The Philadelphia Flyers announced this afternoon that back-up goaltender Michael Leighton has been placed on injured reserve (IR) with an “upper body injury.” Brian Boucher has been recalled to take his place in the interim.
The trade for Boucher just prior to the 2013 NHL season was rationalized as a safety measure in case of injury. [...]

It’s amazing how different the 2011-12 Flyers will look compared to this past season’s team, but you have to give general manager Paul Holmgren some credit for not being afraid to mix up what didn’t appear to be working. We’ve heard the moves that the Flyers made today, but what happened to last year’s players?
Brian [...]

Less than a week ago, CSNPhilly quoted Ed Snider as stating, “We’ll evaluate everything when the season’s over.”
Unfortunately, the season is over and it’s time for looking back while looking ahead.
There is no position that has earned greater controversy for the Philadelphia Flyers this season than that of the goaltender. The Flyers have now gone [...]

Sixty three seconds.
The Flyers broke a franchise record by allowing two goals in the first sixty seconds of tonight’s Game Three blowout. Aside from Sean O’Donnell showing Nathan Harton that you’re never too old to tussle with the young dogs, there was nothing positive from today’s game. The Flyers, tanking 5-1 against the Boston Bruins, [...]

Fifty-four shots on net sounds impressive, but the Flyers will still head to Game Three against the Boston Bruins down two games to none.
James Van “Ridiculous” put the Flyers up 2-0 early in the first period with an even strength goal and a powerplay goal. JVR would, in fact, finish the game with the most [...]

Any hope that the Flyers’ strong play from Game Seven of the Stanley Cup Quarterfinals would carry over against Boston was dashed less than two minutes into Game One, as David Krejci scored on the very first shot of the game for the Bruins. The7-3 loss was not only disappointing, but just plain embarrassing.
Offensively, the [...]

In the post-game press conference after Game Seven, Chuck Gormley of the Courier-Post began to ask Chris Pronger who he would prefer to face in the Stanley Cup Semifinals.
Smiling, Pronger cut him off and said, “How did I know that was coming out of you? I guess we’ll find out in a couple days, won’t [...]

Game Sevens can be a nervewracking affair- the season’s on the line and all it takes is a split-second decision to put your team down. For the Philadelphia Flyers, though, they’ve been through enough Game Sevens to know how to clinch a victory.
Tonight’s 5-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres was arguably the best game they [...]
