I coined the phrase Negadelphia and people seem to get a laugh out of it, but I’ve always found that one of keys to enjoying your life and finding success is being positive. All you need to do to be negative is open your eyes because the world flows to the negative side. It takes effort to be positive but it’s worth it.
It’s so easy to dwell on what’s gone wrong, or what you or somebody else doesn’t do well. My Mom always would make us focus on what we had to be thankful for in our lives. I encourage you to make it a point to focus on the good. All you Dads, should look for what your kids do well. I think that’s the most important thing a Dad can do. It’s easy to harp on what kids don’t do well but the key to seeing them be successful, is finding out what they like to do and what they do well, then encouraging them in those areas. I made it a habit of pointing out everything my kids did wrong but I’ve had to change that and make it a point to identify and talk about what they do well. It opens the lines of communication and motivates them. It’s not too hard to ascertain what they’re good at. Give them toys and watch them play. My grand son, Azlan is a little guy, who loves sports like nobody’s business. He’s a very good athlete but he’s probably more gifted in the area of music. He sings in the Philadelphia Boys Choir and can play the piano, violin and electric guitar. I’ve made it a point to encourage him in that area. I love seeing people develop and he’s developing. He can pick up any instrument and within a couple of sessions, he can play it.
