I've got a buddy who hated that the Phils swept the Mets series because now he has to continue to pay attention to them. He wanted them to roll over and die now, so that he could do something else with his free time for most of the summer, but the Phils didn't cooperate.
Pat Burrell would be on his way to the Hall Of Fame if he could play every series of the year against the Mets. Even when he's hitting horribly against the rest of the league, he kills the Mets. It's not only that they swept the series, it's the fact of how they did it. The Phils bullpen outpitched New York's. Now that I think of it, this could be a case of "Fool's Gold". You and I know that the Phillies bullpen isn't going to continue at that pace.
I congratulate them on a great series against New York. If they had been swept which could have happened, a lot of local sports fans would have decided to take a break from sports for the summer and started focusing on Eagles training camp. But the Phils refused to let that happen and stepped up with the games on the line. Warning: Enjoy the ride because there's no promise they're going to wind up in the playoffs.
Unlike a lot of Philly sports media, I still wish we had Curt Schilling and his big mouth here in town. He's proven to be the best big game pitcher of the last decade. I don't care what he says he can play. He almost had a no-hitter last night for the Red Sox who are my pick to win the World Series.
LaBron and his boys got exposed last night by the Spurs. If they don't recover in game two and make the proper adjustments, all may be lost. I don't see them getting dominated in the first two games, then coming back and making a series of it.
I think we might getting close to the time to tear into Michael Vick. The Feds searched his property yesterday and if they find evidence it's going to be the beginning of the end for him, but I don't want to jump all over him before the evidence is found. You can't get rid of a wound if you cut somebody. That's why I was against ESPN putting on that footage of the dogfighting because that is so strong it will destroy his public image even if he is found guilty. It would be like showing a person being decapitated while talking about a possible famous suspect before any evidence has come in on them. I wasn't defending Vick as much as the process of destroying people before the fact. You can believe if he had done so part-time work with ESPN as an analyst they wouldn't have used that footage of dogs chewing on the necks of other dogs.
