Sports Illustrated decided to rank all the NFL owners and they had the nerve to rank Jeffrey Lurie below the Washington Redskins' Daniel Snyder . I know Snyder has a huge staduim down in the D.C. area and I know he has money that won't stop but he's a meddler who hasn't done a good job as an owner. I can't forget seeing him standing on the field before games looking and acting like a little Napoleon.
I know there a lot of fans here in Philly who won't give him the credit but Lurie has done everything you can ask an owner to do. He helped to build a beautiful stadium and who can deny that. Even though some criticize him for utilizing public money to do so, he contributed over $300 million dollars to the project.
Lurie also went out and hired the best people he could find to run the team. Now he has stepped out of the way and let Joe Banner and Andy Reid do their thing. To me that's the key. Snyder on the other hand has meddled with the Skins and created problems in doing so.
I think I would rate Lurie ahead of some of the other owners which S.I. rated ahead of him. They started off with Robert Kraft and his son Jonathan of the New England Patriots. I have no problem with them because they happen to have won three recent Super Bowls.
Next up is Jerry Jones and his son Stephen. Jones is a meddler and despite winning three championships back in the nineties has hurt his team since then because he thinks he knows the game better than he actually does. I will give him credit for being a great businessman. Also don't forget, he cut short the team's dynasty by getting into it with Jimmy Johnson and speeding up his exit.
Then there's Jerry Richardson of the Panthers and his son, Mark, who have done a good job in Carolina but I don't see anything that sets them above Jeffrey Lurie. They've had some good teams but they haven't been nearly as consistent as the Eagles.
Bryan, Joel and Ed Glazer are sons of Malcolm and they run the team now that their dad isn't capable of it. They haven't done anything in Tampa Bay that would cause me to put them above the Eagles owner. Finally there's Snyder who I've already told you how I feel about.
