If you thought you had seen the last of former Eagles outside linebacker Dhani Jones, you were wrong.
On Thursday, Jones signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. He'll be asked to back their outstanding strongside linebacker Scott Fujita. Jones will be joining former Eagles backer Marc Simoneau in New Orleans. The Saints linebacker unit wasn't highly regarded a year ago but they improved it by adding Cincinatti's Brian Simmons.
The promotion of Chris Gocong and the acquisition of Takeo Spikes made Dhani expendible to the Eagles. Andy was very clear in saying they needed better play from all their linebackers. Jones wasn't nearly as big and physical enough to battle the big tight ends in the National Football League. The fact that he didn't contribute many big plays during his time with the Eagles didn't help Jones' standing with the Birds.
In the article introducing him, Jones is singled-out for being a well-dressed fashion conscious type of guy. Jones was without a question one of the problems on the Eagles defense a year ago, but he wasn't the only one. We're going to see if some of the other weak spots on that defense show improvement this year.
