The full Eagles squad will take part in a workout this afternoon. As the Eagles offensive, defensive and special teams coordinators will continue installing their offensive, defensive and special team systems.
While continuing the installations of the systems, the Birds will be looking for progress from their newer players. One who will be of particular interest will be former Rams wide receiver Kevin Curtis, who will be running the routes and performing in the offense for the second series of practices.
I'll also be focusing on the young tight ends who will be getting a lot more work while starter L.J. Smith recovers from surgery to repair a sports hernia. Matt Schobel will be the starter but the focus will be on his backups. Fifth round draft pick Brent Celek and practice team player Lee Vickers will be trying to impress Andy Reid and his staff. I don't think Schobel or these young guys have the speed to replace the threat Smith brings to the offense, so it's important that Smith gets back to full strength.
Of course all the rooks will get the chance to see if they can compete with the veterans now that they've become more comfortable with their assignments. Kevin Kolb will get a chance to get a breather after taking all the snaps during much of the rookie OTA's.
Victor Abiamiri will be lining up behind Jevon "Twiggy" Kearse who I think is going to run into problems because of his lack of weight. I think Abiamiri will play quite a bit in his first year.
Stewart Bradley looks good backing up at SAM linebacker but I don't think he'll take the job from Gocong.
You could tell by the way Andy Reid mentioned Tony Hunt in the running back rotation when he was on the 610-WIP Morning Show, that Andy's comfortable with the kid's grasp of the offense. I heard a couple of guys in the sports media talking about Hunt as if he wasn't the brightest of youngsters, yet this kid has already picked up the offense.
I'll be interested to see how C.J. Gaddis does, after growing more comfortable with the coverages and defenses. He's got the ability to make an impact in his first year.
