 It’s been a very long time since I watched a Flyers game and thought they played within their system for an entire 60 minutes. It seems like for most of this season and even the season prior, the Flyers had a very difficult time putting together three solid periods of hockey.

 One thing is certain; the NHL has finally found a way to create a unique viewing experience for the casual hockey fan. For three years in a row, the NHL has transformed football and baseball stadiums into outdoor hockey rinks and they’ve finally found an identity.

 With a win over the Islanders yesterday, the Flyers have strung together three consecutive wins against the bottom feeders of the Eastern Conference. These wins will hopefully have the team playing with a little more confidence with a tough divisional match up on Wednesday against the 9th seeded Rangers.

 The Flyers have placed goaltender Ray Emery on injured reserve with an abdominal tear. He is expected to be out six weeks or so.

Last year was Jeff Carter’s coming out party in the NHL but like many Flyers, he seemed to fade away down the stretch. The difference with Carter is if he doesn’t light the lamp he is ineffective for the club.

 The Flyers’ 2007 1st round pick, 2nd overall, is still in the mix for a final roster spot with the big club. This is going to be an extremely difficult decision for Paul Holmgren and John Stevens.
