Sportsradio 950 in Philly reported today that Eagles tight end L.J. Smith will be ready at the start of training camp for full practices. Smith underwent surgery for a sports hernia about a month a half ago.
This is the last year of Smith's contract with the Birds and he'll be under the gun to have a big year. L.J. needs to be more consistent catching the ball. He has had a habit of dropping easy catches and laying the ball on the ground after he gets hit. I will give him credit for improving his blocking because he did an outstanding job paving the way for Brian Westbrook last season.
If Smith starts off the season strong, he'll get the chance to sign an extension. If he struggles, don't expect to him to be back next season.
