aggressive, if he wants to do the same.

I’ve learned that many times, certain things need to said by one of the leaders on the team rather than the coach, in order for it to take hold on a football team.  The players have to decide that it’s something that want to commit to doing.

Jenkins and other Eagles might be able to push increase the commitment by the players to win.  Who knows they may be able to get Bradford to live up to his potential.

Yes…I agree…good move to sign Jenkins, he is a leader, very articulate. He noted how he liked how Bradford developed last year as a more vocal leader of the team…with Jenkins and other vets and even the talk about keeping Sproles…it makes no sense to throw some untested rookie in there or try to have Chase Daniels or some other career back-up take the reins of leadership….the Eagles need to continue in their current direction, sign Bradford and see what Pederson can do

Make Jenkins happy

Sign Bradford.
Investigate Murray for Foles (Because we are over invested at RB not because of Foles)
Trade the 13 to move back and get a 2 this year. See if 49ers or anyone else will give you anything at all for Sanchez.

Ideal situation
QB 1Bradford -for next 3 to 5 years.
QB 2 Foles (can be cut/restructured after 2016)
QB 3 Rookie Prospect in mid round

RB 1 Matthews
RB 2 Rookie
RB 3 Sproles

I kinda hope the Rams get RG3. It would be ironic and satisfying to see Washington have built a team for RG3 in LA.

the eagles locker room will love Howie in 2016, he keeps giving them raises but if those same players don’t win the division next year the fans will demand Howie be tarred and feathered. His coup he better deliver.

Cripes you are as bad as Vinnie and Kool with your anti-Howie agenda. We get it dude. We get it already. I don’t see a ton of people disagreeing with you, so why do you keep making this point over and over again.

I can’t stop, Howie is the only one left standing to poke. Pederson and Schwartz deserve a chance, at least 3 years to build a team in their image. Howie’s leash is much shorter.

Sucks to see Demeco go, but the Eagles will save 3.5 million in cap space which is good. Hicks is now the man in the middle!

Interesting little nugget since we all likely interpreting comments from Howie and Dougie fresh – Howie mentioned a few weeks back that they were not going to be able to carry much cap over from 2016 to 2017, which, he mentioned, was unusual for them.

However, even if they don’t cut Sanchez (which they definitely will), they will currently have 30 mil in cap space. Give Cox his extension which will take about 3-4 mil of that space and sign your rookies which will be about 5-6, which takes us down to 20-22 million in space. Even with some modest Free agent signings that would still have plenty of carry over from 2016-2017.

If we are interpreting Howie’s comments (as so many on here love to do) then it looks like Howie is expecting one more big contract to be signed this off season……..no idea who that could be.

maybe RG3? Howie was around for the signing of Mike Vick, Vince Young, & Mark Sanchez. RG3 is the kind of high draft pick chance the birds like to try.

Option A is Bradford.

Also it was reported that GMs and other personnel at the combine, you know actual football people not gcobb posters lol, expect Bradford back with the Eagles. Pederson also said Bradford wants to come back. Hell we should send the gcobb posters to Indianapolis they would be the smartest people in the room.

I recall football people saying chip was going to revolutionize the game, saying this player and that player was going to be great this that and the third…sometimes the football people are wrong and gcobbers are right. In this case I think those football people are wrong…vy the way…who are those football people?

actually most “football people” predicted that chip was going to fail. terms like “genius” and “change the game” were used in jest. now the fans on the other hand (myself included) got excited especially after that first year. but really most football people stayed pat that chips system was better designed for college.

February 24, 2016 6:37 pm

And after that first season a lot of them flipped as it relates to Chip. I think the Eagles will let Bradfraud test free agency to allow the market to determine his value. I also think that the market is not going to be as robust as some fans, Condon or Sham thinks it will be…he should have taken the 4 year 18 mil per deal. If the Eagles want him they can have him…I think Bradford and Condon want to test the market too..which he should. I think he will get a Nick Foles deal…seems there is not going to be a big market for Bradford..and I understand why.

The Eagles have enough money to sign Bradford now if they really want him…I think the interest is luke warm…they will re-sign him if they can get him for cheap…he will not get a mega deal or a big deal from the Eagles…nor any other team.

No EOS you are 10 strong who have found a safe haven with the few others with the same views ongcobb.com which has brainwashed the few of you to actually believing the assanine posts that have littered these boards for you. The 10 regular opinions on here aren’t neccesarily the view of thousands and thousands of other Eagles fans around the globe. Its like the good old boy site that runs out fans that have different views except for a few. If it was up to the gcobbers Joey Galloway would just be ending his 15 year contract, Kolb would be coming off the books, Byrd would be in year 5 and Foles would be in year 3 of his 15 year 150 million dollar contract. lmao. But its all good. I try to level the playing field every now and then.

what? I know my opinion is mostly in the minority & am not delusional to think other wise. I stood alone in wanting Howie to remain as GM not benched last year. I stand alone in thinking Vinny Curry is a bust and never should have been resigned. — I believe Howie should be held to the same success standards as Gamble & Marynowitz. I respect free opinion and speech when it comes to violence & narcotics I am less tolerant. Which is why I laugh at the phony local Philly sports reporters and journalists 180 degree standard for Riley Cooper and Allen Iverson.

For a shitty ass QBs like the gcobb gurus state Bradford is Doug Pederson really is talking him up. Just watched his press conference at the combine and he sounds like Bradford is coming back. Dag, the problem is there really aren’t many really good or great QBs ..teams have to figure out a way to get into the tourney with he Bradford’s, smiths, Tannehills etc. we all want our Brady or Rodgers or even mcnabb where each and every week you had a qb that if necessary can put the team in his shoulders and win.., sam hasn’t done that.. I hope he can. I stated last year I hope the guy plays his way into the HOF as the eagles qb…

Headlines everywhere “Eagles negotiating with Bradford”

No one…anywhere said this. Yet its the headline. Philly Media is a joke.

All Howie said was that…at some point…he’s going to “run into” Tom Condon who has “a lot of players”

Philly Media screams – Eagles Negotiating….all to get hits and arguments. Media environment is toxic as they do nothing but make shit up.

vinnie ….there really is no interpreting your way out of this one. they asked doug is they were negotiating with bradfords team and he clear as day said yes. Howie referred to it as “ongoing negotiation”. you do know what “ongoing” means right? for something to be ongoing it must first be going.

he still may not be signed due to money. but it’s clear he is their option “A” despite what “experts” like yourself think of him

Show me the quote where Pederson said the Eagles are negotiating with Bradford’s agent.

Roseman said Cox will get “great player money” then said he would “run into” Tom Condon “sometime next week.

Philly Media screams “Eagles Negotiating with Sam Bradford” and Koolidiot came in his pants.

forget quotes, I listened to the entire thing. question asked to doug – are there negotiations going on with bradford, “yes, yeah”.

Roseman said it’s never productive to talk to the media about “ongoing negotiations”.

nothing left to interpretation. Bradford is option A. if he is unreasonable with the money than they will go another route.

Fool!

The quote didn’t come from Pederson, Vinniedafoolass, it came directly from Howie Roseman. He said as clear as day at the Press Conference from the Combine which was played on the radio!

“It’s never productive to talk about an ongoing negotiations,” Roseman said. “But we have been clear we want Sam back.”
NJ.com

What Pederson said made it pretty obvious who the Eagles want at QB and he simply put the onus on Bradford.

“All I know is if Sam wants to be in Philadelphia,” Pederson said, “he’ll be in Philadelphia.”….Philly.com

Once again, Vinniedafoolass you are stuck and dumb as fuck.
You are truly a “who da fuck knows’ kind of guy that can never catch up, never figure it out…how do you continue time, after time again to continue to mess it up…you stumble about can’t never get it right…smh

Was renegotiating Malcolm Jenkins really a priority when Walter Thurmond, Nolan Carroll, & E J Biggers are unrestricted free agents?
This is what is left :
Jenkins + Ed Reynolds, Eric Rowe, Denzel Rice maybe Jaylen Watkins or JaCorey Sheppard.

Canttakeitanymore
Canttakeitanymore

yes. ..cause it saved money by signing before the safety Market was set in free agency.

they are obviously comfortable with maxwell and Rowe at corners. need more of a run stopping second safety in Schwartz defense so Thurmond isn’t needed.

Sheppard will be nickel as was the plan pre injury

The eagles secondary wasn’t that good but Rowe, Maxwell, Sheppard, Jenkins and a new run stuffing safety doesn’t seem to be an improvement. I liked Thurmond much better than Nate Allen not excited to see Thurmond replaced with an unknown.

Vinnie – For all the back and forth with you, I share a degree of your concern (obviously not to your extent) that Bradford could not work out. I trust Roseman that any contract they sign him to (if any) will give the Eagles an out after two years. If he doesn’t accept those terms, then they will let him trust free agency.

I don´t think heś going to get offered anything…at least not anything substantial in FA. (Again, another red flag – does anyone else want him??)

Thatś why the Eagles aren tagging the guy. Theyŕe obviously not all that concerned that anyone else is going to swoop in with a big offer in a couple weeks.

Bradford is just a ¨blech”move. Thereś no other way I can describe it other than ¨blech¨.

Thereś no promise, thereś no excitement….I mean every article written about the guy (accuracy, downfield throws, carrying a team, consistency) are cut and pasted from 2012 because all the issues are the exact same as they were then.

I mean seriously….everyone should go read Bill Barnwellś 2013 article about what the Rams should do with Bradford…because when you do, the first thing that comes to mind is Ḧey, thatś exactly like 2016.

Add in that about 80% of NFL QBs lose their first playoff game….if Sammy 7s can even get there (and there is no evidenced he can) well….its a spinning tires move.

And I haven even brought up his injury history (which cannot be ignored), his incredible propensity to pad his stats when the game is either over or irrelevant, or his absolutely defeatist-looking body language he carries on to the field every game.

Its just blech. No hope. No promise. And 3 years from now weŕe in the exact same spot.

Blah, Blah, Blah…..

Over and over again…the Bradford bashers give us the same gloom and doom but still not a single hint at a better move, more “exciting’ move.

Chase Daniels, Mark Sanchez, RG3, Nick Foles, or one of these overrated rookies in the draft with our 13th pick…

Boy some ‘exciting’ options here…

mhenski talks about Howie being “scared” and wants Howie and the new Coach to take the plunge into a ‘rebuild”…but he is scared to death to take a position on the moves to make that would put us in the Super Bowl…

What’s the plan…who should be the QB?

Take a stand…take a damm position…stop being scared…who is the QB that the Eagles should draft in this draft?

first 3rd round selection Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg, I don’t expect him to be available so the more likely option is to
use their first 3rd round selection on QB Cardale Jones. Give him 16 starts, if he shows no promise then use 2017 1st round choice on a QB. It is the Jimmy Clausen/ Cam Newton strategy.

koolbreeze, I don’t know why it’s hard for you to appreciate that many people view Sam Bradford as a journeyman QB that is a small step above ‘serviceable’.

When I think of the Eagles signing Sam to a contract, I think of the Bears and the position they are in with Jay Cutler.

The comments you make about Bradford being the best available option for the Eagles, are the same things that were said about Cutler and the Bears.

Cutler was the Bears best available option – so they signed him. Now they are doomed to mediocrity until Cutler is gone.

The Eagles will be doomed to mediocrity as long as Sam Bradford is under center.

You want to hear a better plan?… I’ll choose any play that has not already failed over the past 6 seasons. Sam Bradford is the only proven loser among all the other options.

Irish Eagle its simple you and others have taken a short-sighted and uninformed view of Bradford while offering nothing at all as alternative. A small step beyond serviceable is better than flat out sucking. Your criticisms of Sam Bradford are devoid of reason…Sam Bradford threw for more than 3700 yards with a 65% completion rating so your comparisons to Cutler simply do not make sense.
Cutler was given weapons, he has good receivers, a good running back…his offensive line was not that good but he had much more talent around him than Bradford did.
If you want to vociferously contend that Sam Bradford stinks…fine…please provide the option…put yourself on the record. Dont wait until the Eagles fail to resign Bradford jump for joy and then when the starter next year stinks…begin to bash him as worthless as well.
Make a call…what’s the move? Should we start a rookie? Chase Daniels, Mark Sanchez, Nick Foles, who should play QB next year.

Why wont you and other Bradford bashers get on the record here in this forum? Why are you guys hiding?

Kool, c’mon, you have to admit a lot of Sam’s stats are padded with dump offs and 5-10 yard passes that the receiver gained YAC and garbage time TD’s for increasing Sam’s stats. I understand that that is how it goes, but Sam’s arm was not responsible for those numbers. In addition, I still think Sam is going to continue to miss games due to injury, Sam is just one serious injury away from walking away from the game and retiring. Imagine if the Eagles signed him long term and then he gets seriously injured. A young QB or less oft injured QB would return from that, Sam is already on record stating he was seriously contemplating retirement, not much fight, fire or game left in him as it pertains to rehabbing through another serious injury.
Put me on record, I want Carson Wentz. As an immediate QB I sign RG3 and draft Wentz to develop. Honestly, I just do not see Sam as a viable option for the Eagles to win a playoff game, not to mention a SB. There is nothing in his history or performance that shows me that he is a viable option to be the QB to put the team on his back and lead us to the playoffs…Sam was taken number 1 overall because of his history in college, he was projected to be a franchise level QB based off of that history, therefore, it is only logical to use Sam’s NFL history to project what he will continue to be going forward, his history suggests mediocre at best with the high probability of getting injured and missing games.

If Wentz is not available I draft a developmental prospect, I will be watching Paxton lynch, Cardale Jones, Jacoby Brisset. during the combine to watch their long pass accuracy. RG 3 would be my starter for the 2016 season.

Pederson, when asked yesterday how he evaluates QB said there are 5 things he looks at:

A. Win/loss record
B. Toughness, both physical and mental
C. Physical tools (“The physical (tools) shows up on tape,” he said.)
D. Confidence (“I want to see if he exudes confidence and can get 10 other guys to believe in him,” Pederson said.)
E. Football IQ (Pederson explained he wants to get the quarterbacks on the board and find out how much they know.)

So….as For Sammy Sideways……

A – Epic fail
B – Fail on the mental toughness
C – Pass (maybe…he has them but doesn’t use them)
D – Fail Shoulders slumped checkdown charlie
E – probable fail as he himself stated he couldn’t master Kelly’s simpleton system

Sooooooooo……

Once again…Vinniedafoolass ignores what the Coach said directly about Bradford to construct his own warped view

Pederson on Bradford:

“I think Sam’s a quality quarterback,” Pederson said “I think he’s a top-notch quarterback. Look what he did that last half of the season, the numbers he was able to put up. As a quarterback, he would fit perfectly with a system that I’m going to bring.”

Pederson on another occasion when asked about Sam Bradford:

“You look at that from an X’s and O’s standpoint. You can also talk to people that have been around Sam Bradford, that understand where he’s come as a quarterback, his development as a quarterback. The fact that he himself put himself in a leadership role toward the end of the season proves to me that he can handle it going forward. This role, and the opportunity to start.”

The guy that Vinniedafool quotes wants Sam Bradford

His teammates want Sam Bradford as the QB

Sam Bradford is better than all the options that anyone has put forth.

Sam Bradford should be the Quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles.

He (and reoseman) have also said…and you keep omitting this of course is this:

If he’s here, that’s good, but if not we have plan B in place and we’re fine with that too.

Seriously? Who the hell says that about a guy they like??? You think the Saints say, Well, if Brees is here that’s good, but if not we have plan B.

Seriously?

Planm B is good?

If you are comfortable with “plkan B” then your “Plkan A” sucks and you know it.

No team would ever let a QB they really cared about or actually believed in hit the FA market.

Yet that is precisely whaat the Eagles are going to do.

See ya….go tesst out your worth. We actually don’t think you are worth anything and will come grovelling back here in a couple weeks and sign the pathetically low tender we may, or may not have already offered you – no one knows for sure. Combine on field drills today, I like the combine and being introduced to these young players before the draft. NFL website Gil Brandt identified a few players he wants to see at the combine to answer questions in his opinion of their ability. He spot lighted OL Jack Conklin who some of the NFL website mock draft scout gurus pencil in for the Eagles at pick #13. Gil Brandt thinks Conklin is a guard in the NFL not a tackle. But silver lining he thinks he could be a very dominate guard and wants to see him pull and move well in OL field drills to see if he is worthy. So if birds select Jack Conklin he might always be an OG even when OT Peters hangs up the cleats.

They’ve been airing the 2015 Combine on the network and its actually been interesting to watch a bit knowing now which of the players had good NFL debuts.

Especially interesting watching the QBs – knowing how they fared in the NFL. Winston’s arm, especially on deep out patterns was light year’s ahead of the others – even Mariotta – though he was doing such a good job hitting the WRs just as they came out of their breaks. He clearly had a good understanding of the position, though Winston was sooo superior just throwing the ball.

Offensive linemen is round 1 is the most beautiful scenerio to start off the Dougie era. Sure up that oline with 2-3 picks and one in FA.

Build around sam. I see sam coming back because where is he going to go? San fran? To get killed in a Kelly offense? Highly unlikely with them having Colin and a high draft pick. The rams? Not a chance. The Browns? Doubt it who also have a high pick and Will probably be looking at rg3 or a qb In the draft.

Then you have Houston. Will they be looking to draft a qb, a manZiel? Rg3? They have no running game, worse oline then us, and there defense gives up huse plays every week. Take JJ off that team and that defense is in the bottom half by far.

Sam has made 80 million in his nfl career. Not including business outside of football.

His best option by far is philly. Sign a 15-17 mill sam. And stay with the team that gives u the best chance to win.

If no one in the league wants Sammy Sevens (and I am inclined to agree with you on this point)….then why the hell do they have to pay him 15-17??

IF there have been “ongoing negotiations” (and I don’t believe there have been) its a guarantee that the offer has been a lot lower than that. And why wouldn’t it?

Offer him some basement deal. No one else wants the guy. He’ll either come groveling back for whatever scraps they’re offering, or they’ll move on to “Plan B” which they have clearly indicated they are very comfortable with. (and why not? 19tds can be had for $4 million….why pay 17 for 4 production?)

Because it is a qb hungry league. A guy coming off two acls who had tons of drops an improved through out the second half of the season will not be completely forgotten and overlooked like alot of eagles fans have done because of that “garbage time” arguement.

With an improved oline, rb and wr play (cut the drops in half) sam can throw 27-32 tds. With a improved defense he can be a qb that wins. Especially in year 2 coming off his acls. Let a qb learn off him for a few seasons.

So I ask…if no one else wants him, why would the Eagles pay 17 million? Bidding against themselves??

“The quarterback position is the most important in the NFL, and while Fitzpatrick isn’t a superstar, he played very well for the Jets last season and is their best option moving forward. Both sides want to get a deal done, which should mean that Fitzpatrick will be the Jets’ starting quarterback next season.”

That might not even be true.

Don’t compare sam to Fitz either. I wouldn’t take Fitz over sam under any circumstance.
Ur gonna that’s that dumb but ok.
Fitz played with a damn good defense, coach, oline, running game and wr play. And he never tore his acl twice. Sam can lead this team if he is the guy.

Paying Bradford 17 – 20 million next year is not the problem – The problem is the Eagles are stuck with the bum for the length of the contract.

It’s not a question money. It’s the commitment…. Do you think Sam will sign a one year contract? No, he’ll want 4-5 years. Who the hell wants Bradford and his 7-9 seasons for 4-5 years.

If the Eagles sign Bradford to a 4 year deal, I’ll bet my right nut that he misses half the games. And the Eagles will tack it up the ass like the Rams were when they drafted that BUST with the first pick.

Exactly. Trapped with him like the Bears with Cutler, Miami with what’s his name, Chiefs with Smith, Bears with Cutler, and…as per my example…Jets with Fitzpatrick.

Every year the fanbase has to “convince” themselves that this year, this year will be different, when everyone knows, deep down that it will be exactly the same.

I put the Fitz reference up there, not because I think he’s good….Fitzpatrick is garbage. I just find it so funny that they’re using the exact same “best option” arguement with him that the Bradford fans are using in here.

Sam will not get a contract offer from the Eagles worth more than 14 million for 4 years with the option to cut him with no cap hit after year two. The market for Bradford is already materializing, it is a dry wasteland, exposing what Bradford’s true value is worth, wasn’t that the criteria to demonstrate Sam’s worth and how good he is….how many teams will be banging down the door and throwing money at him?! He will not be in a position to make many choices, teams will not bid high for his services…the book is out on Bradford, it’s 1995 Ford Taurus with 195,000 miles blue book value. He’s just a guy.

Here’s a blockbuster option.

How could the Eagles work a trade of Bradford and Murray to the Cowboys. Wouldn’t this make a ton of sense?

Bradford is not going to get the $$ he wants on the open market.

Dallas is terrified of 2015 happening all over again – their entire season collapsing when the oft-injured Romo gets injured again.

Wouldn’t Bradford look like a perfect fail-safe option for them?

Doesn’t Dallas make total sense for Bradford’s “don’t put the responsibility all on me!” mind-set?

He goes in there, and its a guarantee he will play at some point, but with no pressure at all, because its Romo’s team. They sign him for a 1 year $8 million deal (expensive for a backup, but because he’s sooo damn good, they have to pay a premium right?) Then after the year of backing up and playing 4 games, they sign him to a 4 yr deal to replace the ancient Romo.

Dallas also gets Murray back who wants out of Philly anyway.

He’d have a massive oline, good wrs, and with Murray back in Dallas, a very strong Run game. (So when he falls on his face, the apologists will have to think up some opther reason he sucks and quick)

Could the Eagles tag Bradford, then trade him and Murray to Dallas for their first round pick in 2017??? (They won’t give up their 4th pick this year…but if they did….wow….)

I think they might. They are in “win now” mode. (Jerry is always in “win now” mode which is why they never win)

Eagles take a OT at 13. (Sign Daniels to hold the fort. Lose a lot and head into the 2017 draft with 2 high #1s to get their QB and another OL.

I’ve heard the rumours.

I just figure Murray would be the guy they would really want, and Sammy Sideways just sweetens the pot.

Romo goes down and they go 0-6 with any of either Manziel or RGme in there. Season over. Bradford probably gets them to 3-3 and keeps them alive for when Romo gets back.

I dunno….if Dallas truly thinks they can “win now” it kinda makes sense…..

Vinnie you can not trade a player until the league year begins.

That would require Franchise tag on Bradford. Cowboys could not have Romo and Bradford under That kind of money.

Bradford staying here makes the most sense for both parties.

Of course they wouldn’t. No one will take that scrub for any serious $$. That’s obvious. The Tag would just be to “hold” the rights. Then Cowboys, through Eagles, work out a contract with BF from March 6-9. Once they agree on principal to one, then the trade is made on March 9.

Murray (who wants out and looks like he’s going to be a problem because the Eagles can’t release him) goes back where he wants, Dallas also gets a QB they absolutely need because they’re terrified of Romo and are always in stupid “win now” mode.

Bradford is happy because he gets out of Philly and into an area of the country he likes, AND becomes devoid of all the “carry the team” responsibilities that clearly his slumped shoulders cannot handle. He’s not comfortable being “the guy”, so Dallas is a perfect spot for him.

On March 10 Dallas announces its 1 or 2 year (voidable) deal with SB. If he’s good in his 4-5 appearances with Dallas, he can re-sign there in 2017 to replace the crumbling Romo.

This deal is awesome for the Eagles for 3 reasons/

1 – Eagles should be able to get a #1 pick for a SB, Murray from the idiot Jerry who is desperate.
2 – Eagles solve the problem of the “best option – but we all know he’s shit” Bradford
3 – If Bradford re-signs with Dallas after this season, it guarantees they will not win the division for another 4 or 5 years!!!

Its a no-lose proposition!!

Look I really really hope it happens, as it only means one of the draft Qbs would fall, but what is the logic for Cleveland to bring in a benched QB.

Their fanbase isn;t going to get behind that move.

That may be true, but you have to remember, that for the most part, these guys think defensively. They consider all scenarios, including fallout from failure.

So, in this instance, avoiding Kap and taking a rookie QB at #2 is a “safer” play. in case things go south.

Take a rook and he fails and the GM can fall back on the “he was the consensus #1, we “had” to take him, everybody loved the pick at the time argument. The media and fabase will be less critical.

Hand the reins to Kaep and he fails and the GM gets eviscerated. The moment that trade happens you will already have half the media/fanbase dead set against it. Dude goes out and plays like he has the past 2.5 years and all the FO gets is “we told you so – how could you be sooo stupid?!?” Doomsday for the GM and the new staff.

The same think is playing out in Philadelphia right now. The majority of the fanbase wants no part of Blech Bradford, and if the mgmt team hitches itself to that shabby wagon and things go south…..well….watch out. There will be no quarter given in the court of public opinion.

These guys think defensively, and for the most part are all about keeping themselves on the payroll. They, more often than not, take the safe route over the risky one. (in terms of downside fallout)

The refusal to answer a simple question simply demonstrates how lame a lot of the posters here on GCobb are…

Take a position, take a stand..man up and stop being such a wimp…

We get it..”Bradford sucks” “I hate Bradford”..”Say No to Sam”

Over and over again…its lame and boring

Get rid of Sam and THEN what lames???

Do we trade up and get Wentz or Goff? Do we draft Lynch at 13?

Do we go and get Chase Daniels?

Do we simply start Mark Sanchez?

Do we bring Nick Foles back?

What’s the plan? What should the Eagles do beyond getting rid of Bradford?

Don’t whimper and whine…”I dont know…just get rid of Bradford”

What’s the move? Make a call…take a damm position.

Stop being scared ass wimps and put ya name on a move that you can be held to account. Stop whining, stop being scared…

Watching the combine, I wanted to see Paxton Lynch and Cardale Jones perform, Jones pulled a hammy so nix that. Paxton Lynch has impressed me with his arm strength, he can make every NFL throw with no problem. I saw progressing footwork, not great, but good for a player who did not take snaps under center, he clearly has been practicing. Physically Lynch has great size, 6’6″ 244 10/25 hands 4.80 40. If Lynch is willing to study hard, and is open to coaching and shows he wants to be a great NFL QB attitude wise, I seriously would consider drafting him at 13. I know he has things to work on, but the ability and skill is there. He can have “it” if his head is where it needs to be. I wanted to see his accuracy on the pass down field..he showed me that with good accuracy and the pass jumped out of his hand showing a strong arm.
Wentz is smoother, Goff is more polished, but Lynch is not far behind either of them in my opinion as he has the physical tools to be a franchise QB with the right coaching, development, and work ethic.

Agreed to pretty much everything you saw. Wentz really jumped out to me, but he won’t be available. The 3 passes Lynch made on the post-corner deep routes were very, very good. Obviously he needs a little polish (he threw a couple behind on the out routes), but he clearly has some skillz.

Now we need to find out if he has any smarts.

I saw limited QB drills at the combine and none of the 2nd group of WR & QBs. But I did see Hackenberg first couple combine throws, he sailed a slant & lead a receiver too much too . Was the rest of Hackenberg’s throws just as bad? It is beginning to look like Penn State’s WR Allen Robinson carried Hackenberg during the QB’s freshmen year and made him look much better than he is since he couldn’t repeat that first year performance without Robinson. Allen Robinson had a huge 2015 for Jacksonville with 80 catches, 1400 yards and 14 TDs. That bests even Maclin & DJax best career year here and Robinson is only in his 2nd year.

Anyone who knew anything about Johnny Manziel knew he was not going to be a good pro QB, mostly a back up, but you bought in..based off of hype. Guess what, Lynch will be available at 13, and we know the Eagles had an informal meeting, then a formal meeting with him at the combine. EHL I have watched those guys play…when the talk has heated up about them…I watched video highlights of their games, I saw Goff against USC, I saw highlights of Wentz and I saw Lynch against Temple along with highlights…

These guys would have been second round picks in last year’s draft…there is nothing all that special about any of them. None of them have been in a lot of big time games, Wentz competition level has been so low…the only thing you have been ‘touting’ about him is what you heard the Lynch has never played under center…he’s a prospect..

As far as Manziel…we saw a guy come through in big time games against big time opponents…he played against tough competition and played well…I thought he was a better fit for Kelly’s system…easy reads, mobility and a strong arm. I did not believe he was good for conventional NFL offenses…

The bottom line is you have no better options…your options suck!
If the Eagles sign Bradford they will be doing what’s best for the team, giving the new Coach a chance that he wouldn’t have with Daniels, Sanchez, Foles or a rookie like Lynch (who will probably be the only guy available at 13) who clearly is not ready

The whole ‘bring along a QB’ is extremely difficult…you need a break…but you cant count on getting one…there is a huge possibility that the guy you get will be a bust that cant play…the Eagles have to sign Bradford with the thought that he will be their guy for the next couple of years and hope they catch a break and will be able to develop some young Qb they get in the 4th or 5th round…or that they will be able to pick something up in the draft next year…
You see….the New Coach doesn’t want to start off with a backup that may be good, or a rookie, or a bum like Nick Foles…he wants a smart QB who can make all the throws and has the confidence of his teammates in the locker room….So despite what you say, what mperverthenski says, what Vinniedafool, and haveablunt say…you can bet your ass the Coach is saying to Howie…”Hey…we gotta keep him…give me chance to build with a vet that the team is confident in…instead of a backup or a rookie”

As far as Lynch is concerned, you watched him play against Temple, so you are going to judge his whole career and resume based on one game that he did not play well in, if we do that with Bradford then he definitely should not be the QB, if I judge Bradford against the Cowboys in that 2nd game of the season..in which he was god awful, then what? Who was Lynch’s receivers, who were the Olinemen, none of them are players in the draft so you just have lynch. You watched video clips of Wentz..I am sorry, that is not even going to count. Goff is a very good prospect. You are watching these players and judging them on bad game tape or a bad game you watched them play, I can do the dame thing with Bradford’s college games or NFL games, how is that right?

Kool, Bradford is the best available option to win what? 7 games, even when healthy he has only won 7 games. The Eagles will have the same receivers minus Cooper, what will Bradford do different to make the players around him better, to elevate their level of play? He has never done this in St. Louis or with the Eagles this past year.
You can’t be scared to find a quarterback to lead your team, settling on a QB because he is the “best option available” is settling for mediocrity and an act of desperation. If he was the best player period…I would want Bradford, but I can find better. We will see in a couple of years where brasford is at..problably retired from a concussion or torn ACL, and we will see where Lynch, Goff and Wentz is at…I would roll with any of the three over Bradford whose known quantity is injuries, 7 wins per season, a slow processing of new plays and a .360 winning %age with no playoffs. The Eagles had a chance to make the playoff’s last year and Bradford could not lead us there. Do not knock the defense as they kept us in games in the beginning of the year…like that Dallas game. Bradford can shred defenses when they are in the prevent in garbage time, or when the Eagles are getting blown out already..but when it is on the line..I do not see him putting the team on his back and willing them to a win…that’s what a winning QB does!

Give me a fresh option that I can build with, not win 7 games and is guaranteed to miss games due to injury. I look forward to the excuses with Bradfraud, “It’s a new system”, “He’s getting acclimated”.. the excuses never stop, six years and counting!!!

According to Mike Mayock Goff is ready to play in the NFL today. He would be a high first round pick in any draft. Wentz is not that far behind and would also be a first round pick in any draft. In a year or two with coaching Lynch might be be the best of the bunch.

I’m with you EHL, I would take a chance on any one of those three guys over signing Bradford.

EHL, stop it…stop it…I saw these guys just as much as anyone else has…who knows…maybe they will be good. Lynch played from the shotgun…he’s never played under center and most people project that he needs a couple of years to develop.
These QB’s are simply not prospects like we saw with Andrew Luck, RG3, Mariota, Winston…they are not top of the line prospects that you can count on to any reasonable degree. In my view none of the QB’s should be taken in the top twenty when you look at their careers, the big games they played in, their overall productions, and skill sets. They are all at best late first rounders-second round prospects who MIGHT be good but it would be no surprise if they all were busts.
EHL, once again…you like all the other Bradford haters keep talking about his record as if Sam Bradford plays tennis…its Football. If your defense, offensive line, receivers, and running backs suck…you will lose…I dont care how talented you are as a QB.
Bradford has played well, been injured a lot and none of his teams have been good. Name me the big time wide receiver that Bradford, a pocket QB, has played with? Name one? These are not excuses they are simple facts.
EHL, you and others keep down playing, dismissing, and totally ignoring what the Players and Coaches want….while you may not think much about Bradford, its very clear and obvious that the Players and Coaches want the guy and have more confidence in him. You can bet anything that Pederson doesn’t want Chase Daniels, Nick Foles, or Mark Sanchez to be his starting QB…he doesn’t some green rookie that he hopes, maybe that perhaps he can teach him how to be a QB in the NFL.

No…Pederson wants a guy that he knows is smart, can run an NFL offense and then his concern is getting Players around him who can make plays!
Pederson wants the guy that the Players have told him that they have confidence in…the Players want Bradford.
Give the new Coach a chance…why throw Pederson to the wolves with a green rookie, a totally unproven backup like Daniels, or failed bums like Foles or Sanchez…the Eagles are giving the new Coach the best chance for some success, for the Players to have some confidence…by going with Bradford…

Finally, if the Eagles defense is improved the Eagles can bump that 7 games up to 9-10 wins…win the division and have a shot..we have to hope that Agholor develops, that we can pick up another competent, serviceable receiver and some offensive line help at guard…if we do that, Bradford can win you 9-11 games and get you in the Playoffs…we dont know if we have a competent Coach yet…but “fresh” options are not always the best option. In the NFL, there are too many example of ‘fresh’ options failing…ask the Oakland Raiders, the Jets, the Cleveland Browns…they always have a bunch of ‘fresh’ options…and always looking for them too

More times than not…it doesnt work.

Sam Bradford is the best option for the Eagles!

EHL..”stop it..stop it”LMAO…stop what..telling the truth? I have a plan, if we change Bradford’s jersey # to 13,14 or 15, perhaps he will lead us to that many wins, his number has always been 7, he never gets above that.
I am not interested in the best available option that is an unproven commodity after 6 years in the NFL. I do not believe in Sam Bradford or his ability to get the Eagles where they need to be, so what is the point of me wanting him back..he is just a guy. I am not worried about next season, I do not plan on dying next year, and the NFL is not folding after next season. I’d prefer to rebuild then have a retread mediocre Sam Bradford looking like a deer in the head lights. Next season the excuse will be, Sam has got to get used to the system, the receivers were not good enough. It’s all about the end game, I want a Super Bowl, I do not see Sam getting the Eagles there so why bother. Kool, I just can’t get excited over 7 wins and the certainty of an injury at some point of the season..we have seen this act before, it’s tired. Give me a fresh start with a new QB. Just making the play offs by winning a weak division is not good enough anymore, and Sam had the chance to do that, and he could not..I have seen enough of his act. These guys are not like Mariota, Winston, Luck, or even RG3…none of them are sure shots….and Goff and Wentz would be available at 13..

I’m sticking with Sam!

Hate Sam all you want…there are no excuses in Football…only facts…we can identify when the team loses because of Quarterback play…St Louis Rams Nick Foles cost his team games, threw back breaking interceptions in key losses, he prevented a team with a good defense and running game from winning so now they got guys writing that the Rams should try to get Bradford back and trade us Foles!!

They are saying…’hey we can win with Bradford now because the defense and running game is better’!!

Sam Bradford didn’t lose games for us with terrible play and his improvement was obvious as the year went on…its a bogus argument that his stats came in garbage time…Bullshit…

Do you know where your franchise tag is?

Crickets. No deal.

Sam will begin negotiating with other teams in 6.5 days. (I’m sure he’s already had “nudge nudge wink wink” negotiations already)

He hasn’t signed the Eagles “upped” offer (if there ever was one) and will test the market and there’s no reason why he would accept an Eagles Deal now before March 7th. What would be the point.

He must feel great too. The Eagles want him back so much, they reduced the offer they made to him last year by 30%.

“We love you Sam! You were great over your last 7 games! He’s our new offer….We know you will agree that paying you 14 mill, the lowest of any veteran QB not named Dalton or Fitzpatrick is fair don’t you think? We love you so much, we’re offering you an embarassingly low starter offer! You will be the 20th paid QB in the NFL! Only guys on rookie deals and backups will get less! See how much we think of you Sammy Baby! How could you not sogn. Forget testing the market in 6 days buddy…oh, and don’t forget….this fanbase LOVES you! They are extremely excited of the prospect of you leading the Birds next year. They’re The enthusiasm is ozzing from their pores. Wait till you hear the ovation you get next year! And don’t worry, they will be very very forgiving when toss an early pick and spend the rest of the game throwing 2 yrd curls on 3rd and 8.”

He’s testing the market now.

Only way he comes back now is if every other team rejects the guy.

Who stated that it would be 3-4 weeks, that does not even make sense, although given Bradford’s injury history the rook might be pressed into service earlier than expected. A place holding QB is just that, there to hold the place for 10 weeks, or even for the year until the rook is ready. It’s not as if Bradford is getting the Eagles to the playoffs next year, he could not do it this past season, could not do it when the opportunity presented itself in St. Louis. I do not get the need or desire to have mediocre Bradford there if this is not going to happen, and his history indicates it will not. I’m not afraid to take a step backwards to take two steps forward…I have patience. It’s not as if next season will be the last year football is played and the last time the Eagles will have a chance at a Super Bowl. The ‘place-holder’ QB for who…at 13 the only reasonable shot we got is with a guy who has never played from center…a guy who everyone including Mayock says will need a “couple of years” of seasoning.

By that time the “place-holder’ QB will have Pederson in the unemployment line looking for a job.

The Bradford-Bashers wants the team to commit suicide grab a bum like Foles, Sanchez, or Daniels as a ‘place-holder’…reach for a Lynch with the 13th pick and hope that it works out.

Suicide!

Kool..I understand where you are coming from….but seriously I just do not trust Sam nor do I see him as someone that can lead the Eagles to the promised land..if I do not believe in him there is no reason for me to support or want him. That is my position. Honestly I have fun with the jabbing Sam…it is all fun not personal. I am sure Sam is a nice guy but that is not going to win me a Super Bowl.

Kool..do not fret over that or worry about it..I intend to hate on Sam and take pride in it. The Eagles want Sam back at the right price and length of contract. As the qb if they really think they can win with Sam they would pay him the big bucks and lock him up long time and talk about him like they do Fletcher Cox. Didn’t you say we would be able to judge Sam’s worth by the money he would get and all of the teams that would be banging down his door to sign him…that was your criteria to measure his worth right?..well it does seem to great now does it…he is just a guy. #1 Hater!!!

This deal (should) satisfy both sides of the debate. Two years is plenty of time to see if he continues to improve and the fact that there is only 26 mil guaranteed means they can still draft a guy.

Only Vinnie will be pissed because he is a woman.

The hate sam crew is slowly coming round. I dont think anyone here is suggesting that Sam is amazing. I also dont think anyone here wants to lock him up for 5+ years. It seems to me that everyone thats is FOR bringing him back wants to see a 2 year deal worth about 25 million and would most likely have a 3rd and/or 4th year as part that would be backloaded. Your hate really blinds you guys. Best option does not mean we think he is a superstar.

I’m not wasting a 3rd or 4th round pick on a Matt Barkley or Nick Foles. Fuck that.this team has to many needs. Not only are the top rated QBs this year not very good what do you think the 3rd and 4th round QBs are?

ouch

Eagles re-signed QB Sam Bradford to a two-year, $36 million contract.
Another $4 million is available through incentives. The deal includes a whopping $26 million guaranteed, but we wouldn’t be surprised if that number is overshooting the true guarantees a little bit. Bradford’s signing coupled with Kirk Cousins being franchise tagged leaves Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brock Osweiler as this year’s only semi-viable free agent quarterbacks. Bradford was largely the same player he’s always been in his first year as an Eagle, lacking for consistency and missing time with injury. He posted a 7.0 YPA to go along with a 19:14 TD:INT ratio across 14 starts. Going on 29, we’re not expecting the “next step” from the Oklahoma product in 2016. His deal is a reflection of thin the quarterback pool is, not his talent.

Now I definetly move out of #13. I first try to trade this years 13 for a teams #1 next year and there 2nd round pick this year. That team isn’t being fleeced they are getting 2 # 1s this year. You gurus figure out the value but don’t tell me you cant give up the 13 this year for a teams 1 next year and there 2nd this year. Bullshit it isn’t that much. If not I trade back for picks this year. Sign a FA guard and take best available with our extra picks this year. If I can get the extra #1 pick next year I use them to get our QB of future in 2017 if Bradford flops.

One thing stays the same. We get atleast 1 more year of every game, every quarter, every pass how Bradford sucks. lmao Hell gcobb would shut down if we ended up with a high draft pick and QB of the future in 2017 that everyone would agree upon.

Yup, the best option we had and it seems a good deal from Howie. Now… can you all move on from this or will you continue to cry for the next 5 months?

Moving forward…. this QB guru crew needs to find us a qb of the future in this draft. There is enough good minds that together they should be able to find something to build with. Bradford’s deal leaves them room to protect him in FA with a nice pickup on the OL. Plus… i believe our OL coaching should be able to get good stuff out of any unit. Clearly we need a burner on the outside. I was pissed they let both Djax and Jmak go without speed out there to open things up.

Draft wise…. BA player all day.. no Christian Ponder like reaches…. no “tweeners” like the old days. Just good solid players. Howie…. this is your team… this is your time to draft well.

CSN poll right now has 75% of 50,000 votes that they love the deal. Just like the coaches and management. Like I said before the 25% of Eagle fans that don’t like it just the the gcobbers aren’t the real voice of Eagle fans and are in the minority. lmaq You step in the stadium and your voices wouldn’t be heard and deemed irrelevant.

What guys, Canttakeitanymore? I’ve been a season ticket holder for over a decade. Section 138 since the Linc has been open. I hate Bradford and would rather see a rookie under center.

I am far from alone in my feelings for Bradford…. In fact, 90% of the fan base thought the Eagles were swapping first round picks with the Rams when we acquired Bradford. That’s an indication of what Philly fans thought of him as a Ram. He did nothing last year to change many peoples minds.

When the only positive thing you can say is that Sam is the best option over Chase Daniels or a rookie. That’s pretty bad….

Good luck watching this stiff for two seasons!

Bullshit CSN final poll came out 65000 votes and 75% agreed with signing Bradford. A actual poll not some made up bullshit about many fans didn’t change there minds. Most Eagle fans understood that you don’t stick some 3rd QB taken in a weak draft and stick him under center. The visions of Christian Ponder or Brandon Weeden definitely doesn’t work. Psssst here’s a stat for you Bradford in his pathetic season coming of his 2nd knee surgery behind a pathetic offensive system and line set the following Eagles record.

1st all-time in Eagles history

Completion % 65%

Yds game 266

QBR 86.4

Completions 346

4th in yards 3725(he missed 2 games)

He broke all these Eagles records after sucking his 1st 7 games after not playing 2 years. All that with no running game, no offseason no oline and a offense that the defense called out the plays and not allowed to audible. lmao. He set Eagles records lmao. Such a uneducated room

Who gives a shit about the stats Bradford accumulated in garbage time. The most important stat, yards/attempt, he was one of the worst in the league. And were do you get QBR 86.4 is the best in Eagles history?

“Who gives a shit about the stats Bradford accumulated….”

His teammates, Irish! This is something that you Bradford bashers consistently ignored. The Coaches wanted Bradford…His Teammates want to play for him…Look at what Jordan Matthews said:

“He has to be the guy, Point blank. Period. He has to be the guy. You gotta build. You’ve got to continue to grow with people. I think it goes without saying his maturation, what he’s been able to do these past couple of games and how he’s ended the season. You look at the numbers, OK, yeah, I knew he was going to get that regardless, you look at his leadership, how the guys are really starting to gravitate towards him, how they’re starting to trust him and then the reps he’s building with all of his receivers.

“You can look at Zach from the first part of the season to this part? It’s night and day. You can look at me from the first part of the season to this part? It’s night and day. So, like I said, he has to be the guy and I want him to be the guy.”

Of course stats don’t matter when it puts a player in a positive light. Funny how when negative stats are posted the idiots cream all over themselves and stats matter then. Next time a negative stat is posted on Bradford give me a post on how you don’t give a shit about them. Oh well your not happy. We will survive.

Dag, the stats that matter don’t put Bradford in a positive light.

Don’t you understand that completion percentage means nothing if all those passes are within 3-5 yards of the line of scrimmage? Don’t you understand that setting a record for passes completed, and falling well short of the record for total yardage and TD’s is not a good thing?

Like I said, Bradford is at the bottom of the league in yards/attempt, which is the most important stat.

And most importantly, he is a loser. Stats are suppose to equate to wins.

Hey, I’m stuck with Bradford… I’ll be rooting for him, but I’m not betting on him winning.

then I’m assuming you heard the stadium reaction when he came back in during the Washington game. that was when I realized he was coming back. he heard that same as me. that showed me that the vast majority of fans (not just the WIP callers and csome on here) think Sam is on way up and are willing to see if that continues …as long as it is at the right price. which is exactly what has materialized.
