The Philadelphia Eagles today announced they have agreed to terms with QB Kevin Kolb on a four-year contract. Kolb becomes the eighth and final player from the Eagles 2007 draft class to reach an agreement with the club.
A second round draft choice out of Houston (36th overall) and the Eagles first pick overall, Kolb (6-3, 218) turned in one of the finest seasons by a quarterback in school history as a senior in 2006. Connecting on 292 of 432 passes for 3,809 yards, 30 touchdowns and just four interceptions, Kolb was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year. Additionally, he ranked fifth in the nation in passing efficiency (162.72 rating) and sixth in passing yards (3,809), and was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award, which is given annually to the best senior quarterback in the nation.
A two-time All-Conference USA selection, Kolb finished his career ranked third in NCAA Division I-A history in total yards (13,715) and fourth in passing yards (12,964). He also finished as the school's all-time leader in completions (964), and attempts (1,565), and ranked second in passing touchdowns (81). In addition, he posted 21 career rushing touchdowns, the most ever by a QB in school history.
After becoming the starting quarterback as a true freshman in 2003, Kolb was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year, and went on to start a school-record 50 games in his four-year career.
The Stephenville, Texas native attended Stephenville High School, where he played under Philip Montgomery, who was also his position coach at the University of Houston. Kolb threw for 3,357 yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior, earning first-team All-Big County honors.
