NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says he feels very badly that Michael Vick has put himself in this position. They are continuing their review of the case, and trying to get the facts clear as fast as possible.
They'll make a ruling as soon as they can be totally clear about what happened in this case. He said they hear the fans very clearly and that the charges in the indictment turn his stomach. Goodell went on to say that the NFL security team is working diligently on this case.
Goodell does worry about taking Michael off the field before he gets his due process but they have to protect the NFL. The Commissioner says they have outside counsel. He's not concerned about whether Michael Vick is a star player or the 53rd player on the team. Goodell says he's going to judge this case solely on the facts. He said they'll let the legal process continue and make their decisions accordingly.
The Commissioner said he's willing to meet with Vick and his representative if Vick would like to do so, or if it becomes necessary.
NFLPA Executive Director Gene Upshaw says there's nothing that upsets him more than what Michael Vick was charged with because he, Upshaw, is a dog lover.
